- A Tool Assisted Speedrun (TAS) of a Professor Oak's Challenge in Pokemon Emerald. This is not a human playing. I was inspired by @AbsolBlogsPokemon 's Emerald Oak Challenge to start making this TAS (also @JohnstoneYT introduced me to the concept).
The mistakes panel got messed up. Here are the mistakes:
Forgot to battle the gym's trainers during step 1
Wasn't paying attention during grinding and got unnecessary crits
Didn't get all of the berries needed for feebas, so needed 2 pokeblock making sessions
Didn't set the correct starting time, so needed to wait a for shoal cave to be at low tide
Didn't have one of the linoones learn covet when leveling up
Didn't get a dig mon/tm and the flash hm
Didn't get the wailmer pail

It’s insane how much effort you put into this video. Congrats on finishing this painfully long TAS
The pickup exploit reminds me of the level-100-before-first-trainer-battle meme run. How long is it again, something like 8h?
Also, Linoone's cry is way longer than Zigzagoon's: would it be faster to farm rare candies with Zigzagoon, at the cost of cancelling its evolution at each level?
Winona being beaten by a flying pokemon is ironic
I used the flying types to destroy the flying types.
This is really chill and enjoyable homie, thanks. I sleep poorly and get anxious and your voice and explanations were a true balm
Incredible stuff. Really well done.
Nicely done, definitely a marathon TAS than a quick one
Great game, great TAS, great commentary. Nice work.
When Nuzleaf was evolved into Shiftry in section 5, the left bar instead claimed Ludicolo was obtained, which confused me for a couple of minutes since I knew that obtaining a Water Stone to get Ludicolo absolutely requires Dive. Only after searching around for any possibility I had missed I looked more closely at the game footage at that moment and saw that it was actually supposed to be Shiftry.
Good catch. I'm supprised I messed that up 😂.
i loved it, thanks you
This is a an insane run. Very well done!
hi
this probably took forever to route... good stuff!
well done.
I've done the challenge myself on so many of the games gens 1-5. Watching it done so fast is crazy satisfying, and makes me want to see it done with BW2. That oak challenge is hell.
Also that 1% wailord encounter in section 5 was funny, must of been annoying to manipulate that encounter though
Do you plan on making more content similair to this? Really like this vid!!
This is a really impressive TAS! Did you consider EXP share for mandatory fights to reduce grinding for rare candies, or is it for sure slower? I'd be interested in seeing this pickup strat used in a diploma tas where the route and rules are more flexible rather than more bottlenecked.
27:29 Wouldn't it have been faster to go through the whismur tunnel to get back to rustboro to revive the fossil?
i thought of a crazy poc call it the ultra poc living dex challange.
Rules. same as normal poc but with a few extra.
1: must obtain all possible pokemon but also for a living dex so you need 3 of each of something that evolves 3 times from example 3 Sedots as you need nuzleaf and sedot and would need another one for shifttree later as for a living dex you would need all three if traded to another game.
2: part of rule 1 must reset for a female starter to bread it later when possible
3: the rule that makes it ultra All Pokemon must be level 100 before the badges.
4: bonus Rule If A shiny Is found it must also be leveled to 100 also. even if you already have completed the line Ie if you already have ziggy and linoone both level 100 then you find a shiny ziggy that must also be level 100 before the badge.
thats sounds possible but if you want to make it impossible make all pokemon must also be shiny wich would mean resetting for a female shiny starter
I think i might try this wonder how long it would take. but only with normal ones
Wow
Pretty painful watching you simply evolve Shroomish before Spore was learned at Level 53 😢
I get it would’ve taken a lot longer with all those “What?! Shroomish is Evolving!” screens since you don’t have the Everstone yet, but with Spore + Focus Punch/Other powerful Fighting moves + Return/Frustration + [Obligatory Grass type coverage], Breloom stomps a vast majority of the game with just moves alone and that FAT Attack Stat!!! Breloom + Slaking in Doubles is also pretty busted in this game if you have Slaking as a Mixed Attacker, as he tends to make those Psychic twin Gym Leaders shudder in total fear 👍🏽
Overall, I’m very impressed with this run regardless of how I feel about what I said earlier 😅😁

What's going on at 35:00 in the video where you spend hours at the cave entrance?
Shoal Cave's layout changes with the time of day, making the Snorunt area inaccessible at certain hours. OP explains at the end of the video that he arrived just late and had to wait 5 hours
Wondering why that weird gym order? Is it part of the rules to only tale gyms that unlock new pokemon?
