Thank you sir, this actually fixed my orange peel issue and now I can paint like a line robot
Excellent!
I always had issues painting white cars and I saw your flashlight on your gun and I never thought of that, that is a great idea . Thank you
👍awesome! Appreciate the support!
Theres this product called gun bud which is just an over priced headlamp.
Gracias Amigo for being a good Teacher, God bless you !
👊👍
We used to call the second coat of clear "the money coat". Lol That laid out nice! I bet it even buried and flowed out the little specs of lint in the first coat, usually does in white. This is the second instructional video of yours I've watched, I caught the body filler one earlier. Another good one man! 👍Thanks for setting a good example and using safety equipment! I've seen so many painting videos with the folks standing in a cloud of eurethane with no respirator. My advice, pay attention if you want to learn, he's the real deal.....and he just got a new subscriber 👍
I appreciate the comment and support. I've definitely heard of the money coat before.
Chris, it feels like I'm standing in front of you, and you are directly teaching me😂.
Great advice, as all the comments reflect that.
Thank you boss
Thank's brother! Appreciate the comment and support!
One of the best demonstrations I've seen regarding spraying. I've been working on this and already have some idea what I need to do and you confirmed and showed it.
Awesome, thank you!
I've learned so much by watching your videos. Thank you so much for being a great teacher.
It's awesome that there's so much interest in the channel! I appreciate the support and comment!
Another long time painter said there is too much emphasis on flat clear today and that a good painter knows how to spray the right peel for the job. I thought that was a good point if doing collision work. If all you do is glass, your collision work is gonna look wrong. I seem to be in the niche of painting old cars right now, so I am looking for flat so I can avoid excessive sanding and buffing. I still wetsand and buff every old car. You know those old car guys are picky even if you give 'em a great price...
Makes sense. If I had collision work done, I would rather it match the rest of the vehicle, even if it meant adding a bit of peel.
Glasurit 460 clear flows out so well.. if you want to glass out an old hot rod that’s the way to do it
I totally agree. I started painting here in the UK in the mid 80s. It was mainly a hobby and a bit of buying and selling which involved repair and touch up work. Complete re sprays were mainly for old vehicle restoration ie classics. I was lucky enough to have a friend who sold spraying equipment to workshops so had and still do the correct and up to date equipment. On a panel repair you can have the perfect colour match but if you don't lay the paint the same way as the rest of the vehicle then it will just look wrong. Back in the day Ford's in the UK were terrible for orange peel so you had to put a poor finish on the paint so it matched the rest. And that ain't as easy as it sounds. At least with a complete paint job you could relax a little as the finish would all be the same. Custom flat finishes are not as common as the US here. But do exist.
The Factory paint is done by robots and they are adjusted to save money . Less paint means less costs. In all my 30 years I have learned to paint cars , that you do NOT see a difference after the work. But I also know how to paint really nice flat and glossy,if it is the whole car to be painted.☝️😎do not jump on the flat paint train😇😂
@@chrisduc1 too late, already boarded the train on the old cars. Anything newer gets some peel tho.
You make it looks so easy. Great video.

You're awesome man, thanks for teaching us.
My pleasure! Really appreciate the comment and support!
Looks great, Chris!!

Great video, thanks for sharing your expertise to help us rookies out
Very nice! Whenever I paint anything I screw up something, if it can go wrong, with me it does! Considering how long I've been "painting" you'd think I get better! You make it look so easy. Nice videos!
I look at it like this. If things keep going wrong you get the experience of overcoming those obstacles and it makes you better in the end. Appreciate the kind words and support!
@@GarageNoise You're absolutely correct, I repainted a bonnet today that I screwed up yesterday which was covered in fisheyes. Prepped the work area and panel the way it worked for me in the past and it's now a lot better. Happy Easter Garage Noise!
Even if done wrong you learned how not to do it
Nice over lap pattern, very tight, very consistent.

Thank's brother appreciate your comment and support! My goal is to have t-shirts available by August. I'll will make an announcement for sure.
Nice job came out nice
Thank's brother! appreciate the support!
