I'm going to use this to repair a pinhole in the fuel tank of a Feuerhand 280 hurricane lantern. After spending days without power after Hurricane Helene came through here, I'm more convinced than ever that the "old tech" is the way to go. My oil lamps worked when everything battery-powered didn't, and they kept me from having to go into town hunting for fresh batteries like all the other people were having to do. It's great being able to buy an American product for the task, and KBS gets a ton of positive reviews from folks who have used it for small jobs like repairing lanterns.
@@Kbscoatings-us Just got your package in the mail yesterday and already coated the tank of my Feuerhand 280. Let it sit overnight and the coating is wonderfully dry already. Couldn't ask for an easier product to use, honestly. No mixing and measuring and worrying that I got it right. Am I right in assuming the can won't dry out so long as I keep it firmly closed? Or should I work overtime to seal the other lanterns I have before this small can of sealant sets off? Overall 2 thumbs up! Excellent in every regard and I'll certainly recommend KBS to anyone needing to seal a tank!
Worked great. Tie your ring of nuts to about 18” of fishing line, let 2 or 3” stick outside the tank opening and snap the cap down tight on it. When you’re finished just pull the nut ring out. Just a tip but not really necessary.
Just to help anyone out. I did this on an 07 GSX-R . If you are doing this to a sports bike tank or anything with a large opening on the bottom for the fuel pump. I wedged a styrofoam cup in and that did provide a good watertight seal. Duct tape did not work. Taking a few spare nuts and putting them on a chain to bounce around was critical for built up gunk. Don’t toss in loose bolts unless you like fishing and cursing. Additionally on my tank a siphon was a MUST, pick up two cheap siphons. Use one for the cleaner / etch. And the other for the sealer. The curvature of the tank did not allow for adequate drainage by itself. Wait until the sealer is ready to be drained, then siphon ,leaving just enough to roll around to fill in any smudges made while pumping it out. This stuff works really dam well and I hope my tips help!

Last night I just finished treating the gas tank of my 1997 Suzuki RF900R that has a 5.55 gallon metal tank. I've had my Suzuki since new but my carburetors got clogged with so much rust inside the tank. Let me tell you that, honestly, I could NOT be happier with this KBS Tank Sealer Kit product. I took my time within a 2-day time period to do it right. I followed the instructions in this video except that I gave it extra time so the RustBlast could finish etching and graying the entire interior of my tank. In my view Rustblast is simply amazing. it perfectly coats the entire tank with zinc. I poured the left-over RustBlast in a bucket full of old rusted screw driver bits and it restored them really well. I poured it back into its original bottle and keeping handy to zinc any other rusted part in the future. I consider the sealer in this kit to be perfect too. Once you stir it up really well, you get a runny sealer that reaches and immediately coats every single little crevice inside the tank. It applies a nice, even, thick coat all over without leaving any voids. The amount of sealer in this kit was just enough to coat my entire 5.55 gallon metal tank. I am now just waiting for the recommended 5 days to let the sealer completely cure before I pour gasoline back into my tank. Thank you KBS. It's been truly a pleasure using your product.
Using this at the moment, pays to have at least 5L demineralised water, a wet vac and hair dryer available. At least two days to do it properly helps so handy to do it while getting over covid. Had fair amount of rust so used double strength cleaning vinegar twice with 4-5mm ball bearings and some soak time, removed plenty of rust n varnish. Rinsed multiple times with tap water and dried with hair dryer. Followed KBS instructions after that but used demineralised water to avoid flash rust. My tank doesn't drain so wet vac is worth its weight in gold, so is duct tape and a short length of small black poly pipe. Cheers.
Thank you I used your comment and mine turned out great. We must have the same tank mine was leaky in some places that shop vac was the reigning champ.
