Question for you Adam Wright... who signed off on this guy for intermediate? No way does he belong in anything but beginner, and I am being kind, and definitely needs an instructor in the car with him. For all the Corvette haters, this is not typical behavior, at least not in my experience anyway.
@ericandrews1661yeah I believe this is a Chinese-involved social media targeting to encourage bad behavior by bringing it all to the front of the internet. Meanwhile, in China, TikTok is showing educational videos to its youth.
Reminds me of the people who hurry up and pass you to get in your lane, hit the brakes and then take the exit. When the rearview mirror shows a clear lane right behind me.
Had one one of those today. Passed me in a hurry and squeezed into the gap that was closing in front of me due to everyone braking for the upcoming corner, and there was absolutely no one behind me. I guess it's just too embarrassing for them to be last in line.
love how he rides his brakes leading into the corners from the long straight. and then takes it nice and easy sunny sunday driving style through the corners, and then hammers down on the straights.
@@myztklk3v Now that's just objectively false Corvettes can corner extremely well but only in the right hands which was defiantly not the guy in the white c8 that's for sure.
@@XxViciousxX agreed, you could tell the guy was not maximizing his car. All over the line, his breaking is pretty messy everywhere. One thing about mid engine car is that, once you trail break enough and point the car's nose at the right direction. The car would just hook and go. However you could see that the c8 corvettes body weight transfer was absolutely shit, car would dip forward and backward. Hence reducing the tires' grip.
But that C8 driver IS in fact a novice driver. He has no idea what a racing line is, and being a C8 he should be MUCH faster in the corners than this. He's just at a really low skill level. I think we could all drive just like him as 16 year olds with provisional licenses. I would present this video to the staff and have him demoted to novice for all future events.
I could be obviously wrong but while an instructor isn’t required, I highly recommend a novice driver to get one. It doesn’t eliminate this type of horrible driving automatically but it puts a set of eyes in the car and something could be done right there and then.
@@kickyadick This was a Track Night in America event. No instructors or passengers allowed unfortunately. These are generally way cheaper than HPDE's and the skill level varies wildly.
If I was presented this video I would honestly demote the OP. He is flooring it in any corner to get as close as possible to the C8's bumper Ignores all point by's even when bending the rule to go around would be the safer choice. and not confuse the C8 guy as to why the driver behind is ignoring hand signals. The BRZ guy is not here to improve his driver skill, this is just a video full of bullying. Track Rats tend to do this and over blow everything like a motorcycle vlogger.
@@googleleavemynamealone9145 are you talking about when the c8 gave him point bys in areas that you cant pass? did you watch the beginning of the video?
The skill doesn’t matter to be honest, trackday is for anyone to have fun. It’s the god damn rule and courtesy. He is fast on straight line but any trackday would first make fun example of a GTR: no matter what you drive, if that Miata is faster than you (in corners), slow down on the passing by zone to let them pass - even if you can dump them on that straight line. This is like, the most announced and simple rule a 3 year old can understand. It has nothing to do with skill. They have a really big problem understanding people. I guess they need special treatment in life for their mental disadvantage.
You need to push the staff to have him removed from the event. It's simply unsafe for all the other drivers and he is obviously not skilled enough to be in your run group. You may also want to express to the SCCA organizer that you and your friends will have to consider if TNIA is the right events for your to attend in the future.
He just needs instruction. Bump him down to novice, give him an instructor and teach him. He knew to give the brz a point. That shows some recognition of the circumstance. Just kicking people out because he doesn’t understand doesn’t help. He’ll just sign up for another organization’s event.
@@dadhats I was doing work/run at this event (dude in the blue shirt in the pits) and he was black flagged early on in the 3rd session and did not go back out.
I take my FRS to the track whenever I can and on open lapping days you get these guys in McLaren's and Lamborghinis who are untouchable on the straights but you're stuck behind them in the corners. And usually it's people that drive those cars who don't pay attention to point bys on straights and it's them who try and overtake on an apex and almost cause crashes.
god that is insane, dude is getting BULLIED by a brz in a c8, arguably one of the best handling corvettes 💀😂 i give more props to you than i do shame for him.
@@04dram04 the problem is literally that the Corvette driver ended up in an intermediate group -- NOT ONE FOR NOVICES -- where you're supposed to know what you're doing. He shouldn't have been able to get into that group in the first place, and should have been black flagged the second or third time he made any of the numerous mistakes shown in this video.