Good information and collectively the understanding of you and your settings. The paint thickness from factory to thin, learned that a bit ago. I used 5% in the clear to melt and blend into existing and didn’t need cut and buff.
Awesome, thank you!
Awesome 👌 thanks for the tip.
I'm getting better and better off of watching your videos and advice.

Been having a lot of orange peel and I’ve been spraying at 20psi. I’m gonna try this. Thank you
Yes bump up that psi or lower you fluid. But 20 psi is a bit too low for clear. Hope it helps. Appreciate your comment and support!
Great video!
👍
Never forget about the edges from the jamb side.
👍
Looks good, I like buffing every panel I paint results are better. I got into the habit of Buffing.
Nothing wrong with that! Appreciate the comment!

-How long after applying base do you apply the clear?
Thank you very much for sharing your painting knowledge.
10-15 minutes appreciate the comment and support!
Great tutorial for us NOOBS!! Thanks.
👍
Thanks sir for informative video. Have a nice day
Most welcome
I see your recommendations on clear and primer in the description, what base/hardener as well as sealer/hardener do you recommend?
Great video
Thank's Bud!
For metallics what grit should be final sanded with before paint great video
600 is what I use never had a problem even with silvers.
Go from 6 to 800 if you want to be safe. Any edge gouge from 600 grit paper will show later down the road with shrinkage. I finish in 800 to be safe I've got it cut down enough
Thanks!
👍👊you welcome buddy!
Bravo!!!
Thank's brother!
Getting the clear flat is fairly easy…….matching the peel is what a goose painter can do.
👍
It’s all about timing between coats
👍
I noticed your back pass( left to right) is noticeably faster than your front pass (right to left). Is that for edge build up or overlap control?
Which clear did you use and how much did you reduce it ?
I'll be ordering the same gun !
Gonna spray black. Any tips? Hope I can do something close to what you just did. Love the glass finish !
Finish 1 fc710, I didn't reduce it, mixed4:1 clear and activator
How long do you normally wait between spraying base coats ? And then between your clear coats
Too nice to good, can I ask if sometimes you also base on how does the orange peel on original panel and make it looks like the same
Yes, sometimes if the car has heavy peel I try to make it similar. Peel is a pet peeve of mine so I try to make it look the best I can without a drastic difference. Thing is, I've never had anyone complain about the paint looking too good!🤣
Great videos! What would the viscosity be and what's the highest viscosity that gun would be able to spray? Thanks.
I don't know but You can get this with 3 needle sets a 1.3, 1.5 and 1.7
Thanks so much. I have the same gun and learning. How long do you wait between the first and second coat of clear?
About 10 minutes in the summer.
Chris: obviously you have a lot of experience at painting. I appreciate that. In order to get it to flo do you use a little thinner at times? Speaking of clear coat that is.
I don't and never have. If the manufacturer of clear has it as an option to reduce than it's ok to do.
Is it best to paint panels in a position of how they mount on the vehicle? ie paint the door on a mount like yours instead of on a table laying down ……love the channel thx!
👍appreciate the support brother!
Chris...on budget guns..go with Ani f60...and yes pay attention to weather versus ur clear u using Based on Temps
👍
When you paint are u pressing the gun full throttle?
Wow alsume job
what does alsume mean? i googled it but ...got nothing
👍
Great advice!! Can you recommend a inexpensive gun I can use both to primer and paint? Thanks!
This one the areopro A610 comes with several needle sizes.

great work mate you very much like BRIAN ( paint society)🙂
Thank you! Cheers!
1st comment. Howdy Chris. Happy Sunday and God bless you.
Really appreciate all the support brother!
how much do you pull the trigger when you do base 1st coat vs 2nd ? also same question for primer and clear. Thank you love your videos !!
I start on clear half way to see how the clear is laying down and introduce it to the surface. Then full same with primer and base.
hey! great video! i was wondering how long you wait between coats?
10-15 minutes
hey cool vid, as always. For me the second coat clear is very difficult because i cant really see where i already sprayed it …first is much easier for me because you see the difference between the places where no clear is and where some is…dull or glossy…easy…you have an advice for me?
When your laying down the second coat of clear use light refection to evaluate how the clear is laying down. Consistency in your speed and distance and overlap.
