I agree on all the points. Some MegaScans should stay free to help with the onboarding, but having all of them free as they were now hurt the perception of other assets being sold. MegaScans should have two tiers: low-poly and up to 2k textures should be free; this way, you can still use them for prototyping and learning. 4-8k and high-poly should be paid, as they would be used for production projects.
At least technically, the free ones could still be used for production as long as they are in the background. You might even prefer the free ones for that use-case.
No need though. They can just use the same licence agreement Unreal engine has: It's free for you to download and use, but if you make a game or whatever that starts making bank, Epic gets a cut.
2:39 - The assets won't be moved over but you will be able to still access them by logging into your Quixel account on their site and accessing them there.
Thanks for the info! I agree that they should have a collection of free assets available. It's what got me interested in trying UE5 in the first place. I can understand why they want to "level the playing field" as you put it, so I can't be too upset by their decision to put a price to the assets in the future. It is a bit of a bummer, though.
I agree with you, and this is something the whole community needs to ask for so the barrier of entry isn't too undesirable. Everything used in sample content should be free, as it helps new people coming into the scene.
only he is wrong. you can start doing it now. Read the statement from unreal that this guy choose not to. It clearly says that anything you have currently in your library, TODAY, will stay there and be yours forever. In other words, TODAY if you get all the assets you will have them forever, even after the launch of Fab... like it is clearly stated in the announcement from Epic.
well dang, I've been trying to learn UE since 4.26 and this channel has been clutch so thank you for this clarification. That said, I know businesses have to make money and I'd love to get so good I can sell assets, but people are broke. I wish there was some middle ground. I didn't know UE was free, and if I had, I would have perused my dream much earlier indeed of getting a 2 year CS degree only to learn I was bad at programing. There has to be a better way.
Oh, I'll have to download everything while I can as soon as I can. Of course they are most certainly worth the price, but being on a very, VERY tight budget, getting them free is much better! I wonder how will it work with all the megascans packages that are available in the current marketplace. And other assets I've bought/gotten for free in the marketplace. I assume those that are in my vault, will still available once the transformation to Fab starts....
Not clickbait when the info in the title is true and informative - I'm a Unity user, have purchased Megascans assets before and didn't know that their entire current library is now free for me to use in Unity, and that I can acquire it for free until 2025 and keep those assets forever. Quixel is also refunding people who still have credits and didn't spend them.
I'm learning all the fundamentals of blueprints, and I'm starting to understand the process I'd need to go through to make my game. I still have a lot to learn but my class shooter will come along eventually!
Eh, I have the gut feeling that, considering how taking away something from people breeds animosity, this may just be a move to force a huge wave of sign-ups to FAB upon launch. Obviously I can't see the future, but I think there is a very realistic chance that once we get to 2025 Epic will suddenly have a change of heart and revise the policy, or at least amend it so that people continue to join for the benefit of free assets, just like they've done all along. It makes no sense to give everything away for free for several months, this is not a consumer marketplace, but mostly people who - whether as pros or hobbyists - are aware of this change and will sign up and take all the free stuff while it is available. Again, I could be totally wrong - but that's precisely the point. I'll sign up asap, and grab anything that looks even remotely useful to me - just in case. And so will probably everybody else - so by 2025, everyone will be on FAB, and Epic will be all "Mission Accomplished".
I think your reasoning why assets will no longer be free is correct. If Fab is supposed to be a commercial marketplace it makes totally sense. Basically it's a pivot from trying to promote Unreal Engine to operating Fab as an asset marketplace that can generate revenue for both Epic Games and artists. For artists this is great news. The fact that Epic announced this beforehand is commendable. This is the way.
@@DlenarVlant It's subjective really. I for example have access to every quality (1k, 2k, 4k and 8k). If you want, I can sell you another account of mine which has these assets added onto it already. Let me know
Yeah, I thought the same thing that they should keep some of the assets free. Also, it makes sense about how you mentioned they should charge for some mega scans to hopefully encourage people to buy other people’s products.
Great insight on why you think Epic Games is choosing to charge for Megascans after 2024. I agree with you. It seems like a wise decision to level the playing field by making FAB an attractive market for asset creators, without the steep competition from a massive free Megascans library.
Hey I’m new to this stuff and just to clarify , so sometime in October this FAB thing will release and from there I could download (keep) all of these Megascan resources , let’s say I managed to get quite a few of these resources , they are free for use forever for me ? So anything that I manage to purchase / download for free in that timeframe (October-2025) I could keep and use them without needing to pay ? Or will it suddenly start charging me 😂 (I would mainly want to try these on blender btw)
I am wondering if Epic will have Megascan bundles on the Free for the month marketplace. That way we can still get assets periodically without the price. Though if they are as low cost for Low Quality, as in this video that may not deter people from UE as much as might be expected
I agree, it seems like a well thought out move. Evening the playing field for contributors to have a Fighting Chance to earn some money on the assets that they create. I like that they're throwing us a bone for the next few months, to get the assets for free.
