The MBP. I have a late 2015 13” model. It works well enough for now. I do a lot of writing so the new butterfly keyboards don’t hold much appeal. Hopefully they’ll get better by the time I have to upgrade. Horsepower isn’t as important to me but it’s good for future proofing.

Lu Jialiang 2016-17 pro models have issues with dust getting stuck under the key caps. You basically have to live in a destilled room for it not to happen. The keys start getting stuck, for some even fall off. When it happens and if you don’t have warranty, I heard the keybord replacement is like 500$

What do you want microsoft excel performance review? Video editing is used precisely because its demanding. If it can edit videos seemlesly it can pretty much handle any other program ud use within reason

Second, whether a video takes 30 or 40 minutes to export, what does it really say to someone who doesn't use their computers for editing videos? There are plenty of sophisticated tests, like GeekBench, as well as relative tests out there, like compiling and running an Android studio project with the emulator. Maybe even showing how many running processes you can have running concurrently compared to battery usage might be relevant.

Personally I think Apple should give the 13” Non-Touchbar Macbook Pro the keyboard and Touch-ID from the Air and update to the 8th Gen processors. If they do that then i’ll definetly go buy a one. Because personally i dont like the Touchbar but love Touch-ID 😀
the TouchBar is a disaster and a gimmick. This is how Apple "innovates" now, by providing idiotic solutions because they need a new way to screw money out of users, rather than simply perfecting what used to be an excellent design. Keyboards need to do one simple job and do it exceptionally well. The TouchBar is disastrously counterproductive for development and forces you to get an external keyboard if you want proper function keys and an escape key in the correct place. But, hey, more money for Apple, right? Maybe they can get to $2T...
Intel haven’t make the 15W GT3e coffee lake u skus that is used on the non TouchBar MacBook Pro. They could use 15W 4+GT2 skus (surface pro i7 did that) which is also used in most Ultrabook a but it would have much much worse in GPU performance. Edit: the slower 15W GT2 is Kaby lake refresh btw but also 8th gen intel cpus.

MacBook Air is relatively weaker than MacBook Pro because in Air it is too thin and when the processor needs space to heat up the Air crashes. I think you missed that fact. did he miss that?
Good video, liked the comparison but i think opinion is always biased, which isn’t bad at all. Air comes with Touch ID, better battery and better keyboard, so you don’t have to worry about messing up and doing that stupid recommendations of Apple to clean your crappy keyboard in the 2017 MacBook Pro. And all of that for 100usd less. Yes you “sacrifice” performance (not even noticeable), a brighter display (not noticeable either), and quite a little more things that doesn’t make any difference or are a pivotal fact to choose between one or the other. Still, the air is the best option for me, yes there are differences between them, and in some the pro is better but like I said, an average user wouldn’t miss any of those things, or even notice them. If you go for the 2017 pro, you’re certainly not looking for a high performance, otherwise you would be striking the Touch Bar model. In this case, for students (architects or system engineers not included) or entrepreneurs, the air is your best option. Take care!
abhijeeth reddy I have too. But look, I have it now and the more I use it, the better I feel about it. Touch ID makes things easier and faster, and battery is amazing. My friend just bought the pro, and all I hear from her is complains about the battery time. Unless you’re an architect or a systems engineer like I said, the Air is the BEST OPTION.
@@eduardoaguilarmadrid4208 I don't have issues with my keyboard, even after dropping hot tea on it, which was very sticky cause there was honey in it. it was sticky for some time but I was able to unstick it with screen spray solution. idk maybe I got lucky but I haven't had any issues with it before or since the spill.

