You also don't need to buy the whole setup at once. You can just buy the wheel first, then get a shifter later on, then a handbrake, etc. I didn't have a shifter and a handbrake for a long time and the only issue really was that you can't really shift while drifting (unless your wheel has the paddles on the base instead of the wheel). Not having a handbrake in the beginning even forces you to learn drifting without having to rely on it for everything. So even if your budged is around 400, I would still recommend the T300 and then keep saving up for the rest.
Old logitech wheels like a driving force GT or pro has a sequencial stick shifter that can be assigned to handbrake, or just used as a sequencial shifter if you wanna go handbrakeless (they use buttons behind the wheel as paddles but you can DIY actual paddles to make it more comfortable to use). You can also assign the handbrake to like spacebar on the keyboard or something easy to press.
I only ever owned a g27 but I never had any complaints. I thought it was smooth as butter. The h-shifter felt a little cheap, but honestly worked like a charm. Especially because the whole setup with a stand only cost me £120, so I couldn't complain.
you think that because you only ever owned a g27. i had the opportunity to test my thrustmaster tx (xbox version of the t300) against my cousin's g90 (xbox version of the g29) and yeah, it's a pretty huge gap. they are priced similarly but the tx is clearly a tier above. g90 isn't ... i mean, when the game is properly calibrated for it, it works well. but it is usually not, so there's like an annoying dead zone in the center that's just awful. also it's anything but smooth
The thing that makes the logitech wheel a lot more accessible, is that there are so many used models around. I managed to pick up a G27+shifter for $70 and it's a great start.
For racing they're an amazingly good value wheel. but for drifting they are basically useless. They simply don't have a fast enough rotation speed for self steer to work. The wheels because out of sync with whatever the car is doing when linking drifts.
@@j13nkz They work fine for drifting in the sim but they don't translate to drifting in real life like a direct drive wheel does. With a direct drive, even a budget one like the moza R5, the wheel is basically doing EXACTLY what the car in the sim wants it to do. which is what it would also do in real life. With the logitech wheels its an approximation of what the steering wheel would actually do. It can only spin so fast, so the car in the sim is counter steering a lot slower than real life.
@@dacasman i never had a direct drive but i only got my g27 today cause it was cheap for 200 NZD currency, i find it nice for a strater wheel, i wont keep it for a long time, ill eventually upgrade since it doesnt exactly feel the best BUT it does its job at putting the fun in drifting haha
@@j13nkz All that matters is you're have fun! If you never plan on using it as a tool to learn drifting a real car then it doesn't matter at all really haha.
Running a LUT file through some games turns the G923 into a whole new animal by testing and correcting its force feedback output. In Assetto with mods it is fantastic.
T300 was my first wheel bought it about 2 years ago. I play AC and ACC every day almost. Usually do half hour practice and 1 hour races almost daily. I have the FFB completely full in ACC and about 45% in AC. The pedals are caked in dust and dirt and it's a bit worn, but after God knows how many hours played, this thing is still performing perfectly. I can say 100% this is impressive and I recommend it to any beginner. My arm muscles have only recently out grown this beast! great wheel guys! 😄 💪
The biggest reason why all g series wheels are making loud clunky noises is because of bad grease between the gears. Buy new thicker grease and it's a huge difference in sound. They're all built the same way since g25 and this fix solves 90% of all loud noises on all gseries wheels. I bought a used G25 for 100 last month, applied new grease and tensioned all screws inside. It feels so much better than my brothers new g923, will apply same grease to his as well.
@@StreetRunners_NL I would love to help but making videos isn't something I got time for atm. However, there's a few old videos of others doing the same things here on TH-cam. Just make sure you're using plastic grease and NOT grease that could dissolve the plastic. If you want to go the extra step get different grease to also apply to the bearing and metal parts. Search: Logitech G27 Re-grease with Rclube-xp/mxp. Good luck mate
ive been simracing for about 6 months my current setup is a used g27 i bought off a friend with the shifter for 150 CAD i bought a subaru WRX seat from a junkyard for 40 CAD and I built my simrig out of scrap metal I cleaned off and welded together free it originaly was a single 27" monitor i picked up from a thrift store for 40 buck so original cost to start simracing was 230 CAD. I have since upgraded to an oculus (due to lack of space for multiple monitors and cheaper than multiple quality monitors) and now looking at DD setup. just some inspiration for people if you are on a budget its a very decent setup especially if you are handy and dont mind modding your wheel. i built a custom button plate for the g27 and threw on a sparco wheel i found on marketplace for 40 bucks
snatched a g923 around june, costed me around 280 dollarydoos. it's my first time ever driving something like that, and it has worked just nice. and yeah, i do wish it was less louder, but i can live with it. planning on getting a handbrake, a cheap aliexpress one soon. so far, i've learned to drive thanks to it, and i can go thru gears like a champ. my main sim is BeamNG
I remember, 20 years ago DIY making my own 720° steering wheel. 3 pedal, handbrake and sequential gear shifter also done DIY. All this plugged into gameport. No FFB though, but it was too complicated to make. It weighed 10kg wheel+handbrake+gearshift, 5kg pedals. It was a tank. I had so much pleasure of using it. Now everything progressed and Yesterday I ordered my t300rsgt. Wonder how it will feel after 15 years of not playing any racing game =D
me same shit and you know logitech pedals shifter wheel i got it ( was already used) for around 175 when if buy new it was 250 buy after this ebay handbrake for 70 forgot this shit don't gives you adapter for mount on table then + 30 but at the end for me it's pretty good but like my dad said it (19 years old need more money xd mb ) it make soo much noise i don't trust him and when i let the wheel make calibrating shit i sit out of my room with door closed and bruh that shit make hudge noises
@@angry_birds_OFFICAML it’s not the same because sim steering wheels have motors which simulate force feedback. Like different road surfaces can be smooth or bumpy. You can actually feel it when you hit a kerb. It’s definitely expensive but it’s not just a controller with pedals.
