As for the clutch feel, I recommend switching out the OEM clutch spring for the mtec clutch spring, it won't kick back as strong anymore makes it a lot more consistent through the gears.

I absolutely love the angle of the driving around town shots, accompanied by a pretty useful description of the most important aspects of daily driving a manual (clutch weight, shift smoothness, steering feel, etc). 99% of driving is exactly that even for sports cars so it's very refreshing to see a more normal car review this way

I’ve had this car for over a month and I feel like I’m no where near driving it proficiently. I haven’t driven manual for 2 years before getting this car and never really learned how to drive manual smoothly before that. I’m definitely seeing some improvement tho and the car is a blast to drive, even with keeping it under 4K for the break in period. Im at 850 miles so I’ll be taking the gloves off very soon 😈

Hi,Kirk. Thanks for uploading the new video. The scenery in Florida is amazing. The blue body is perfect for Florida. For daily use, the AT version GR86/BRZ with EyeSight would be useful. It will reduce the stress you feel especially in highway traffic.

You know. The auto was pretty decent when I drove it in NY! This isn't anywhere close to my favorite manual setup. The manual transmissions in the MX-5, Elantra N, Si, Civic HB, Integra, WRX are all better for different reasons (just my opinion). I'd put this with the GLI in terms of 6MT enjoyment.

I would say that is over, or near, triple digits in interactions, my wife and kid always laugh when it happens and the wife rolls her eyes and smiles. Its that common that we are used to it lol. As for scale 1-10 fun to drive (lets presume NOT in stop and go traffic for sake of discussion!) Its a solid 8.5. Its one of the most fun cars I have ever driven. The Miata is as fun and the GR Corolla is as fun as the 86 (in some ways more, in other ways less).
As for Gas, its *passable* - I average 22 MPG but that is due to regularly aggressively driving and shifting local driving. When I take it to highway my best was right at 25 mpg on a longer trip. Its decent, but not great. The Civic SI (as a pertinent example) gets far better MPG by an order of magnitude and is still fun to drive. (6 out of 10 for the Civic SI. Very fun, but not as fun as a *real* RWD Sports Car).

The auto in SPORT MODE is a lot of fun without the manual shifting. It responds to how hard you hammer the throttle and apply some braking power as you ease it off. I found follow cars through corners they were using their brakes where I wasn't (I am not sure this is really a feature but is seems like it was engine braking every time I lightened up on the accelerator. ) Plus you have the paddles to play with too. Its a nice setup. The paddles are much better than playing with the stick sifter as when using paddles it will not let you over rev, it will after a short delay make the right shift, that was my experience. The floor stick will just leave you in the wrong gear.

The 2022 Mazda MX 5 cheapest model the Sport starts at around $27,000 & is as much fun as their more expensive models. The Toyota GR86 & & the Subaru models are good cars & have more room but they are far from the reliability of the Mazda that has been for more than 30 years & more reliable than many sports 5 times the price. The MAZDA 6 speed is one of the best in any sports car at any price. The Mazda only weighs about 2300 Lbs, Almost the same as the first 1990s model & gets much better gas mileage than their competition. The GR86 & the Subaru in 3 years will have lost thousands of dollars in value while the Mazda MX5 will only hold its value & go up in value. Just check the prices of their 3-year-old models.

@@ekgcanadianenthusiast9961 It is a big deal. Subaru can't make an engine that keeps running to save their life, and Toyota was foolish enough to think that had changed. Toyota needs to make their own engine, and drop Subaru's, or this car will NEVER be reliable. If you use this car at a track day or similar event, your warranty is void, even if the engine was destroyed by the RTV problem. I know in Europe the warranty covers track days and similar events, not sure about what the warranty policy is in Canada. Regardless, something with a Toyota badge on it should never suffer from abrupt catastrophic engine failure, it will cause great amounts of damage to Toyota's reputation for rock solid reliability. This is the 2nd car unworthy of the Toyota badge that it wears, the first being the "Supra" with a BMW engine.

If you are the targeted audience for this car, enjoy it. I don't want to come off as stereotypical, but I think cars like this that appeal to us Gen Y'ers and Gen Z'ers are those who plan on staying single and don't plan on having a significant other or kids in their life. They're going to be someone who is only about the autocross and racetrack and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's a lifestyle and it's a hobby. Why shouldn't they?
I'm not bashing anyone nor am I bashing the car for being what it is. There are much better choices for me, my lifestyle, and my needs and it's not even a price thing or horsepower thing. Practicality; 4-doors, a usable trunk, and spacious interior cabin is more directed for me.
