    Thank you for this detailed video. I used this video to put in the modified shift cable, transmission bracket and shift bracket on transmission (where shift link connects to)- all genuine 2011 porsche cayman parts. This was an excellent step by step video. Anyone thinking of doing this, I would highly recommend going with Numeric, even the modified cable from porsche sucks as it's held on by the plastic clips like the original which promptly slides off after a 100 miles, good thing I checked, tried it on the old bracket and it was sliding off too. So ended up drilling a few holes in the trans mount bracket and tying it with stainless steel safety cable.

      Thank you for the great feedback and extra tips for other viewers. I agree that if you’re going to do the work to put in new cables, just try to spend the extra money and put in Numeric. They are very well built with high quality parts and super sturdy. Plus, the feel of the cables is bar none. Really appreciate your comment and insight for other builders🤟🏻🔥

    Thanks guys for posting. Definitely help for when I did mine. To help out with the job I removed the PAX seat. I did start the car without the electrical cable attached so ended up setting off the airbag light you mentioned. I was able to reset with my Foxwell OBD tool

      Glad we could help! Ya, I’m convinced now you have to have an OBD if you’re going to work on your own car. It’s a life savor and worth every penny. Ours is a durametric designed for Porsche. We’ve saved so much money with it that it’s pretty much paid for itself and then some! Thank you for watching and commenting!

    I not a big car fix-it guy but I just changed out for a Numeric shifter and cables, 3 hours to take everything apart and 4 to put everything back. the most difficult part was the driver side connection on the transmission, it's just hard to see and get to. Incredibly helpful video guys! Thanks so much. One word of advice: At 9:00 removing of the side black panels is discussed. If you tilt the bottom of the panels out first or too far you may crack one of the 3 plastic support tabs. The path of removal should really be straight back toward the rear of the car. Of the 3 tabs the top ones (as seen at 8:50) do like to hang up. I was able to use a plastic trim tool to help pry out the right and left panels as I pulled backward. Thanks again.

    I finished this project today on my own and I owe it to this video and your help Michael
    A minor hiccup I ran into was with reinstalling my handbrake. I made the mistake of not engaging the handbrake before disassembling everything so reattaching the ebrake cable was difficult because I didn’t have much slack in the lines to be able to move the assembly forward enough into its correct position. If anyone runs into this, just depress the handbrake as far down as possible and this will relieve any tension in the spring and will allow you to get enough reach from the ebrake cables to be able to slide the handbrake assembly forward enough to its mounting point

    most importantly, this is a cayman with the BOSE stereo option. that is why the passenger's side footwell contains a huge BOSE sub-woofer unit that needs to be removed in order to expose a screw or two. i suspect that if the BOSE option is not present the screws may be exposed earlier in the process.
    it should be noted that if the top most hole in the shift rod is used (shortest shifting position) cutting the carpet may not be necessary. it wasn't on my cayman (2007 2.7l) base model.
    those two metal clips that they popped out and involved makeshift usage of the torx bit and a magnet? well, they will become exposed as a matter of course if the front of the console is disassembled first. it will become evident when removing the long u-shaped metal trim (it's acutally two pieces) strip that blocks the shifter surround piece that covers them. evident upon re-assembly. IOW, start at the front, under the dash and work backwards (for the most part) from the way the video portrays dis-assembly.
    ya, it works the way it's shown, afterall that's how i did it... :)

    Finally was able to install this, it sure if I did it right but 1st and 3rd is a long throw but 5th is really short. Have you noticed it?

    • @norcal9874
      @norcal9874  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, when I was first getting the shifter dialed in. I had to make the adjustment where the linkage connects to the shifter. Go to 28:45 in the video. You might need to move your shifter position a little bit. I know it’s a pain in the butt to get back in there, but I think that might be your culprit. I mention the long throw when I first put it in at 30:10.

  • @sivasuss
    @sivasuss 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome video, i watched it like 10 times. I just received my package few weeks ago and opened the box today and noticed one of the linkage stud on the transmission side is slightly bent. Is thay intentional? I messaged Numeric asking the same question and i thought i will check with you guys too. Also, how do you know which cables goes on driver side and passenger side? Thank you again for the awesome video.

    • @norcal9874
      @norcal9874  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the great compliment! Transmission linkage: I’m a little confused by what linkage you are referring too. is the shifter linkage bent or the linkage that’s connected to the transmission itself. if it’s the transmission itself, I think i recall a slight bend in the transmission linkage. Possibly normal. Only way to find out is installing the cables i guess. 😂. Cable Length: I believe the shorter cable goes on the passenger side because it will be a shorter distance from the shifter to the transmission linkage. If it’s not. no big deal, just swap them around. Just make sure you replace each cable to the correct side of the shifter linkage and correct side of transmission. i hope this helps, if not, just message me back on here or our DM us on our Instagram account: norcal987. cheers! 🤟🏻🔥

    Hi there, I've got a Cayman R I am in UK and just bought the short shift kit- i've had all sorts of issues with getting them to UK but finally they're being shipped out today BUT- they tell me that they can't find the wrench - i've asked D Wray who mentions your video too in his but both of you talk about the wrench i just wondered if I absolutely had to try and find a wrench to use on this elsewhere like a bike shop or something I could maybe find one. Do you know the wrench size ? Any help would be amazing!

    Just fitted my shifter and cables, having a problem with second gear really sticky.

    • @norcal9874
      @norcal9874  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      could be a couple things: 1)Check nut adjustment on transmission linkage (26:02). 2)You might need to adjust the shifter length on the cables (28:54). 3)Or there could be some extra tension or something pushing on the cable when routing your cables. ie: going around the bend from the top of your engine, down to the transmission. I would check for this first. Beyond that, you might give Numeric a call. They are super helpful.

    • @eddybooth1
      @eddybooth1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trying the re route option, or new brackets, still not good on the second gear
      Not engaging properly
      Don’t want to strip the synchromesh.

  • @RamVennam

    • @norcal9874
