you guys just saved my life. i'm a painter an wanted to work for a company. but they do a lot with spray guns. i whas bluffing that i could spray. watched all of you vids for 3 days strayd. i aced the test day and got the job!! all because of this channel! thank you so much!
Hey guys, I'm not a painter but wanted to help our kids pedal prix team and paint their trike. I use a hvlp gun, wide open fluid, about the hand span fan and around 28 psi at the reg on my gun ( cheaper one) with a1.4 mm tip. I e bed up with some good shots, but some orange peel aswell. What settings for a Colourthane 2pack whine using a hvlp gun please.
I have watched several videos on how to set up your gun. This one is by far the best. I especially liked how you CLEARLY showed how to set the pressure at the gun.
V&G auto free lesson is great. Mario really explains what needs to be done from start to finish. With just one of this lesson i managed to paint my car bumper saving me about $350.00. I even got paint made by V&G Auto in a spray can. The result was great. Thanks Rakesh.
the correct method is to keep the spray gun straight toward the panel, this is so the metallics and pearls go down even. It also ensures you get even coverage over the whole panel. flicking your wrist is ok if the gun is off the panel your painting.
Ive watched this video a few times over the years, now currently doing test samples to paint a friends car and im back for a refresher. this has to be one of the best videos out there. Its good to hear someone who isnt just rabbiting on about turning the fluid and the air all the way out
Today i bought my first spraygun. I have dreaming so many years to teach myself to paint with spraygun. I have watched many of your videos and i have learnt so much. So i have to say THANK YOU. Can´t wait that day when i will test my spray gun. :) Your videos are useful for people like me So keep it going!
Excellent tutorial on basic set-up, surprising how difficult it is just to find basic info on setting up the guns. Most appreciated and great work guys.
Herbrata Moeljo Mario normally recommends 2.5 turns of the fluid dial. Other painters say turn it all the way out. It is personal preference and is suited to your spray technique. All paints should have a recommended spraying viscosity if you can get a viscosity cup (a measured cup with a calibrated hole that is used to time in seconds how long it takes for the mixed and thinned paint to empty) and have the correct mixture then it helps with the fluid levels. Hope this helps.
Hey, you can paint straight over the black panels after sanding with 800g wet but they really should be primed for the best result. Use a primer suitable for your topcoat. Bare plastic parts should always be primed with plastic primer. If they are already primed then your good to go.
I used my paint gun for the first time today and all I could hear was Mario saying "hand span fan" from when I watched this months ago. Genuinely made the painting successful.
thanks, this really helps me! I am using artist primer to prime artist panels - will try thinning it with water 50/50.. hope it works! I wasn't sure what all the knobs were for but so glad you explained it in detail cheers!
good job making the video mate, note when you screw the adjuster in don't go too tight, just make contact or the needle will get damaged, to check for damage look for a ridge on the needle where it meeys the seat.
Great video, any recommendations for inexpensive conventional sprayers to use? I learned more in 10 minutes from you than I learned in a lot of other DIY guidance! Cheers! HAND SPAN FAN!!!
Thanks a lot for this video gents! Can I use this acryllic paint on guitars too? I want to paint a wooden sanded down one. I know I should prime it first but I don´t know what paint to use as I am completely new and I want to avoid using spraycans.
good on ya guys. Mario knows his stuff probably been in the caper for many years. I reckon more vids with him to keep getting the good oil. pity VG isnt in melborne otherwise id give him my business. are gravity fed guns best all round use? I need to spray the odd guard or bumper.
Hi there - assuming this is acrylic lacquer or enamel? Do you have any gun/pressure suggestions for shooting acrylic lacquer metallic with the required (or at least, recommended) top coat of clear lacquer? I am kind of excited about trying to shoot dark silver acrylic lacquer on my resto. project with a clear over it - I am from the 'States but living in Victoria, Australia. We can't even buy lacquer back home - where I live anyway. Thanks! Using lacquer b/c of a less than ideal facility.
Hi Fantastic video, i just have a few questions. i have painted a couple of cars in Acrylic before , i have a holden HZ Wagon i want to paint dark green went to the paint shop they said don't use Acrylic its hardly used anymore, go 2 pack my spray gun has a 1.8 fluid tip. but i can get a 1.3 fluid tip will the tip do the job the paint shop said 1.3 to 1.4 is spraying 2 pack is that right and is 2 pack harder to spray than acrylic or should i stay with acrylic. Thank you