Rust is amazing. Takes rust away with little effort. Anyone who wants to use this patients is the key. I have a xv750j virago, the tank has a enormous frame tunnel unlike the one in the video. I have a 2013 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom. KBS Klean did a great job getting the varnish/residue out of the tank so I can clearly see all the rust that needs to get cleaned out by the RustBlast. Not sure if it is related, but the duct tape did not keep the holes closed where the fuel pump and gauge would normally sit. Since the purpose of the Klean is to break down the gummy substances, this may also counteract the stickiness of the tape. I did have plastic over the holes secured by rubber bands just in case - I did have some fluid leakage that made it through both barriers on the tank underbelly. Plastic under the gas cap kept a pretty good seal.
@@acagz536 How did you go with that? I'm about to do my VF750F and it also has a large hole foe the fuel huage sender unit. As the sender itself is pretty rusty I'm thinking of taking it off the base plate and using the bolting the plate back on and get a new sender.

I believe that’s the Zinc Phosphate he explains, you get in the video. Read some comments as well; some replies explains that this is normal and that it is what the Sealer Adheres to. If there are any doubts wash it all out, use Acetone then check out Red Kote tank liner; similar process. How do you handle a Harley gas tank with fuel injection that is inside the tank attached to a fuel plate cover that is approximately 8" x 4" leaving a big whole at the top of the tank once the injection is removed?. Do you remove the EFI system from the top plate then screw the plate back on, then start the chemical process. I have purchased your kit and a new top plate. Just waiting on better instructions on how to proceed. Should I put the plate back on or use tape to cover the large whole? I also know that you have to protect the 12 screw hole threads that screw the top plate on and the threads of the quick release that is at the bottom of the tank and not a petcock. I'm sure there are a lot of Harley owners out there that are wondering the same things. Thank you for making a reasonably priced option to seal a tank but I really need to know is how to handle a tank other than the ones I keep seeing without EFI and the top plate
Yes, most would remove the EFI and then screw the plate back on. You can protect all screws and threads with petroleum jelly as the Tank Sealer will not adhere to a greased surface. Some people also tape heavy plastic over the hole (like painter's plastic), but the tape can leak at times depending on the strength of the adhesive of the tape. Does that help?
Can't find that tape anywhere on your website. I don't think it'd work on my tank anyway, don't really have anything to wrap around. Anyone got any ideas, the hole is almost flush & a wine corks too big
The reserve tank straw and tank sediment filter attached to the fuel tap on old Hondas fit directly inside that fuel outlet tube that you covered with tape. If that hole gets blocked by sealer then the straw and filter won't fit in there and if the sealer is too hard to drill then you've ruined your tank. I don't see how this method will not fill the outlet tube up or partially block it with sealer and cause problems when you try to screw the fuel tap back on. Do the instructions give advice on how to keep the outlet tube completely free of sealer? I've heard some people fill that tube with newspaper before they tape it. Those filters are a custom fit and if even a drop of the sealer blocks the hole then the filter will not fit.

Hi, How can I remove the KBS sealer from a tank? I bought a mototrcycle and it the previous owner let the sealer pool and dry inside the tank. I now have large pieces unsticking from the tank walls. Will paint stripper work to remove the sealer? I need to redo the KBS kit.
MEK is the best to use but don't get it on your paint... You need to fill the tank to the top and wait 24-72 hours for it to break down the coating. Also where gloves and a proper mask to avoid inhaling the fumes as it is Toxic!
You can use a big cork or plastic/duct tape to close the hole while cleaning, etching, and sealing. When you are done draining the Tank Sealer, you can pull the cork out or remove the plastic/duct tape.
Can I use the same (duct tape/electrical tape) with the paint stripper? Or do I need to use a rubber gasket where the petcock valve goes? I have a Suzuki Bandit 600, and it has several opening that will need to be covered in order to use the stripper.
I have multiple pin holes in my tank. Like blisters in the paint job. Every blister is a pin hole. Will it seal it ? Sure do hope so because a used tank for a yamaha road star 1600 is pretty pricey !!!
I'm not sure I rinsed enough after the rust blast sequence yesterday, do you suggest I put back the stuff I took out and give it another cycle or just let it dry off a little longer to see if flash rust develops. I used an air gun and heater to dry it out but there's a few water stains. It's completely rust free inside and no flash rust as yet
No flash rust is 100% normal. You can always reuse the strained and captured RustBlast. And a nice rinse with water is all that is needed. And like you did, dry the tank well after rinsing. RustBlast will leave behind a dusting of zinc phosphate that aids in the adhesion of Tank Sealer.
