I totally get you, because those heel spurs really are ugly. I understand why they're there, to support his hefty backpack because Sandstorm is ofc a big, chunky triple-changer, so I'm not too miffed personally. However, a thought I've had is, since there's those hinge joints connecting the heel to the rest of the foot, could it be possible to fold the heels up against the back of the foot for a cleaner (albeit possibly less stable) option for display?
I love it when they chase the boxart toy look. You get more details than the animation look and better colours. The animation helps with the frame and more slender poseability. When you mix them as well as this Sandstorm you get a robot that looks like it could actually function in the real world and still has that amazing alien robot styling.
Astrotrain and Blitzwing had extra stuff to beef them up to Leader-class. Plus their engineering was more complex than Springer since their vehicles are so different from each other. Springer is one of those whose triple change isn’t too far different.
Unrelated, but I need advice. Masterpiece is cost prohibitive for me. Is there a smaller scale/line of transformable Transformers that is both aesthetically like MP/G1 cartoon & more affordable? If so, how do their prices compare to 3P's that scale with authentic MP?
After seeing this review I liked this figure more than I expected! Triple Changers are awesome and this is one of the best looking ones. OH and I really love how now you added sound effects, that adds a nice touch to the video 😸

Siege Shockwave, Astrotrain, Ultra Magnus, etc. were basically Voyagers with extra stuff. (Siege/Kingdom Magnus in particular was all about doing the G1 toy's armor up gimmick, so they basically padded it out by making it a forced linewide gimmick, since previous Leader classes had their own gimmicks - PotP's "Evolution", TR's Base Modes) Earthrise got a little better (hello Doubledealer) but you still had it goin' on (Optimus with that crap trailer that refuses to go away), Kingdom REALLY leaned into it (G1 Galvatron, BW Megatron, etc.), and here we are now. While the classes have been about parts count and such instead of pure size since Siege, it IS hard to take seriously when you're now applying that methodology of Leaders (Voyagers with Extra Stuff) to Voyagers (Deluxes with Extra Stuff)... Titans Return is where these *compromised* Triple Changers started really popping up like weeds. (TR Leader class peeps with their half-assed base modes, Siege Astrotrain's half-assed space shuttle, Springer's lousy transformation ruining the path to his alt modes and back, both of Legacy Blitzwing's alt modes, etc.) BUT, lookin' back, Octane's ALWAYS been compromised (I think that's just his schtick, his design doesn't make for a good tanker truck OR jumbo jet), TR Broadside was a forced Headmaster, way too small, AND a fatally compromised jet mode due to being a heavy retool of TR Alpha Trion, etc. Even TR Fortress Maximus wasn't safe, since his city mode is so hopelessly half-assed.
Great video, as always.😉 I would like to know though, if you had to choose between this or the Thrilling Thirty Sandstorm, which would you pick and recommend others pick?
We got my boys springer and astrotrain in Seige Now we got sandstorm and blitzwing in Legacy Hopefully we get broadside and octane in the near future to complete the original g1 triple changers
The Springer in my collection is from Thrilling 30. And let's all face it: Thrilling 30 Springer is one of the best Transformers figures that Hasbro has ever made.
A note about the waist: it actually slides forward in robot mode to open up his swivel. Easy to forget about, since both of his alternate modes require it to be pushed back
So to make a clarification on something in the video, this figure has more waist swivel than this review shows, because there's a slider joint on the waist swivel that slides up and gives more range, and as far as I can tell doesn't show up in any of the instructions. Which is weird since I think it's also used for the dune buggy transformation. Not a full 360 but enough to see The chest is just kind of like that though
I have to admit, I wasn't a fan, but now I'm coming around. The dune buggy mode is actually a good scale. If you look at full-size extreme dune buggies, they are huge. Especially with hound as his jeep mode is based on a small jeep.
I know everyone has moved on from Sandstorm but it is still hilarious that every transformation I see in to buggy compresses the legs at the same time. It is 1000% easier to compress one at a time and then tab together.
Wow it's looks fantastic, best mainline triple change, imagine him fighting with astrotrain🔥, I think had an enjoyable transformation, unfortunately the accessories department is not good, but the helicopter, car and robot mode are epic, sandstorm is my favorite triple changer, btw I like your videos 👍🏻✌🏻
Triple Changers have always been a challenge when it comes to scaling. The dune buggy should be smaller, and the helicopter should be larger. The figure does look amazing though. The biggest obstacle is yet to come.....Broadside. That figure will always require a great deal of dedication to the concept of 'suspension of disbelief'. Also, where they heck is our Octane?
The helicopter needs to be masterpiece scale to match up with Hound's alt mode. The Willys Jeep is 3.35 m long. And the Sea King helicopter is 16.69 m long. For some more perspective, Hound seats 4 people and Sandstorm can seat 4 crew + 26 troops (or 15 stretchers) (or 12 VIP passengers). The Hound figure is actually a bit oversized and should be closer to SS Off-Road Bumblebee or smaller. Meanwhile, Sandstorm is very undersized, but pretty close in scale to Earthrise Starscream which is also very undersized.
This guy looks great! I'm gonna have to find springer somewhere too, and I wish hasbro reissued Astrotrain. Also blitzwing for me sacrifices form for pure fun factor and I love him, definitely one of my favourite figures.
I think we all are very aware of why the FIRST release of sandstorm is a toy model amalgam becauseeee they will release about 5 versions of this mold one being the one everyone wants usually the third version of the mold
Accuracy fans always forget there’s people who like idk actually wanna see something new. They’ll buy kingdom galvy and first run sandstorm because he’s nOT slavishly accurate (I’m talking about me lmfao)