Dude thats so true! I did thunderhill a year ago and a c7 literally tried passing me mid turn on the inside but he was going too fast and his car just went straight for the dirt and i watched his car catch air 😂 never laughed harder in my life
The important part was the driver was able to walk away from this incident. I'm sure you took the time to educate the driver concerning high speed corners.
He would have been lugging the engine lol. Maybe even lock up the tires from jamming the car down a gear and jerking off the clutch in the middle of a turn.
Agree. You're likely to encounter someone like this at most HPDE events. The secret "not so secret" is to remain composed and take it up with the race steward or event organizers to resolve the issue. Getting frustrated and acting in retaliation only exacerbates the problem. If the proper authority doesn't move a car like that down a class or reprimand the driver, its on them, not the driver. Let your money speak, and move to a different organization.
You're a great driver man, that was fun to watch. I know the feeling well of being held up by people who are unsafe because they think they don't need to listen to the rules or attend the driver's/rider's meeting.
Yeah I feel like half the time Porsches and corvettes at track days are driven by older dudes who finally managed to buy their dream car, and are too worried about crashing their baby to push it in the corners (which is fine, I'd be cautious too.) But when someone with one of these cars shows up and has the know-how and willingness to push the car to its limits, they can be very fast.
I would caution to not stray too far from the context of the event under discussion. It’s a HPDE and the metric is not lap times or how much risk a person takes. Faster lap times are primarily an output of proper technique and experience, and less so risk taken. For HPDE’s, the metrics are closer to amount of event protocol and technique information absorbed, demonstrating execution consistency, predictability, and hopefully exhibiting progression in those metrics by end of event.
Yesss thisss!! I’m the youngest in the crowd of Vette owners and I’m just so surprised by how much the older dudes try to bully their way into turns when they can’t even properly link them!
Auto cross or get put in a lower group or even denied track time… I’m all for letting everyone drive on the track but if they are an active danger or nuisance to everyone else it’s simply not fair
I going to actually disagree here, autocross can teach you bad habits from a road course perspective. What this guy needs is a lead a follow session, plus a full track day in a bone stock Miata or BRZ/ 86. Slow RWD cars make you faster.
Look at the bright side. The times when you were trying to build a gap on the C8 you were driving amazingly with some serious concentration and motivation.
Wanna know why some talk about “old” people driving vettes? Because just like any other car that’s infinitely better than a piece of crap feminine looking BRZ - people 40 and up are the morherf’ers that can afford it. Really not hard to understand. You don’t see jit kids driving 911’s unless it’s some athlete or some Saudi dip shi born into billions. So what do young people that have all of 872.00 dollars in their bank account do? They hate, project.
I’m not a racer. But I concluded that many Corvette owners have no clue to track a car properly. But on straight aways they accelerate because that’s all they know what to do?
I took my CR-Z that was bone stock at the time (save for suspension, larger wheels and tires) on Brainerd International Raceway on a day with Corvettes. Mine was by far the slowest car there. No one disobeyed any rules, but I ended up reeling in the one Charger Hellcat multiple times. He would fly down the straights but in the corners I began catching up after several laps! I gave him a bit of shit about it since I had 1/6th the power he had. 😂
Motorcycle track days have an equivalent to this. 1000 cc riders that are great down the straights and lean over about 20 degrees in the corners. This makes them extremely difficult to deal with for middle and lightweight bikes because they’ll pass you going 40 mph faster and then brake (what seems like) 150 m sooner and then be 25 mph slower on a medium/fast apex. Moving up to intermediate and then expert class is so much easier because those 1000 cc guys actually ride well.
I'm going to be trying motorcycle track days. I seen a lot of cocky rich people at car hpde events. Sold my track BRZ a couple years ago but have the itch to go back
Honestly waving where he wasnt supposed to be waving was super dangerous. On turns!! you need both hands on the wheel. You think this is frustrating, race in WRL! No body follows any rules. I quit because it was suicidal. I have a track 2018 brz and 2022 gr86. Straight line we’ll never win, but corners, we’ll eat those all day.
