Reject processed foods and predominately eat whole foods plant based. In the winter, eat frozen fruits and veg or Canadian brown root vegetables and brassicas like cabbage and kale when price or availability is an issue. Frozen also got me through the pandemic when I only went to the store once a month. That being said, in Canada if you don’t go outside, vitamin d still needs to be considered, just not in the mega amounts often offered.

    • @HappyMonkey11
      @HappyMonkey11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@snake1625b B12 is made by the bacteria in the soil. We no longer consume this bacteria with our food and water due to sanitation so we need to supplement. Meat eaters get it recycled from the animals (who are ironically supplemented with it as well). Plant based eaters need to take a B12 supplement directly. :)

@@snake1625b It's popularly believed that older adults can't absorb B12 properly. In fact, only about 20% (1 in 5) have this problem. Yet most doctors recommend all their older patients take a B12 supplement, without bothering to identify a problem first. Doses of 1000 mcg or more (400 times the recommended daily allowance) are usually suggested. My wife's doctor pulled this stunt and I hit the roof when I found out. It turned out she did NOT have a deficiency. That doctor was playing Russian roulette with her health.

I got positive out come with high power (7000 iu d3 +k2). If we get sunlight our skin creat 20,000 iu d. So lil bit high dose of d3 with k2 is not a problem. However, if you got cold and flue take high dose C . With in two days ..you will be clear. D, k2, zink, C and magnesium this safe me from Australian flue. It’s my personal experience.

Before taking supplements, thoroughly examine your diet and its nutritional content.
That way, you can rule out what you absolutely do NOT need to ingest more of. My diet for example, is pretty low in magnesium.
So I know that I need to compensate for that - either by adjusting my diet or taking (an appropriately proportioned) supplement.

You know what she said to me? She was like "the best thing is, just have enough sleep and rest, eat properly and it will show the biggest difference". TBH i never really was big on all that BS, except when my mom would go for one or the other. But she wasn't huge on those either. Something I've heard (or read) is that foods today don't have the same level of nutrients they had 60-70 years ago, because the soil is overused (for lack of a better word). So, that is why we would need to eat so much more vegetables or fruit to equal what one fruit gave us 60-70 years ago. Hence the need for vitamins to supplement our diet, since we cannot eat the quantities of food needed to get our daily requirements of vitamins and minerals.

I was taught that consumption doesn't equal absorption. Nobody's body absorbs 100% of the nutrients you consume, especially if you're naturally thin. That is why they put up to 10x the daily recommended IU level of vitamins in supplements. If most of it is going to end up in the toilet then you would need to over consume to absorb the desired amount. I learned this in a nutrition class in a culinary school, would love to get someone's 2 cents on it as I have never been challenged on this opinion before. Am i right/wrong? Thanks.

If you look at recommended intake in Australia they actually explain the studies they looked at to come to the recommendation. All recommendations are excessive to have a buffer and does take into account likely rate of absorption. If you look around the world the recommendations are slightly different but within 10% or so of each other.

However, you are correct in that the govt has to come down on those who sell non-real foods. I'd like junk food heavily taxed. If the cheapest small bag of chips (about $1.50) were $3 by weight (~55gr), the larger bags would be prohibited in price for those with common sense. A small bag now and then isn't so bad.

The doctor at 18:49 looks like he eating a good diet. Regardless of what anyone says here, if he could post his diet we would all be better off. Shortages of some minerals in local soils do put farmers who eat exclusively from that soil at risk. It's not hard to see that poor teeth might be related to a lack of something, if everyone in the area has poor teeth. If they could have more localized studies, I think it would justify the sale of CERTAIN items in regional areas, and an information campaign through the public health department to promote the benefits of certain minerals in such an area are beneficial. If you visit a restaurant and could line up the patrons, and then look at their general well being, and ask what they normally eat and take as supplements, youi might get a better feel for what is lacking in the area. Lack of iron, Vit D, even things like iodine, cause huge problems for people.

Although it does happen, I highly doubt there would be enough anabolic steroids from this type of contamination (equipment wasn’t cleaned well enough) to cause clitoral enlargement (which occurs after long-term steroid use) and for there to be growth of male breasts when vitamin intake is stopped (due to the higher levels of estrogen produced naturally in response to an exogenous supply of testosterone). Anabolic steroids also do not necessarily make you aggressive, not to the point of causing you to get kicked out of school. Contamination is a big issue, especially for athletes who are subjected to tests, and people on anti-depressants and birth control. However this seems to be really exaggerated, which they’d have an interest in doing if they’re suing the manufacturer of the tainted pills.

...as for myself , in my youth and middle age I was a pretty good athlete ... was on and off 'gear' (PED's - steroids) in order to be at a top level and push my body beyond my genetics. I was also taking supplements that put a good dent in my wallet. But today - no more supplements or gear and I'm over 60, still training but feeling great and not ''overused''. The only difference is that I no longer feel the need to be at a competitive level where health is compromised - now I go for health and well being

But cantaloupe is not the most vitamin c intense fruit. He should have used kiwi. 1 person can easily eat 5 kiwis...which would make 350mg of vit.c, so maybe the pill could be divided into 2 or 3 for daily use (if the person is eating fast food all day). But when someone is sick, doctors recommend 1000mg per day. Excess vit.c is taken out of the body with urine anyway.

Wait who takes omega-3 for their heart health?? I take them for my brain... because that's what omega-3 is for??? Like. I just don't eat fish very often, so I take some omega-3 supplements regularly to ensure that my brain has what it needs to function. Like if I've eaten fish that day (or even the day previous)? I skip the supplement. And I only really take it every other day as is.... Sheesh.

The blonde woman championing massive vitamin D doses, avoided the question, when asked if she had any scientific evidence for her claims. She got nervous, swallowed a couple of times, paused, and said, there's lots of evidence, did not mention one peer reviewed paper, just says the evidence is there. Not nearly good enough.
The peer reviewed papers on the subject contradicts what that person tells people, in order to sell product.
The few studies I have read about chemical analysis of "supplements" sold in stores that sell supplements, have found many strange and dangerous substances in those products and usually little or none of the ingredient people believe they are buying.
That is what happens when such consumables are unregulated. You have no way of actually knowing what is in the pill, capsule, or liquid you are putting into your body.
I laughed big when I learned that the man who concocted the Purety products was a chiropractor. He was not a "chemist", he had some chemistry in university but gave up science to pursue chiropractic garbage. Chiropractic practice is also full of unverifiable claims.
The claim that uncleaned mixers might be the source of the steroids in the purety products is absolute BS. To get those kind of symptoms from steroids, you are taking a lot of it, not just the traces a mixer might leave in a batch.

Advertising is the art of arresting the mind for long enough to gain money from it.
Think about this before buying anything that is supposed to be "good for you".
Remember, advertising agents are experts in their field

I would be very interested in you doing a documentary on prescription drugs - but I think you probably would choose not to for fear of loosing your cushy job