I finally bought a wheel last summer. Amazon day sale had the G29 for $180, shifter $50, joystick for handbrake $20, and gt omega stand for... $120 I think it was. Whole set-up for less than $400, and I absolutely love it. Idk how direct drive feels, so idk what I'm missing out on, but I'm stoked on my little driving sim.
gear wheels are pretty bad for drifting or any traction loss scenarios, self steering doesnt work as well so you have to throw the wheel around frantically to keep the car going in the right direction
The main problem is reliability, in a poll half of the partecipants complained having problems with T300RS. The pedals too are cheap in t300rs compared to g29 ones and i think they're a priority for racing compared to the wheel.
i had that same hesitation when i bought it, seems that the issue was firmware and since they fixed it, the majority of new purchases have zero issues. I love my t300. and the T-lcm pedals are really good compared to the logitechs
G29 peddles have done me well i had to take them a apart to take a rubber stop out the break peddle though if you dont do that breaking is really unresponsive and difficult.
I used to agree with you, I had a G29 for a couple years then moved on to a thrustmaster TX which lasted a year until it broke and wouldnt calibrate plus acted really strange when going lock to lock. I decided to go to Direct drive so I didnt have to worry about a belt driven base breaking on me again. I upgraded to the Alpha Simagic Mini and I was blown away with how good it was and how much better a sim drifter/driver I have become, it is night and day with the force feedback and accuracy. My friend also has a Moza R9 and his is great to, his was what made me want to upgrade initially. Do it Goosy upgrade to DD
I went from a T150 to a G29, realised my mistake and got a T300RS, I def recommend getting thrusmaster even starting out bc the wheels are much smoother, and you can build up your setup, doesn't have to be complete from the get go if money is tight, still fun, and handbrake isnt much of a need with drifting, i started with using an assigned button for a bit then just stopped using the handbrake at all in my drifting
If you are looking to upgrade, think about getting loadcell pedals before thinking about DD wheels, its a much better improvement over DD wheels and is less expensive to replace.
You forgot the Thrustmaster T-150, you will need better pedals, but it at least gets you in the door for the time being. What I love about Thrustmaster is that all of their pedals work with even their lowest end setup like the T-150. I added their magnetic pedal setup after a few months and will never look back! I already use the ebay H shifter/handbrake combo so that's a great piece of advice there (and yes they both work great!). I attached it all to the excellent Next Level Racing GT Lite collapsible cockpit and I'm in this game for under $700US total. Can't go wrong with that!
I have that GT Lite cockpit and it's a great product for the money. Running it with an Ebay USB shifter and a Thrustmaster T248 wheel and pedal setup all bolted to the cockpit with 2 bass shakers (one under pedals, larger one on the back of seat), and an Odyssey g9 ultra widscreen monitor. VERY fun setup.
for drifting I wouldn't advise it. I got the TMX (xbox version of t-150) and while I could drift with it I really had to work for it (like physically), then I got a t300 and it was a world of difference. now drifting can be pretty much effortless cuz the wheel has enough power/speed to countersteer on it's own. t150 is just too slow/weak IMO, t300 is like the bare minimum i'd suggest. for just racing I guess it's fine but once you feel the way smoother t300 you'd regret not getting that instead (I know I did)
As far as I'm concerned, if you're new, get a g29. That's what I got when I didn't have much money, and it felt so good. For the price, compared to the better options, its unbeatable. If you haven't used belt or dd, you don't know what you're missing. They're easy to sell too, if you do find yourself wanting to upgrade for something better.
@@noot3778 agreed when i was buying one i was on the fence of whether to get the g29 or t150 i ended up ordering the t150 from amazon just to return it the next day and get the t300 rs gt because the t150 was so much fun i wanted the better wheel
funniest thing is i have the slightly better version of the $50 wheel and ive been using it for like 3 years and now i find myself watching a youtube video dogging on his brother
I've started with a thrustmaster Tmx pro. It was great to experience how sim racing is. Bought the th8a shifter ( that cost as much as the Tmx pro ) and really liked it. Upgraded to a t300 with custom wheel on it. Night and day difference. It's so much better!
so the t300 is better than the tmx pro? i guess i dodged a bullet. did you have issues with the button box when upgrading to an aftermarket wheel? im bout to get one but I dont know if i need something to relocate the buttons on the wheel
@@or3n_ for the t300, u can remove the rim of the wheel, buy an adapter and place a aftermarket wheel on it. Some buttons are easy to reach, some are hard to reach. I use my tablet with simdashboard app for my buttons and works really well.
About a week ago I found an old Thrustmaster Force Feedback GT in the attic and decided to test it on Richard Burns Rally to see if it would still work. Even though the brake pedal didn't work and it only has 270° steering angle I still had so much fun using it. After a few days I really wanted a proper wheel so for Christmas i'm getting a t150, excited to see how different the force feedback and the huge difference in steering angle will feel on RBR and CarX :)
T150 is a great starter but if you're like me you might get bored of it quick. My biggest pet peeve is the wheel size I think it's too small and it's not changeable.
@@EeyoreChilling What games did you used to play with it, because that might be why you got bored of it so quickly. And i have small hands and arms so i dont think the wheel size will be an issue. edit: I can try the wheel for the first time in an hour or so :)
Hi, I have logitech formula force ex, wanna upgrade from it to T150, so my question is how about feeling, is it worth? Cause i think formula force FX is even worse than your old wheel.
