  • "Bist du bei mir, geh ich mit Freuden" (If you are with me, I go with joy) has been attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach with its own BWV 508, but it originates from the composer Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel and his opera Diomedes. The opera was first staged on 16 November 1718 but today it is mostly known in a version for voice and continuo found as #25 in the 1725 Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach. It is played on my Avanti III by Noorlander on the sample set of Noordbroek by Sonus Paradisi.
This organ transcription is made by Dick Koomans and can be found on IMSLP through this link: imslp.org/wiki/Special:Imagef...

This is such a beautiful piece by Bach, and I had the great honour that Baron George Minne the late organist of St. Partricks Cathedral in Armagh (Northern Ireland) played this for me every time we met. Thank you for this wonderful version Philip !

Dear Burberry. Thank you so much for your kind words. What a great story and also a kind organist at that cathedral. It is a great piece and it also has a tender sound that I find very pleasing.

This is very different from the transcriptions I have previously heard/played, but it's really lovely - and, of course, it's played beautifully as always. Thanks for recording it - and thanks also for the background as to the origin of the piece. Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas!

Beautiful. The Noorbeck is now my new favorite Netherland Baroque Organ. I like the chiff it makes for the principal stops.

Hi Storee. I agree! It has some beautiful solo stops and has a broad and beautiful pleno sound as well. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones!