@@CaptainFordo21 a manual 650i. They've depreciated massively and are a good way to get a rwd v8 on the cheap with a not god awful interior. If you just want a light weight car to mod for track days on the cheap miata is always the answer. No, your 3200lb gr86 is not light. Yes a turbo craigslist miata will be cheaper and more fun.
@@braisedtoast9002 Did you miss the part where OP said he has a "track" brz and *also* a '22 gr86 implying the '22 gt86 is a daily/commuter car? I'd rather daily the gr86 than a miata any day, and the older brz's are now way more accessible in most countries as a track car than miatas are. Here in Australia you can't get a miata from any generation for less than $20k, even a rolling mx5 shell is $15k+. Whereas you can find boosted/already track spec 2018 BRZ's for a similar price.
This happens quite a bit with people who think the car and straight line speed is everything. Had a “1300hp” vehicle not give a point by for several laps consecutively and when they finally did, it was on a no pass zone. They will also not let off after they give the point by for a clean, safe pass…as directed in novice class protocol. Fekking idiots need to listen in the drivers meetings and I’d like to see quicker enforcement by corner stations in the novice class.
Can the straight line speed guys stay on the drag strip, please? Don’t understand why they want to annoy everyone else on a road-track day if they don’t care about turning….
Sorry to hear about your experience! I can see understand your frustration. Not all of us corvette track guys are like that. I drive a manual C7Zz Keep up the awesome content! Would love to track anytime and meet new friends and enthusiasts
I agree. Lots of very good and fast Corvette drivers out there. And vettes are extremely fast in corners with right setups. Faster than BRZ for sure...
I’ve posted a lot of examples like this too. It is sooo annoying. Another one is when you get a point to pass and they don’t let off the gas so you can get by. The often get mad because they don’t think you are trying. Well just because my car has less HP doesn’t mean I am not lapping the track faster. You know fast Miata drivers must live this nightmare often. Anyway after a lap I usually go into hot pit, report them, then when I am back on track I’m far enough away from them. But - sometimes I catch back up and have to do it all again. Anyway I like posting ooops that I witness or participate in. It is entertaining (when no damage) and often can be viewed by others as learning examples of what not to do. Keep safe out there!
Lmao typical corvette HPDE driver. Fast on the straights but slow in the curves. But all jokes aside you guys should have tried to get him removed from future events. Passing with no point by, not letting off the throttle when pointing and giving point bys in the corners in incredibly dangerous to you and everyone else on track. It's amazing how he even made it to the intermediate group considering everything he did wrong is taught in the instructed classes and drivers meetings. I had a semi-similar situation with a BMW 5 series who wouldn't let up when pointing by and giving super late point-bys before the corner. Almost ended up slamming into the side of them.
@@Deemo13_ Yea that makes a lot of sense. Most of the HPDE's I do have an instructed group for beginners you have to take and then you advance into the Intermediate group.
lmao we had the same problem at our track night, but instead of an old man in a corvette it was a young woman in an M5. She would hold up traffic all the way through the course letting 10 cars pile behind her and then BLAST IT on the long straight to 160mph leaving all of us behind . . . right up until turn 1 lol. She did it in two sessions and got called out each time. I dont think she went out for a third stint. Happy to see you enjoying that BRZ in its natural element. I miss mine. Im in a 20 WRX now and havent gone to a track event yet since my local track was sold this year for warehouse space.
A perfect opportunity for someone to visit novice and really learn with an instructor. I ran inter a couple times so I could drive with a few buddies who were newer to track driving a have them follow me a couple laps here and there. Unfortunately you get people who think they can just jump into inter with no actual experience and it makes it dangerous for others all too often, and funny enough, one of those people were my own pals at one point almost causing me to have a near death experience at PBIR.