After doing some research with my budget of 5-600 I'm going with the g923 wheel with how the trueforce and everything works seems nice, the pedals feel great I see, and the shifter I went with the th8a, wanted a solid long throw shifter because that's what I always knew and drove was older vehicles with sticks. Can't wait to have it all setup! My first sim rig.
Personally I think it was a wrong choice, the trueforce is only good for a couple of games, and it's just a rumble feature for what I heard, the pedals are ok, but aren't any better than the T300. I've owned both, and rn I have the T300. Bought it used for 180€ at the time and got the clubsport V3s from fanatec for 250€ used. Killer deals and they are incredible pieces of gear
@Pedro Silva I can respect your choice on that, just was going all new on everything and payed 350 for the g923 instead of 450 for t300, I like the looks of the logitech wheels with the leather and all, wouldn't of had enough to swap wheels to a different one for the t300, just my take, im happy with my purchase, bunch of 3rd party modifications you can do with them too. The th8a is such a nice shifter! Got it for 180.
@Pedro Silva and I've heard of multiple people having issues with the belt system on the thrustmaster wheels, I hear the logitech gear driven wheels are more reliable. Idk if that's true or not. But just other stuff I heard between the 2.
@@coltenlooney5811 thing is you could ve gotten a used t300 or a g29 for way less. Hence why it was a bad purchase because you re buyingnew. Any product has problems. Never heard the argument that the gear driven wheels were more reliable quite the opposite. But hey happy you re happy
@@pedrosilvaproductionsif he doesn't like it he can always sell and get something else.. Also it's not a bad purchase as he has nothing to compare his experience with. If he likes the wheel and feels that he is spending a lot of time racing.... them upgrade. No point in spending $100 more with no wheel experience.
Hi Goose, you inspired me to start sim racing, today i’m getting the T150 with 2 pedal set because 3 pedals aren’t necessary since i won’t be using shifter because i’ll pay for it more that the wheel itself. Thank you for inspiring me and giving your tips.
I got myself a used thrustmaster t150 for around 80 bucks + 8 bucks shipping. I know it's not the t300 but it's a damn good wheel that gave me countless hours of fun for a really good price and it's a damn good wheel.
I directly compared the T300 and a Fanatec DD pro in some top titles and the difference is massive. The T300 is a decent wheel compared to some low end G2*, but if you can spend the extra money, I think it's worth it.
@@thrasherdave1428 I believe you can be competitive with a T300. It's the more direct feel of fine nuances that get lost in the T300 compared to a direct drive. A pro wheel doesn't make you a pro driver. I'm far from it, but I like the better immersion.
@@thrasherdave1428 Spend your money on a loadcell pedal if winning or in other words speed is your priority. A dd wheel improves you experience a lot compare to belt or gear, but wouldn't really improve your speed.
Awesome video! Do note that theTH8A can be set as handbrake by adjusting the driver, you will then just use the pedals for shifting - Could be a great workaround when on budget!
Yes, G29 feels kinda toyish. But you can't hide the great value for the price. Good FFB, 3 pedals and sadly separate shifter. For entry level sim racing and its price it is doing same job as better wheels. I'm somewhat intermediate/advanced in sim drifting and the G29 doesn't hold me back. Even though I wish I had Thrustmaster setup, the quality and feel is much better there. I have my shifter modded for better feel - stiffer shifting + custom knob mod. And with these mods you can really push the build to the limit.
@@Goosiest Yep that's true. But this is by the gear driven system. I meant good FFB as the torque is reasonable and you definitely can use it for casual gaming. It provides the effects, but terrible sound. In comaparison yes, the T300 has way better FFB. But that's expectable because it is 2x the price :) Last year I bought T150 RS, and it lasted exactly 2 hours :D I probably had defective piece from factory. But these 2 gaming hours were great with Thrustmaster.
i agree, i got a tmx pro for 200 bucks and compared to the logitech wheels it lasts longer is quieter and feels a hell of alot better than platic gearing. logitech seems to be old tech by now. tmx pro was cheaper and better at the time i got mine
@@Goosiest tbh if you've never tried a belt engine it's absolutely awesome. i went to an arcade once where they had like 20 setups with g29's, and because that was the first time i tried a racing wheel it felt great. that made me want a setup of my own so i bought a t150, thinking it was less good because its cheaper but it was much better after all. the only downside of the t150 is that it only has 2 padels
ive used g25 for a while and it was pretty decent, that i got it used for 20 bucks. it actually helped me get better on irl drifting too for such a setup
Have been racing for 23 years on a non-FFB MS Precision racing wheel (costing fl 125,00). Two years ago I put a gamepad (12 euro) on the wheel with two tie-reps to get some extra buttons (12 buttons + 2 pushable sticks). Have been driving with that for two years until I finally got a sale during last year Black Friday at Amazon and bought a T300RSGT with 3 pedals which also included a Ferrari wheel. Difference is 1 sec per lap but the MS wheel still works after 23 years of simracing... very durable.
ik this is wierd but i actually kind of like how the g29/g920 wheels have the loud noises and vibrations because i feel like it adds to the realism in a way idk might just be me
I researched thoroughly before buying a wheel, and my final choice was the Logitech G920 without the shifter. It was the cheapest option if we don't count the actual kid's toys. I also knew about its problems, that it turns too slow for drifting if set to full 900 degrees. This is why I've set it to 540 in assetto corsa, and it works perfectly. I absolutely did not want to spend a lot more on a T300 for a first wheel. So I would say the G920/G29 is the perfect beginner wheel, and then you can upgrade later to a better one as you start to see its flaws. For me, it's perfect for now, but I see that in the future I will probably swap it for a T300.