Hi great video, could anyone help me on what the minimum compressor requirements is needed for this gun? Thanks
Depends what you want to do but for overall paint jobs you want the compressor to produce 6 or more cfm's ideally. Cfm production is what matters. Hope this helps appreciate the comment and support!
hi fantastic video i have one question my landrover body is extremely shiny but the bonnet has been sprayed at one stage and the clear coat is dull looking i tried buffing it but still has a matt finish how do i spray clear coat gloss over it
I don't know what type of paint your spraying over but if it's in ok condition you can typically sand with 600 and base then clear. If your asking if you can just prep and clear over it, there's too many variables for me to say that's possible.
I have the same gun same settings that u said & I still get texture. I’m using a 29 gallon compressor could it B that I need a water separator on the small compressor? I have one like yrs on my gun. Seems good painters know a magic trick that know one is sharing or something I feel like destroying everything I bought can’t seem 2 get it right
If your getting texture at 29 psi turn the fuluid down a 1/4 turn leave your pressure the same be mindful of your speed and distance.
Watching your video is like an extension of my arm and we have a similar style, almost identical, BUT you really load up the bottom of the door. Every stroke you made was like "that's it" but you put four times the paint on that bottom than l would have. Do you have a paint depth gauge?
No I don't have a depth gauge.
All in how the sealer and base is layed!
Absolutely, very important.
Can you give us a review on your compressor or what compressor do u have?
Absolutely!
What settings do you recommend with a European 2:1 clear coat? 20 degrees Celsius. (Around 65F I think)
Great video!! I would like to get a flash light like the one you have on your gun. Any recommendations where can I buy it? Thanks.
Sure always have links in my description but here it is brother!
amzn.to/44Xt5BX
Thanks I appreciate it!!
What was your pressure for base and clear? Great video!
Around 24 for base and 28-30 for clear.
Hello,
whats the part number for your PPS cup adapter for the aeropro? Thank you
Harbor freight spectrum #57505 easiest way to get it
When you say your setting up your gun at 30PSI at (2:30) is that the pressure on the gun when the trigger is released or pressed in?
Pulled
I want to paint my 1975 C3 Corvette, can i use the gun mentioned in this video ? Any tips would be very much appreciated.
Absolutely, you can use this gun to paint that corvette
Ever thought about having a teaching workshop? Say 6 students, 6 panels. From dented panel to finished product? Wouldn't need much space really, just enough airflow from the compressor(s) to keep up with 6 + lines
That would be cool and a blast but right now I have no time maybe in the future tho! Appreciate the comment and support!
I was looking at your amazon affiliate store the disposable cup system is for a 1.0 paint gun. What is the difference between the 1.0 and 2.0 systems?
Different gun adapters is the main thing and the 2.0 seams to be more expensive.
Do you have to use different gun for every stage?
No, I would for primer tho
Thanks for your knowledge you've shared with us sir....I ask a question..you spray this..on hot weather or night time...🥰
This one it was a little warm about 80°f . You can spray in any temp above 50°f
Thank you sir for that info.... hopefully I can use soon my r500 so that I can try what is results...I just follow your step about r500 on clear coat time ..🥰
Like how you simplify things can you do one on base paint.
I'm in a paint class and still learning all the difference type of base got me confused on how to spray the single stage wet and other paint sima wet please do a video.
Appreciate the support! Yes, I can do another video on basecoat I have quite a few on the channel. What would you like to know specifically?
Ok gotcha, don't do single stage much anymore but I can surely explain how to spray it
@@GarageNoise see how it's supposed to lay I know now not wet because I tried to spray it like base and it looked good at first but when it dried terrible. A lot of people in my class having same problem teachet told us we have to look up data sheet on every base before we spray it.
@@craigcarter5276 ok gotcha, I'll explain it in a video soon. Base should me applied med to wet . What might help you is after you have coverage don't change any of you gun setting just increase your distance from the panel on you last coat not much maybe 1-2 inches this is a drop coat it will even everything out.
Fine finau
👍
How about using Harbor freight paint guns? Are they pretty decent or do I need to get something better, Chris?