Taker easy there Mario Andretti,, these type of track days are a large part dudes who never really ever been on a track befor or drove there cars like that aggressively as you would on a track and that stuff is extremely expected too have a lot of dudes who aren’t really sure how everything works in general and have never ever drove there cars like that befor on top of everything else. Sometimes you gotta just do a pass through the pits and allow those guys too get half a track away from you and then continue on, it isn’t a race so not sure why it’s a big deal too do so and sure seems like there was a bunch of times he pulled too the side in a safe place and you didn’t go for it and then passed that other guy in one of those exact same spots anyways in the end. They ain’t all professional racers as yourself , seeing that black mustang wjth the massive spoiler pretty much sums it up for the guys who attend these events. No hate on those events, they are awesome but it’s expected too have some sketchy guys out there, but that’s track days for ya, bunch of dudes who bought a mustang or corvette during a mid life crisis just trying too have fun🤷
That's frustrating as hell and I can definitely relate My last HPDE trackday @ CMP, had a similar issue with a GT4 acting like that (also struggled to keep up with my 13' FRS that was CSG tuned @ 93). Fortunately the stewards/instructors had a talk with him and his stunt ended. Props to you and your buddy on having to deal with this bs
@@dadhats Makes me want to have a car with higher HP so it makes it as hard as possible to have the straight liners pass me in the straights. Could you run this same event if you turbo charged your FRS or would that prevent you from racing this event/class due to power/weight ratio being too high or something?
This is the track version of what people do to you if you drive a minivan on a road trip. Can't stand being behind you yet won't actually drive that fast so they pass and then slow down all the time.
@@dadhats Good to know! You know what, I think a cheap nitrous kit could suffice. Only use the nitrous when the old man tries to pass on the straight then just drive without it for the turns. That way it will last enough for the event, lol.
My opinion is that you might be in the wrong run group. It's time for you to ask for a checkride so that you can be promoted. Also, don't let other drivers get you angry. Take a cooldown lap, or roll through hot pit to get away from them, then resume hooning. The only way that a bad driver can ruin your track day is if you let them.
This is good advice. The Corvette may be in the wrong but if the op is that bent out of shape he needs to take a breather. You need a level head to be promoted as well. Pulling into the pit was a good choice, but chill a bit.
I’m about to do my first hpde in a month, I am simply floored at the lines taken by the big wing mustang and the c8. I honestly think all the c8 guy cares about is telling his buddies how fast he went on the straight.
I love seeing the point bys he tries to give 🤣. It's like one finger inching out of the window is enough. I'm sorry you had to try passing him while on line with him being off line, that would scare me especially if he's not handling the slower parts well. Great vid!
that turn onto the straight (timestamp 2:33) looks scary, heavy braking zone, pavement transition and a high speed turn with no runoff... I have to imagine that 2:36 was a pucker moment.
Feels like there's always at least one at any given track day. Even in the Advanced class, there's always someone who thought they should be there because they have a fast car, not because they actually know how to drive it quickly. But because I've shifted focus from getting the fastest laptimes to finding faster drivers to follow, I'm a lot less bothered by it than I used to be. If it's a problem, just give them space and pull through the pits then go back out to create some separation.
Pretty sure I was there that day, have a video my wife took with the white C8 holding everyone up in the corners and then gapping most down the straights. I made sure to start in the back because I kept having fuel cut issues in the right turns so I was trying to be out of the way in case it happened. My day ended with being towed off in the second session. I live local, so if you want to do more Subaru things hit me up, got quite the build going on right now.
I know you’re only allowed to pass on straights in HPDE 2 but if he points you by through a corner I use to pass anyway and say I thought something was wrong with his car cause he was going so slow. Usually good enough excuse that gets a chuckle out of race director
You handled that very well. I can agree it's incredibly infuriating when your considerably faster than other drivers but straights there quicker and stewards don't do anything about them sometimes. Happens a lot at my track cause if they have money it's a whatever thing for the organizers/stewards. Meanwhile I can bully brand new M cars and Corvettes in my Focus SVT and they give me shit cause I'm "putting too much pressure on other drivers" then let me pass.
Gotta love those guys with the super powerful whips that floor it on the straights and park in the corners. I encounter this a lot at motorcycle track days.
Honestly I’m a newb C6 Z06 owner and super young so I just let most kids pass me since I’m still learning and this guy gives us a bad name. I don’t even push my Vette to redline cause fear of valve drop lol! 😭
It was funny watching how easily he oast you on the straights. I know hes not supposed to but man, got to admit that c8's a beast to be the first iteration of that car!
For a one trick pony it’s a beast. Clearly the dude who owns that car doesn’t know where he stands. His vette is fast but he’s slow as shit. Buddy over here in the BRZ is fast but his car is “slow” which explains where in all the areas that actually require REAL experience behind the wheel, the vette stayed glaring hard at BRZ tail lights.
