If you feel overwhelmed by getting into sim-racing; there is a guy consistently running in the top 5-10% in dirt rally online using nothing but a DFGT and a thrift store chair all while high out of his mind. I know him, he's me.

I’ve loved my Logitech G920 for the past 2 years. I’ve learned so much about the racing scene while using it. I’ve recently ordered DD hardware but as a beginner the G920 was so much fun.

had Logitech stuff many-many years ago. in the last 15-20 years i've played arcade racing. but then i saw ACC and iRacing videos and felt that "tihs is my world". so, for Christmas I bough an R5 bundle with a next level F-GT. aaaaand I enjoy every second when I can drive!

I've never been into racing sims and wheels cuz they always costed too much, 300 to 400 € is the bare minimum for any kind of quality. The logitech G29 Is shite for example, even though recommended for some reason. It makes way too much noise, shakes like a climaxing girl and people say the force feedback is like driving a toy car.
Wheels is the reason I've never been into racing sims and it's a big shame. It's a vicious cycle of not enjoying the amazing world of racing sims. Not worth buying racing sims cuz i don't have a wheel and it's not worth having a wheel cuz they cost way too much.
However, I think I might give it a try because of Gran Turismo 7 ON VR.
I got asap cuz the PSVR2 is a high end VR system that runs BETTER than PC because of foveated rendering, which really works, really goddamn fucking well, for less than half the price on PC (just a good VR headset comparable but still worse than the PSVR2 is 700$, add 700$ for the controllers and it's 1400$ vs 550$, while I already have a PS5. So win win.
Gran turismo 7 in VR with a good wheel set up is racing perfection.
But I just dropped 600$ for the VR, plus another 100$ for some games, then add the price for gt7 and a good set up and ...damn, in total it's more than 1000$.

I am a casual player. I needed a wheel / pedal setup that works with PS 3/4/5 as well as the occasional PC game. I purchased a TM T-150 and have been happy with it for years. A playseat challenge folds up and gives me a comfortable cockpit. Most options are out of my budget but I would highly recommend the T-150 for anyone on a budget.

  • @applecharlie4664

I've always been interested in sim racing but my big hurdle is the bduget and choosing the right starting wheel for me. This gives me a lot of idea on how I could start with the budget I have and get the most bang for my buck since as said in the video I would still see if I will really get into it or just going to be a casual player. Insightful.

Every beginner racing sim video says to go used, but in my area people seem to think 5-10$ off the retail price (or my favorite, somehow more expensive than amazon) is the correct price to sell used controllers for.

I would recommend the "Thrustmaster TMX FF (Force Feedback) " it is cheap (200€) and as the name suggests, it has great force feedback. Unfortunetly it comes with only 2 paddles but i would HIGHLY Recommend starting with this one.

I was gonna go all put and start with a moza or fanatec but decided to grab a Logitech g920 and I love it. I'm glad I did tho bc I now need a cockpit and more so while I'm actually learning to drift and stuff as I didn't think it'd be as hard as it is. I can get all the other stuff in the meantime. If your just starting out I'd said the logitech is a good purchase.

When I started to get more interested in the Dirt Titles like Dirt 3, Dirt 4 I got my hands on a Thrustmaster Driving Force GT. Going onto my First Xbox One and FM6 through to FH4 it was the Logitech G920. Now I'm doing alot of Simcade and Full Sims and currently running a Thrustmaster T500RS. I loved all the Wheels that I owned and I can only imagine what my Future holds

I just got the R5 bundle and it’s amazing! I did the headfirst dive into sim racing and went DD for my first wheel. My first race in wreckfest was insane and I crashed all over. So much fun after years of controller racing. However, I might return the bundle and just get the base because I prefer a round wheel and the pedals and clamp could be improved in order to match the performance of the base. I need to find a good set of peddles and a simple round wheel for about the same price? Any ideas?

Recently built a Ryzen 9 5700/RTX 3060 with 3 monitors for work (already had the monitors, this was an upgrade from an R7 2700/Vega 56 I built 5 years ago). Never really gamed but decided to give sim racing a try. Picked up AC Ultimate on Steam for $40, tried a controller first but it was way too sensitive with the steering and I really wanted a more realistic experience. Was able to pick up a G29 with pedals on sale on Amazon for $230. Love it. Had it clamped to my desk, but after a week upgraded to a Next Level GT Lite cockpit for $230. HUGE difference. So for about $500 all-in I have a cockpit, wheel/pedal and simulator software. I am having a blast. When ACC goes on sale I plan to pick that up since I love the GT cars but for now I can say I am very happy with my set up and would recommend the G29, especially at $230

Don't forget the turn down force for the t300 when letting smaller kids use it. 3.9NM is not a lot power for an adult, but it's still enough to hurt quite a lot for a small kid.
Still, my daughter really enjoys it, especially since we found a solution to make the pedals for her and raised them and her quite a bit for a good cockpit position.
The quick release of the T300 is still like the worst you could imagine.

@@zwarr basically, I got the Thrustmaster wheel and pedals for £175, which wasn't that great of a deal given the condition that it was in (there were quite a few scratches, the person had bought it second hand so he didn't know how old it was, and it was very dusty). Regarding the playseat challenge, I found a great deal where someone was selling the chair + Logitech G29 + shifter for £100. I then sold the Logitech G29+shifter for £150 and kept the chair so altogether it was about £175 (after deducting the cost of driving to collect items)

got a g25 some years ago for 100usd and still rocking well enough, thinking about the t300 or the R5 or the new cammus c5, I just want something slightly more quieter and quick to drift, a problem with finding a new wheel its that usually they all come without a shifter, I may just get an adaptor for my g25 shifter and use it standalone since still good, altho it has some problems on g3 and g5 sometimes it goes to neutral all of sudden,
But a clutch pedal and a shifter are quite important for my mx5 and manual cars, its just another special little thing I enjoy

With Moza R5 I think you should've mentioned the $40 "ES Formula Wheel Mod" for the ES wheel which turns it into a formula/gt-style wheel. It makes the setup even more versatile for just a bit more money.

The upgrade is not €40! €689 is the price for the add-on wheel not the bundle with the wheel.

@@lknight288 I think you’re mistaking for the formula wheel they have, commenter is talking about the formula rim upgrade for the wheel that comes with the R5

@@lknight288 As @phantom-dev said, you're talking about "FSR Formula wheel". I'm talking about "ES Formula Wheel Mod".
