J.S.Bach - TRIO SONATA #3 in D minor (BWV 527)
My quest on recording all of Bach's Trio Sonatas for TH-cam is half-way there!!
In this video you can find the entire Trio Sonata in D minor (BWV 527) by J.S.Bach played on my Hauptwerk Organ. Noordbroek, sampled by Sonus Paradisi, is the sample set which often is the one I choose for baroque organ music because it sounds really great and has a real immersive color to it. To the ears of seventeenth and eighteenth-century musicologists the key of D minor represented melancholy, devotion, solemnity and seriousness. The sonata in D minor is a bit different than the other trio sonatas by Bach in that it begins with an andante movement and not a fast vivace. What is also a bit peculiar is that Bach seems to add a lot of different rhythmic figurations to the mix which gives the first movement quite a diverse musical outlook. The second movement is again slow but now in major and with a much more gracious and dance like feel to it. The third movement is just.....a rollercoaster. It is relentless in its wild figurations. It swirls and twists and is defintely one of the really technically difficult movements to master!

Nice performance, but do you think Bach could possibly have meant anything by 'sinistra' other than 'play this with left hand'? When the chorale is then marked 'dextra' ..
It is a good question. I have always though this chorale prelude as quite interesting. The title says that the soul does magnify the Lord but it sounds nothing like a happy setting. I have always thought it to depict Mary as being quite overwhelmed and nervous of her destiny.
@@philipaggesen So having listened to the cantata this is taken from, the text of the movement is not 'Meine Seele' but rather 'Er gedenket der Barmherzigkeit' ('He remembering His mercy'). This probably better explains the 'Affect' of the movement.

Wonderful! So nice to here Lemmens engaging in something other than what my former organ teacher called “organ slither,” which refers to his alarming overuse of legatissimo.
Haha, great story!! Pretty strange he chose legatissimo when (at least) my score says it should be played with space between the notes.
That’s what my organ teacher said also!

It's one of my favourite pieces. Your interpretation is very beautiful. Often this piece is played too fast.
