I’m no expert, but there’s not too much between the two as far as I can see. Especially given the fact that the other is twice the price. I have a question though, why do you end up fitting new cylinder heads instead of refurbished ones? Maybe you can do a video showing why you end up using new heads??
looks like the chineese one is built to a newer rev level. The newer rev has the inset washers and you use the trilpe square head bolts. The older rev does not have the inset washers and you use the polybolts with the accompanying washers. interesting about the check valve. Its a nightmare when that goes bad as the whole head has to come off, i cant imagine you can go without it though as i think it was an attempt to avoid tensioner rattle on startup due to drain back . Thoughts ?
I ordered a amc head couple months ago and it won't pass leak down for cylinder 3 (without camshaft on, all other cylinder are good). Leaking from the exhaust valve. Not sure if i should put back together lol
Pull the spring and Lap that valve in for a better seal. If you are assembling a head you should be hand lapping all the valves. Good thing you did the leak down test.
Sharp edges on castings create stress risers and potential crack points. Actually the rounded edges would make your cam journals stronger, and probably reduce some friction.
For the intake runners... you don't want them smooth because it creates a boundary air layer with the dimples, that helps flow. On fuel injected cars it helps keep the fuel from sticking to the walls. That said, the cheap one doesn't look too bad to be honest.
@NaptownTuner would love if you could do a vid on vacuum pump replacement. My 05/2011 A4 2.0tfsi has chronic oil leakage out the bottom of mine along with what looks like a stripped mounting bolt from an old crappy repair job.

you're just a shitty American who plays a video from another shitty American and believes everything like it's the words of god. I have this Chinese head that has 80,000 kilometers since the go engine and no problems!!! You are biased and looking for problems!!!
I have always been a bit skeptical about ever buying any car parts from China or for that matter anything short of OEM parts.. so I do have a question? In order to meet a parts component number like how Audi have xxx xxx xxx part numbers aren’t aftermarket manf required to meet machine tolerances ? Nap you really make the point that you do indeed get what you pay for. That’s not to say that cheaper head wouldn’t work well and it’s possible you could get 150k mi out of it. But a head is quite the job it’s not like an alternator.. I will never opt for a part this critical that didn’t undergo a solid inspection criteria.. I’ve had blown timing belts and had damaged many heads but always just had them milled by machine shops from people I trusted or I did them myself.. excellent video nothing like TFSi heads on you bed.. 👍🏻

How is it possible to truly rebuild these heads without cam bearings ? I'm a tool and die maker , have been for 30 years . The only way to to do correctly is to mill material off cylinder head and cover . Then line bore cam journals back to finish ID . From what I see on my own cbfa heads , there is not enough material for such a line bore operation to leave you with freshly cleaned up cam journals . Especially if any of your cam journals have scoring !
Hey Naptwon (non-related question for ya) what's the best OE ko3 turbocharger? the wastewater mine went out. Due to living in Cali I can't get a ko4 well I can but would have to remove it when I go in for smog so for now I just want a ko3 what do you recommend?
