Loving the FERRARI content Daniel , and it’s also fantastic to see how excited you get when you’re working on a Ferrari as well ! You’re very carful when wrenching on it and I like that it takes so much patience!! Great job! Keep the videos coming 👍🏻
Seeing you unplug those spark plug wires, man, only now I understand what the Wizard was saying about taking it SLOOOOOW with rare and expensive cars. Very nice! Funny thing is I have the same spark wires clips on my Alfa and yes they are broken 😂
speed handle's are cool. i had one i used when i started fixing motorcycles in my teenage years ( 11 - 19 years old ) in the early 70's in a small town in north ga. the local kawasaki shop owner had a son my age . they treated me like family , and taught me whatever i needed to know. a very small town i didnt see air tools till late 70's. the speed handle was my friend too . im 63 now . thanx for reminding me . keep up the good work .....T H A N X
Epic!! Thanks for the heads up about the podcast. LOVE your ferrari content! I was lucky enough to pick up my dream car (gated 360 modena) a few years ago and can’t get enough of your channel! 🎉😊
g`day daniel-san ...hoovie is lucky to have you work on his cars you can see you have great talent and care for your work and really know your stuff great video daniel-san ... whatever they are paying ya... your worth double mate
The valve clearance adjustment methoid is identical to the Lampredi designed Fiat/Lancia single and twin over head cam engines. Done it many times, but my factory bucket locking tool was double sided, so it couldn't slip off and could actually be used to depress the bucket in the first place. It was better to lever it down, as the tool could wear quite fast used that way. I don't know if Ferrari were the same, but Fiat deleted all the half increment shims and you'd be hitting the tolerance limits, rather than being somewhere in the middle. Volvo shims were the same diameter and available in a much wide range of thicknesses. You could even get ones thick enough to cope with reground cams.
On the early Alfa Twin Cam engine if a cam shim is out of spec you have to remove the cam to change it. Luckily these are only 4 cylinder two valve engines.

When placing the spark plug wires back into their plastic holders try spraying a bit of silicone into each mouth. This will reduce the friction and hopefully minimize the potential for breakage.
Hey Daniel, my memory is terrible, what are you doing to the engine, is it a refresh or something more? With spark plugs wires just dab a little silicon and they’ll slip right in. Enjoyed the episode, Aussie fan🇦🇺👍
When you reassemble the motor - and the plug wires go back in - can't you use a light-application of silicone to assist putting them back in the guides?
Many years ago on my Kawasaki Z1, I would check valve clearances on my bike the same way. However, the Kawasaki shims were 2 or 3 times more expensive than exactly the same shims from the Yamaha dealer. So off to the Yamaha dealer I would go with the dimensions I needed for shims. I would then fit "Yamaha" shims into the Kawi saving a few bucks. The Yamaha shims had exactly the same markings, and were identical to the Kawasaki shims; couldn't tell a difference.
That's very interesting. I thought they were shim under bucket like Japanese sport bikes but no, the bucket itself is the shim in this design, basically.
Seeing you remove that exhaust valve shim triggered my PTSD lol! I am glad to know that I am not the only person that hates that hook tool. It at least looks a lot easier to use on the flat 12 out of the car, than it was on the front bank of my 308 with the engine in the car. Major pain of a job, but definitely something people seem to neglect, and it makes me wonder if poorly adjusted valves was a reason for a lot of failures of the old Na filled exhaust valves over the years. Another great video though, and great work!
Looking at Davids charger, I can’t help but wonder if dodge fixed the oiling issues on the 6.4 hemis 😬 I want one but the lifter and cam issues scare me. On topic I think that might be the first horizontal 12 I’ve ever seen, very cool!
Don't watch Electric Classic Cars channel, they ripped out numerous Testarossa's engines and drive trains and replaced them with 🤢🤢🤮🤮Tesla electric motors! I can't believe the owners want to do this to one of the most iconic super cars of the 90's.
Start showing yourself pulling the engine out . That is what we want to see not a engine on a stand . Anybody could have removed the engine . show the process do some time lapse.
Make sure to check out The Prancing Horse!!!

As a Testarossa owner this series is absolutely great.
Keep up the detail please.

Great video. And I feel clever when I work on my Porsche flat 6 engine...... thank god for adjustable rockers.

I think it's a low use engine with not too many heat cycles....
TIL...I had no idea that shims could be changed without removing the camshaft. That's actually pretty slick!
Man when I heard about valve adjustments I had no idea it was THAT complex and detailed. Crazy! But also mesmerizing. Great stuff! Thank you!
You did a great job with the visuals and explaining the process. Definately something you want to do with 100% concentration.

No big deal as long as the engine was set at TDC before removing the cans. Then the new shims had to be checked again.
Loved seeing the bucket and shim adjustment after hearing about it for years!
Really like the amount of detail you’ve gone into with this plus the simple explanations - well done. If I ever get a Testarossa, I’m sorted 😂😂
Good on ya for having a speed wrench. That is what I use for such jobs.
Last time I worked on valve shims it was on a Fiat x19.
I have no idea how you remember what goes back where!
He just watches his youtube videos backwards if he forgets.
Thank you Daniel
Still enjoying this series! Great video! Can’t wait for the next.

Great video! Look for the Fiat locking tool. It should work. The TR engine used the same shims and buckets as the Fiat engines of the time.

Been hanging for a good engine out video series on a TR!! I’ll be following very closely.
Great work.
Cheers

It is like watching a surgeon at work. So glad that I'm not playing for the service ;-)
Excellent wrenching video and great geek content!
Just like the valves on a 13 crf450r
A few seconds with a heat gun should soften up those clips just enough to help keep them from breaking - maybe.

thanks for posting these! Carter take notes...

a time consuming, but not overly complex process

4 shocks and springs in the rear?
Lamborghini uses the same design in a few of their models as well
Nice work, unique car and great interesting content carefully explained, definitely keep it comming
Re: Plug wire clips. Can you find someone with a 3-D printer to print you out a few sets of these, made with better quality plastic?
great
You da man
On a flat 12 wouldn't you be actually looking for side dead center??😊😂
Thanks, i would never get a chance to see this other wise. I now have a better understanding of why it costs so much to have done.
How does a valve clearance go from OK to too tight? Seems counter intuitive on a wear item.

I think it is the only one in a street car.
Update coming soon?
"That other project..." could it be the upcoming Gas monkey garage project? (installation of a testarossa engine in a VW bus)
Wait!! What??? I have to check that out!!
Alright y’all. Make room for another chair. I wanna hang out too. Alright Daniel-San. Go.
👍👍
Ferrari with a Champion plug? That wasn't oem right?
It's great to see you making progress. But I am sure you will measure the shims and not just go by the label, correct?
He does mention that he needs to measure the shims as they can wear…👍🏼
@@baasbowing
Thank you. I missed that. I always have to do that with my Alfa Romeo shims also.
nobody 3d printing those clips out of sla cf nylon or something? doesn't look like a complicated design if you gave scans to someone
That's definitely the way to go with all these brittle-by-years unique plastics on these various youngtimer cars
