  • We go through a detailed step by step process on using a fuel tank sealer kit.
    Learn from our mistakes!
In this video we use the POR 15 fuel tank sealer kit for our bobber motorcycle tank. The same general process is used for larger tanks, just requires a bigger kit.
We try to give you a detailed video instruction of all involved from, draining, cleaning, etching, and sealing your gas tank, and yes it will even seal pin holes.
There are many other companies that make very similar products, we chose POR because of the great results we have had with there other products.

I've gone through this process several times recently and it's quite tedious. It takes time and care. I'm sure that neighbors are wondering why I've been holding and spinning fuel tanks for hours on end while walking around the yard

I'm having the same thoughts about my neighbors! LOL. Yes, it is tedious when done right, and doing it right can't be rushed. Those who rush it and do if poorly pay the price. I guess that goes for all things automotive. I used copious amounts of muriatic acid, twirling and turning, rinsing and repeating. The POR15 tank sealer should do fine as long as I don't rush the 96 hour curing period.

Tip for anyone else watching, my tank has a port on the bottom with threads on the outside that the tillotson fuel filter screws onto. I drilled a hole into a wine cork and threaded it on to plug that hole. It worked great. My gas caps were vented so i ductaped the hole. A big plug would be ideal but my paint is going to be redone anyway, i wasnt too concerned about damaging the current paint

Thanks a ton for your video. I actually bought a spare tank for my vintage cushman because the previous sealer in my original tank was cracked and failing. It was the white stuff. I started with the degreaser on that one and it didnt touch the old sealer so i put a gallon of acetone in it overnight. That disolved it. Then i went to the degreaser. For the spare tank, it was dirty inside. I started with white vinegar and some nuts for aggregate and shook it all about. Then i moved onto the degreaser. Poured the metal prep from one tank to the other after soaking all sides and then drained it back into the og bottle when both tanks were done. Both are now rinsed and bone dry ready to do the paint step in the morning.
Im really glad i had a heat gun, as the shape of my tank leaves some liquid in there.
Anyway, thanks for the step by step. Both these tanks needed it. Surprisingly, the less rusty one is more solid than the other one that had a pinhole. I kept losing any gas i put in overnight.

I am compelled to wonder, is there any value in masking off the gas cap to prevent the product from interfering with the dynamics of a ventilated/breathing gas cap? Maybe use a sacrificial gas cap for the application process? Anyway, this was a well done and useful tutorial and the gratitude is flowing! Thank You, Brother!

I'm wanting to use it on a 1957 moped. I'm fearful that the material will reduce the inner diameter of my petcock so that I want be able to get the petcock and it's stems back in the tank. The untreated inner diameter is probably about 1/2". What are your thoughts?

Do I have a bad tank?? Because my arms are tired as hell and I've only finished step one. Still drying it air compressor yada yada yada. I really wish I could show you a picture. Or to FaceTime 💜💜💜. I have done a lot of painting in my time, but this is the first time I've ever done the inside of a tank!! Not sure putting it out in the sun is the best way to go. I'd just leave it in the garage and wait the 4 days. Beware, when you think you've drained it all, there's still more to get out. If you think you're done and leave it sitting at a slight angle, you'll come back to find some POR pooled up in the tank, which isn't good. Set it in a position where the excess will spread out and not pool in a crevice.

    • @FlippinCustomized

if the fuel tank takes a hard hit, it can damage the insulating layer(sealer layer), which can lead to other damage to the carburetor?