Hi, I do not get why most reviewers think that good "test" scenario is exporting 4K or 8K footage. Why do youtubers even believe their videos (watched at 720p at best) need to be shot at 4K or higher is something I will never comprehend... I considered myself to be a professional, and (shockingly) exporting video is something I would not even consider doing on an Air. I have 20+ years of experience in software development, and for writing and debugging code the "raw performace" is the least of my concerns... - I have never used notebook outside. So maximum brightness is not an issue. - Quiet and reliable keyboard is worth more than CPU clocks - Battery life - 12 > 10 - Touch ID - I suck at remembering passwords. Pro without it is a dealbreaker. That is why I have ordered a 16GB / 512GB Air, and the idea of getting last years Pro instead has never even crossed my mind ;) If I need performance, deploying and starting a 16 Core server on Azure takes about 5 minutes...
They shoot in 4K and then downgrade. TH-cam applies quite a lot of compression to the files, so having a higher resolution helps retaining video quality.
Doesn't youtube give your videos more bandwidth when you upload your vid in 4K and that the compression at lower resolutions is better i think, not 100% sure. Also a sidenote, who watches videos in anthing other than 1080p these days? I only drop it down to 360p when I'm watching i'm hanging it run in the background.

In the Final Cut Pro video export comparison at 6:19 ... your scale doesn’t match therefore the E-GPU versions visually appear as though it took much longer than the 15” MacBook Pro

I prefer the design of the MacBook Pro but my friend is giving me his new and flawless 2018 MacBook Air for $650 bucks because he doesn't want it anymore :) I'd say I'm getting an amazing deal.
For me MacBook Air is a perfect lap computer. Due to the lack of heating! The Mac book 13 “spins” more and get warmer. Except that I choose MacBook 13 any day!
just purchased the 2017 MacBook Pro 256gb 2.3ghz for $1129 im happy with my purchase I was told to return it and get the 2019 base model but im pretty happy with mu purchase plus if I want to get the 2.3ghz and 256gb I have to spend 1799
For me, it came down to the screen. ZoT mentioned that you couldn't really tell the difference and I'm sure most people wouldn't need the extra 200NT but for a person that owned a 15 MBP and a 13 MBA, it looked like night and day.
I don't think you need this video to decide that. I mean anything will do for research and writing documents writing. For me Air is better choice because it's cheaper. I think that reason alone is enough for what you're planning to do with it. I'd even say go for the cheaper windows alternative if that's the main reason for buying computer. But if you want brand and looks then Air it is.

Is it worth getting the Macbook Air 2018 with 8 gen processor over the Macbook Pro 2017 with a 7 gen processor that is faster, has better graphics, colors, sound, charger, brightness? It's not. The only "issue" is that in 6 years, Apple may not introduce the latest Mac OS (or whatever is called then) to the 2017 Pro, but it may come for the 2018 Air, and that will have nothing to do with performance.
not me I had it for 2 weeks. honestly buy it and get apple care it's for 3 years and it gives me peace of mind knowing if anything happens that my covered. literally, the only good thing Apple has come up with is AppleCare.

Before I buy a new MacBook Pro, I searched on TH-cam and view comparison a lot, finally I purchase 2018 base 15 inch MacBook Pro due to things of performance and cheaper price. Previously I really love 13 inch because the appearance of nice, easy to carry, however, I buy 15 inch. Because I was a senior student do not have too much money and looking for high performance to work after graduation. That's why I give up a 13 inch. Maybe this is a suggestion for other students who wants to buy MacBook without more money.

