While decidedly not the same game, the Super Mario Bros. games on the NES are similar enough in game mechanics and controls that all four of them can be played at once with the same input.
This second version of the quad-run utilizes the credits glitch found in the newest Super Mario Bros. 3 (tasvideos.org/2...) run. As such, the focus is now on finishing Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (tasvideos.org/1...) as fast as possible, allowing Super Mario Bros. 3 to entertain while waiting for the other three games to progress. The run also features an ending that may surprise you.

This movie has been played back and verified on console ( • TAS Block at SGDQ 2016... ) during SGDQ 2016.

This is similar to what arcades sounded like back in the day.
The main differences were: 1. Playchoice-10s could only play one of these at a time, and often were turned way down or even had their sound turned off; 2. Arcade patrons made a lot of noise; 3. Loud rock music often came out of nearby speakers (for some reason, many arcade operators thought it was like a disco and played lots of radio or MTV).

The arcade i went to didn't play any music. All you could hear were the noise of 50-60 different arcade machines and loud kids and teenagers.
Could someone explain to me how the wrong warping In world 4 level 2 works?
Anonymous Illuminati smb1 can only load one warp at a time, so if you get pushed far enough to the right to reach the pipe without having its warp loaded, you'll end up where the vine would send you.
Multiply that, I think.
The most insane thing about this is that they manage to execute the Arbitrary Code glitch in SMB3 while also providing inputs for the other three games.
don't forget that they also got fast 4-2 and they completed one of the card minigames in smb3!

This is so awesome, same input on all games and all were cleared at the same time. This Tool-Assisted Speedrun is a masterpiece. I wonder if a simultaneous completion could be any faster with same input.

tate the great Mario 3 is the shortest if you take raw time, but he used the ROM warp "glitch" and that requires frame-perfect input, which must be aligned with the other 3 games.

@@pikaboy70 do it then. it requires multiple pixel perfect koopa shells, and you have to time the koopa shells correctly. I believe youa re talking about the SMB1 wrong warps?
@@andrewzhang8512 SMB1 wrong warps use the screens position to take you to a different subarea. *SMB3* uses shell positions and already did it www.speedrun.com/smb3/run/mrkgwv4y

Now we just need to add Super Mario World onto this.
Some super mario all stars versions have all those games + super mario world.
But if you played the same input, it will always do the same thing and so play the same game.
The solution is to use different roms of the same game (japanase, vs european vs EUA....) the no intro set have 6 official versions of the game, more than enought to do it.

Oh, were these constructed so that not only does the string of inputs complete all four games, but they all have the same timing in the end too? It looks like they all end at roughly the same time but I'm not familiar with timing on some of these.
I suppose that's why there's only one time listed (8:49.78) rather than four. That is crazy.

All these noises remind me of my Junior Band before class starts and we all just took out our in the instruments and just started playing all of them at once and if you walked in before class started. You'd hear something like all this audio mushed together.
I love how Mario 1 and Mario lost levels are waiting for Smb2 to catch up and super Mario 3 is waiting for the other games to catch up

Suddenly at around 5:00 you look at the top left screen and then things start to make more sense... Assuming lag for play inputs it makes sense that they'd jump at different times... and you'd have to wait till the other 3 screens needed no inputs to refocus the first onto world 8 pipe...
Now here's the real question... Which is faster? Beating all 4 games individually in a row, or doing all 4 simultaneously like this? Because it's clear you lose some time that you wouldn't lose on original versions of the game

Tas are weird, and vines are weirder. Sadly, I don't have the exact explanation, but their was probably a series of specific button combos that made the game think that the vine he was dismounting was at a different x position

Of course someone would be mad enough to TAS the 4 classics with simultaneous inputs, and get ACE in SMB3 and fast 4-2 in SMB1, while beating all 4 games at nearly the same time.

I always hated these multi game videos because...I'm only mortal and I can't feel for what is going on. Like watching a x20 rubix cube being solved at TAS time without knowing what strat is being used. I mean, how does a human ROUTE this in the first place?! And I think if you're not told beforehand that this is all 4 games using the same input, most people wouldn't realize. I want to enjoy this and I KNOW it's impressive, I just can't FEEL impressed cuz what's happening is too complex as hell for me.
So if there's a way to address the viewer with...commentary, or at least show inputs being pressed, maybe that'll be better. Oh, and the audio. Dunno what to do about that, either. I mean you can't just GDQ it and have audio from only one screen at a time. No idea, but the audio is definitely too overcrowded.
I know this was done on SDGQ 2016 (haven't seen it, not on TH-cam yet), but I daresay they explained it at the time there; you could pop on over to Twitch and watch that?

Adrian Wood: the SMB3 100% TAS on TH-cam has annotations that are mostly about the TAS itself, but also have some jokes within… I would have never known it takes exactly 4.27 seconds to lose your P meter after taking flight…

Not exactly - The one at SGDQ all finished the final boss fight at the same time, this one doesn't.
I was quite perturbed when I saw this was uploaded 4 hours before the 'big reveal' during the TAS block, though.

+Steven Considering that this TAS is actually from 2014. There's no reason on being upset. There's really no big reveal to this TAS. Especially the age of this TAS being 2 years old.

You should realize there's a difference between TASVideos at AGDQ and SGDQ.
For SGDQ we show the more basic side of TASing, and to put main focus on the audience in mind and showing them what a TAS is about, whilst having less gimmicks than AGDQ.
Fair enough. This was the first SGDQ I've seen, so I'll put this one down to my own ignorance.