Could someone explain to me the benefits of point-bys? In Germany on the Nürburgring the slower car uses the turn indicators to signal the faster car than it will stay right and the faster car will signal that it will overtake on the left. Letting go of the steering wheel and having to have the driver's hand in sight, doesn't seem to be very practical to me?
I did some SCCA racing many years ago and also worked the track on many events. Decades ago I observed that for whatever reason, the Corvette drivers consistently disregarded the rules. The newer the car, the worse it was. I see things haven't changed
Ask to move into a higher group or put in the days to be allowed. In a point by group with no open passing, this is where these guys will live out the rest of their days. Best to move up and move on, there's at least a few of these chaps on every track weekend. The horsepower vs corner cars are a growing matter to content with in recent years though as 400-500hp has become common and driving skills have.. well... not caught up.
@@TorqueTestChannel I'm running with Track Night in America so doesn't quite work that way, the groups are self assigned with no in car instructors. basically just need to register for advanced from now on and see how it goes 🤷♂
I really like your content, keep posting! Also if you ever have the desire to, it'd be awesome to see a build video detailing your 86. Keep up the good content.
Most people that buy corvettes have the money but no skills so to blame the car is moronic. But then again you had a whole 225 hp at your pedal but I'm more impressed your car made it more then two laps without blowing up
Grew up in the mountains. Prairie drivers and city drivers do exactly this - floor it on straights and crawl around corners and hills not letting you pass - sad.
That driving from the Corvette is extremely dangerous. Another thing I noticed, it seems like you had a few people that might have had powerful cars and didn't know how to drive. Looks like the Mustang also wasn't aware of how to take the racing line. Great driving by you. And talking to the staff/workers letting them know he needs to come off is exactly what needed to be done. Either he should have been moved to beginner with instructor or he needed to be removed from the event. Especially if he was already talked to by someone previous to this.
thanks! yea something about this track has people driving all over the place. I think there's just a lack of knowledge of this layout in general bc at njmp people drive way better!
Ah yes, SCCA Track Fright In America where rungroup is determined by how much horsepower you have. ;-) Reminds me of the one time I went. 225WHP M3 (m3) vs 700+ Hennesy tuned GT-R. Left me in the straights, every corner I was up his tailpipe. He claimed he was slow in the corners because of the "engine tune", and not his crappy line.
To be fair, every 700hp+ car I have driven usually has awful partial throttle behavior. But with time & practice, not to mention somewhat adhering to the racing line, that is mostly able to be overcome.
Tbh stock non power mods on a GTR can be pretty difficult for a new driver because the car is harder to rotate and will understeer a lot. If your at a track that has many turns with a novice driver, I am not surprised. Most r35 owners I know who track their car are typically keeping their power mods stock or fbo. You won't see many built GTR on the track. 700+hp requires new turbos and prob built engine is ideal if your running it on the track. There's a lot of issues with cooling that needs mods for and the stock suspension isn't as great which is where most people dump their money into if their into track from my experience. Not only that if they are a novice driver, most of the community recommends GTR owners to run lower boost on track days to not overheat the car, allowing longer runs as well. Not that much power is needed for noob driver. Without a dct cooler you pretty much can do like 3-4 laps before needing to cool down Also I am very surprised someone will bring their GTR to Hennessey in 2023. They are reputable for lying and I'm sure they are saying 700 to the crank not the wheel. Likely a FBO gtr
I will always remember a "too good for you" prick driving a 2012 out-of-the-box getting lapped by a Canadian husband-wife in built 1970s porches. The first scoffed at me, the couple offered me a beer before I made it to their RV.
I have a v8 I go fast. If he has the same amount of skill as his car's power, he could have just pulled away. You could tell how incompetent he was in that c8, the body weight transfer was everywhere on the track. He was def not at the car's limit.
It really just seemed like he stopped driving fast and started commuting lol. I can see a more experienced driver in a lighter car catch up quickly but the 86 driver basically teleported behind the C8.
Its crazy how many rules they have on car track days, on bike track days it's pretty much a free for all. Overtake on either side, overtake on bends. Just no wheelies and try not to crash.
bro was out for a leisurely cruise in the corners and floors it on the straights lol....btw your BRZ is a monster in the corners, insane speed! great driving
Nice driving. The only time I have driven on a track was in my stock GT86. The car only took 1 lap to tell me it had my back, was on my side and wanted me to push it to it's limits. Even with stock "Primacy HPs" the control you had over your scrub angle in the corners, how readily it communicats understeer and how patient it is as long as you patient with it. I did a good job of keeping up with (ironically!) a historic AE86 Corolla that was a full track day build on slicks. Unfortunately both the impreza and the other GT86 went by, but both of them were on Eagle F1 tyres... and the scubby has another 80BHP!