Can i use this product if i had 2 stroke oil mixed with gasoline, do i need to to clean the oil out with different product or is this procedure enough? DKW 1952......
The KBS Klean will easily clean the oil mixed gas. And Tank Sealer is impervious to 2 stroke oil mixed gas making this system ideal for 2 stroke fuel tanks.
how would you go about using this product but on a efi sportster tank because of the big hole in the bottom for the fuel pump? I plan on picking up a 4.5 gallon tank from J&P cycles for a 2014 Harley Forty Eight. Thanks in andvance!
You will utilize pipe cleaners to keep the petcock open. Pull the pipe cleaners after the Tank Sealer has stopped moving and BEFORE the Tank Sealer cures.
After a thorough coating inside of tank, patiently DRAIN ALL EXCESS SEALER from tank until it no longer drips sealer. Additionally, to avoid puddling and pooling of excess sealer inside the tank, rotate the tank side to side every 5 minutes. This step is especially IMPORTANT if design of the tank makes complete draining difficult. This additional rotating of the tank will help minimize excess accumulation in any single area, and result in a slightly thicker coating on ALL walls inside the tank. Foaming and bubbling are signs of excessive Sealer accumulation and gas entrapment due to ineffective drainage.
I have a 2003 Harley Davidson tank and wanted to know how to go about removing the factory sealing inside the tank before using the new kbs sealer. It is chipped or bubbling in some parts but other areas are still sealed. grey color sealant?
Use KBS Strip for the most effective removal of an old failed coating. Pour some KBS Strip into tank and carefully rotate tank to allow contact with all sides. It may take multiple applications of KBS Strip to finish the job completely. Old Sealer may come loose in big chunks or small pieces so use a long tweezers-type tool to help remove it from the tank. After stripping is complete, rinse tank generously with water and proceed with the KBS 3-Step System for Fuel Tank Preparation & Sealing. (NOTE: When stripping a Fiberglass Tank, surface contact with the stripping agent should be kept to a minimum to avoid the attack & weakening of the fiberglass resin.)
After the 40-60 mins of rolling the sealer and pouring off any excess, he says roll it every 5 or 10 mins. How long to continue rolling it every 5 or 10 minutes ?
@@Kbscoatings-us Thanks. With a baffled 4+ gal tank and 8 oz sealer, an hour after pouring in there was no way to hear or see the sealer moving. Was asking for the next guy.
Will the sealer withstand the heat of an oven during powder coating? Or would it be best to powder coat after rinsing and drying and then seal the inside?
+Nathan Garza As long as your powder coater keeps temperatures at 400F, the Tank Sealer will be fine. To be on the safe side, we recommend the power coating first and then the Tank Sealer.
Yes, if you did not keep the fuel line open during the sealing process (with air), then after the Tank Sealer has fully cure, you can drill through it.
@@Kbscoatings-us Hi, Is this product have an oder, Would like to do my tank over the winter in my basement or out in the garage, Can it be used in cool weather 30* or 40*. thanks. George. Niagara Falls, n.y.
@@Kbscoatings-us thanks for the response. I have a very narrow crescent moon shaped crack on the under side of my tank. It's where one of the bolts holds the tank to the frame on my old Triumph. 55 years of past owners over tightening that bolt and it finally wore through the metal and created a leak. I'm not sure if lining the tank will fix it, so I'm worried I'll do the lining then end up at the welders if it doesn't fix the leak. That's why I was asking what would happen to the seal if I had to weld part of the tank. If welding one spot would burn off the sealer, would you just seal it again?
@@daveco1270 Yes. Clean up the weld mess on the inside of the tank with KBS Klean. Then apply a dust coat of Fusion SEP. Rolling the tank around and drain out the excess. Then do the Tank Sealer Step again. Tank Sealer does not stick well to itself so that is why you would use Fusion SEP.
