I had a similar envy. I always brought a Transformer to Kindergarten show-and-tell (this was in 1990, btw). One of my classmates had Grapple. I was so jealous!
@marleyhenry5616 When I was growing up, one of my favorite issues of the Marvel comics was #14, where 5 Autobots were awakened on Earth. They were Grapple, Smokescreen, Tracks, Skids, and Hoist. Bumblebee took them on a tour. I only had Bumblebee as a kid, but as an adult, I've just completed the team in Masterpiece form!

Sandstorm and Octane had the potential for a fun odd couple buddy comedy flick. But it would have to just be Ishtar with robots, because that's what they deserve. "These bots are pawns."
I think it was a shame we never saw Sandstorm or Octane together again in G1 cartoon after Starscream's Ghost. Really feels like they were setting up a plot line there that ended up on the cutting room floor.

It was supposed to be Shockwave that teamed up with the autobots against the quintessons and got exiled. but it was changed to Blitzwing. then for reasons i don't remember they changed blitzwing's exile to Octanes (in the sandstorm episode). Originally they had intended him to possibly join the autobots. But they didn't align the rest of the scripts with it so octane was back with the decepticons. it's a confusing mess.

What was most shocking was the revelation that Sparkplug was supposed to appear in Season 3!! Yes, he would have been twenty years older, but he basically would have been battled-hardened like a G.I. Joe at that point.

You do NOT understand just how fast I clicked on this video when I saw you'd put it out. Sandstorm always was and still is one of my absolute favorite characters, and I just received my brand-new copy of his Legacy release a few days ago. Very good timing!

G1 Sandstorm was one of the funnest G1 toys to transform and was one of the very few original molds for the toyline that actually had real-world alt-modes. I've always loved his color scheme and I think this guy deserves more attention in Transformers fiction. I'm glad that we finally got a version that does the original character justice, but I would have preferred that his face more closely resembled the cartoon version.
Sandstorm's original toy face sort of makes sense, since in a sandstorm you'd want a mask to cover your mouth and eyes. AFAIK, Cybertronians don't breathe, but no one wants sand in their mouth.
I like to imagine that G2 Sandstorm and Sunstorm are rejected Rainmakers, since they're also Seekers with "Storm" in their name. I also just recently got G2 Cloudcover on clearance at Walmart. This Seeker apparently has NO fiction attched to him other than being one of Toxitron's lackeys. Cloudcover is also a Ramjet retool. (Pretty sure it's Ramjet.)

Seems like the cartoon Sandstorm and his toy's bio are also at odds. The same thing happened with Shockwave. The toy says he's plotting to overthrow Megatron, but he's super loyal in the cartoon. Although there is one line in the cartoon that kind of sounds like they might have been planning to go with the backstabber idea. The way he says "Have a safe journey, Megatron," sound like he might not actually mean that. (I haven't seen the episode in a while, so I might be misremembering the exact wording of the line.)
I think his bio still fits the character in the cartoon. His origin is from a pacifist planet, but he clearly enjoyed the adventure. By the time of Starscream's Ghost, his character was spot on. Showing off his abilities to Octane what not. It's just that we didn't get to see much of him afterwards. The reason Shockwave's personality was different is because they put him in the cartoon before Budiansky even wrote a bio for him and just stuck with that loyal servant demeanor. However, Flint Dille's original script for Five Faces of Darkness would have married the two conflicting personalities since it was Shockwave that betrayed Galvatron.
I like G1’s version of Sandstorm. Definitely one of my top 10 characters in that series. What they did to him in IDW is bizarre especially how he was portrayed in the original series. Please do a retrospective on Lady Chromia!
Perhaps much like Beast Wars Megatron used the original's name, the other factions were inspired by the legend of Scorpia/ Sandstorm & took the name to honor him. When younger, I always assumed the MW one was the 'upgraded form' of the G1 character.

