98% might be a bit harsh. I've worked around auto Technicians and most are honest people wanting to make the right repair at the right time. I will say that there is a small number of Techs that just don't know what they are doing and will get run off from honest shops pretty quickly.
Hey Daniel, One of the cooler things that you are showing that the Car Wizard doesn't is the actual mechanic work that goes into the repair. I think it's something that the wizard is missing in his videos and you are doing a great job showing your work. Great job. Show your mistakes as well as your successes, you'll find more people relate to mistakes than success. Show how you learned from the mistake and you'll go a long way!
The fact that the wizard lets you film in his shop is really nice and proves how much he trust and appreciates you. I enjoy watching his channel for the cat advice but yours goes into detail. It’s a ying and Yang situation.
The fact that you shared your mistake puts you so far up in my opinion dude. You are a gentleman and not scared to admit mistake. You have done a great job with the Audi! Really enjoyed the video - and you’re already getting comfortable in front of the camera!
Daniel, I've seen you on the Wizards channel. Tonight I decided to take a look at your videos. I like the detailed description and explanation of what you're doing and why while working on cars. I'm not a mechanic, I'm a retired nurse of all things, but I like cars, what makes them go, and not go. I've learned a lot from the Wizards videos. The more you learn the better as far as I'm concerned. Sure helps me to have an understanding of what's going on with my vehicles when I talk to my mechanic. I subscribed to your channel just now and looking forward to more videos from you.
Maybe one more video to summarize and include those other minor repairs would close out this Audi repair. What a journey and a ton of information to bring this from the scrap heap back to a decent running vehicle.
Well done Daniel-San! Enjoy your attention to detail and the fact you just fessed up to an issue and then fixed it. This car deserves to be back on the road. | Hope you made enough on the deal. Win for all
Hey Daniel San, great video!!! It's no surprise to see your channel growing, you have good content, you're humble & you admit it when you make a mistake, thats refreshing to see, you're human, like the rest of us!!! Keep up the great work!!! 👍👍🙂
You’re doing great man. Audio issues happen. No problem could still hear you. Videos about finishing this car is a + Keep up the good work, all the best from the Netherlands.
Great video! We all make mistakes, it happens, specially when we are tired. It's not easy to work an entire day and then work more hours to do a video.. Great content, keep it coming! One thing that perhaps you can explain better next time would be the cam placement. You explained it for the pistons, and showed how to measure. The cams was just dropping them in with no further explanation on what position they should be in or any marks to align them with . IMO it could be more detailed there. Other than that, great video. Perhaps we get lucky when you do the 456 ? 😁
Good to see you found what was causing a problem. Another thing I noticed you didn't do is with the exhaust cam. You can not simply just plop the exhaust cam and call it a day as this car has solenoids which deploy and can change the cam timing for each respective cylinder called Audi Valve Lift System (AVS). You have to slide certain sections of the cam before putting the cam cover on, which has integrated journals. You may have damaged the journal mating surface on the head. NaptownTuner, an Audi master tech who now is an independent mechanic specializing on the 2.0Ts and has rebuilt well over 200 of these engines for oil burning by swapping updated pistons, shows how to do it in this video, timestamp 4:23 - th-cam.com/video/k2e_3yqmvYY/w-d-xo.html you can also learn about AVS by searching "EA888 Gen 2 Self-Study Guide" on Google, beginning on Page 4 of the PDF when going by the page # in the bottom left and right.
@@daniel-san464 Ah awesome! I guess you cut that part of the video out, just wanted to double check since this 2.0T can be quite finicky but easy to work on. NaptownTuner is amazing with the 2.0T, glad you were able to find him! Nice work you did! This 2.0T should be good for at least another 130k+ miles before needing another timing chain, though reports say that the updated chain link design should last a lot longer. If its got updated pistons so it doesn't burn oil the 2.0T is actually pretty good.
Admire that you mention the mistake ordering and fitting it. But please tell us how you ordered the wrong one and what the significance of the wrong part was ? Too long/short ? The color of the links is just cosmetic.WHat code did you get?

Hey Daniel-San sh1t happens. Very honest to admit to making a mistake; as I learned when starting work many decades ago, the person who has never made a mistake has never done anything.
Daniel-San, you need to fix the blue 4 door that's been on the lift behind every Wizard video forever. The car is too broken for Wizard to fix. Please drop it off the lift and get it running for your boss. He's too afraid to ask for your expert help.
The incorrect chain was probably longer which would cause the engine to have the same issues as it had before from a stretched timing chain. A longer chain will cause the valve timing to be wrong causing a check engine light to come on.
Did you finish tapping off the hardened crud from the scalloped pistons? If not then won't the problem recur? Why not remove and replace or properly clean the pistons?
WELL done young man you showing your mistake may help someone from making the same sort of thing always check new parts ,sometimes wrong parts in the boxes happened to me a number of times ,
In the 52 years that I’ve been working on cars, and taking cars to mechanics, I’ve only had *one* mechanic admit he was wrong and that made a mistake, and that’s out of dozens of mechanics across three states. Kind of what Car Wizard was saying: 85% of all mechanics are incompetent or dishonest.
Nice! Thanks for the video came from wizards channel but I also recently bought a salvage '12 Q5 except with the 7.3. Still waiting for paperwork to go through but excited to get my hands into it. Just a busted rad fortunately (hopefully) I heard it run and she sounds good so crossing my fingers for the timing chain. I for one would be interested in more q5 bonus vids but I'm bias lol. Are you able to disclose what you sold it for? Mines at 90k and similar condition =]
Nice work, I recently purchased a 1989 ford thunderbird sc with 50,000K (30000miles)I am in Canada, very clean but no service history. Vacuum lines are an issue so far. Any idea how much a should pay to have all replaced. Any ideas as to what I should replace proactively? Thanks
Did the wrong chain have a different number of links? How did the computer know there was a timing issue? Was the timing slightly off? I can't get my head around it. If the slack is taken up with the guides I can't see how it was picked up by the system.. But then I'm not the Wizard or Daniel San.
Can you explain more about the difference in the chains other than the colored links? Was the spacing wrong between the links? How was the wrong one ordered?
I ordered a timing chain for a Audi A3. The marked links are set differently for that engine. I made a mistake filtering results when I was looking for it and did not read the description before ordering it.
PS Telling everyone you made a fairly big error was a great thing to do. No running away. excellent. I tried counting the links but there wasn't a frame where it was clear. I think the new one had 85 links and likely the other had something near that, but I'm not sure it matters as long as everything is aligned and the links fit the teeth properly. Did the correct chain have a magnet on it? Or some sensor tripping material or device? A hole? what was it?