Yes, Tank Sealer dries to 4 mils (.004"), so it will span a pinhole (tip of a pin). If the pinhole is in a weak rusty area, be aware that it may enlarge as you prep the tank with KBS Klean and RustBlast. If that does happen, we do have options to patch the hole from the outside and prep and seal the inside of the tank.
I ordered this kit a while back and go finally got to use it. I took a peek inside the tank after the cleaner and I saw a bunch of rust. I used the rust blast and afterwards noticed it was all gone. Nice. I let it sit so it could dry after I rinsed it out. I figured I'd do it at night and let it just drain overnight but when I checked my tank (same day) there was flash rust all inside the tank. is this normal? now I'm hesitant to seal the tank with rust in it again, albeit not as much rust as before. suggestions?
The KBS 3-Step Tank Sealer System is absolutely ideal for new tanks. If you leave a new tank uncoated, it will eventually rust leaving you with clogged fuel filters. A very common misconception with sealing new tanks is that you do not need the KBS Klean and RustBlast. New tanks made of new steel are very slick and not an ideal surface for Tank Sealer to stick, so we always recommend KBS Klean and RustBlast to properly clean and etch the surface of the new tank so the Tank Sealer can bite into the surface and adhere permanently.
was thinking the same thing .. nice save from KBS here ey .. oh oh it can also be used on a new tank .. wanting everyone to think its an old rusted out tank .. but instead its a new one painted brown to look "old" then scratched up a bit
Even after all the comments of people saying they used it With great results. The cry baby conspiracy group has to chime in. That tank wasn't rusty enough , so this is fake. Just because a tank is shiny at the top.Does it mean it doesn't have rust in the bottom. And telling you it can be used on a new tank is not a save. It's a professional letting you know that you're tank does not have to be rusted to enjoy the benefits of this product. It's kind of like a Chinese buffet. If you don't like it , you don't have to put it on your plate, Can you don't cuss out the cook. Son
RustBlast needs to be used at full strength and not diluted. So, it is not necessary for the surface to be bone dry, but you do not want so much water still in the tank that the RustBlast gets diluted. Does that help?
@@Kbscoatings-us yes definitely does, it did wonders but will need to do another pass since I accidentally left the tank outside over night and the condensation from the cold made it rust again. For the sealer it does need to be bone dry correct?
It is best to do the powder coating first. That said, as long as your powder coater keeps the temperature at 400F, that will not harm the Tank Sealer after it has fully cured.
Question. My "mechanic used some one step crap on my aftermarket peanut tank. right now the gas is evaporating and draining because the sealer he used is dissolving inside the tank and mixing with the gas. Can I still use this to clean and reseal the tank? Also there is a hole around the petcock ring. Should I seal it with some weld stuff before re sealing? thanks!

Carefully Pour entire contents of can into tank and slowly rotate and roll tank until all sides are evenly coated. Patiently work with it for a minimum of 20 minutes but no longer than 1 hour, periodically checking inside. If an area needs extra attention, prop the tank so that the excess collects on that area. Continue this until the majority of the remaining sealer is loosened and/or removed. After Strip has been allowed to work, pour out & capture into an appropriate metal container for possible reuse. Rinse tank thoroughly with water. If any part of the sealer still remains, repeat steps until old sealant is removed.Rinse tank with water and allow to dry COMPLETELY before using appropriate prep products and Gold Standard Tank Sealer.
Vinegar will take out rust leave it in for around 2 or 4 days it will take the rust out make it look new inside ..that is what I use...aint nothing work as good as vinegar......