@@pipedgolf4634 I'll reply here, I know that here where I live, a new g29 is around 300€ not including the shifter. Personally, I found a used set of the wheel and shifter for 210, which has so far been working absolutely flawlessly and I do think is an absolute steal for the price. This and the fact that the T300 is quite literally a lottery win to even find used where I live, made me buy instead a g29. If I ever get into serious sim racing, which I probably won't, I'll buy a T300.
Well, after 3 months I ordered a T300 RS GT. The G920 just does not cut it for drifting. Rotation is just very slow. But on 540 degrees, even on 700, the sensitivity is too high, and you can't really maintain a precise angle for long. It's not that enjoyable. (Btw I tried LUT file, wheelcheck, adjusting FFB%, FFBClip, all sort of things) The T300 arrives tomorrow, can't wait.
1. Can you please include the links to the steering wheel, gears, and pedals that you’re using in the description box? 2. Also, can you include the links to the budget options that you recommend? 3. Lastly, can you include the link to the specific laptop that you’re using? This info would make things so much easier. Thank you 🙏🏻
one of the best no hesi content creators spitting mad facts, Im rocking a g29 i love it, had it for over a year or 2 now and honestly its the best budget wheel i owned in a while, lots of progammable buttons and the led light is nice cuz in ATS it can be uses to do other fuctions to see if ur tank is almost empty. But a t300 would be a future upgrade for me fs, great video dude
I've started with g920 with shifter on playseat and it's not too bad, but I got to know how massive difference is in belt driven and gear driven wheel just when I've added VR, RTX, Ryzen 9, ebay handbrake and g27 shifter with buttons. Just to not spend too much on everything, as it was quite expensive for me, I'll just wait a few months and probably move further with DD wheel. So yes, it's addicting.
have u tried the t300? i wanted a dd really bad then i got this and it feels so much better than the g29 that i put off getting a dd until i can get the best of the best.
@@or3n_ only at a friend's house and I know that it's muuuch better than logitech gear driven wheels, but since I was upgrading my setup I just went for R9 Moza
For anyone who needs this. I bought my g29 for Christmas of 2022 and I've had it for over a year now and it's been great. The shifter is good and everything is normal nothing changed and it works amazing. The feed back is great and the shifts are pretty clean. The paddle shifters are wonderful and the pedals are good you just gotta get used to it. Overall it's a 9/10 I'd only change some colors or the plastic feeling of the shifter.
I have a PXN V9, i got it new from ebay for $130 USD and it came with 900° steering wheel, 6 speed + reverse H patern shifter, and 3 pedals. Sure it only has vibration, not FFB but i can drift with it. For $130 it was a pretty good deal.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ My first setup: Logitech DFGT strapped to a pull-up bar clamped to the arms on my chair. . mapped clutch and handbrake to buttons on the wheel. It worked great for GT5 back in the day. The wheel itself lasted something like 9 years before it stopped functioning.
I did get Logitech DFGT as my first wheel setup I buy the used one for $90. Previous owner used it for like 3-4 years and I do have it almost 3 years now. It still works great for those who want a cheap wheel and on the budget.
I found a DFGT at a thrift store for $20 a few years back, couldn't be happier! Most the games I have are ancient so even if I was willing to spend the money on a newer wheel, it likely wouldn't be compatible.
I have G27 and bought used, really happy with it. bought it for 135 with a pvc pipe setup and car seat now also have the Ebay handbrake and really works fine
This was surprisingly a very informative video, I thought it would just be a funny video but it helped me decide to get the t300 over the g29, ESPECIALLY because I'd be playing at night while my younger sibling sleeps so I have to be quiet, the g29 is definitely not that.
I found a g920 Logitech wheel with shifter and pedals basically brand new some kid didn’t want as his pic couldn’t run any games and said the FFB didn’t work, haggled him down to £40 for the whole set changed the power cable for £12 and got the whole setup working with FFB for £52 and it’s amazing. Learning to drift on it is crazy fun just need a handbrake
I got the g29 over the summer just to drive in gta 5 and it’s been exactly what I was looking for. if anyone’s debating whether they should spend the extra money, I’ve been perfectly happy with my g29 for casual use. I’d say if you’re looking for the most realistic simulation then the extra money for the thrustmaster would definitely be worth it though
I just got a Thrustmaster TX (Used - Like New For $250) I built my own cockpit (around $50 worth of wood (You can also find blueprints for this kind of stuff on Etsy for like $5)), and I got a $80 shifter from amazon, and $60 Ebay handbrake. So all-in-all I spent around $440 for everything but you don't need the shifter/handbrake so its about $300 if you get a good deal on Facebook Marketplace (Where I got my wheel) But there are plenty of good deals for cheaper(You just have to be patient) I hope this helps :D
For everyone that says a logitech wheel is good enough, it really isnt... Well, if you're learning how to drift, you can manage it's quircks, but at the end of the day, that's it. I committed the mistake of buying a G27 in second hand 2 years ago,and although i said it was a mistake, i still love it, i will always love it and i wont sell it after i upgrade, thing is, after you learn everything you want to learn, you will be hard stopped by hardware, why? well, after i learned how to drift i started to want to take my progression further and further, until my wheel wasnt fast enough on transitions and i had to flick it so hard and press the clutch otherwise i would spinout, taking away my speed on leads or causing others to hit me due to low speed (yes, i use the ffb at 120 on assetto and everything is on max settings), thing is, this will be a reoccurrence on evry single game. Now, after i had the opportunity to test a T300, hell, my friend has a T150 and that thing even though much closer to my G27 performance, the wheel just responds in much faster times, so i started to want to upgrade to a T300 and hell, after i tested one, what a fucking game changer something better can be. So, my advice is, if you dont want to take things seriously, buy whatever fits your budget, but if you're like me who likes to take things further, serious and wants to learn more, being behind on hardware and equipment wont be the best and you will always be pushing yourself. Save enough for a good wheel, for example im saving for the T300 but i know theres a lot better wheels out there, it's YOUR choice, buy whatever fits your needs.
