I noticed that you were using El Capitan, which is not offically compatible on the MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017). I also noticed that there was no Siri icon in the menu bar, which is one of the bases of my claim (the other being the background). Please note that the MacBook Air (13-inch, early 2015), came pre-installed with the macOS Yosemite, El Capitan, and Sierra. The MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017) came/comes pre-installed with macOS Sierra, High Sierra, and Mojave. You cannot install El Captian on the 2017 MacBook Air without Install OS X El Captian.app. Therefore, you either disabled Siri and changed the background or are likely using the MacBook Air (13-inch, early 2015). This are a couple major differences that would affect your results. While both models are the MacBook Air 7,2; the MacBook Air (13-inch, early 2015) with 4GB of RAM and a 1.6GHz i5. The MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017) comes with 8GB of RAM (this is not configurable) and a 1.8GHz i5. This can affect your results. Please double check this in the About this Mac section of your computer.
I have watched most of these 2018 Macbook Air reviews. Here's the problem with all these reviews. They are all the same. They are what I would call "store clerk showing you the laptop" reviews: not substantial, nothing like the Camera/Photography reviews you also see on TH-cam. For one of these reviews to stand out, they need to dig deeper. Since most of these laptops now are almost identical, with minimal differences, focus on THE USER in creating reviews, NOT THE PRODUCT. For example, would Macbook Air be ideal for programming? No one has really reviewed the Air this way. That's because most of these reviewers don't code. Then it could be reviewed as a design tool, but again not many of these reviewers use Sketch, Photoshop etc. They could review it as video editors; yes, some of them are. Having been a journalist, I would suggest the reviewers do interviews about how these users are using the machine or if they're even capable. An interview with a panel like a software engineer, a designer and video editor would help people figure out if this computer is for them. So far, most reviews are store clerk description spec for spec reviews. For those reviews to work, they need to start getting USERS to use the machines and give feedback on them. Eventually, people will get tired of the spec reviews. They have to address the question on most people's mind -- who is this machine for?
Agree, it’s either “specs vs specs”, “OMG gold stickers!” or “Can it edit 4K video?” To be fair this vid is a very useful comparison, and that’s what these guys do best. There are a few real life reviews out there. For what it’s worth I think the new Air is good, not a huge revolution but a decent evolution, however if you can afford it, the Pros are definitely better bang for your buck.
i don't think macbook air 2018 for coders .. Rather buy 2018 macbook pro with touchbar .. and Macbook air 2018 is for posh people who barely use laptop and for those naive users who do very lightweight tasks everyday

The 2017 MBP has the better trackpad, the better screen, better CPU, better graphics, better speakers, better battery and the better charging. It doesn't have the fingerprint sensor and is slightly heavier. I think its a clear win...... The Air *needs* to come down in price to differentiate it from the Pro.
I was waiting for the new MacBook Air but didn’t know when it was coming out. I got the new 13” MBP with Touch Bar and Touch ID. No regrets, not a single letter.
Ya but what about the SSD size? Who can go with less than 512? Not me. Would love 1T but the price just keeps going sky high as you move up. 128 is so small now it's ridiculous that they even still sell that size. I mean come on! 128 still?
I bought the MacBook Air 2017 last year as my first Mac and it’s the best. Sometimes I find myself comparing it to the latest models but it’s because I’m so used to it the Mac doesn’t seem as good as it actually is. It’s quick, light and perfect for any students. It does everything I need and I love it loads. I love the glowing logo, keyboard, lightness and all the ports on the side that the newer macs don’t have. Highly recommend!
FINALLY... Finally someone holding them up next to each other and comparing the sizes. Thank you! Man, the Pro is really sleek - gotta say. I have the latest model 13" Pro without Touchbar. Although the form-factor is not that much different from the Air, I still leave it at home when on long business trips and just take my iPad. The Pro is still too heavy for my taste.
This is exactly the type of comparisons we need!! Whats the point of comparing a Mac to a windows device, Windows don't run MacOS. I want help to figure out which MacOS device to buy!! Same as the phones, I don't care how my iPhone X compares to a Pixel, I'm not switching to Android, I want to know if I should be upgrading to a Xs/XsMax or even an Xr. Great work!!!!
well that kind of blind loyalty is what caused Apple's lack of focus and detail on their recent designs.... people like you will always going to buy it no matter what... even if it means to get a worse experience for a higher price. I am not recommending to switch OS, but to bash comparisons involving true competition is dumb... specially since the competition has stepped up to Apple's level (and in some cases surpasses it)
@DQuiLon There is no such thing as “blind loyalty” when it comes to which type of device that you use. It’s just personal preference. I’m not sure why people find it hard to accept that.
@@You-yw9qp believe it or not, there are people that don't even consider anything else even if it offers a better experience, price, support, or whatever... That is blind loyalty, not preference.... Preference means that the decision is based on the proper knowledge of different options. If you prefer to use MacOS, that is fine... But if you don't even bother to see how it compares TODAY to the competition, it is a blind decision. At the end of the day, you might still prefer MacOS, the higher prices, the half-measures, etc...
@@buccob I don't think it's any or our jobs to judge people on the motives for their buying choices. We are the minority who dive this deep into the specs of these devices. Most of the people I know buy the same brand of cell phone they had before because it's easier to set up their new phone, they don't need to learn how to use a new OS or change where they are backing up their pictures, etc. My original comment was intended to point out that more of these in brand/ecosystem tests are needed and I feel are more relevant to me and most of the people I know (Android and Apple and one Blackberry user). I'm not ignorant to the differences between the Android/Windows ecosystem and the Apple ecosystem, but it would take a lot more than a better camera on a cell phone to change all the devices (laptop, desktop, phone, accessories) to make me switch.