My only question is: seeing from the way they phrased their tweets, it seems new megascans will drop with the FAB launch, and only THESE will be free, not all megascans from the current Quixel library. What happens with the megascans that are currently available on Quixel for free? Am I missing something?
seems to happen a lot... start FREE make as much people commited as possible... even companis / trainers / tutorial ... that could previously link to the FREE item will now need to be payed for by the new users 2025
Thanks so much for the video! So where does this put some of your earlier content that covers obtaining assets from Quixel Bridge and Epic Market Place?
It seems a well thought out change, many developers and professionals are the main target for the refresh, creating content and assets i would believe takes time, resources and manpower, wonderful to see a Corp doing some solid restructuring and forward thinking. Can't wait for FAB. PS: Do you think there's a slight chance your being allowed to use a script to Glut-Pool all those assets, don't you think they have a cybersecurity/IT dept?, c'mon for christs sake.
@UnrealSensei so will currently downlaoded/installed Quixel bridge assets still work in unreal projects? or will the Fab rollout nuke those licences even for ongoing projects?
I am extremely curious to know what will happen to free assets for educational purposes. Will there still be some free packs for new users to learn with?
So i have been conversing chatgpt. Allot of back and forth about complex systems (for beginners at least) i was trying to find thorough IK animation tutorials. it suggests Unreal Sensei video called “full body ik in ue5”, but i am not finding it. Did you have a video like this at one time, or change the name? Until i knew the key words like “full body IK” the only IK videos i could find are for foot placement on slanted surfaces, and fixing off-hands to weapons. Gpt suggested you had a more thorough tutorial.
Many like me in the field of archviz, who have recently decided to make a shift from lumion or d5 render, will have to shift back to them from UE. As we all know the learning curve of UE is epic and now if assets become unreachable as before, then whats the point of staying with UE?
I wouldn't mind paying for assets if a large portion of the profits go to the independent/individual creator. Supporting an artist or a creator as an aspiring 3D artist is something I believe in.
Hey Sensei. Do you know how will Megascans packs (forests, trees, etc) from the store work? Will we still be able to get them? For example: Megascans Trees: European Hornbeam can only be acquired through "buying" (it is free, but needs to be added to your library) the asset via unreal store and then adding it to the library.
I think you make an incredible point. It's a problem on turbosquad when someone makes a highquality asset and doesn't price it at its value and undercuts it instead. It then sets a precedent that that is what the value should be when in reality it's not a sustainable pricing strategy
Not sure if i misunderstand something. I dont see anything free there at all. Just logged in and if i want to use anything there i have to subscribe. Only Unreal Engine based stuff is free.
Is it possible to summarise the used assets in the UnrealSensei Academy course (I know it is a lot of them) ? Then we need to download just those to follow you through the course if somebody has already started it, but can not end the learning curve until next year.
I hope we still be able to share some of the assets to begginers and new users as files with 3D formats, or... our projects! As the matter of fact, making megascan paid for will surely drive enthusiasts to create their own libraries and share it through the torrent or similar sources. Yeah, the pirating is illegal, but inevitable since person doesn't have these money for each asset...
So just to be safe: if I download quixel megascans now for free, I can use them for any (Non-Commercial) project e.g. in Houdini right? And if I have them in a library saved on my computer I am also allowed to use them in a later project for example next year?
So, what's going to happen with the Quixel Bridge? Does this only include the Megascans category of Quixel or does it also include other things such as textures and some objects?
@@UnrealSensei this is false information, did you not read the announcement?? everything you have ever used in megascans is yours forever and tied to your epic account and gets ported over to Fab when you sign in. Mhhh I mean I don't even use Unreal Engine (I just like watching these videos lmao) but these Megascans are really high quality and require a lot of work. People actually need to go out and scan real physical objects. That's a lot of work and that work isn't free so ngl, I think it's justified. Also $14,000 surely is a lot of money for one person, but...considering that that's apparently the price for ALL Megascan assets...if I imagine how you could probably build an entire AAA game with this, this really doesn't seem like THAT much relatively speaking. Plus if you're a small indie dev you'll never need all assets anyway. What they could do is they could offer a free trial version to get people into using UE for their projects.