agreed, made the exact same mistake. got a TMX (xbox version of t150) first but it just doesn't really cut it. once I got a t300 I wanted to punch myself for not just getting that right away XD
Dont recall if it was mentioned but for console players you need to stay within the wheel base ecosystem for extras like shifters or handbrake unless you have something like drivehub but for pc sky is the limit
Honestly you made me feel a lot better about the Driving force GT I just bought for $80 used. 😂 Deep down I wanted the Logitech G29 but since I don't have too much time to race I cheaped out. Honestly still feels really good despite how crazy loud it is and crappy the pedals are. Doesn't sound like the G29 is a huge step up overall. Belt driven sounds like the way to go if I end up using the wheel lots.
OMG, I just picked up a used Driving Force GT for $80 CAD yesterday for my first wheel as well. 😂 I really wanted a new G29 or T150 with 3 peddles and a shifter - but I just couldn't justify the cost to play a $10 game. I mainly use it to play Euro Truck Simulator 2, but it's a lot of fun in racing games as well. Cheers!
I got a full G29 setup recently here in the UK. I got mine used, and the steering wheel and pedals WITH a playseat challenge seat rig cost £200. Then i got the shifter online and made a bracket to mount it to the chair.. and honestly, i’d highly recommend it. For much less than £300 i have an independent rig which is more than enough for my casual gaming on GT7 👍 just incase anyone was a newbie and considering their options, there’s some great deals out there
I have a g920 and it works really well for me. It's my first wheel setup. I don't even have a week on it and I'm dragging walls on lfs. I picked my wheel shifter and pedals up used like new on ebay for $230usd and built my own stand with monitor stand out of wood for less than $100usd and used a seat I took out of my track car.
@@dirtysocks6391 mine doesn't shake much. I only have my ffb set to 60 and my centering spring is turned off. I don't like a ton of ffb just because it's not realistic. Real cars don't have that much feedback because almost every car you drift in real life has power steering so the wheel isn't ever as heavy as you would think.
@@dirtysocks6391 the G923 is the biggest offender as far as i know, it has that trueforce thingy, idk if that affects it's tendency to rattle like a rusty honda. source: i own that one.
I started in 1995 with a Thrustmaster Formula T1 with no FFB, upgraded in 2000 to a Logitech Wingman Formula Force, took about a 20 year hiatus, then when I got back into it, I got a used Thrustmaster Ferrari Wireless GT Cockpit 430 Scuderia Edition because I had no space. And when it came to upgrading that 2 years ago, I looked at new and the prices were insane, so Intended up getting a used TM T300RS, T3PA-Pro pedals for $500 CND, and then got a new TH8A shifter, TSS handbrake and Sparco P310 wheel, and that all cost the same price a new Fanatec DD when, base and 2 pedal set up would have cost after exchange, shipping and customs charges to Canada. And honestly, I really like Thrustmaster products, and for the amount of racing I do, it is 100% capable.
I went halfway between the Logitech G29 and Thrustmaster T300 and got the newer Thrustmaster T248. It's a hybrid gear/belt drive and feels better than the TMX Pro I had before it but probably not as good as the T300. Being I'm in Australia, everything is a lot more expensive here so I had to make a compromise at the time, but I'm more than happy with what I have. It works well and certainly, I'm able to handle most vehicles better with it than the TMX Pro. The good thing too is that if I want to upgrade the wheel, I can and still use the pedals from the T248.
I’m late to the discussion, but I’ll chime in for anyone getting started today. I bought a refurbished g923 from Logitech during a sale for $250 (sales are frequent). It’s indistinguishable from new and has the same warranty. The shifter was on sale for $50. With a sturdy but inexpensive rig that locks into my gaming chair, my whole setup was just under $500. I wanted the Thrustmaster but it was out of stock everywhere at the time. I’ve had no regrets, and I would recommend this setup to anyone getting started. Tip - set steering sensitivity to 5, ffb sensitivity to 10, and limit max torque to 7 or less for the best experience.
Funny you mentioned belt driven wheels are fine - I actually went from my thrustmaster t500 rs to a DD GT Fanatec Pro set - my thrustmaster died, after 10+ years of service and honestly it was a great, great set (had the GT steering wheel, F1 steering wheel, pedals and H shifter). After so many years of having thrustmaster I just wanted something else and the DD felt more of an upgrade than going for the current t300 (which felt more like a downgrade to me). I've played all kinds of racing games with it, some arcade other more sim like - but so far have been able to get my wheel to work. Incl. ATS and ETS2. Downside is ... yeah, the FFB is massively different. I'm using the same desk setup as I've always have and now after every play session I've actually moved my entire desk (with a tower pc, monitor and the fanatic base on it) in about a 20 to a 30 degrees angle. So, now I"m looking onto a racing cockpit like next level or playseat. Also the brake is a load cell and that's very different and will take me a while to get used to (load cell brake measures force instead of motion to interpret the amount of brake that is applied, just a FYI). Though, I do agree with you - logitech/thrustmaster makes great steering wheels that is supported in most if not all games. ps: haven't broken any wrists yet
My setup is just a g923 with the shifter, but my flight sim setup has some thrustmaster products and they are very high quality compared to the same priced Logitech equipment. I am definitely going to get a thrustmaster wheel and shifter and stuff once my current setup breaks.
