Thanks so much for the tip. It worked for me. Mine is a boxster 987.2. Key in and hold the car open button. The red light next to the button keeps flashing for about 30 secs then stops. Then the remote works perfectly again.

Thanks for this great solution which worked a treat. I did not see it on any other Porsche forum, I kept the 'lock' button depressed for more than 30 seconds and it was only when. I took the key out that I got the beep. But it worked. Job done!

Do you have semisolid transaxle (2) and engine (1) mounts in your Cayman? If not, I recommend installing them. The cables are long in the Cayman vs 911 and I see that as part of the problem, but you may already know that. I used WEVO mounts for the transaxle and F1 urethane infills for the engine mount and big difference in feel, but more is needed; Numeric is most likely the answer.

Great video! I had a local Bay Area shop install the Numeric shifter and cables in my 2007 987 S. I love the feel of every shift! I was really surprised at the sloppiness of the stock shifter. It felt like it would be easy to land in 2nd instead of 4th. Definitely the highest priority mod in my opinion.

Either I'm Mister Lucky for a change or it may be Porsche changed something with the 2nd gen cars, I have a 2010 Cayman S. About a year ago the key FOB battery had it's died on date come up and I changed the batteries in both keys and they just worked fine. Would be interesting to know if this just goes on with 1st gen or I'm Mister Lucky; this time anyway .

2008 987 Cayman. Battery change then no key remote operations. Key in, Ignition remains OFF, hold down car open button on the fob, yes can take up to 30 seconds. No beep, horn or visual but it does prog the keys. Thank you for the superb video post as it would be shooting in the dark without it !

Are you saying that if there IS vacuum on the oil cap the AOS has failed or if the AOS is functioning correctly there should be vacuum on the oil cap?

Thank you so much for the tip! It has been a life saver on my Cayman. Worked the magic in under 2 minutes after the service centre and dealership said I need to book in, get it checked and possibly needed a replacement etc. Thank you so much again for saving me from this frustration :)

Hi, I recently bought my first car and it is a Porsche Boxter 986 (2002). I did a huge amount of work with my own hands, restored all the plastic in the interior, cleaned the radiators, repaired the cooling system and much more... but unfortunately, after replacing the battery in the car and after replacing the battery in the electronic key, the car stopped responding to the electronic key.( (the light comes on when pressed and the battery has already been replaced twice, perhaps you know how to make the car see the electronic key again?

I recently bought a used Cayman. Came with two keys, but one has all the electronics missing. So... if I bought any old Cayman key and moved the electronics to the one I have, could this procedure program the car to the new key?

Thanks!!! I looked for more than 1,5 hrs on the internet for a solution and yours did the trick. I have a Cayman from 2007. Only I didn't hear any claxon but only a beep-beep sound. I had to try it twice holding the button for like 30 seconds and the second time it worked :)

Mine is on the way for my 06 S. It's funny when I had the transaxle out to put a IMS oiler in I thought the cables would be a PITA. But I can't wait to feel crisp shifts

Thank you for this detailed video. I used this video to put in the modified shift cable, transmission bracket and shift bracket on transmission (where shift link connects to)- all genuine 2011 porsche cayman parts. This was an excellent step by step video. Anyone thinking of doing this, I would highly recommend going with Numeric, even the modified cable from porsche sucks as it's held on by the plastic clips like the original which promptly slides off after a 100 miles, good thing I checked, tried it on the old bracket and it was sliding off too. So ended up drilling a few holes in the trans mount bracket and tying it with stainless steel safety cable.

Looks and sounds sooo good now! Do headers pass CA smog? Thinking of doing the same..

Brilliant! I'd been fighting with my local dealer. They kept telling me there was something wrong with the Fob (it worked fine when it went IN for the service, but not when it came out). Thanks for doing this!

Hi, I just bought a 2009 C4S, came with 1 aftermarket key(no buttons on it-just plane key with a chip in it) it opens the door and start the car,but I want to get the original with the 3 buttons key fob. If I order a new one from the dealer-can I program it to the car this way? (I have a spare key blade to put in the new fob)

Hi, thank you for your invaluable help. The key is programmed by inserting the key without turning it and pressing the button for about 8 seconds. Of many videos on youtube, you have been the most useful. Thanks again and greetings from Rome

I watched this video a couple years ago and then bought and installed the Numeric shifter and cables in my 2016 Cayman S. The improvement is night and day. The shifter is so precise and the feedback is extraordinary. You are correct, it is the first mod anyone should make. Well worth the cost and installation challenge.

it"s easier to remove the bottom hose the other side,then remove the AOS, because the two bottom of the AOS return pipe is the same angle, and the ring you cracked just use to open the two locks, don't need to fix it ,it still can lock up.