Everyone is complaining about the 2nd Gen Keyboard... put a transparent cover on, it costs about $1 and it takes nothing away from the keyboard experience. Had my Macbook Pro 13 (17) for a year and a bit now, no problems whatsoever.
I own the 2017 MacBook Air. Despite the terrible display the awesome keyboard and well renowned reliability/longevity of this model more than make up for its shortcomings. I wouldn’t want to shell out 1200 bucks for a machine that’ll soon have bad keyboard, stagelight screen problems, speaker problems, and oh! Yeah there’s the absence of SD card slot and USB A port lol

Wilt speed isn’t the problem there mate. The problem is that all the accessories I have are USB A , SD, HDMI etc are not compatible with my $1000+ laptop unless I invest another $100 into dongles or adapter. I understand apple wants to sell sleek and expensive laptops but it should not come at the cost where they take away the ports and make me pay extra to get all the compatibility back. That is a shit design philosophy.
True - I used a 13” MBA for about 3 years as a Web Developer, putting in all sorts of stupid hours staring at that screen. No problems for me, even with all that time spent staring at code. Then I spent my spare time playing Minecraft waaay too much. Whilst it’s true you can define the pixels if you’re looking, it’s not that bad.
Thank you for your comparison video. Two comments: 1. Please do not switch the location of the computer back and forth. It takes me second to notice which is which 😑 2. I learned that larger track pad doesn’t mean its better. I have problems with larger trackpad of 2017 pro. My wrist always steps on one side if the pad and it causes me the poor control of the function using trackpad.
Very good video. You covered everything, I especially liked the view of the trackpads side by side. I've decided to go with the MacBook Pro 13 inch with touch bar, even though I don't want the touch bar. If only the Air was cheaper I'd settle.
Just came back from the apple store, seen the old macbook air and new macbook air and the screen looks almost identical in terms of detail!!! My untrained eye could hardly spot any differences
I want to get the 2017 model cause it’s cheaper and as a college student €300 is a lot ( live in Europe so we use euro) and I also like the glowing Apple logo I’m just waiting for the sales to start
No you're not the only one, I'm saving my money for the '17 Air , as far as I know the keyboards seems fine to me, compare to the '18 Air butterfly keyboard is very sensitive and last but no least the Apple glowing logo.
I love mine, i bought it for college and I love the UI and how it seemlessly connects to my other apple devices. I dont care about the screen bezzels and the screen quality. As long as i can take my notes, be able to watch videos for classes, and i can take it with me easily without a backache, I have not found a flaw with it.
The non-Touch Bar Pro won't be around much longer and isn't getting updated so those scores will stay like that, while the Air will continue to get updated.
Imo, with only 100USD and 0.25 pounds separating it from the nontouchbar pro, the step up gets you a far better machine. P3, 500 nits, Iris Plus, higher wattage CPUs, better speakers, only marginally worse battery life. If this was 200 or more less, sure, but if the nTB gets an update to T2 and Butterfly 3 any time soon it'll be runaway the better option.
I have just purchased MacBook air 2017 model in 2020 lockdown it's a killer machine for coder , programmer even good for simple games and really display are not bad ... Not high quality but good to watch movies 😊

yoo my 2011 15 inch is still running, even having the dedicated GPU dead i was still able to just use the intel GPU, it was not very hard to do but now at least it works, i might get the 15 inch 2018... photo and video editing are killing my machine... the 2013 is a great machine and you can still live well with it (i think), and if you get a new mac go for a 15 inch or a 13 pro cuz this air has got really bad thermals and the performance when editing can be a bit bad when pushing it to the limits.... i would go for the 13 inch pro cuz it better overall and its just a bit more money.