On assholes both BMW M3s behind me kept taking huge amounts of kerb in the chicane filling my mirrors to intimidate me in places where they cannot pass. If they had any sense the would have run in wide on the outside to hook a straight line out of the chicane to "sling shot me". I just let the pass on the straight. Track "rules" were conscent passing only. The car in front has to "yeild" for the person behind to pass. The only exception would be if you can simply outdrag them down the straight.
I had a C8 to the exact same thing to me at Pocono, complete with the point-bys. Organizers suggested I just pit to get him off my pace so I could enjoy the rest of the session.
God that is so frustrating. Never driven a car on a track but with bikes I get gapped by 1000cc on the straights and held up on the corners. So damn frustrating.
I wonder if the whole problem would be solved if they opened up passing from in-between 1 and 2 and 9 and 10. I didn't see the BRZ driver waving the Vette by in the straights either. I get why he didn't: He wanted to get as far out in front so he wouldn't be slowed in the turns. But if they opened up the passing zones, the BRZ and the Vette wouldn't have to slow each other down.
I get your point here. Been there with inexperienced or rude cars on the track. Rather than race than back and forth, I let up and let them get ahead, half a lap or so. Why not pull in sooner to notify the official? I’m not defending the C8, clear not following track rules.
It's for this reason, I'd never take my Veloster N in a track. You end up surrounded by two types of people: those who haven't got a clue, and those who think they are track gods, and novices are not welcome here. Fuck that. I'll stick to back roads and hoping the cops are kind.
As Someone that hasn't been to track days it Seems odd to me that the only place to pass is on the straights where a higher horsepower car has the advantage.
I came up on a C8 on some back country roads. My GR Corolla was on his tail at every corner and even at some straight and short sections. It was funny when he ran until me at a gas station and asked me what I did with my Corolla.
I feel this pain. I just had my first dose of this at Daytona in Jan. Older guy in McLaren. Intermediate. Gapped me on the straights, and then held me up in the turns. Offline, early braking. Stuck behind him almost entire session. Had words with him after. His excuse was he didn’t realize I wanted to pass. Wtf!, How was he expecting me to communicate “I would like to pass” lol. Then 2 kids in Dad’s Aventadors. Same deal.
Having completed my first HPDE last week in a C5 Z06, and being an old man too, that C8 driver was not instructed properly, or ignored instructions, a C8 driving this way puts everyone at risk in the track. I had 4 instructors ride with me during the four 20 minute sessions and it was great…I let everyone close to me by (I let off the accelerator and signaled them by) and gave them space too, so I would NOT ride them on the straights. The last session was with the Novice class (I don’t know why I was with the intermediate before) and I showed the slower drivers respect as well and only passed them in the dedicated passing area, and I didn’t ride their tails. Super fun HPDE and autocross too! Both need smooth inputs of all the instruments. ❤❤❤

@William Arrington it's in quotation marks. He is making a joke about the corvette driver in the video. 😂

One thing about mid engine car is that, once you trail break enough and point the car's nose at the right direction. The car would just hook and go.

He could learn a bit more about the big wheel thingy that he’s supposed to use to turn too*
The go pedal, yes…the stop pedal, not so much….
Seems like he's just there for the straights. He should just go hit the drag strip next time.
That all they know okay!!! Trail breaking.. Whats that. Car balance, who cares.

You need to push the staff to have him removed from the event. It's simply unsafe for all the other drivers and he is obviously not skilled enough to be in your run group. You may also want to express to the SCCA organizer that you and your friends will have to consider if TNIA is the right events for your to attend in the future.
I know they at least talked to him before the next session but pretty sure they still let him run 🤦♂️
He just needs instruction. Bump him down to novice, give him an instructor and teach him. He knew to give the brz a point. That shows some recognition of the circumstance. Just kicking people out because he doesn’t understand doesn’t help. He’ll just sign up for another organization’s event.