It's the inconsistency that gets me. Motormaster showed up at Target in my area just a couple of weeks ago. Grabbed one the moment I saw it. Was 3 left on the shelf and by the time I finished my shopping, they were gone. Whereas we've had Legacy United figures overstocked for months now.

The Triple Changers are always going to be more expensive due to them needing to have significantly more moving parts. That is more space on the sprue, which likely means they have more sprues to be molded. I am willing to bet the sprue count decides the scale of the release.

Sandstorm is sick! Perfect! Perfect Coptermode. Perfect botmode. Perfect colors. Heel spurs are not too long. Cool rope-cage accessory. Overall, perfect! Wanna grab him (hopefully) soon! A little weird that he has a gun considering hes a pacifist, but its cool. Its probably _only_ for defense. Interesting choice using the (I think) toy accurate head instead of the toon one, but cool.
When I looked up sand storm it suggests that the smaller blaster is actually a arm mounted cutting torch not a gun. And his bigger gun, the way it's described sounds almost like a cybertronian flame thrower. Of course probably not flames but spraying super hot energon.
A great looking figure, but it would have been nice if Hasbro included a toon accurate head. I don't think it would have been too much to ask for. I guess we will eventually get this reissued in the Studio Series line with just that.

I think that they should only put g1 figures in ss86 right now, because I want to build my 86 collection, but I want them all to be from the same line, not collect some from legacy and some from ss
I think they’re slowing leaning more into that, there hasn’t really been too many G1 universe characters released of late. But, not all the G1 characters appeared in the 86 movie so I can see why some are releasing as Legacy figures

I honestly am impressed with his vehicle modes, the robot mode is a very different and cool design and those vehicle modes clean up SUPER good

Judging by what the marketing team said about this guy, I think it’s likely we will see that toon accurate head at some point!🤩
When I adjust the leg sliders individually, it’s a lot easier. Not sure if that helps.

Sandstorm is sick! Perfect! Perfect Coptermode. Perfect botmode. Perfect colors. Heel spurs are not too long. Cool rope-cage accessory. Overall, perfect! Wanna grab him (hopefully) soon!
A little weird that he has a gun considering hes a pacifist, but its cool. Its probably _only_ for defense. Interesting choice using the (I think) toy accurate head instead of the toon one, but cool.
But people know Sandstorm best as a member of the Wreckers, so there has to be a reason for him to wield a gun other than to defend himself.

When I looked up sand storm it suggests that the smaller blaster is actually a arm mounted cutting torch not a gun. And his bigger gun, the way it's described sounds almost like a cybertronian flame thrower. Of course probably not flames but spraying super hot energon.
A great looking figure, but it would have been nice if Hasbro included a toon accurate head. I don't think it would have been too much to ask for. I guess we will eventually get this reissued in the Studio Series line with just that.

I appreciate the articulation segments you do in reviews and the cool poses/dioramas you put the action figures into. I liked the additional sound effects you added in here (tyre screeches, helicopter sounds). I got the sense that you enjoy making these videos.
I think that they should only put g1 figures in ss86 right now, because I want to build my 86 collection, but I want them all to be from the same line, not collect some from legacy and some from ss
I think they’re slowing leaning more into that, there hasn’t really been too many G1 universe characters released of late. But, not all the G1 characters appeared in the 86 movie so I can see why some are releasing as Legacy figures