The late 2013 MBPR is totally usable actually, and much more than that, I have the base model late 2013 15". It's still very fast and smooth to this day. It flies in Final Cut.
So compared to the MBP it has much worse graphics performance, color reproduction, a way dimmer display , worse audio quality, slower cpu, slower charging, a smaller battery, and it's only marginally smaller/lighter and almost as expensive. Oh and they kept last years model at the same price... Thanks Obama

The speakers on the new MacBooks are soooo good. Got my 15 inch MBP (2018) since August. It just sounds so good. That is all I can say sound wise. The whole experience with these MacBooks is just great. But I was looking for a 13 macbook, I think I would go for the 2018 Touch Bar 13 inch. It is 300 euros more. But the performance is a lot better and you (probably) won't run into keyboard problems like on the 2016 and 2017 models. If you don't need performance, then the MacBook Air is a good choice.
Well made comparison video. I'm an emerging code trainer from Uganda, if you've never heard about Uganda. Uganda is the best country for a vacation, make sure you don't die without having one here. Anyway, I own a 2011 edition, would be happy to replace with the 2012 macbook pro model which doesn't have a DVD ROM because I need a lighter one to carry around. Brilliant, absolutely amazing, the video was definitely not catchy, but the content presentation was very very well organised and very easy to follow. I don't usually comment on videos but it really provoked a thought. This guy is better than most other youtubers but there is no way he will be THAT famous, because of the lack of instant gripping energy sort of, i don't know how to articulate it properly.
If only the base model pro had a 3rd gen keyboard, 256gb SSD, and an 8th gen CPU. Would have been a very solid and competitive laptop. I might pick up the new Air instead over the Pro simply over the keyboard.
I agree with you 100%. I bought and then returned a 2017 pro because I was so paranoid of keyboard issues on such a pricy laptop. The new air looks great, had the updated keyboard and performs great for my needs (college student). Got a 2018 Air and it's great so far!

I like the old macbook air better and will probably buy it on black friday if it goes on sale.... much nicer keyboard to type on, 50% brighter screen, I like the design better too, a little wider too I like that coming from a 15 inch ibm t60 thinkpad!
Great video Max, your reviews are often the best, AFAIK. I still have doubts on the new MBA when it comes to performance. I loved the 2 MacBook 12" I had but they were really too slow in the end and I had to move to a heavier MBP to avoid frustration. Some reviewers say the new MBA is not capable of playing 4k videos smoothly. That's typically a deal breaker in 2018. Would love to have a deeper performance review from you.

I have 2 questions. 1) I want to buy the Macbook Air (2019), but I dont know if I should upgrade the RAM knowing that nowadays you can't do an upgrade by yourself as one can do with the old ones. So should I upgrade it for 8gRAM to 16gRAM paying those 200$ extra, is it worth it? Basically... the Macbook Pro base model (non-touchbar) 2017 is better than the new Macbook Air (2018). I was thinking on a renewal and I think due to performance is better to buy the base Pro.
LED indicator? Umm, I assume you meant on the MagSafe connector? Cause there is no LED on the body of the older MacBook Airs. Also the newer MacBook Air seems to be lacking the dual microphones. (Or have they just been relocated?)
I just got a 13" 2017 1.8 i5 8gb for $400 and added a 1TB Evo 970(1,400 write and 1,500 read) and it is SUPER FAST. So far better then my i7 8gb 2013 air and can still edit 5DMKIV 4k footage and run adobe smooth.
Thanks for doing this comparison! I'm on the edge whether to go with the 2018 Air or 2017 Pro and this helps. So far I feel the Pro is the better deal overall but my work requires a lot of typing! Unless the Pro's edges are that bad I might just go for it because the better screen and performance boost seems worth the extra $100
The 2017 MBP still has the rare possibility of keys failing due to dust and debris. New 2018 Air solves that problem. If you don't do any kind of photo or video editing or performance-intensive tasks, you'll never notice the difference. If you're usually never in a very bright environment, you'll be fine with the dimmer display. I suggest going to an Apple store and using both if you can. The new keyboard is less tactile.
I am a casual user. I actually do not need the extra performance and display as much as I need a better keyboard and a touch ID to log in instantly to my laptop
I bought the 2018 Macbook Pro, I was going to get an MacBook Air but I bought my MacBook like 2 months ago. I hated the silver lining around the MacBook Air so that’s why I didn’t get it.
I'm getting the 2015 air on black friday for $799 instead. The performance difference is not vast and I can live with that lower quality screen for a while

I still use 2013 Air and it's fantastic, but the screen does look kinda bad. Also, make sure to buy at least 256 Gigs. I have 128 and am constantly suffering whenever I need to install an app.
We haven't tested the fan noise but the 2018 MacBook Air uses an 8th generation chip so it's more efficient, and it's only a 7w chip, so it shouldn't heat up as much unless you're doing a hardcore benchmark or something.
Oh yeh, there's no comparison. The highs are really crisp and bright, so it makes vocals very loud and clear. They're perfect for Netflix. The Pro's speakers are even louder.

