I just bought this watch, and I'm psyched it's got a sapphire crystal face. I want to wear it at work and I can't be arsed with wrapping my wrist in cotton wool to prevent it from being scratched. It looks awesome and is very low maintenance! No battery, no need to change time once set (I hope, anyway..). Very happy with it.
I've had one of these for a good 6 months now, I love it. I've been beating this thing up pretty bad and it's held up remarkably well. I will say some of the gold has rubbed off on the band, which is to be expected, but other than that it doesn't have a scratch on it.
Has never happened to me. It goes in spare-mode quite some times a day, but has never ever had problems with it. Had it for over 6 months now. I love it!
Amazing that this model is 9 years old and Citizen still makes them, unaltered from the original. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I like how this one has the extra tech yet still looks smooth and simplistic. I have a silver one with gold accents like this one and it’s a watch I hold to the highest degree.
lol, you thought it "knew" what timezone you were in and moved the hand there automatically? It's not a smart phone, that just lets you change timezones quickly as the hands automatically move to the correct time. You can also turn DST on or off for each time zone. This is awesome if your in IT and have servers running on UTC. Can set to London time and disable DST and you can switch to UTC in a flash.
I bought this very same watch today after going through two Seiko Kinetics of similar price. Both Seiko's lasting 2.5 & 3 Years! Citizen offered 5 Years which sold me alone! The features on this watch are awesome!! Go to Citizen's web site and they offer a very nice video on settings for this Model AT4004-52E
After 6 Months of use, I still feel that I made a great choice! It stands to to my every day use. The crystal face is incredible! Not a scratch seen yet unlike my past Seiko Kinetics.
I live in Sydney, Australia and the watch works fine. You need to set the correct date and time for London(LON) then set your local time in A-TM zone. Finally you turn the zone to A-TM (Alternate time mode).
Okay, 2 month update. I love this watch. It look's the dog's bollocks and the timekeeping is incredible. It is perfectly in sync with the cable box every day and, crucially, I've clumsily banged it a few times - and it still looks fresh out of the box. Buy this watch - you will love it.
the watch doesn't know where you are!...you have to move the timezones manually, so it can correct the reference time to the correct timezone. On a not listed timezone you use the A-TM mode and correct the time manually, but there is no atomic function in this mode.
@QuickQuips The movements may very well be quite similar. I would say that lots of non-Signature collection pieces are quickly adopting features from that collection.
I don't like these thick watches but the technology is interesting. How about the long-term usage, can you tell me your experience? Does the watch stop working eventually? Do you have to put it in light extra?
Nice to see the print review up. I'd love to see a comparison of this to the Signature Grand Complication, which seems to be nearly identical (besides the 24 hour hand) and features a two-toned titanium gold version too.
I am selling mine to fund another purchase, and I’ll probably end up selling that one eventually too. Impulse gets the better of me. It’s in mint condition with all the bells & whistles and I still have the receipt from Kay Jewelers if anyone is interested in getting a practically brand new one purchased less than 1 month ago from an AD at a discount. I have learned - somewhat! - to NEVER wear it out of the store. With most standard jewelry store return policies, at least with reference to watches, the sizing and wearing it out upon purchase will get you every time.
@911zippy Comes in SS (a few colour options including a standard chrome look AT4008-51E and the blacked out version I have AT4007-54E) and Titanium (AT4010-50E).
I'm looking at getting this great time piece in my collection. Do you own this Citizen? How is the glow on this bad boy???? Please get back to me when you receive this comment. Thank You.
Citizen has been improving the appearance of its watches but the "golden" arches around the subdials in this one look cheaper tan hell...old japanese one dollar gadget type....
I have this watch and it is great. The charge on it will last up to 6 months if you have it put away from any light source. I purchased mine through zales jewelry for $350.
have had that watch for about 1 year and no bro i have no complaints about it so far.. i mean non.. the watch works perfectly and can stay in the dark for about 6 months and when u take it out it will charge with any light source isnt that amazing?.. not to mention zapphire crystal.. tottaly worth my money!!
Hi Have a question, I bought this watch for my dad that lives in Venezuela. Time zone there is UTC - 0430, so the question is how to set up half an hour less that NYC time on this watch?? thx
hi, what is the size of your wrist? Because my wrist is 160mm = 6.3", and I don't know whether it fits or not. Can you give me the size of the watch? Thanks
Dude, KNOW what your talking - BEFORE you talk. The Citizens Eco-Drive does NOT set the time zone or change the time zone that is why the lower plunger does it and then it sends RADIO signal to the Atomic Clock in that time zone. Please KNOW what your saying - but who expects Californians to know that much.
Hello, I bought the same watch from US but, when i came back in Europe/Bulgaria the watch is not working at all. Sometimes the watch is trying to start but is jumping 2 sec, not second by second. I do not know what to to do, if somebody knows please HELP ME> :( 10x
I own the titanium version of this watch and I have to say it's an amazing watch. for the guy on the video FYI the LAX,DEN,CHI,NYC AND LON don't mean it's the time for only those cities DUH they are time zones so any city in that specific time zone will be on that time zone example I live in Houston TX in order for me to get the right time I have to be on the CHI time zone. for anyone thinking to buy this watch don't think twice about it I recommend the titanium version it's so light weight on the wrist, it retails for $750 but I got it for half off at jomashop.com hope this was helpful :)
Indalecio Mendez No, not helpful at all. You can be in the same Timezone as those cities but be in the Southern Hemisphere and not receive the signal. DUH!
The USA gets the ass end of everything I love. Cars, watches, Parker Pens, vehicles, and a few other things. I want so many euro vehicles but.... sadly they're too much to import.
I have the very same watch and I've had mine for about 3 years and the second hand has been moving every two seconds and it has been sitting on my window sill for a week. I may have to send it back. If they want a lot of money to fix it I probably won't do it. This watch has always been problematic for me. Hardly kept the right time or date. When the time would set it was always 1 hour behind, no matter what time of year. Would not purchase or recommend an ECO- drive. Take care everybody.
My eco watch it the same. It really sucks. It's never accurate it won't keep day correct. I've constantly have to manually adjust it. It doesn't matter if I leave it in window. I bought a signal amplifier. Doesn't change anything. This watch is awful and way over priced. Not happy at all. I'll go back to the simple wind up. Or just look at my damn cell phone to see what time it is