I've had a G29 4 months haven't been able to drift at all. I'm also pretty new. However, the LUT Generator changed how it behaves a LOT. Within 24 hours of using the LUT generator on my wheel I was drifting.
I have a G920.. I didn't have a huge budget.. But anyways.. It isn't loud like the G29 and it is gear driven.. It cost me $200 and works well. Love you, Goosey boy!
I have a thrustmaster T80 Ferrari 458 edition, it’s basically an entire setup in one. Shifting? It has paddle shifters. Acceleration? It comes with pedals. If your an absolute brokie like me it’s pretty damn good and isn’t that expensive
The Momentum PRO Racing Wheel is a pretty solid budget steering wheel, in my country it costs 125€. And it has a sequential shifter on the wheel, also, it has a h-shifter included with the wheel, and, it has three pedals.
You can adjust the g923's force feedback or turn it off and adjust it in-game.... if you just plug it in and launch some game of course I won't be optimized.. The thrustmaster is smoother because belts slip, that isn't better necessarily. You get finer input detail with gear and direct drive (gear is very similar to direct drive, at least more so than it is similar to belt drive) If you tune the g923's force feedback you can get the same smoothness while having the finer input control of the gear drive.. Tuning it will also reduce the gear noise some, but gears will always make noise; you are right on that for sure
After thinking about it when I saw you like my other comment, I bet someone like you who does drifting 99% of the time, belt driven would be preferred. The smoothness and slipping belt would probably even give you a larger margin for error, which would appear as though the wheel made you better (it actually just masks more mistakes than something like gear or direct drive where every degree of rotation of the wheel is sent to the PC/console; when the belt slips, some of that wheel rotation isn't actually reaching the computer) It now makes sense why thrustmaster is so big in the drift community (also TM puts a lot into modern marketing like yt sponsorships)
Started with a G29! Used it for a month then went CSL DD at Christmas. T300 would have probably been enough to keep me happy. But the G29 was honestly very good
I'm so glad to see you made a spelling error,... "whells",... I do that all the f'n time when trying to type "wheels" for some reason lol. Great video, thanks!!!
Alright I'm convinced, I just bought the t300... let's see how this goes. Thank you sooo much for your videos, You inspire me to learn how to drift everyday. I'm kinda broke so I might have to wait to get the stick shift but fck it, I'm happy I even got the wheel in the first place. Thanks again for the recommendation
I have toasted 4 T300 in 5 years with a big wheel mounted on, this servo base can’t handle torque and long sessions. I recently switch to a DDPro with inverted pedal v3, hand break and shifter from Fanatec and it’s night and day. The accuracy of the controls and the ffb are so nice and I know I can put a big wheel without destroying anything. The T300 compare to Logitech G29 is a really nice product for sure, but you must use the OEM wheel and force the inside fans ON
If you're just getting into the sim racing, don't forget to checkout the used market. You can get some crazy deals on wheel etc that have barely been used.
I ordered the g29 with shifter, it is a great upgrade from my thrustmaster ferrari 458 Italia which cost 140$ in my country and was a steal for what I got, I know all the disadvantages of g29 but it is still worth it for me
I got a G29 5 days ago. Already done some mods to the G29 Shifter. Just 3D printed stuff... New longer shifter knob, and the H pattern shifter mod V2 remix. The thrustmaster setup was just too expensive. I'll start here and see where it takes me
I actually had my eye on one of the TMX-sets for... probably years now. So long, in fact, that I didn't even realize a newer kind of follow-up was put out by Thrustmaster, being the T248. - I had almost jumped on a TMX-set on sale, but only the one with the 2-pedal board was still available, cause it seems they had discontinued the TMX-set with the 3-pedal board for some reason. - Anyway, I read a lot of negative stuff about the 2-pedal board, so I was very hesitant to settle for that, even though I was coming from NO wheel and pedals for many years. - I did notice a separate deal on a 3-pedal board, the one with the metal plate, but that would put me up with the 2-pedal board (either having to sell it or store it) and it would cost me about as much as... you guessed it, the whole T248-set (albeit with the non-metal pedal-base) also at a discount. - So that was my chance and that's what I went with. Even though I found it kind of ugly at first (it grew on me quickly), it's a very good middle-of-the-road (heh) option to go with. Mind you, at a discount, so it's not 400 Dollars or whatever. It was more like 350 USD for me I believe. - Pretty good deal. I've been having fun with it and it's pretty versatile at that. Who knows, I might get something more advanced down the line, but this, again, is a good balance that isn't a cheapo toy (even though enthusiasts like to call anything that isn't a DD a toy, as if they're not literally playing with toys hooked up to videogames anyway), but also not a costly machine that's just overkill to play games/sims with. - I get it, you want something to be as "realistic" and an as great an experience as possible, I really get it. But priorities are different for everyone. - I love racing, but at the same time, it's also just one of many genres of videogames I like. It's not about "building a simulator" to me. I have my ergo-chair that I can kind of set up as a racing-chair, I have a nice 21:9 monitor anyway, this wheel and pedal are pretty "lifelike", and I can set up everything from "office setup" to "racing setup" in about 5 steps within a minute. - I'm pretty happy with that. - As a great known liar once said: "It - just - works!"