Yes, you can use the 3-Step Tank Sealing System on a carbon fiber tank. The procedure for sealing a Fiberglass Tank is the same except for a variance in Step #2 - RustBlast. For this type of tank, thoroughly wet the fiberglass surface for only 2 minutes using RustBlast. Drain and rinse well with water as directed. Because you are not prepping metal or dissolving rust, RustBlast may be saved and re-used for future use. RustBlast will, however, treat the fiberglass surface by giving it a more acidic pH level & by leaving a zinc phosphate coating ideal for Sealer adhesion. Also, it is important to make sure that the tank is completely dry inside before sealing. Drying is best accomplished by introducing forced air into the tank by using a shop vac, blow dryer, or fan. (NOTE: Drying is a critical step for sealing fiberglass tanks. Fiberglass tends to hold moisture and if the tank is not dried completely, the Sealer will not adhere properly.) IMPORTANT: It is also very critical to methodically coat the entire fiberglass tank completely & thoroughly with the Sealer. If any part of the fiberglass surface should accidentally be left exposed or unsealed, however, these unprotected areas will be very susceptible to deterioration by alcohol blended fuels and it is therefore highly recommended that these fuels not be used in fiberglass tanks even after sealing. After coating the tank, remember to drain well to avoid pooling and puddles.
You can take some heavy plastic and tape it to the inside of the filler neck and then wrap it around the outside of the tank. Also, take your time and be careful. Most customers who seal up their tanks have a beautiful paint job on the exterior of the tank.
You can get that out with MEK which is available at most paint stores and home improvement stores. After you get it out, you can do the KBS 3-Step Tank Sealing System.
A coaster sized glob was peeled up allowing rust into petcock. I got the chunk of old sealer out but the rest of the tank is still covered in old sealer. Not sure if new sealer would stick to old sealer...
Most people use pipe cleaner to keep their pet cock open and remove the pipe cleaners when the Tank Sealer has set up some but not completely. (2 hours is usually ideal).
Nice video.. I never was a "restoration" type and a brand new gas tank isn't more than all the work and expense of refurbishing a piece of crap... Someone should try 3D printing these things?
Well it's not very professional that you claim to clean the rust out but you refuse to let the camera get an angle at the rest or the supposedly clean area. I did not trust any product or the demonstrator will not show you the effects of the product

How can I remove the KBS sealer from a tank? I bought a mototrcycle and it the previous owner let the sealer pool and dry inside the tank. I now have large pieces unsticking from the tank walls. Will paint stripper work to remove the sealer? I need to redo the KBS kit.
MEK is the best to use but don't get it on your paint... You need to fill the tank to the top and wait 24-72 hours for it to break down the coating. Also where gloves and a proper mask to avoid inhaling the fumes as it is Toxic!
dvae74123 KBS Strip will take out cured Tank Sealer: www.kbs-coatings.com/KBS-Strip.html
You can use a big cork or plastic/duct tape to close the hole while cleaning, etching, and sealing. When you are done draining the Tank Sealer, you can pull the cork out or remove the plastic/duct tape.
And make sure you wrap the cork or plug with plastic
Can I use the same (duct tape/electrical tape) with the paint stripper? Or do I need to use a rubber gasket where the petcock valve goes? I have a Suzuki Bandit 600, and it has several opening that will need to be covered in order to use the stripper.
I have multiple pin holes in my tank. Like blisters in the paint job. Every blister is a pin hole. Will it seal it ? Sure do hope so because a used tank for a yamaha road star 1600 is pretty pricey !!!
Yes, The Tank Sealer System will seal up pin holes. Does the tank have a previous coating on the inside of the tank?
@ not that i can tell
@ thank you for your rapid response !
@@chrishelton1212 Perfect. Grab the Tank Sealer Kit and that is all you need. www.kbs-coatings.com/kbs-tank-sealer-system
I'm assuming this stops leaks?
Can i use this product if i had 2 stroke oil mixed with gasoline, do i need to to clean the oil out with different product or is this procedure enough? DKW 1952......
The KBS Klean will easily clean the oil mixed gas. And Tank Sealer is impervious to 2 stroke oil mixed gas making this system ideal for 2 stroke fuel tanks.
I did everything to the directions say. I still have a lot of rust leftover. Do I just coat over that. Or do I get some more acid and do it again?
Do you have surface rust or flaky rust?
how would you go about using this product but on a efi sportster tank because of the big hole in the bottom for the fuel pump? I plan on picking up a 4.5 gallon tank from J&P cycles for a 2014 Harley Forty Eight. Thanks in andvance!