I got this as a Christmas gift, still wear it today 12 years later
Love it or leave it?
It's fecking beautiful...!

You set the time zone yourself and the watch changes in relation to the zone that you have selected. Not the other way around.
Has never happened to me. It goes in spare-mode quite some times a day, but has never ever had problems with it. Had it for over 6 months now. I love it!

I wonder how much this used to retail for 9 years ago, any ideas?

If you register the watch on their website they add another year to the warranty

And thanks Andy! I always register my products. Great Point indeed!
Lloyd Edmonds thanks for the update
12 years later I still have this bad boy on my wrist and I will give it to my son when he's 21 the same age I was when I bought it.
I live in Sydney, Australia and the watch works fine. You need to set the correct date and time for London(LON) then set your local time in A-TM zone. Finally you turn the zone to A-TM (Alternate time mode).
Date always changes on "Atomic" radio correction. On some few, older models the "summer" or "daylight savings" time must be manually set.
Okay, 2 month update.
I love this watch. It look's the dog's bollocks and the timekeeping is incredible.

When it jumps 2 sec at a time, it's a indicator you have LOW battery. Charge it by a light or sun if possible, hope this helps!
Lovely looking watch! Am really getting into these atomic watches.
Had this for six years never take it off still perfect
I just bought the latest version and watch is good but only one negative is that watchband is very easy to scratch
I have mine the same...is an excellent watch.....is £470.00 here in London now days.
i just bought this watch. but the one with the leather band. it looks like a very practical watch
I love the Eco-Drives!
@QuickQuips The movements may very well be quite similar. I would say that lots of non-Signature collection pieces are quickly adopting features from that collection.

You can manually set the time and calendar manually.
Nice to see the print review up. I'd love to see a comparison of this to the Signature Grand Complication, which seems to be nearly identical (besides the 24 hour hand) and features a two-toned titanium gold version too.
@aBlogtoRead I wouldn't be surprised. Perhaps it's more about fit and finish.
There are some sick deals for this watch on ebay
great watch bought one myself...........
I am selling mine to fund another purchase, and I’ll probably end up selling that one eventually too. Impulse gets the better of me. awsome watch
@911zippy Comes in SS (a few colour options including a standard chrome look AT4008-51E and the blacked out version I have AT4007-54E) and Titanium (AT4010-50E).
There is only one atomic clock in the USA located in Fort Collins.
Boulder CO
The week handle on mine is off the mark quite a bit. Any advice on how to fix it please anyone?
muy difícil de sincronizar una lástima hermoso relij
I am starting to worry about mine, it has been sunbathing for like 5 days straight and it has not gone to high battery yet.
I'm looking at getting this great time piece in my collection. Do you own this Citizen? How is the glow on this bad boy???? Please get back to me when you receive this comment. Thank You.
The lume lights up like
A torch
Fine job.
Citizen has been improving the appearance of its watches but the "golden" arches around the subdials in this one look cheaper tan hell...old japanese one dollar gadget type....
In review you show how all the functions work
Great thank you i see you video and i go and get one to my self
I have this watch and it is great. The charge on it will last up to 6 months if you have it put away from any light source. I purchased mine through zales jewelry for $350.

@mustang8582 Yea, it is a good one enjoy it.
Preciso Intrusão em português Brasil. 👍
Don't compare Seiko to citizen. Seiko is no where near.
Sb Sb
You’re right, Seiko is much better.
Get a Grand Seiko Spring Drive.
Yeah those grand seiko’s are junk.

Patek's famous for their Quartz watches. :D
You get a "little" more there for your money than just the name.

How much is this watch worth???
Lil Bibby like 4 or 5 hunnit
if you gunna charge for cheap then hit me up
It's valued at $675 Cdn but usually sold at lower on online shopping stores. Can go as low as $510.

even though the ecodrive technology is very very impressive, id much rather plonk down the money for a mechanical
and watch the type number most important
i mean whats
i searched i think its the AT4004-52E
My right ear feels lonely
This such an inaccurate review. You should have at least read some of the manual rather than just BS your way thru it.
580.00
first 30 seconds of the video man ....
Count how many "ummm' are in this video. I lost count after 5 minutes, ......

Poor review
Citizen shit watches based on my experience