I have the 2015 Air and its the best laptop I've ever had. Thin, light, fast, quiet, and it has ports! I have too many drives to go to a laptop with USB-C only. And secondly, both my current and new macbook base models only have 128gb SSD's. That's very little for a modern laptop, and that's why a MicroSD card port is so important. I have a 200gb MicroSD card in my macbook at all times with a special case that makes it seamless. Also, I'm no fan of the "butterfly" keyboard in the new macbooks. Yes, the only real bad thing about the old Air is the display but I'm okay with it for now. TouchID, better facetime cam, faster processor are not essential features for most people.
I've always been put off from the MacBook airs because everyone complains about the display, I bounced around from a MacBook Pro to a MacBook 12" to iPad Pro and I've now just picked up a MacBook Air 2015 for £400. And its honestly perfect for what I need, its light fast has ports terrific battery and it cost next to nothing in terms of laptop prices. And the screen is fine, 900p in my eyes isn't terrible, definitely a good buy.
Bought the 2017 Air with 256 gb SSD in July for 1199 Euro's. It's more than sufficient for me. Love it's "old school" USB ports. I can just hook up any of my hardware without having to buy a separate adapter. Biggest downside is, as you've mentioned, the screen. But it's ok for the few time I'm bringing my Air somewhere. At home it's hooked up to a full HD external screen. Performance wise, it's basically click & go. And it's 5th generation i5 dual core is fast enough for day to day usage. I like the design of the new Air, but I just love my little lit Apple logo (and keys) on my 2017 Air. :) I'm sticking to my Air :)
I have 2015 macbook air and decided to bought 2017 macbook pro. Regret it already. Battery only last for 4.5 hours,and what worse is.. It is keep draining battery during sleep mode. 20% drained in just 2 hours!.. Never have the same issue with my old Macbook air.
@@didingendut5431 It sounds like your machine either has a battery-drain issue, or a bad battery. You should contact Apple, or book an appointment at an Apple store to have it looked at.

The 2017 MBP has the better trackpad, the better screen, better CPU, better graphics, better speakers, better battery and the better charging. It doesn't have the fingerprint sensor and is slightly heavier. I think its a clear win......
The Air *needs* to come down in price to differentiate it from the Pro.
And if you have an Apple Watch with your MBP, you will barely miss the touch ID has you can use your watch to unlock you Mac
MacBook Pro doesn't have the 3rd gen butterfly keyboard, only 2nd gen. That matters to people. Same goes for Touch ID and the T2 chip.

I bought the MacBook Air 2017 last year as my first Mac and it’s the best. Sometimes I find myself comparing it to the latest models but it’s because I’m so used to it the Mac doesn’t seem as good as it actually is. It’s quick, light and perfect for any students. It does everything I need and I love it loads. I love the glowing logo, keyboard, lightness and all the ports on the side that the newer macs don’t have. Highly recommend!

Although the form-factor is not that much different from the Air, I still leave it at home when on long business trips and just take my iPad. The Pro is still too heavy for my taste.

This is exactly the type of comparisons we need!! Whats the point of comparing a Mac to a windows device, Windows don't run MacOS. I want help to figure out which MacOS device to buy!! Same as the phones, I don't care how my iPhone X compares to a Pixel, I'm not switching to Android, I want to know if I should be upgrading to a Xs/XsMax or even an Xr. Great work!!!!
well that kind of blind loyalty is what caused Apple's lack of focus and detail on their recent designs.... people like you will always going to buy it no matter what... even if it means to get a worse experience for a higher price.
I am not recommending to switch OS, but to bash comparisons involving true competition is dumb... specially since the competition has stepped up to Apple's level (and in some cases surpasses it)

If you prefer to use MacOS, that is fine... But if you don't even bother to see how it compares TODAY to the competition, it is a blind decision. At the end of the day, you might still prefer MacOS, the higher prices, the half-measures, etc...