Mine came with a rubber plug. Had no idea what or was for until this video. LOL!
Am i the only one who has extreme difficulties getting the kbs tank sealer can open?
Do you not have to worry about the sealer clogging the fuel petcock?
You will utilize pipe cleaners to keep the petcock open. Pull the pipe cleaners after the Tank Sealer has stopped moving and BEFORE the Tank Sealer cures.
I’m using the kbs kit but I can’t get the sealer out, it will not come out the fuel pump nor gas cap opening. Suzuki SV1000S
Use KBS Strip: www.kbs-coatings.com/KBS-Strip.html
Until the Tank Sealer is set up enough that it is no longer moving on the inside of the tank.
To be on the safe side, we recommend the power coating first and then the Tank Sealer.
how do you properly clear the fuel line hole once the seal is done? just drill a hole through it? or what? thanks for any info!!
Yes, if you did not keep the fuel line open during the sealing process (with air), then after the Tank Sealer has fully cure, you can drill through it.

If you have to do some welding on the outside of the tank at some point, how will that affect the coating inside?
Typically, it burns off the Tank Sealer in the weld spots. Can you do the welding before you do the Tank Sealing?

I have a new tank and it needs a little filler and prep work. Should I seal it first or do the prep first?

Is it me, or does he sound winded?
2 hours of shaking a 15 pound gas tank, and crack cocaine.
He might have a clogged artery or two ! Not good
I bust when i seen this

Will this fill the little pin hole I have in my tank?
Yes, a small amount of flash rust is normal and will not affect in any way the adhesion of the Tank Sealer.
Hello, did it work. How is the tank sealer holding now
@@nithinkvijayan2708 it's holding up fine. No issues. Worthy of investment
why did we not see a before image of the inside of the tank ?
Why should you he is just showing how this system works and steps to take
Can this be used on a new tank and if so is it the same process?
The KBS 3-Step Tank Sealer System is absolutely ideal for new tanks. If you leave a new tank uncoated, it will eventually rust leaving you with clogged fuel filters.
A very common misconception with sealing new tanks is that you do not need the KBS Klean and RustBlast. New tanks made of new steel are very slick and not an ideal surface for Tank Sealer to stick, so we always recommend KBS Klean and RustBlast to properly clean and etch the surface of the new tank so the Tank Sealer can bite into the surface and adhere permanently.
This does work very well, but 41 seconds in, you can see that the tank was shiny clean to begin with.
Yes, the KBS 3 Step Tank Sealing System can be used on old rusty tanks and new tanks.
was thinking the same thing .. nice save from KBS here ey .. oh oh it can also be used on a new tank .. wanting everyone to think its an old rusted out tank .. but instead its a new one painted brown to look "old" then scratched up a bit
Son
Nice F 100 grill
Will this product work on a steel coolant expansion tank ? The coating would be exposed to water, and antifreeze.
Yes. Tank Sealer is impervious to water and antifreeze. This is a very common application.
How do you stop the sealer from getting in the female threads for the fuel lines?
It is best to apply some grease to the threads. Tank Sealer will not stick to the threads.
Does it have to be dry before I use the rust remover?
RustBlast needs to be used at full strength and not diluted. So, it is not necessary for the surface to be bone dry, but you do not want so much water still in the tank that the RustBlast gets diluted. Does that help?
@@Kbscoatings-us yes definitely does, it did wonders but will need to do another pass since I accidentally left the tank outside over night and the condensation from the cold made it rust again. For the sealer it does need to be bone dry correct?
@@DrigoElizarraraz Yes, before the Tank Sealer, the inside of the tank must be bone dry.
does it fix small leaks
+Trevor Headtrip "while simultaneously sealing small pinholes and weld seams".
Can the tank be powder coated after sealing it, or will the heat ruin the sealer?
It is best to do the powder coating first. That said, as long as your powder coater keeps the temperature at 400F, that will not harm the Tank Sealer after it has fully cured.
Does this remove sealer that was previously inside tank? Or does it go over the existing sealer?