At least in most cases of reuse to keep trademarks the name Sandstorm was used for a suitable character. Either a single mode dune buggy or helicopter, scorpions, ect. The tank and jet are edge cases, but with how many conflicts are fought in deserts it does work decently. To avoid confusion in my personal head canon I call the scorpion Sandtrap and the jet Sandstream.
My favorite version of Sandstorm and this should be absolutely no surprise to anybody is the original G1. Also I would like to see more Adventures of sandstorm.
Great video on Sandstorm. Personally, I refer the the G2 version as Desert Storm, just cause it is different and sounds a bit more fitting for a Decepticon.
It would be fun if, for fun, someone did a story (cartoon or comic), paring up the two different Transformers with the same name, the original G1 Autobot Sandstorm facing off against the G2 Decepticon Sandstorm, highlighting their shared names, perhaps even having the Predicon one also showing up as well to confuse things further.
As a kid i was like "man, Galvatron gonna show up and they're gonna claim they're pacifists, and..." And then Galvatron is like "cyclonus, am i crazy or did these little robot losers that don't even turn into a gun or anything just say they don't fight" "Pretty sure that's what's up, boss." "So theyre just saving us time? What manner of treachery is this? You tell that dude they're gonna fight or we're calling in the lawyers."
I never had the G1 Sandstorm toy, so I have no affinity for that particular toy. He was a cool and criminally underutilized character in the show (as were Octane & Broadside, the curse of not being main character status), but I just didn't care about the toy. The Thrilling 30 is my choice of Sandstorm figure representation - I'm sure others have mentioned it already, but apparently in some interview some years back, one of the IDW comic artists at the time confirmed that the original mold was Sandstorm and that Hasbruh used that and his "Last Stand of the Wreckers" Springer design to retool Sandstorm into Springer, all behind his back. Not the first time they did something like that. Legacy Sandstorm, I'm gonna have to get my hands on, as it seems real iffy to me.

I'm really happy with the Legacy United figure, really good. I've always felt bad for Sandstorm at the end of Fight or Flee, his whole planet blows up and Rodimus tells him 'No need to get mushy about it, Cybertron is a better place anyway, not so perfect'. That's the only dick move Rodimus ever did, that's so cold heartless stuff. Great retrospective as usual, and you snuck that 'Sandstorm' techno song in there, pretty cool.

As for the end of Fight or Flee, I get that his reaction was rather snarky, but I actually applaud his decision in light of the deleted scenes of the episode. Turning Paradron into a mobile fortress meant that if it wasn't destroyed, the Decepticons would be unstoppable. It's similar to the deleted scene in Key to Vector Sigma in which Shockwave fights Omega Supreme, explaining why he exploded on his return trip to Earth.

Besides, while it took until Japan's The★Headmasters, karma absosmurfinlutely brought herself to Rodimus Prime's head when one, shortly after having become Rodimus Prime again, he had to bear witness to Optimus Prime's demise again (SAME EPISODE!!), and soon after that, karma dropped another Rider Kick to Roddy's noggin when Galvatron was actually successful for once and destroyed Cybertron. BotCon Sandstorm is a rePAINT of Beast Wars Scorponok. A redeco is when you changed the stickers/labels on a Transformer. G2 Jazz (not the orange one) is a good example of a redeco. A repaint is when you change to color dye (or paint) in the plastic itself.
In "Starscream's Ghost" when Sandstorm in helicopter mode releasing dust onto the Combaticons, actually that's NOT dust! That's smoke from his helicopter engine prior of overheating!!!😆😅🤣😂
Technically yes according to Nick Roche. What seems to be the case is that he designed that Sandstorm first and modified it for Springer. Hasbro made and released Springer first based on Nick Roche's design and then made Sandstorm out of it
My proposal for sandstorm is that he was originally a paradronian who rebelled against his planet's pacifist ways and enlisted in the autobot army when the war broke out, eventually joining the wreckers and becoming a test subject for the new triple changer process, when paradron is destroyed by the decepticons he loses his will to fight and leaves the wreckers becoming disillusioned with war.
They should have kept that un the episode because when i watched it i was like man rodimus really blows up planet that you could have save my happy i finally found out
Knowing why Rodimus made that decision makes all the difference. Many harp on him for his reaction to its end, but by the time the Autobots arrived on Paradron, the Decepticons were already positioned to be unstoppable.

