My complaints list after 3,000 miles is pretty short. I wish the passenger seat had height adjustment for shorter people. I love the gearing for enthusiastic driving, but it pulls a lot of rpm at 80. For sound I find it is better when plugged into my phone instead of using Bluetooth.
Cool video. Im at 2 1/2 months now waiting for mine. I dont care about a sound system in an enthusiast car either but i also wouldnt daily mine when it arrives. Will be strictly for enthusiast driving days then back in the garage.
I've had the car (premium black) for a couple weeks. My experience is similar, except I am strictly using it as a daily driver, not on the level of this reviewer or others who plan to track this car. The piped in sound, I heard a lot about that beforehand, and I dont know if its already disabled for me but it is nowhere near the issue others were talking about. I'm shifting at the typical 3-3.5k rpm and don't notice it, and when hitting normal highway speeds I don't hear it as excessive. But again, could be because I'm not shifting in the higher rpm range like some others. And for that reason the sound has been fine for me, I was renting a car before this and in comparison the volume is way better, I can set it to half the max on highway speeds and its perfectly fine.
The first thing I did after getting my first gen was upgrading the sound system. Even with the complete catless setup, I get exceptional sound quality at speed. I also have a nice sound system at home with an external DAC, but I had to have it on the go as well. I would be more than happy to have you give it a listen and see what you think.
@@JohnnyBalazo I did a head unit, component speakers with crossover, 12 inch sub, an amp for the speakers and the sub, EQd and time aligned, and it sounds fantastic.
@@ivanzavala307 Ah yep, solid setup. I wonder if just a good amp and underseat sub is decent upgrade for not much money. I'll find out in the future haha
Hey, that phone holder that you are using looks like it is connecting you to apple car play and way more convenient than having a wire come out of the cup holder. What products are you using if you don't mind me asking?
@Jubbal & Cars I just put in my deposit to get into the wait list over at Mark Miller in SLC. I do live in Vegas so I'll be taking a flight there and driving it back home when the time comes. Thanks man for giving me the info about where to find the gr86 for msrp. I told them about you too and how I found them through your videos aha Btw how was the drive back home to Vegas from SLC ?
Not sure if you'll see this but can you expand a bit on the cabin noise on highways? I've never driven this gen or the first so I can't relate to the comparison, but I've driven in a 2018 Jeep Wrangler and find that to be fairly loud. Is the GR86 louder than a Jeep at high speeds? Am I better off with another car, if highway driving is a big factor?
Maybe I’m dumb, but I don’t get the argument for a “mature sports car” I can understand over styled with the old Type R. It’s still a sports car at the end of the day, it’s always gonna have some level of immaturity behind it. But I’m seeing the argument for mature cars being made more and more today and I don’t get it. Maybe cuz I’m 19, but the old car never seem immature to me. It was simply just a Nice Car.
How did you get this car msrp? I also live in Vegas and went down the Toyota dealership down Sahara but they’re marking up the prices wayyy too much. Any tips?
Can you elaborate on how the allocation works? Did you call the dealership, ask them to put you on a wait list for any/all GR86 they get, leave a refundable deposit via cc, and when they get one they call down the list to see who's interested?
i literally called the whole United States for all dealerships bc I wanted the 10th anniversary edition. Get on their list and they get allocations every week. I think Massachusetts still have some and dealers in New Mexico.
Buddy of mine recently got a red GR86 base and let me drive it. The clutch engagement is pretty damn low and it engages quickly, but its pretty easy to get used to.
@@jubbalandcars what’s your opinion on it? I personally like it because for fast shifts, it’s super direct. Other people hate it and can’t wait to put a new clutch in it
I plan to get a gr86 premium in a few years. Do those red temperature lights always flash/blink like that? I could see that being annoying at night time
Maybe it's like the chirping cricket noise the old FR-S models used to make. People complained about it all over the internet, but It was just a small percentage of really unlucky people.
It’s amazing how peoples idea of beauty is so different. He says this thing is beautiful or good looking yet all I see is an ugly rear end, black roof moldings still on a 2022 vehicle, interior that looks typical Toyota meaning they’re in no rush to update them because people will always buy them. The front angles are the only parts of it that look amazing.
If it's overblown, why won't the dealers give you a straight answer on warranty coverage. Subaru has a long history of terrible quality control and terrible engineering. I couldn't get a straight answer out of my local dealer.
@@risby1930 because dealers are still waiting on official response from Subaru/Toyota. They're probably reviewing a) whats the risk and cause b) what production cycle did it affect, c) whats the most efficient fix and only after all of that are they gonna tell dealers whats going on and send out recall letters to owners. For all we know its massively blown out of proportion and itll be like Toyota's "unintended acceleration" problem, which in the end was... some people got their "defective" floor mats stuck on the accelerator pedal.

Don't get rid of your 1st gen! Then swap in a FA24 or K24 when engine goes
I want to make room for something else, like an Emira