Some harbor freight guns are ok, I've used the $12 puple one it's good for the price. I wouldn't buy the black widow, although it a good gun it's over priced IMO. This gun I'm using is $60 and is as good as any at harbor freight.
Help! I’m clear coating a car today. Do I NEED to remove door handles or can I clear over them if the key hole is masked?
It's always best to remove everything but you can mask it up but more likely to have peeling issues.
When laying the last coat of clear looks like yr about 3 inches away is that correct
About 4-5
Hello! Thanks! Too many good videos. I have painted a Bumper. And when I set up my AeroPro A608, no Air came out. I have set my Air Compressor so that it holds at least 4 Bar up to the Gun. And then I have an Air manometer that gives the gun 2 Bar of air. And the gun's own air screw is fully open. That's how I had it set up yesterday. And then it went well. But now only clear coat came out, when I tried the Spray Pattern on a cardboard box. I wonder if you can figure out what is wrong. I have cleaned the gun after I finished the painting yesterday. And I have assembled the Gun, after cleaning it in the Right way. Thanks! From an Amateur called Tommy from Sweden
First thing I would do is hook gun up without any regulators to determine if it's the gun or your air supply/ regulator causing the issue.
Hi Chris, Another good video. Question. What is your air pressure at the compressor after the regulator and before the spray gun if one has 25 feet of hose? Longer hose more pressure drop but let's say 25'. Thanks
It's 90psi at my inline regulator .
@@GarageNoise Thanks Chris
How much clear use for door one door painting
I can say it's around 6oz
I had my distance right I think my problem was I wasn't using a sweep motion
👍
Do you spray your basecoat at 15psi?
I sprayed at about 24 on this one.
Use a quality gun, eliminate orange peel. Superior atomization will eliminate orange peel. Also using the right temp reducer and catalysts. It is all about the solvents escaping at the right time with the droplet size at its smallest. Then the droplets rejoin to form a coat.
Use a Sata or an Iwata, you will respect yourself in the morning. When you can lay a coat of glass that does not have any peel, then you have graduated to a real painter.
It's all about what your situation is. Most hobbiest don't want to spend 300-800 on a paint gun they also want less air consumption and less overspray. You can produce a beautiful looking finish with a budget gun. Atomization and the right speed activator is a key to a glassy finish. A quality built guns is great, but knowing how speed, distance, and air pressure work together to atomize the clear is how you become a great painter. Appreciate the comment and support!
👌🏽
سلام استاد شما عالی هستید.من از ایران کار شمارا تماشا میکنم.
Awesome! Very cool! Appreciate your comment brother!
What about tip size?
I use 1.3 for base and clear coat
How many ounces of clear did that panel need?
I can't remember honestly. My guess is around 4
Hello, have you ever tried U Pol clear? I was using a different brand before and now I tried U Pol and getting orange peel on a door I shot with it. Perhaps it's my gun settings. Don't know yet. Thank you
I've got probly 10 video's where I'm using upol clear. If you getting orange peel it probly not the clear. What gun are you using?
@@GarageNoise EuroPro Astro

Did one in last weeks video. th-cam.com/video/2WLxjrOMX0Q/w-d-xo.html
Appreciate the comment and support!
One mistake I made was letting the coats dry tack free between coats
Yeah that will cause some issues. Probly pinched back bad and dulled out. I try to help avoid all those issues. Thanks for watching!
@@GarageNoise once I followed your technique of 2-3 turns out on the fluid , getting pretty close to the panel and then just “zipping” it across in light thin fast coats , I started laying it beautifully .
Any single stage vids or coming soon?
I could do some there is some intrest in it. I just don't use single stage, but It would be easy enough to do.
@GarageNoise that'd be awesome. Not off of us paint cars. My 17 year old twin boys just started flipping riding mowers. I have a lot of bc cc products already. But wanting to try out ss. I haven't used ss in 10+ years. Kinda miss it.
30lbs of air with a lvlp gun. Whats a good starting point of pressure with hvlp? I just bought a Devilbiss Tekna Pro lite and i seem to be plagued with bad orange peel the last two jobs.