I find it hilarious that Broadside (the other Autobot triple changer) is such a loser. He gets seasick, and is afraid of heights (he transforms into a jet and an aircraft carrier).
The book Transform and Roll Out has a theory why Sandstorm is on the Ark (along with Twin Twist and Broadside) in the Marvel US comic The theory is they are the Ark recruiting Inferno for the Wreckers.

I'd say yes because my favorite version of Sandstorm is the G1 version (helicopter/dune buggy triple changer).
Sandstorm should have been a part of the Titans Return toyline. It would have been interesting to see what Titan Master he would have gotten.

I never had the G1 Sandstorm toy, so I have no affinity for that particular toy. He was a cool and criminally underutilized character in the show (as were Octane & Broadside, the curse of not being main character status), but I just didn't care about the toy.
The Thrilling 30 is my choice of Sandstorm figure representation - I'm sure others have mentioned it already, but apparently in some interview some years back, one of the IDW comic artists at the time confirmed that the original mold was Sandstorm and that Hasbruh used that and his "Last Stand of the Wreckers" Springer design to retool Sandstorm into Springer, all behind his back. Not the first time they did something like that.
Legacy Sandstorm, I'm gonna have to get my hands on, as it seems real iffy to me.

I'm really happy with the Legacy United figure, really good. I've always felt bad for Sandstorm at the end of Fight or Flee, his whole planet blows up and Rodimus tells him 'No need to get mushy about it, Cybertron is a better place anyway, not so perfect'. That's the only dick move Rodimus ever did, that's so cold heartless stuff.

As for the end of Fight or Flee, I get that his reaction was rather snarky, but I actually applaud his decision in light of the deleted scenes of the episode. Turning Paradron into a mobile fortress meant that if it wasn't destroyed, the Decepticons would be unstoppable. It's similar to the deleted scene in Key to Vector Sigma in which Shockwave fights Omega Supreme, explaining why he exploded on his return trip to Earth.

Besides, while it took until Japan's The★Headmasters, karma absosmurfinlutely brought herself to Rodimus Prime's head when one, shortly after having become Rodimus Prime again, he had to bear witness to Optimus Prime's demise again (SAME EPISODE!!), and soon after that, karma dropped another Rider Kick to Roddy's noggin when Galvatron was actually successful for once and destroyed Cybertron. Where's your "better" planet now, eh?? 😎😎😎

BotCon Sandstorm is a rePAINT of Beast Wars Scorponok. A redeco is when you changed the stickers/labels on a Transformer. G2 Jazz (not the orange one) is a good example of a redeco. A repaint is when you change to color dye (or paint) in the plastic itself.
Fun fact: Predacon Sandstorm was originally intended to be named Quicksand early in production.

When I was a kid, people in cartoons and other TV shows were always falling into quicksand. Now you hardly ever see this.

Technically yes according to Nick Roche. What seems to be the case is that he designed that Sandstorm first and modified it for Springer. Hasbro made and released Springer first based on Nick Roche's design and then made Sandstorm out of it

My proposal for sandstorm is that he was originally a paradronian who rebelled against his planet's pacifist ways and enlisted in the autobot army when the war broke out, eventually joining the wreckers and becoming a test subject for the new triple changer process, when paradron is destroyed by the decepticons he loses his will to fight and leaves the wreckers becoming disillusioned with war.
Yeah in America the only Autobot triple changer they really pushed the most was Springer.
They should have kept that un the episode because when i watched it i was like man rodimus really blows up planet that you could have save my happy i finally found out
Knowing why Rodimus made that decision makes all the difference. Many harp on him for his reaction to its end, but by the time the Autobots arrived on Paradron, the Decepticons were already positioned to be unstoppable.

I find it hilarious that Broadside (the other Autobot triple changer) is such a loser. He gets seasick, and is afraid of heights (he transforms into a jet and an aircraft carrier).

The book Transform and Roll Out has a theory why Sandstorm is on the Ark (along with Twin Twist and Broadside) in the Marvel US comic
The theory is they are the Ark recruiting Inferno for the Wreckers.