This is not an “even field”. Assents cost a shit ton of money. People sell their games for less than an asset pack cost, so it is going to be a big hit for the grand majority of people that can barely pay for a developer team, let alone a solo developer. Check the terms of service, as far as I remember, all the assets you get from the UE store will remain free after the migration, unless there is something I missed or changes have been made.
I wish Epic would upgrade the library in the unreal launcher. It's hard enough to keep track of the assets I have now, let alone the ones I'm going to be downloading.
Hi there ! I have a question : If we " purchased " all quixel megascans library with our quixel account, do they stay available / dowloadable for free from bridge after the end of 2024 ?
What about textures in quixel mixer? What's the point of mixer then? Also nobody is saying what will happen to free downloadable 3d assets from sketchfab that maybe the owners won't transfer to fab cause they abandoned their account, left 3d or idk died?
What I thinkin about this situation - Unreal Engine 3 was paid and it's cost was very big. But after some time thay make 4th engine free but if you make good game and sell this game for good money, you must pay a % to UE devs, so I think, after some time UEngineers will do same thing with fab

That's what big corporations want. Indie games are killing their market and they are going to end indie game development

I guess we're gonna start massdownloading everything before it goes $$$, or hope that someone's gonna host a "pirate" cloud with everything
I have a feeling all this was planned ahead of time, they knew what they were doing since the beginning.
Thanks for the info! I agree that they should have a collection of free assets available. It's what got me interested in trying UE5 in the first place. I can understand why they want to "level the playing field" as you put it, so I can't be too upset by their decision to put a price to the assets in the future. It is a bit of a bummer, though.
it's just shitty beancounter greed. it's not surprising, but it's still small-brain thinking.
I love your take on why the made the assets paid, great job as always!
I agree with you, and this is something the whole community needs to ask for so the barrier of entry isn't too undesirable. Everything used in sample content should be free, as it helps new people coming into the scene.
thank god I found this information only 7 days later... thanks! (about to buy a 4T ssd)
THANK YOU I kept seeing so many people like you said panic downloading. Thank you for clarification!
only he is wrong. you can start doing it now.
Thanks Unreal Sensei!
well dang, I've been trying to learn UE since 4.26 and this channel has been clutch so thank you for this clarification.
Whether this is a good or bad development remains to be seen but that name definitely isn't going to be one of Fab's selling points.
not good
I am so glad I just reignited my passion for messing with Unreal. Need to grab these ASAP!
I think it's a Genius move, it will help us all to develop and expand Epic Games (Unreal Engine) products related. 🙏
This is probably the close thing to an angry rant we'll ever see from Unreal Sensei. The guy has all the chill.
Damn, 2nd clickbait video title I've seen today... Was hoping they reverted their decision.
Epic : Lets take our devs for all they got, if Unity can do it so can we!
Unity: welcome back my precious
Harvest time
About time to start using those Asset Store packages we left behind :D
I'm learning all the fundamentals of blueprints, and I'm starting to understand the process I'd need to go through to make my game. I still have a lot to learn but my class shooter will come along eventually!
I'm not paying 0.99 cents per asset. The only reason I have time to play around with Unreal Engine is because I don't have a job.
I think you are right
I think your reasoning why assets will no longer be free is correct.
This is only great news for artists that sell assets. It’s a huge loss for the entire industry as a whole.
@@tarettime9392No it isn't, if you can't afford to spend a few bucks on assets, you have bigger problems than you realize.

Really nice video, well done !
Great news! Ditching Unreal for Houdini. Thanks for making this choice easier for me!
I knew this day would come!! I'm so happy to have the entire library already downloaded on a remote database 😊
I want to do the same, how many gbs or tbs of storage is required?
@@DlenarVlant It's subjective really. I for example have access to every quality (1k, 2k, 4k and 8k). If you want, I can sell you another account of mine which has these assets added onto it already. Let me know
Yeah, I thought the same thing that they should keep some of the assets free. Also, it makes sense about how you mentioned they should charge for some mega scans to hopefully encourage people to buy other people’s products.
Thank you so much for your videos, they gave me the courage to start learning
Why limit it for time if it'll be all across the torrents anyways?
Thanks for the heads-up 👍 🍻
Great insight on why you think Epic Games is choosing to charge for Megascans after 2024.
Or will it suddenly start charging me 😂
(I would mainly want to try these on blender btw)
Sir plz never stop making videos
Who's here wanted him to cover all-new UE 5.5 features, guys? 😏
Because I bet the video title is gonna be "Why UE 5.5 is an Ultimate Deal"
seems to happen a lot... start FREE make as much people commited as possible...
even companis / trainers / tutorial ... that could previously link to the FREE item
will now need to be payed for by the new users 2025
Thanks so much for the video! So where does this put some of your earlier content that covers obtaining assets from Quixel Bridge and Epic Market Place?
why do I need Unreal, when I must pay for megascans? Feels like Epic is shooting itself in the foot with this move
is CONCORDING itself in a FABulous way
Why does Epic need you?
