Urgh... I had the resolve to evolve my starter to Evolution 2 in Sinnoh before the Prof said i could keep it. He just said somethink like: Oh it already evolved, good for you. It was so worth it.
@@Xerophlume it actually does happen. When I was younger and messed with action replay he mentions an alternate text if the game doesn't recognise the base stage of the starter Pokémon prior evolution since it should be impossible to have more than that one Pokémon in the party.
You said self destruction was useless for this kind of challenge. It's actually great when leveling up a pokemon with no moves, because you can put out your Abra or whatever on a Dugtrio and then self destruct your graveler so Abra gets 100% of the 600 experience.
But was it useless? No. He was only thinking of how self destruct doesn't give the user experience, and not how self destruct was designed to help your teammates, by getting rid of a large threat at a weaker level AND the teammate gets all the experience. You're going to the Pokémon center a lot anyway because you'll be stuck taking 2 turns off Dugtrio damage during normal switch training, which could equal a Pokemon center visit if you aren't at end game levels, compared to 1 Dugtrio battle with self destruct. Would 1 self destruct fight + PC visit be faster than 2 switch training fights + PC visit?
What is faster tho? Getting 600 experience and then walking back to the pokemon center to do it again or switch training it normally and getting 300xp twice?

This allows you to bypass the Saffron guards, and gives you access to the Celadon moon stone. Professor Oak "Awe yes I need you to go catch all the Pokemon in the world and fill my Pokedex" Trainer "Hold my beer" Professor Oak "Your not old enough to drink"
That's actually very close to what I'd do when I was a kid. I'd catch every available pokemon before each gym and level all of them up to a certain level cap (20 for brock, 25 for misty and so on), the grind was real.
I did something similar but for brock it was 15 because I didn't have patience. (I also do 25 for Misty 30 for Surge and so on lol.) The grind requires patience but basically by doing this your team could be nearly as weak as you want and still be able to over power Leaders through Levels alone lol
@@alolanexeggutor1010 He explicitly said he didn't level the Kakuna and Metapod though. He leveled the Weedle and Caterpie so they could retain their starting attack moves. Otherwise you have to level Kakuna and Metapod by switch training like a Magikarp.
I would almost be tempted to try BUT I work so much and I like to be able to enjoy my free time, and this challenge would not be fun but stressful lol. Great video as ALWAYS (really goes without saying, so I don’t always say so lol).
Weird, I thought Professor Oak's challenge was getting the 16 digits and date on the front and the 3 wacky digits on the back of some plastic card your mom owns.
I have a challenge inspired by that feature in newer games that remind you the party you challenge every Gym Leader with: 1. You MUST catch the first Pokémon you find in every Route, if you defeat it, you have to catch one of the same species before doing anything else. 2. When your party is full, your newest catch must replace your oldest. Which means if I reach the place where I can get my 7th Pokémon, it replaces my starter, the next one must replace the 2nd Pokémon I got and so on and so forth. You get to try Pokémon at every place and each Gym Leader feels challenging, since you can't get attached to them too much, since some Pokémon might leave your party as soon as they arrive you'll tackle Gyms and battles head-on with minimal grinding. Stuff like Selfdestruct that I never used, suddenly became viable since that Pokémon will leave the party eventually.
The crazy thing is that I pretty much did something this in a video about a year back. I did a nuzlocke where I had to swap out Pokemon once I got to a full party, so every encounter was added to my party. It was actually really fun!
@@JohnstoneYT It's definitely Nuzlocke-inspired, but without perma-death. So that major battles become a game of "How little do I have to grind in order to win with my current team? ", almost like a puzzle.
Probably a lot harder of a challenge is one I called "the ace challenge". Rule 1) only allowed to have 6 Pokemon total (none in box unless fainted) Rule 2) if it faints, it's dead. Throw away. Rule 3) the first Pokemon on the route is what you have to catch if you decide to bypass the route and catch a 6th Pokemon if one faints (so instance, passing on kakuna in veridian forest means if you decide to go back, you HAVE to catch kakuna). And rule 4) special nickname for them so the fear of losing the Pokemon becomes even greater. (Also they are your family in the game, and all family members deserve a name) So basically, nuzlocke but only have a total of 6 at a time (no back ups in pc).
@@AncientED5 Gen 6 removed the exp change that gen 5 added. For some stupid reason, they brought it back in gen 7. I hope it goes away again, and never returns. Yes it is great when you are underleveled, but when trying to get to level 100 when you can't fight anything higher than level 60, it becomes a huge pain. The only way to really level at that point is to use as many buffs as you can, and fight the highest level of highest exp givers that you can. Not really good. You can end up only getting 1 or 2 exp from a battle.