Yes, it is always best to remove the old sealer first.
Can I leave the rust remover over night ?
You can let the RustBlast soak on a surface overnight.
Question. My "mechanic used some one step crap on my aftermarket peanut tank. right now the gas is evaporating and draining because the sealer he used is dissolving inside the tank and mixing with the gas.
Can I still use this to clean and reseal the tank?

Does your product remove the old sealant in a gas tank?
KBS Strip will remove an old sealant: www.kbs-coatings.com/KBS-Strip.html
Carefully Pour entire contents of can into tank and slowly rotate and roll tank until all sides are evenly coated. Patiently work with it for a minimum of 20 minutes but no longer than 1 hour, periodically checking inside. If an area needs extra attention, prop the tank so that the excess collects on that area. Continue this until the majority of the remaining sealer is loosened and/or removed. After Strip has been allowed to work, pour out & capture into an appropriate metal container for possible reuse. Rinse tank thoroughly with water. If any part of the sealer still remains, repeat steps until old sealant is removed.Rinse tank with water and allow to dry COMPLETELY before using appropriate prep products and Gold Standard Tank Sealer.
where do I get elastic tape?
Duct Tape works really well.
Vinegar will take out rust leave it in for around 2 or 4 days it will take the rust out make it look new inside ..that is what I use...aint nothing work as good as vinegar......
So I put hydrogen peroxide, salt and vinigar on my tank and realized I didn't think to seal it. Will it be ok?
Yes. Clean with KBS Klean, etch with RustBlast and then seal with Tank Sealer.
how do you get the dang bolts out?
We usually use a chain so once you can fish a small segment of the chain out, the rest of the chain will come with it.
Will this work with a carbon fibre fuel tank?
Yes, you can use the 3-Step Tank Sealing System on a carbon fiber tank.
The procedure for sealing a Fiberglass Tank is the same except for a
variance in Step #2 - RustBlast.
For this type of tank, thoroughly wet the fiberglass surface for only 2
minutes using RustBlast. Drain and rinse well with water as directed.
Because you are not prepping metal or dissolving rust, RustBlast may be
saved and re-used for future use. RustBlast will, however, treat the
fiberglass surface by giving it a more acidic pH level & by leaving a
zinc phosphate coating ideal for Sealer adhesion.
Also, it is important to make sure that the tank is completely dry
inside
before sealing. Drying is best accomplished by introducing forced air
into the tank by using a shop vac, blow dryer, or fan. (NOTE: Drying is
a critical step for sealing fiberglass tanks. Fiberglass tends to hold
moisture and if the tank is not dried completely, the Sealer will not
adhere properly.)
IMPORTANT: It is also very critical to methodically
coat the entire fiberglass tank completely & thoroughly with the
Sealer. If any part of the fiberglass surface should accidentally be
left exposed or unsealed, however, these unprotected areas will be very
susceptible to deterioration by alcohol blended fuels and it is
therefore highly recommended that these fuels not be used in fiberglass
tanks even after sealing. After coating the tank, remember to drain well
to avoid pooling and puddles.
Will it seal smal holes??
Yes, pinholes which are the size of the tip of a pin.
You can also get some mesh to use with the Tank Sealer to seal up the outside of the tank in those trouble areas.
How do I keep from damaging the existing outer paint?
You can take some heavy plastic and tape it to the inside of the filler neck and then wrap it around the outside of the tank. Also, take your time and be careful. Most customers who seal up their tanks have a beautiful paint job on the exterior of the tank.
Does the cleaner remove a prior sealer that was used? Previous owner did a pretty crappy job 15 years ago....
What color is the previous sealer?
It's a pale yellow, probably started out white...
KBS Coatings cool, thank you very much. 10/10 customer service
Can I power coat the tank after applying this product?
Yes. Please make sure your powder coater keeps the oven less than 500F.
Hot air on water can cause rust. Doing cool air is better
Wouldnt want to see him jog a marathon
I've seen sealer not properly done. Not a good thing for your bike
How does the tank sealer not clog the pet cock? Im kinda nervous to use this on my tank