About the same. Adjust your fluid down a bit that will help atomize the clear a little better.
check what the manufacturer recommends with your gun and the datasheet on your clear. Too much pressure is just as bad as not enough. Also, make sure you are using the correct temp range catalyst from a sealed container and get your mixing ratios perfect. If you lay it too thin it won't flatten out as well, so learn how to get the proper medium wet coat. Go too heavy and you will have runs.
@@AnonyMous-jf4lc Okay so I've done some test panels in my spare time and it seems Shop line (PPG/Axalta) clear just lays out a little more orange peel than other clears that I've tested. If you use shop line and go extremely thin for two coats it will match factory orange peel look almost perfectly, but as your spraying it just feels wrong like your not putting enough material on compared to other clears. Fc720 lays out ALOT smoother regardless of gun settings, or hardener speed and also you can lay out thicker coats without to much of a negative effect. I talked to the regional paint rep for Axalta/PPG and he seemed adamant on pushing the fact that they can save shops money by selling products that cover more with less material basically.
@@jacobsimcox133 I stick to basically 2 lines anymore: Nason (Axalta) and House of Kolors. Even though HoK is pushing Base/Clear candies, I still find tri-coat to look the best, but it's the most demanding to make consistent. If you follow both manufacturers recommendations for how they want it laid, both products can be put on very smooth. I wet with 2500, and I don't have to do much, and it's smooth as glass. If I want peel in my clear I do like you said, lay it thin. I don't do it for hire anymore. Just close friends and personal custom work. Everything is fully sanded and buffed.
Is the base coat the same thing as a primer?
No, base coat is the color
Thank you so much!!!!!
How about eliminating orange peel with single stage paint?
Really, it's the same process, single stage sprays A lot like clear coat, it's a little bit thinner. Main thing with single stage is you want to put the first coat on light to medium. Do not put it on heavy. You'll run it
Just a silly question for you. Clear coat for headlights. I tried to do it today with 2k clear coat in the spray can. 2000 grit , removed all old coat down to the plastic, dry and dust free and clear coat always starts shrinking and forming snow flake patterns ruining my work. Any advice on that please. I really appreciate your comment.
Sound like you may have checking (micro cracks) in the plastic. If that's the case there's nothing you can do about it. If it's a clear coat reaction then it's reacting to something on the headlight. A dust coat of clear may help.
You only need to sand with 600-800. 2000 is too fine for what you’re doing. Spray a mist coat first and let it tack for 10 minutes, before spraying heavier coats, with flash times between.
Yes 2000 is a bit too fine. Although it should still work, I use 600 and you can clear right over that. Now somtimes there are cracks in the plastic that will still show.
I've done at least 50 of them, paid for by customers, so learned a lot. You did not get down through the clear to plastic. I'll start as low as 320- 400 wetsand to really get the weathered clear all the way off! you can see when it's done by the cream colored water going clear. (Ive gone as low as 240 for some real old ones.) Dont worry the scratches will clean up in the next stages! Then move up in ranges to 600 then 800 is typically enough, a scuff w/ a grey scotch brite is best to finish off.
Wet it down any halos you see will show in clear. That's old clear still left in spots. Any old clear next to bare plastic will show.
What you have is old clear still on the light causing the cracking look. I know for a fact. Thats exactly what your describing, It can look crackled just like that. It's the old clear! Its NOT cracks in the plastic most the time its cracks in the clear. You did not make it down to plastic! Guarenteed. I've done real nice cadillacs & Lincoln's that looked brand new crystal clear from yellow
Honestly this guy doesnt have as much experience on lights it seems. I have a shop with hundreds of cars coming through.
Yesterday I painted my pickup hood. I did the 2.5 turns out, adj the air, approx 5"to6", med speed but made sure it went on wet, tach hood. Still have o peal.
So my I must have used wrong temp which was med, my room temp was 75ish?
I used a devilbiss fl3 with a 1.4 tip
So now, i,m Sanding, 🤔
Fl3 might a little different on the setting. Use slow activator in 75° and up temps. You also have a 1.4 tip which is fine but make sure you're getting enough air to atomize the clear you want fine droplets.
@Garage Noise thanks, I used wrong activator and 25psi. I,ll use this I fo on my roof.
✔️👌