I don’t have a handbrake, but I don’t need one. All I really play is forza, and I tune all my drift builds myself so I can just use the normal brake pedal. Btw, if you want to slide like a maniac just using the brake pedal, turn up your brake pressure and put the brake force to the front wheels fully. Max positive camber to, it’s different for every car but max is always best for drifting on forza. I honestly haven’t used a wheel yet, but I drift around on forza with my controller sometimes. Oh and run simulation steering for easier drifting. Watch your steering angle to, if you don’t transition or maintain the drift you’ll spin out.
My first whell was a Superdrive SV250 wheel with pedals that was $60 off amazon. It's more of a starter wheel but amazon delivered 4 instead of 1. Currently I'm saving up for a bigger setup that costsabout $200 off Facebook Marketplace. I like setups with full wheel rotation, gear shifting, and pedals. My current Superdrive wheel only has 180 degrees of rotation. I play a lot of American Truck Simulator, so driving a big ass semi with a wheel that cna only go 180 degrees is pretty difficult. Plus there aren't many buttons for extra things like turn signals, shifting up and down honking, etc. Those kinds of things. That's why I only use my keyboard and mouse.
Question of the day: *What do YOU think is the best setup for a complete beginner?*

Don't have one

g920 beacuse 90 degrees wheels are weird af
You also don't need to buy the whole setup at once. You can just buy the wheel first, then get a shifter later on, then a handbrake, etc. I didn't have a shifter and a handbrake for a long time and the only issue really was that you can't really shift while drifting (unless your wheel has the paddles on the base instead of the wheel). Not having a handbrake in the beginning even forces you to learn drifting without having to rely on it for everything. So even if your budged is around 400, I would still recommend the T300 and then keep saving up for the rest.
Good point
My cat is goose
i've been drifting for about 3 years now and i'm too cheamp to buy a handbeake yet, i've use the paddle of the g920 lol
You can also assign the handbrake to like spacebar on the keyboard or something easy to press.
what's bad about having paddles on wheel?

@@dacasman i find it pretty decent for drifting
@@j13nkz They work fine for drifting in the sim but they don't translate to drifting in real life like a direct drive wheel does. With a direct drive, even a budget one like the moza R5, the wheel is basically doing EXACTLY what the car in the sim wants it to do. which is what it would also do in real life.
With the logitech wheels its an approximation of what the steering wheel would actually do. It can only spin so fast, so the car in the sim is counter steering a lot slower than real life.

Bro i loved growing up watching your videos and they just keep getting better and better!
I appreciate that!
The main problem is reliability, in a poll half of the partecipants complained having problems with T300RS. The pedals too are cheap in t300rs compared to g29 ones and i think they're a priority for racing compared to the wheel.
buy only wheel and take idk if you have big money
go for fanatec pedals idk i hear this pedals are sooo fkcing good
Priority for racing, yes, but a better wheel is the priority for drifting
i had that same hesitation when i bought it, seems that the issue was firmware and since they fixed it, the majority of new purchases have zero issues. I love my t300. and the T-lcm pedals are really good compared to the logitechs
G29 peddles have done me well i had to take them a apart to take a rubber stop out the break peddle though if you dont do that breaking is really unresponsive and difficult.
The thrustmaster two-pedal setup is pretty shitty however the T3PA pedals are really good for what they are, so always get the three pedal one.
As someone wanting to buy a wheel myself I have found this extremely helpful.
Thanks Goose
Glad to help!
If you'd like something cheaper, I recommend t248. It's a great wheel at a similar price to g29
I bought a t300rs second hand without testing and I’ve had it for a while now and it’s perfectly fine
With 150 you gonna have to upgrade pedals anyway so I won't suggest that
I have that GT Lite cockpit and it's a great product for the money.
I got the TMX (xbox version of t-150) and while I could drift with it I really had to work for it (like physically), then I got a t300 and it was a world of difference. now drifting can be pretty much effortless cuz the wheel has enough power/speed to countersteer on it's own. t150 is just too slow/weak IMO, t300 is like the bare minimum i'd suggest. for just racing I guess it's fine but once you feel the way smoother t300 you'd regret not getting that instead (I know I did)
The 150 is also gear driven so I wouldn‘t recommend
@@Blackguard5000 It’s a hybrid system with gears and belt's, much quieter that just gears.

I directly compared the T300 and a Fanatec DD pro in some top titles and the difference is massive. The T300 is a decent wheel compared to some low end G2*, but if you can spend the extra money, I think it's worth it.
Would you say one can still be competitive with a T300 and beat DD users or is it pretty much pay to win?
@@thrasherdave1428 I believe you can be competitive with a T300. It's the more direct feel of fine nuances that get lost in the T300 compared to a direct drive. A pro wheel doesn't make you a pro driver. I'm far from it, but I like the better immersion.
@@thrasherdave1428 Spend your money on a loadcell pedal if winning or in other words speed is your priority. A dd wheel improves you experience a lot compare to belt or gear, but wouldn't really improve your speed.
I know this is gonna sound dirty, but the fact you choke the goose when addressing the haters, is one of the reasons im subbed. 🤣
Awesome video! Do note that theTH8A can be set as handbrake by adjusting the driver, you will then just use the pedals for shifting - Could be a great workaround when on budget!
I'm too much of a blue collar American I need my h pattern shifter, I've never even drove a real car with paddles but plenty of h pattern.
I disagree on "good FFB", compared to T300 the difference is MASSIVE. The noises and shaking was horrible, I bought it brand new.
@@Goosiest tbh if you've never tried a belt engine it's absolutely awesome. i went to an arcade once where they had like 20 setups with g29's, and because that was the first time i tried a racing wheel it felt great. that made me want a setup of my own so i bought a t150, thinking it was less good because its cheaper but it was much better after all. the only downside of the t150 is that it only has 2 padels
the fuck? i dont get that with mine at all. thin yall are to use to no noise at all. baby ears.@@Goosiest
ive used g25 for a while and it was pretty decent, that i got it used for 20 bucks. it actually helped me get better on irl drifting too for such a setup
mmmm 20 bucks? either you are smart or lying lol.