Great video. I am looking at replacing my now virtually useless 2012 i7 MacBook Air and the choice between a new Air and a possibly non-TouchBar (because I hate it) Pro is exactly what I'm trying to decide. Your video did help. I don't like the fact that Apple haven't updated non-TouchBar MacBook Pros since 2017 (they still have 7th gen Intel chips compared to 8th gen everywhere else), and I have a feeling that they will probably upgrade the new Air next year with an optional quad-core i7. Since I only really use the Air as a media consumption device and use a 15" MBP as a production device I'll probably get the Air, but I'm sorely tempted to go for a 13" Pro. The problem is that I will inevitably start maxing out a Pro because - as Apple very well knows - once you're locked into a memory configuration the only way to upgrade is by shelling out thousands of dollars, pounds or Euros for a new model! And every time Apple releases a new operating system, it makes your current memory contingent that little bit more obsolete. By design, obviously: you don't get to a trillion dollar corporate valuation by giving your customers easy ways to upgrade their old machines! It's pretty disgusting and I'm getting disgusted with myself for continually giving money to Apple who just sock it away in banks and shaft taxpayers as well as users! Why the Windows sphere can't make a laptop that's as good as a 2015 Retina MacBook Pro, say, is beyond me. Windows laptops are still universally awful, although if Apple keeps going backwards they will get surpassed by the Windows manufacturers when they eventually figure out how to make a good laptop.
I have a 2013, i7, 4GB of RAM, MacBook Air 13" and, sincerely, I don't feel the need to upgrade. I will probably upgrade in 2020 to a MacBook Pro 13". Thing is, I'm starting to edit more and more pictures regularly and I feel like the Air is starting to struggle a bit. I don't think I will be needing the quad-core version, since video production is not of my interest (and those models are far more expensive). I would like to see Face ID implemented, as well as the TouchBar in the base MacBook Pro 13" model, keeping its price. That would be a good product.

It’s not the brightest display ever but I find it fine for most occasions. It’s true that most of the time brightens is cranked to the max. But until you don’t start using it under direct sunlight in a very sunny day it’s more then fine.

I would definitely get the Macbook Air. Fingerprint sensor, better keyboard and its cheaper. Security is also much better with the T2 chip.

I prefer the design of the MacBook Pro but my friend is giving me his new and flawless 2018 MacBook Air for $650 bucks because he doesn't want it anymore :) I'd say I'm getting an amazing deal.

For me MacBook Air is a perfect lap computer. Due to the lack of heating! The Mac book 13 “spins” more and get warmer. Except that I choose MacBook 13 any day!

just purchased the 2017 MacBook Pro 256gb 2.3ghz for $1129 im happy with my purchase I was told to return it and get the 2019 base model but im pretty happy with mu purchase plus if I want to get the 2.3ghz and 256gb I have to spend 1799

For me, it came down to the screen. ZoT mentioned that you couldn't really tell the difference and I'm sure most people wouldn't need the extra 200NT but for a person that owned a 15 MBP and a 13 MBA, it looked like night and day.

I don't think you need this video to decide that. I mean anything will do for research and writing documents writing. For me Air is better choice because it's cheaper. I think that reason alone is enough for what you're planning to do with it. I'd even say go for the cheaper windows alternative if that's the main reason for buying computer. But if you want brand and looks then Air it is.

For the First time i bought apple product i.e mac pro but dont know any thing about it. What i want to know are
1. Do i really have pay for insurance?
2. What video player from where should i download to watch movies?
3. I have movies on my window, how can i easily transfer those to mac pro and watch it easily?
4. Which headphone and usb adaptor?
5. Microsoft word or other? From where?
Haven't opened the box yet, should i return 2017 pro or exchange with 2017 air? Or stick with it?

Is it worth getting the Macbook Air 2018 with 8 gen processor over the Macbook Pro 2017 with a 7 gen processor that is faster, has better graphics, colors, sound, charger, brightness? I don't understand how important it is to have a newer generation CPU, The processors in Macbook Air uses less power...
It's not. The only "issue" is that in 6 years, Apple may not introduce the latest Mac OS (or whatever is called then) to the 2017 Pro, but it may come for the 2018 Air, and that will have nothing to do with performance.
Has anyone had issues on the 2017 MB pro keyboard? I wanted to get it considering the good price but it haunts me.
not me I had it for 2 weeks. honestly buy it and get apple care it's for 3 years and it gives me peace of mind knowing if anything happens that my covered. literally, the only good thing Apple has come up with is AppleCare.
I've had my 2017 Pro since December 2018, and so far I haven't had any keyboard issues. *knocks on wood*

I have a MacBook Pro 15" 2015 model which I use for video editing and other heavy tasks. Do you think I should go with the MacBook Air in this case, since I have a Pro which is my main computer? I would use the Air for University, typing, doing different assignments and probably some light video editing, since I would rely more on my Pro 15".