@@MikeR.1986 Dumb question, seriously.
To make your game? (If you're making a game)
Hey Mr. @Unreal Sensei can u please make a tutorial on how to setup project for android from beginning.
I am extremely curious to know what will happen to free assets for educational purposes. Will there still be some free packs for new users to learn with?
You just clickbaiting from your caption?
As a 3d modeler making the playing field even looks good to me
So i have been conversing chatgpt.
Worst decision ever.
Vast sums of money making the worst decision ever. Just look at the Tech sector as a whole. A pipeline of disingenuous crap
it will kill a lot of creativity and new users...but they want that. why? censored...
Good for everyone who is using UE right now, bummer for everyone else. Hopefully we will get some start packs that we can use for content!
Will the purchases you made in Quixel website move to Fab?
All I ask from FAB is a way to sort by best selling or by rating. I love UE5 but the marketplace has terrible sorting.
Is it possible to summarise the used assets in the UnrealSensei Academy course (I know it is a lot of them) ? Then we need to download just those to follow you through the course if somebody has already started it, but can not end the learning curve until next year.
I started my journey with unreal engine yesterday and now I hear this... just flippin great. What is wrong with my luck
What would be the size of entire dump of all assets in megascans?
I hope we still be able to share some of the assets to begginers and new users as files with 3D formats, or... our projects!
As the matter of fact, making megascan paid for will surely drive enthusiasts to create their own libraries and share it through the torrent or similar sources. Yeah, the pirating is illegal, but inevitable since person doesn't have these money for each asset...
Can you make a video of what assets you recommend to get before it becomes paid
So just to be safe: if I download quixel megascans now for free, I can use them for any (Non-Commercial) project e.g. in Houdini right? And if I have them in a library saved on my computer I am also allowed to use them in a later project for example next year?
So, what's going to happen with the Quixel Bridge? Does this only include the Megascans category of Quixel or does it also include other things such as textures and some objects?
Do we need to download them or do we just need to have them in our Fab library?
When Fab releases you just add them to your library, no need to download
@@UnrealSensei perfect, it would eat up my NAS space otherwise
@@ng-lr4nl but only this year! Next year the stuff will cost money!
@@UnrealSensei this is false information, did you not read the announcement?? everything you have ever used in megascans is yours forever and tied to your epic account and gets ported over to Fab when you sign in. This means that is you put everything in your library no it will carry over just like everything else you used before mass DL. If you're gonna shill for Epic fine, but don't give out false info. There is a script out right now that allows people to add everything automatically and will stop working when everything is ported over to Fab. Why not tell people about that like the rest of the unreal channels? Are you trying to screw over your audience to get in good with Epic or something? WTF dude??
1:00 the title of this video is a lie and should reflect what you actually say in the video
It’s called clickbait
This is not an “even field”. Assents cost a shit ton of money. People sell their games for less than an asset pack cost, so it is going to be a big hit for the grand majority of people that can barely pay for a developer team, let alone a solo developer.
Check the terms of service, as far as I remember, all the assets you get from the UE store will remain free after the migration, unless there is something I missed or changes have been made.
what about if I've already downloaded a "high quality" megascan asset and I'll want to download the same asset, as nanite, in 2025?
I wish Epic would upgrade the library in the unreal launcher. It's hard enough to keep track of the assets I have now, let alone the ones I'm going to be downloading.
how practical will it be to "grab" them for free, all 14k assets?
people will create scripts hopefully
They already made a script for adding them via the Quixel website, so I guess they are making a script that would work with FAB as well.
there is already scripts available that takes 5 minutes to grab the whole librairy

I did not fully understand, when should we download the assets so we can still own them forever ?
When Fab comes out, will there be a way to bulk-get all the assets? or would one have to get all 14,000 assets one at a time?
Hi there ! I have a question :
If we " purchased " all quixel megascans library with our quixel account, do they stay available / dowloadable for free from bridge after the end of 2024 ?
What about textures in quixel mixer? What's the point of mixer then? Also nobody is saying what will happen to free downloadable 3d assets from sketchfab that maybe the owners won't transfer to fab cause they abandoned their account, left 3d or idk died?
What I thinkin about this situation - Unreal Engine 3 was paid and it's cost was very big. But after some time thay make 4th engine free but if you make good game and sell this game for good money, you must pay a % to UE devs, so I think, after some time UEngineers will do same thing with fab