Yeah I feel like half the time Porsches and corvettes at track days are driven by older dudes who finally managed to buy their dream car, and are too worried about crashing their baby to push it in the corners (which is fine, I'd be cautious too.)
But when someone with one of these cars shows up and has the know-how and willingness to push the car to its limits, they can be very fast.
yea man that's def true! but at least do it in novice class where everyone is kind of putting around the track 🤷♂️
There is a difference between pushing the car at the limits and just taking bad lines. He should have been in the novice class.
@@jasmy-canada And driving a car with less horsepower so he can learn in that class.
These people need to build their cornering skills first in autocross. Everyone can go fast in a straight line with a fast car.
Auto cross or get put in a lower group or even denied track time… I’m all for letting everyone drive on the track but if they are an active danger or nuisance to everyone else it’s simply not fair
Anyone can go fast in a POS too.
He must feel so badass squishing his foot down and gripping the wheel, probably makes a "jazz" face and feels like a real big man mashing a pedal!
The C8 is stupid easy to drive, which is what makes this embarrassing.
I going to actually disagree here, autocross can teach you bad habits from a road course perspective. What this guy needs is a lead a follow session, plus a full track day in a bone stock Miata or BRZ/ 86. Slow RWD cars make you faster.
That old dude is having the time of his life. Ignorance is bliss.
Look at the bright side. The times when you were trying to build a gap on the C8 you were driving amazingly with some serious concentration and motivation.
These older guys have zero neck strength. They go any more than 30mph through a corner and they'll pop a fucking vein, forget crashing their baby.
Wanna know why some talk about “old” people driving vettes? Because just like any other car that’s infinitely better than a piece of crap feminine looking BRZ - people 40 and up are the morherf’ers that can afford it. Really not hard to understand. ty sir appreciate it 🤙
I took my CR-Z that was bone stock at the time (save for suspension, larger wheels and tires) on Brainerd International Raceway on a day with Corvettes. Mine was by far the slowest car there. No one disobeyed any rules, but I ended up reeling in the one Charger Hellcat multiple times. He would fly down the straights but in the corners I began catching up after several laps! I gave him a bit of shit about it since I had 1/6th the power he had. 😂
Hellcats feel like boats in the corners.
Go team CR-Z!! :D
Hellcats are like SUVs
Aye I used to live like 5 mins from BIR
Straights are for fast cars. Corners are for fast drivers.

Almost ended up slamming into the side of them.

that turn onto the straight (timestamp 2:33) looks scary, heavy braking zone, pavement transition and a high speed turn with no runoff... I have to imagine that 2:36 was a pucker moment.
My thoughts exactly!

Letting go of the steering wheel and having to have the driver's hand in sight, doesn't seem to be very practical to me?

@@von... The GT-R doesn't (at least that one didn't). In this case the awful partial throttle behavior was the driver. ;-)
Wow such a cool story we all very much believe

Without a dct cooler you pretty much can do like 3-4 laps before needing to cool down
Also I am very surprised someone will bring their GTR to Hennessey in 2023. They are reputable for lying and I'm sure they are saying 700 to the crank not the wheel. Likely a FBO gtr
That would be incredibly aggravating.
Some mighty fine driving there! Took my first gen 86 t NC to run Dragons Tail and had a C8 corvette in front of me just annoying the hell out of me.
Your typical subaru driver is a moving apex from this Corvette Driver.
I can see a more experienced driver in a lighter car catch up quickly but the 86 driver basically teleported behind the C8.
oh absolutely! no question the c8 driven by someone competent is a different tier of car. especially on a power track like this
I've seen grandmas drive faster in the corners than that dude
@@Shadowboost LOL right? I almost thought like the car broke down or something, nope just driving slow.
Sad that this is a "typical" Corvette driver at a track day. Some of us are ok. 😁
It’s not people just wish it was so they can justify being haters
Never bring a Subaru BRZ or Scion FR-S to a track LOL
I'm literally a minute and change into the video and that C8 driver can't brake for SHIT lol.
Genuinely quite wholesome in a way
I wonder if the whole problem would be solved if they opened up passing from in-between 1 and 2 and 9 and 10.
I've done the north and south there. I like this one better....although going into turn one at full tilt is fun too.
He needs to sell that thing and buy a miata until he figures out wtf hes doing.
You seem to be the only one that knows what an apex is. And you’re a very good driver. 👍🏻