The reason I got the MacBook Pro 13" was because of your video. It doesn't seem to disappoint, yet, but its only been a few days. It's an amazing device but the keyboard isn't my favorite to be honest.

Indeed, it is quite similar than ipad air 2 vs ipad 2017 few year ago.
Before I buy a new MacBook Pro, I searched on TH-cam and view comparison a lot, finally I purchase 2018 base 15 inch MacBook Pro due to things of performance and cheaper price. Previously I really love 13 inch because the appearance of nice, easy to carry, however, I buy 15 inch. Because I was a senior student do not have too much money and looking for high performance to work after graduation. That's why I give up a 13 inch. Maybe this is a suggestion for other students who wants to buy MacBook without more money.

That's interesting pricing, In Canada,it's 1499 vs. 1729, 230CAD difference, 1439 vs. 1659, still 220 for Edu price, still has some reason to buy the air.

Great video. I am looking at replacing my now virtually useless 2012 i7 MacBook Air and the choice between a new Air and a possibly non-TouchBar (because I hate it) Pro is exactly what I'm trying to decide. Your video did help. I don't like the fact that Apple haven't updated non-TouchBar MacBook Pros since 2017 (they still have 7th gen Intel chips compared to 8th gen everywhere else), and I have a feeling that they will probably upgrade the new Air next year with an optional quad-core i7. Since I only really use the Air as a media consumption device and use a 15" MBP as a production device I'll probably get the Air, but I'm sorely tempted to go for a 13" Pro. The problem is that I will inevitably start maxing out a Pro because - as Apple very well knows - once you're locked into a memory configuration the only way to upgrade is by shelling out thousands of dollars, pounds or Euros for a new model! And every time Apple releases a new operating system, it makes your current memory contingent that little bit more obsolete. By design, obviously: you don't get to a trillion dollar corporate valuation by giving your customers easy ways to upgrade their old machines! It's pretty disgusting and I'm getting disgusted with myself for continually giving money to Apple who just sock it away in banks and shaft taxpayers as well as users! Why the Windows sphere can't make a laptop that's as good as a 2015 Retina MacBook Pro, say, is beyond me. Windows laptops are still universally awful, although if Apple keeps going backwards they will get surpassed by the Windows manufacturers when they eventually figure out how to make a good laptop.
I have a 2013, i7, 4GB of RAM, MacBook Air 13" and, sincerely, I don't feel the need to upgrade. I will probably upgrade in 2020 to a MacBook Pro 13". Thing is, I'm starting to edit more and more pictures regularly and I feel like the Air is starting to struggle a bit. I don't think I will be needing the quad-core version, since video production is not of my interest (and those models are far more expensive). I would like to see Face ID implemented, as well as the TouchBar in the base MacBook Pro 13" model, keeping its price. That would be a good product.

Help me out guys, is it true lower processor = less sustainable device over the years in terms of the speed? I'm in torn between getting the Macbook pro 17 and the Macbook air 18 and has no tech background whatsoever, i'm looking to use the device for >5 years as i'm a doctor going in for Residency for the next 6+years. I'll be using the Mac for basic web browsing, reading ebooks and pdfs, making docs and presentations, overseeing multiple Xrays docs, watching youtube and Netflix
I plan to use my future MacBook mostly for research, so I will need a lot of storage, as well as some light programming and writing essays. I'm looking for high efficiency and a long battery life. Which would you recommend?

Was temped to get the Pro... But being a student I got the air. I need good battery life and, especially, a reliable keyboard. And the 2nd butterfly generation is all except then reliable. If it wasn't for the keyboard... It would be the perfect MacOs student machine.
how is the display? does it get bright enough?
It’s not the brightest display ever but I find it fine for most occasions. It’s true that most of the time brightens is cranked to the max. But until you don’t start using it under direct sunlight in a very sunny day it’s more then fine.