Adjusting a spray gun depends on the gun type. HVLP guns use much less air pressure. My gun is a Jaguar, I back the fluid out 1 [and a little more] turns, and use about 8-10 psi. You get a lot less over spray every where, and use [waste] way less paint. I did an experiment once and the conventional [non HVLP] used almost twice the paint as the HVLP. It mostly into the air, rather on the part I was painting.
To achieve the air pressure correctly, we can adjust the air pressure control gauge and reading the number on it. To achieve the width spread correctly, we can adjust the spreader adjustment valve and measure how width it is (by inch or cm). To achieve the correct distance between gun and the surfave, we can measure it (by inch or cm). But how to achieve the correct fluid debit or velocity? What is the best indication / direction in adjusting the fluid control and how to know if the volume of the fluid's spray is right and properly? (whether is too much or too little?)
Why didn't I youtube first??? My paint job came out horrible because 1.) My spread was way too narrow, 2.) not enough paint was flowing out, 3.) I set the air pressure without pulling the trigger on the paint gun, and 4.) I didn't know which size nozzle to use. Thanks for posting this video this really helped me out!!!
Great video Dave and Mario very informative you are very generous with your time I have watched this video and some of your other videos a couple of times now, I will be spraying my HQ project soon in Glacier White, would you recommend spraying a clear coat over this or just sand with 1200 and polish? Also have you had any feedback from customers re All U Need Primer. Cheers and Thanks,Rob.
Hello, If you are using 1K Acrylic paints you dont really need a clear just sand and buff. The All U Need primer is great and we have had really good feedback. Makes sure you dont use wax and grease remover before or after using it. Just wipe clean and spray.
Really helpful video, just wondering, on somewhere like Ebay how much would all that stuff cost? and what kind of compressor would you need, are they expensive etc? If not Ebay, is there a good site that ships to the UK that sells these at a nice price?
I like your video. You guys seem chill. Do I need to prime a brand new factory black primed fender, hood and bumper? I think they are chinese aftermarket parts. If I need it, can I just use a rattle can from autozone (us auto parts store)? Thanks.
Typical Maltese haha thanks for the vid mario. I got my first spray gun and I'm 14 learning to use one. I am painting a slasher but eventually want to spray my nunno old international tractor
Great video.I was told to never flick your wrist at the end of each pass by an old painter.I saw Mario doing it.Does it really make a difference? What about with pearls/metallics?Thank You!
what about those plastic cylinder shaped filter that are in the neck of the gun where the paint canister sits, what is it purpose and do they come in different sizes. Thanks.
Hails, Look for this on Ebay ( HVLP AIR SPRAY PAINT GUN W/ AIR REGULATOR 1.4 and 1.7 MM TIPS NOZZLE ) and tell me if is a good to use with a Craftsman 3 Gal compressor of 125 PSI and 1 horse power. ..or if you see something better at lower price the better, I'm just starting some small proyects on my truck. Thanks for sharing some knowledge and read this.
Do you need a separate gun per color/ clear coat?? Or can you just switch out the tanks? Also is 2 ounces enough for a motorcycle gas tank and rear fender?
Dont pay attention to the negative comment people, they have no life, they sit behind a computer scared to do anything real with their life. Thx for the tips there was a few in there i like. Im looking at using acrylic paint soon instead of 2k its more suitable for what i do. Good begginers tutorial !
Awesome vid! I'm gonna be getting into spraying soon... Do you have a beginners tips vid perhaps? Also maybe some thing to look at when buying compressors and guns?
Hi can you please tell me what size fluid tip to spray acrylic clear coat and base coat my gun has a 2 mm nozzle but people say it’s to big any help appreciated
Hey mate love ya videos, very helpful! Question; I'll be spray my car in acrylic primer 2 in 1 within the next couple of weeks, on the back it says you can use as a a one step primer putty or a primer surfacer. Could you or someone please explain the differences please? Also which spray mask should i get? Would like something not to expensive though haha. Cheers, jesse
Great thanks guys! Once again, very helpfull tutorial. I am getting closer and closer to achieving my goals and this tutorial is helping in it aswell. Thanks!