@@emperortgp2424 I know. That was stated in my comment. It's not exactly a guaranteed fail though meaning that risking a failure to make it easier to catch was gutsy.
@@emperortgp2424 In case you wanted to know more. Teleport in Gen 1 has a chance to fail based on the user's and opponent's levels. He hat a level 33 Venusaur against a level 8 Abra. That translates to roughly a 19% fail chance in that specific case. The range is generally between 12.5% and 25% with a higher chance to fail, if the opponent is of a higher level.

subbed to see u do this for every generation game. also a suggestion, i think it would be nice if you added images of the badges you've collected so far, maybe illuminating them once acquired. you could place it between the counter and game cover artwork, and it doesn't need to be big, just enough to keep in mind how many are completed so far. keep up the good work.
I facepalmed really hard when you wasted precious early Pokéballs on Metapod and Kakuna when literally your next action has to be evolving them and you're using their base forms anyway so you don't have to switch.

Surely you can use the trainers before brock/gym masters to level up pokemon faster and get some early cash? (doesn't get you the badge which is what the challenge states)
This brings me full of nostalgia, back on 1999 when i started playing the American version, i could not understand a word of English so i tried to do all these crazy things you can imagine to try and progress in the game, this was one of them. Good times, good video.
I want to someday take on the "Gift Pokemon" challenge. Your team can only consist of the Pokemon you receive throughout the game, none you catch yourself. Starters, (obviously) gift Pokemon and Fossil Pokemon all count. Edit: Trades do NOT count as gift Pokemon since you need to catch other Pokemon to begin the trade. Edit 2: Also, no Pokemon bought at the Game Corner. Those aren't gifts, they're prizes which cost money.
I want to see Pokemon x and y done with this because that would simultaneously be really easy and really hard at the same time. There's about four hundred and something Pokemon in the regional dex, for some stupid reason you can't rematch any trainers. And a lot of the levels of wild Pokemon tend to be low early on in the game wow each area has a humongous variety of Pokemon that you would need to get up to very high levels. But stuff like the exp share would ba a small blessings
keep in mind that early on (route 8 and connecting cave) has bagon and axew respectively, even with the exp share its gonna take a long time for just these 2
*Why didn't you teach TMs to the really annoying Pokemons* like watergun to Psyduck so you are not stuck with scratch for 20 levels? Rules seem to not prevent you from it...

I couldn't agree more, surf would have saved a tons of times with all the water pokemon with limited movepool. (Not at all looking at you psyduck)

I did that in Pearl....without evolving my Pokemon.
Early game:
I'm struggling with the amount of pokeballs... I captured kakkuna and Metapod separatedly from Caterpie and Weedle because whynot
I'm wondering if he battled Blue west of Veridian City for some extra dough.
Because Wynaut?
Because it's less leveling, ya magikarps.
Alolan Exeggutor
Barely.
I forgot that gen 1 Golbat sprite is absolutely nightmare fuel
It's horrific and goofy at the same time, I really don't know what to make of it
Yellow has the best sprites
Which is why I avoid playing red and blue. Awful sprites.
Only red and blue, red and green has a normal golbat
Weird, I thought Professor Oak's challenge was getting the 16 digits and date on the front and the 3 wacky digits on the back of some plastic card your mom owns.

