Awesome. Yes, this puzzle is rated close to 1600. I would say a large percentage of players have a puzzle rating that is 400 - 700 points higher than their playing strength, so I think players around the 1000 elo level should have a decent shot at getting this. Good luck with your chess!
Not sure if this is the other name you're thinking of , but It could also be called a "positional sacrifice" since the knight is being given up for free to greatly weaken the opponents king
Hi, I actually had another category in mind. You're absolutely right though, a clearance sacrifice can definitely be a positional sacrifice in certain positions. Since this clearance sacrifice immediately wins material, it's more of a tactical clearance sacrifice than a positional one. Thanks for watching and good luck with your chess my friend!
Why Qe5 is a draw? White have the Rook and the Queen under attack, and the only way to save Both is to sacrifice the Bishop, but then the position still will be winning for Black. What have I missed?
Hi, great question. Actually white has 2 moves after Qe5. White can counterattack with f4 to hit the black queen which either gets the queen off the dark diagonal attacking the a1 rook or leaves the rook hanging on e8 which would be mate. The other move that white can play is Qc4+. Both of these moves result in drawish type positions. +0.2 for white after f4 and -0.4 for black after Qc4+. Thanks for watching!
Hey Tyler. Yes, this is very close to the desperado tactic. In most variations of the desperado, the piece that is hanging is the one that sacrifices itself. The other category in this puzzle actually starts with a "Z". Thanks so much for watching!
Hey everyone! Welcome to puzzle #3 of this series. Please let me know in the comments if you were able to solve it. Good luck!
Kind of obvious after a quick perusal.
Could be classified as deflection. Or could be zwischenzug.
Bingo, zwischenzug is the correct answer. good job!
Dont consider myself to be a 1k player but i found this one pretty quick. Currently sitting at around 700 elo rapid
Awesome, so this puzzle is rated around 1600 so that's excellent!
Aha! I got one! I picked the knight move.
Outstanding!
It took me 10 seconds. The knight is placed to obvious.

@@chesswithcoachmark Me playing at 1500 and having a puzzle rating of 2750:
Was that a foul in the The American Football clip? I assume so but only know about soccer.
Thanks, in anticipation.
Thanks Mark for the video.
Yes, that was a bit of a penalty ha! It was a new sport he was trying to invent called karate football. Don't think it will gain much traction though.

I am a 1000 rated, found it pretty easily. Good puzzle. Not sure about the other name of the tactic tho.
Nice, thx for watching.
Puzzle no.3 : Ng3+ if hxg3 or fxg3, Qf1

A diversion tactic? Forced tempo move?
Hey Brad, it actually starts with a "Z".
Desperado
