FIRST Track Day In My 500whp Turbo E30! (MPACT 2024)

  • My first HPDE (High Performance Driver Education) track day! I did this with old rotors and pads that had 1/3 the life left since I wasn't able to get new rotors before hand. Because of this I didn't want to push too hard. This ended up being perfect though, since I was able to really refine my line and work on not letting my emotions get the best of me! I'm very excited for more track days!

    Havent watched the whole video yet but seeing the comments, good call on the endless brake fluid. Its what i run as well its the real deal, as for brakes a good pad is all you need, since your car is as high power as it is you really should go with a super aggressive pad like a hawk dtc60 or equivalent. With a good pad your brakes will most likely be okay with your oem calipers but you will notice theyll get hot and youll burn the dust seals on your calipers and youll just generally wear your rotors and pads faster. A big brake kit will mainly hold more heat and be more predictable. Itll stop about the same with your limiting factor being tire grip while braking. Hoping to see you hit more track days the e30 is a sweet build id love to see more

      True but this might only last for two laps or so before overheating. The car needs brake cooling. A simple duct instead of the fog lights with a hose on it does wonders :)

    its crazy how much faster your e30 is then the m340i in the corners and straight only thing lacking is brakes. i think a set or slotted rotors and fresh pads and you ll beat them there too. and it was amazing to see how much you improved in only 1 day. love the content soo much, making me wanna make a a financial mistake

      He's on race pads and normal rotors. I genuinely think he should just invest into some bigger calipers. E46 330I are a great bolt up upgrade.
      Edit: Got to the part he said that he was on his old pads. Yeah those would certainly help.

      @@sahzhree7757thats all he’d need! I run 330 calipers on my e36. with track pads, and decent track fluid I have A TON on brake on tap. never had fade.

    • @KevNotFit
      @KevNotFit 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@sahzhree7757 yea, rotors are usually the last of your problems if they're not holding up especially in cold weather. def needs a bbk if he's running that much power, or a new set of pads if he didn't have some already. Pretty sure he put some good brake fluid so I doubt its that.

    Hell yeah the first time being on track is an experience!
    I also track a turbo e30 here at VIR, though I have it 370 WHP since I'm stock block.
    I fit 245-40's on all 4 corners with 15" wheels just FYI. Using some Falken RT660's the grip is UNREAL. Best tire for longevity and grip, there are grippier tires, but for the amount of laps you get out of them, there the best tire. and first starting out, track time over more grip is the way you want to go.
    Love seeing another Turbo E30 out on track. too many NA e30's or there running SPECe30.
    Keep out there dude, love the videos!

    I always freak out when people start yelling at me at track, that tesla hit the breaks for what looks like no reason. I get that feeling of being so tired, because you have to work on the car before the event and wake up early to make the event.

    • @GeorgeElder-ky7nr
      @GeorgeElder-ky7nr 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I don't know about teslas in particular but because of the regenerative braking the car slows down quicker when off throttle, so companies make the brake lights go when ur off throttle if that makes sense. Seems pretty dangerous on track tho sending mixed signals and such

      He was pretty chill imo. Some brutal honesty at the end with 'you should get a low power car and learn how to drive' but he's 100% correct. Car has way too much power on 225s to let you get down the fundamentals of road racing without riding the edge of absolute disaster with how fast it is.

      Yeah, can't blame the instructor for not letting him get anywhere near opening it up on his first track day. My first track days were in an e30 318is, that car couldn't get out of it's own way if it wanted to in a straight line lol. But makes for an infinitely more forgiving car to learn in.

    • @jooooohn401
      @jooooohn401 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      He needs to turn it way down for track days. Can't blame the instructor when he doesnt know how well Joel can drive, he's in the rookie/first timer class, and is driving a 500whp, 2800lbs rocket ship with 225s, no cage, and brakes that didn't feel confidence inspiring lol. That track has so many areas to get way in over your head if youre driving hard in that car. Better off learning in something with stock power so you can push the car to it's limits without having to be doing mach 3 to get there. His e30 is badass, but 500whp on 225s on a road course is not the combo you want when you're learning/getting comfortable.

    • @obeewon1598
      @obeewon1598 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @jooooohn401 Agree, he def needs to turn it down. Hard to find instructors that know when to be quiet and observe then give good advice and critique vs. being overly controlling and critical. He said he came from driving a Miata, so I don't think he was a good match for Joel and this car. Dead giveaway when he advised him to set up his E46 drift car for grip.

    Maybe I'm trippin but I think you would have done just as good or even better If you just drove your car without the coaching. At least with minimal coaching for the first few laps to get comfortable in the new environment. We've seen you shred on the street and we know you love that car enough to not tear it to pieces on the track but it seems like you were thinking too much to enjoy it at first. Either way I'm proud of you and what you have done so far.

      @phantomflame0658 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ngige3617 If the cage is super tight fitting (3d scan + CAD design would be easiest for this) it will be very low profile and you can also upholster it in black leather, have removable door bars, maybe also removable cross bar on the main hoop. The point is not to have something NHRA spec but it's so you don't unalive yourself doing a pull. See Noble M12 and TVR's and how the cage is invisible inside of the A pillars.