I have a challenge inspired by that feature in newer games that remind you the party you challenge every Gym Leader with:
Rule 1) only allowed to have 6 Pokemon total (none in box unless fainted)
Rule 2) if it faints, it's dead.
(Also they are your family in the game, and all family members deserve a name)
So basically, nuzlocke but only have a total of 6 at a time (no back ups in pc).
First video in this series, great to watch!
I didnt know how fun it is to watch Pokemon videos. Please keep em coming, I love it!
Imagine doing this in BW/B2W2, or *shuders* SM/USUM. That exp loss for higher levels..
Rena Ami Akai I’m confident if you did USUM you’d max out the game time. There are something like 70 Pokemon before the first trial 😳
999:59...that’s hard to comprehend
@@cylasbreakdown6140 With how the exp works in gens 5 and 7, it can take a long time to level up, and having so many to level also adds to it.
I suppose at least EXP share and exp from catching wild pokemon helps in Gen 6 and 7

Teleport fails in battle in gen 1
@@emperortgp2424 I know. That was stated in my comment. It's not exactly a guaranteed fail though meaning that risking a failure to make it easier to catch was gutsy.
Sorry, i thought it always failed
Emperor TGP nah, in battle, teleport allows Abra to run from battle, which makes catching it painful

This is impressive! I’ll note, though, that you could have used the Surf HM to speed up a LOT of levelling, especially for the water types.

I facepalmed really hard when you wasted precious early Pokéballs on Metapod and Kakuna when literally your next action has to be evolving them and you're using their base forms anyway so you don't have to switch.
Also not using Pokemon yellow.
@@vyor8837 Yellow is not the first games pokemon games that came out blue, red and green (japanese only) are.
Yellow came out 2 years later after gameboy color came out which is why yellow has better game color as well as letting you get the three starter pokemon.

That's only if you have less than 2 Pokémon in your dex. Evolve the starter or catch something before talking to him and you'll miss them.
I learned about a hidden Moon Stone 21 years after I started playing Pokemon. Great work.
I would love to see someone do this in yellow where you can get a slightly fuller Pokédex due to the fact that you can get the 3 other starters. It would also have the advantage of not having to evolve your starter at all because it rejects the thunderstone
You only have to beat Misty to go South from Cerulean in Let's Go. FRLG are just as open as the originals.
I'm only guessing that most people just never paid attention to when officer Jenny moves, and just assumed it was the badge that triggered the event, backed up by how the other guy doesn't let you leave until you beat Brock

Charmander = Hard Mode
Squirtle = Medium
Bulbasaur = Easy.
It was even mentioned in the Manual (Trainers Guide) from this Game.
It is based on the first two Gyms. Charmander has a disadvantage against Brock and Misty. Squirtle has one advantage and one is neutral. And Bulbasaur has two advantages.
Surely you can use the trainers before brock/gym masters to level up pokemon faster and get some early cash? (doesn't get you the badge which is what the challenge states)

You need to catch a (for example) cubone to complete the mr. mime trade, so I would say that trades don’t count.
WayWardWanderer not a bad idea! I think it should be a little harder by making it a nuzlocke or something, but that would be a cool concept
Johnstone if you would do that i recommend pokemon X and Y because you would be able to at least get 5 pokemon and it would be easier than others
Oh dear god, I think johnstone is a masochist.....
Which game would be the best option. I’d feel a lot if the games would be solo running with your starter
You know how some people subconsciously avoid using potions or other disposables even at the very end of the game?
I have a feeling it hasn’t to do with that
Or, better yet, HM's. He already had access to surf and strength at that point.
@Eric Chauche
Excellent point
@@Abdega I know, but since he teaches Bubble Beam to Kabuto later iz makes no sense to not teach watergun or Mega punch early on to harder level up pokemen and Strength or Surf to mid-game Pokemon (around Koga's gym)