Not just part of the rules, it's the entire challenge. A Professor Oak's challenge has you register as many pokemon on your Pokedex as possible before obtaining your next badge. Because Brawley can be skipped, you catch as many pokemon as possible, beat Wattson to unlock Rock Smash and more of the map, catch more pokemon, beat Flannery as she is in the area you were just catching, beat Brawley on the way back to Norman who requires 4 badges, then unlocking Surf and more of the map. Catch more pokemon, skip Winona as Fly is optional, catch all of the ocean pokemon, Tate & Liza for Dive, catch any Dive exclusive pokemon, do the Magma/Aqua Sootopolis story, Juan for Waterfall, catch all Victory Road pokemon as that is before badge checking, and finally go back for Winona as her badge is the only badge that the game requires to get into the Elite Four.
If this was gen 1 you would beat Brock as you have to as the kid blocks the way, then catch everything that isn't behind a cut tree, beat Misty for Cut, and then catch anything that doesn't require Surf, deal with Team Rocket to wake Snorlax may as well clear out Silph Co while you're in the area, beat Koga for Surf, and catch everything else that isn't behind the badge check for Victory Road, then go beat the rest of the gyms, after beating Giovanni's gym, catch anything that is Victory Road exclusive (Moltres for example), beat the Elite Four, go catch Mewtwo.
@@Peelster1 Thanks, I was a little lost. I saw other youtuber doing a POC and he said that rules where like "Catch as many pokemon as possible before each gym" so he did gyms in order, there where some gyms that didn't had any new mons.
But I guess rules change base on the creator.
@@alejandrocortes1149Hoenn and Kanto are the most nonlinear regions in the Pokemon series since, respectively; the HMs unlocked by Brawly and Winona are optional since they don't give access to more Pokemon, only convenience; and Kanto's third gym leader you fight can be Lt. Surge, Erika, Sabrina, or Koga since only Blaine and Giovanni have other requirements besides just Cut. Koga is the optimal leader to choose in this case because you get access to the HM unlocking the most Pokemon you can catch at your badge count of three, Surf. Erika is fought next to get Articuno since it's locked behind Strength, followed by the rest.
16:37 what song is that?
Route 113, the one with volcanic ash raining down east of Fallarbor Town.
"This challenge run is played at 25x speed" and I'm playing this video at 2x speed. If you thought this video had flashing lights before... [a'oerigs'oij Sorry seizure.
Cool run. I enjoyed your explanations. I suggest you work on balancing the audio in your voiceover. Some sections you were loud and other were quiet. (Although the loud was probably more because I turned my volume up to hear you and then got my ears blasted later.)
Insane but hey. Ever consider save some time of RC grinds by catching evo mons thats in wild later on?
The point of Prof Oak’s Challenge is to get the evolutions before each gym badge, so stuff like Pelipper and Linoone have to be evolved before Roxanne
@@Neo_Bones i thought the rule is to collect all pokemon dex entries available in game without glitches & trading ?
Before each gym badge, yes.
It's an oak challenge, can't do that
You have to fill out the maximum amount of pages in the Pokédex possible before obtaining each badge, you can only use one copy of a set, no glitches/cheats and no outside trading (in game trades are allowed)
But this doesnt look like a true Professor Oak's Challenge.
In the true version, you have one of each in the evolution line, not just the end evolution.
That’s a living prof oak challenge, this is the original challenge
Wrong
@@RealClassixX the Rules have you fill out as many Pages in the Pokédex possible before each badge, the rules say nothing on have one of each per evo line, that’s a rule that can be added for more of a longer run
@@KyleSpeedruns Yes? Which is why OP is wrong.
That's literally not what a TAS is...
Uhh, what else would you call it if it isn't a Tool Assisted Speedrun?
You think the person making a 18 hour TAS might know a thing or two about TAS’s, or are you just the authority on this
@@pokegarchomp TAS is when a person is using game hacks/tools to do a speedrun. It's not a computer program using hacks & tools to speedrun, it's a person. Really stupid way for op to define what a TAS is because it's literally not true.
@@protonjones54 it’s prerecorded inputs, its a meaningless distinction
@@protonjones54 It's a person using a computer program. It's a person using tools which in this case is the computer program. All tools are computer programs. Hacks were never part of it. The majority of TAS use prerecorded inputs such as this or use a slow down feature. Would you rather have him play the game himself at 1FPS in an attempt to make every input frame perfect that way instead? That would be unreasonable and no TAS anywhere does it like that.