@@pipedgolf4634 bro, people can get whole cars for a can of beer. I don't see a problem lol
For me, it's perfect for now, but I see that in the future I will probably swap it for a T300.
can i ask prices?
i got a tmx pro for 200
it was the cheapest 3 pedal wheel i could find and anyone who has logitech wheels say they like mine more
@@pipedgolf4634 I'll reply here, I know that here where I live, a new g29 is around 300€ not including the shifter.
(Btw I tried LUT file, wheelcheck, adjusting FFB%, FFBClip, all sort of things)
The T300 arrives tomorrow, can't wait.
@thebansheesheriff9029 is the t300 better then the g920?

I also curently have no E-brake but i am planning on having a E-bay handbrake soon enough.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My first setup: Logitech DFGT strapped to a pull-up bar clamped to the arms on my chair. . mapped clutch and handbrake to buttons on the wheel. It worked great for GT5 back in the day. The wheel itself lasted something like 9 years before it stopped functioning.
I've had 2 of those. I literally was still using it until the Thrustmaster T248 came out.
I got the wheel this week
I did get Logitech DFGT as my first wheel setup I buy the used one for $90. Previous owner used it for like 3-4 years and I do have it almost 3 years now. It still works great for those who want a cheap wheel and on the budget.
same, using my DFGT since 10 years now, still works great
I found a DFGT at a thrift store for $20 a few years back, couldn't be happier! Most the games I have are ancient so even if I was willing to spend the money on a newer wheel, it likely wouldn't be compatible.
Goosiest I want to say thank you for everything me and my gran always used to watch you ❤ unfortunately she has passed a few days ago 🕊
I have G27 and bought used, really happy with it.
bought it for 135 with a pvc pipe setup and car seat
now also have the Ebay handbrake and really works fine
PVC frame absolutely based.
i'd love to craft my own sim rig out of PVC
@It's Dokko yeah, it really is nice with everything stuck on it and on budget
This was surprisingly a very informative video, I thought it would just be a funny video but it helped me decide to get the t300 over the g29, ESPECIALLY because I'd be playing at night while my younger sibling sleeps so I have to be quiet, the g29 is definitely not that.
I found a g920 Logitech wheel with shifter and pedals basically brand new some kid didn’t want as his pic couldn’t run any games and said the FFB didn’t work, haggled him down to £40 for the whole set changed the power cable for £12 and got the whole setup working with FFB for £52 and it’s amazing. Learning to drift on it is crazy fun just need a handbrake
yoo im getting a g920 also
I got the g29 over the summer just to drive in gta 5 and it’s been exactly what I was looking for. if anyone’s debating whether they should spend the extra money, I’ve been perfectly happy with my g29 for casual use. I’d say if you’re looking for the most realistic simulation then the extra money for the thrustmaster would definitely be worth it though
@@az3611 you need to mod the game of course. GTA V doesn't support wheels. The manual transmission mod does the job.
@Reulorics yes
Bro. NGL. This is the goosiest video of all of youtube :)
Cheers!
this aged well😂

Me watching knowing i have 0 dollars in my bank account

Does the g920 shake a lot like the g29?

Thank you for this informative video, i first thought of getting the g29 but now im going to get the t300. Thanks!
Saw this right after getting a G29 but before opening it. I'm a little scared now
I do have a Thrustmaster T150 and I can say this is good for budget. Although I could save more for T300.
And it has a sequential shifter on the wheel, also, it has a h-shifter included with the wheel, and, it has three pedals.
i love how ur starting setup is the same as my current set up
You can adjust the g923's force feedback or turn it off and adjust it in-game.... if you just plug it in and launch some game of course I won't be optimized..
The thrustmaster is smoother because belts slip, that isn't better necessarily. You get finer input detail with gear and direct drive (gear is very similar to direct drive, at least more so than it is similar to belt drive)
If you tune the g923's force feedback you can get the same smoothness while having the finer input control of the gear drive..
Tuning it will also reduce the gear noise some, but gears will always make noise; you are right on that for sure
After thinking about it when I saw you like my other comment, I bet someone like you who does drifting 99% of the time, belt driven would be preferred.
The smoothness and slipping belt would probably even give you a larger margin for error, which would appear as though the wheel made you better (it actually just masks more mistakes than something like gear or direct drive where every degree of rotation of the wheel is sent to the PC/console; when the belt slips, some of that wheel rotation isn't actually reaching the computer)
It now makes sense why thrustmaster is so big in the drift community (also TM puts a lot into modern marketing like yt sponsorships)
I got a g29 and shifter used for $180 five months ago. It still works perfectly today. Used is the way to go
My g920 is only loud when it’s calibrating that’s about it. When racing it sometimes makes a squeak noise that’s pretty slight
guys if yall have super strict parents buy the g29 its good with small budge but if you have BIG Budget ..... gossy has somthing to say 😂😂😂

Fair enough, it just ruined other wheels for me after using DD tho
7:56 The pxn v3 has a table clamp to secure the wheel in place so you are not gonna yeet the wheel
I love how the camera angle changes for each sentence
Thank you! Finally a video for a noob like me! T300 it is with welfare add ons! Seriously best wheel advice I’ve heard thus far.
Love that this dude now has a dd wheel 😂
I just realised I have the exact same toy wheel You mentioned and it just feels hillarious to drive on it, not even mentioning drifting etc