OH YEAH DOCS WWOOOO
+Patrick Salmon OhKay? He'd be a little easier, ohkay, to understand if he'd just slow down a bit. Ohkay?
Yes 1.8 or 2mm for all 1k acrylics colour and clear and 2K primer. 1.5mm and below for 2K basecoats and clears.
Hello, yes you can paint wood with acrylic. For a full gloss it will need to be sanded and buffed. Thanks
awesome, finally a video that's helped me setup my gun properly.

Yes 50/ 50 is fine. depending on weather will depend if you thin it more or less. Use an Acrylic thinner or multi thinner.
Haa its ok, we always tease Mario about his OK's he loves any attention. Cheers.
Hadn't used my gun for over then years and this really helped. many thanks!
The best spray gun setup vid on the tube. Well done.
Okay, okay, okay....love the 'Okay' melody; interspersed with the occasional 'Correct!', correct!. Great job guys. Thank you!
I'm painting cabinet doors with an HVLP gun, but this video helped out quite abit for gun adjustment tips, thanks.
thanks, this really helps me! I am using artist primer to prime artist panels - will try thinning it with water 50/50.. hope it works! I wasn't sure what all the knobs were for but so glad you explained it in detail

Hand-span fan-- awesome tip!
Excellent tutorial video. Did you say you thin the latex paint 50/50 w/ a thinner or do you use it right out of the paint can? Thanks a lot.

"You wanna hand span fan"
Oh you have made my day. Great video thanks!
Thank you gus. It was very helpful. Especially the fact about the HVLP setup and info about it. Thank again.
no not like air tools, you dont want oil in your paint. Some spray gun grease can be applied around the base of the needle but thats it.
Gotta get this guy back in your videos Dave!
How to setup pressure from compressor if you don't have gauge on your sprayer
good on ya guys. Mario knows his stuff probably been in the caper for many years. I reckon more vids with him to keep getting the good oil. pity VG isnt in melborne otherwise id give him my business. are gravity fed guns best all round use? I need to spray the odd guard or bumper.

Do you need to run an oil and water separator?

Beautiful! This video was great and very educational! Keep teaching me!
Great video guys love the hand span reference for a novice sprayer it's very easy to remember.Appreciate the great advice.
Really handy video. Could you do one on how to blend the paint in when spraying?
Great Video. Thanks guys. Learned a lot. Do you have any video on how to paint fibreglass components?
Do you need a separate gun per color/ clear coat?? Or can you just switch out the tanks? Also is 2 ounces enough for a motorcycle gas tank and rear fender?

Would you use an oiler when using a spray gun from your compressor? Thanx
mario is passionate, i like that
Nice work, and great instructions. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
@66broadway thanks good luck mate.
I'm so confused. I keep reading online that you use 25-30 psi but they are using 35-40 psi in this video!
Thanks for all your advices and for sharing your knowledge. Greetings from Venezuela
Very helpful and plz make another vid about the compressor set-up for an hvlp gun
Excellent video - precise and directly to the point.
thanks but what about air/water separator? does any compressor work?
A beauty. I've been looking everywhere for just this. Thanks.
hand span fan, thanks dudes
Thanks for the video. Very helpful, and informative. Much appreciated.
Thanks for a baseline set up guys..worked well for me.
I liked it when the guy kept yelling after the compressor shut off.
With those settings the width of the pattern is only 10 cm long. How to make it wider?
what size compressor are you using? what is the minimum size i can get away with to save on money?
Hi can you please tell me what size fluid tip to spray acrylic clear coat and base coat my gun has a 2 mm nozzle but people say it’s to big any help appreciated
what needle/nozzle size need be if spray, base coat, top coat, and clear coat, ? i think maybe 1,3mm have good all paint. or 1,4mm
what set up do i use to spray house paint? Im guessing it has to be thin as water too? what's the diff in 1.4 compared to a 1.0 nozzle?
These tips work for spraying wooden doors or metal?
Hey mate love ya videos, very helpful!
Question; I'll be spray my car in acrylic primer 2 in 1 within the next couple of weeks, on the back it says you can use as a a one step primer putty or a primer surfacer. Could you or someone please explain the differences please?