I don't think it's any or our jobs to judge people on the motives for their buying choices. We are the minority who dive this deep into the specs of these devices.
Most of the people I know buy the same brand of cell phone they had before because it's easier to set up their new phone, they don't need to learn how to use a new OS or change where they are backing up their pictures, etc.
My original comment was intended to point out that more of these in brand/ecosystem tests are needed and I feel are more relevant to me and most of the people I know (Android and Apple and one Blackberry user). I'm not ignorant to the differences between the Android/Windows ecosystem and the Apple ecosystem, but it would take a lot more than a better camera on a cell phone to change all the devices (laptop, desktop, phone, accessories) to make me switch.

Everyone is complaining about the 2nd Gen Keyboard... put a transparent cover on, it costs about $1 and it takes nothing away from the keyboard experience. Had my Macbook Pro 13 (17) for a year and a bit now, no problems whatsoever.

Wilt speed isn’t the problem there mate. The problem is that all the accessories I have are USB A , SD, HDMI etc are not compatible with my $1000+ laptop unless I invest another $100 into dongles or adapter. I understand apple wants to sell sleek and expensive laptops but it should not come at the cost where they take away the ports and make me pay extra to get all the compatibility back. That is a shit design philosophy.

True - I used a 13” MBA for about 3 years as a Web Developer, putting in all sorts of stupid hours staring at that screen. No problems for me, even with all that time spent staring at code. Then I spent my spare time playing Minecraft waaay too much. Whilst it’s true you can define the pixels if you’re looking, it’s not that bad.

2. I learned that larger track pad doesn’t mean its better. I have problems with larger trackpad of 2017 pro. My wrist always steps on one side if the pad and it causes me the poor control of the function using trackpad.
Very good video. You covered everything, I especially liked the view of the trackpads side by side. I've decided to go with the MacBook Pro 13 inch with touch bar, even though I don't want the touch bar. If only the Air was cheaper I'd settle.

I love mine, i bought it for college and I love the UI and how it seemlessly connects to my other apple devices. I dont care about the screen bezzels and the screen quality. As long as i can take my notes, be able to watch videos for classes, and i can take it with me easily without a backache, I have not found a flaw with it.

The non-Touch Bar Pro won't be around much longer and isn't getting updated so those scores will stay like that, while the Air will continue to get updated.
Imo, with only 100USD and 0.25 pounds separating it from the nontouchbar pro, the step up gets you a far better machine. P3, 500 nits, Iris Plus, higher wattage CPUs, better speakers, only marginally worse battery life. If this was 200 or more less, sure, but if the nTB gets an update to T2 and Butterfly 3 any time soon it'll be runaway the better option.

yoo my 2011 15 inch is still running, even having the dedicated GPU dead i was still able to just use the intel GPU, it was not very hard to do but now at least it works, i might get the 15 inch 2018... photo and video editing are killing my machine... the 2013 is a great machine and you can still live well with it (i think), and if you get a new mac go for a 15 inch or a 13 pro cuz this air has got really bad thermals and the performance when editing can be a bit bad when pushing it to the limits.... i would go for the 13 inch pro cuz it better overall and its just a bit more money.

The late 2013 MBPR is totally usable actually, and much more than that, I have the base model late 2013 15". It's still very fast and smooth to this day. It flies in Final Cut.
Yeah, my late 2013 rmbp 15" 1TB still rocks. Super fast, renders, and opens dozens of tabs without a problem.
So compared to the MBP it has much worse graphics performance, color reproduction, a way dimmer display , worse audio quality, slower cpu, slower charging, a smaller battery, and it's only marginally smaller/lighter and almost as expensive. Oh and they kept last years model at the same price...

The speakers on the new MacBooks are soooo good. Got my 15 inch MBP (2018) since August. It just sounds so good. That is all I can say sound wise.
The whole experience with these MacBooks is just great. But I was looking for a 13 macbook, I think I would go for the 2018 Touch Bar 13 inch. It is 300 euros more. But the performance is a lot better and you (probably) won't run into keyboard problems like on the 2016 and 2017 models. If you don't need performance, then the MacBook Air is a good choice.

Anyway, I own a 2011 edition, would be happy to replace with the 2012 macbook pro model which doesn't have a DVD ROM because I need a lighter one to carry around. I agree with you 100%. I bought and then returned a 2017 pro because I was so paranoid of keyboard issues on such a pricy laptop. The new air looks great, had the updated keyboard and performs great for my needs (college student). Got a 2018 Air and it's great so far!

I still have doubts on the new MBA when it comes to performance. I loved the 2 MacBook 12" I had but they were really too slow in the end and I had to move to a heavier MBP to avoid frustration. Some reviewers say the new MBA is not capable of playing 4k videos smoothly. That's typically a deal breaker in 2018. Would love to have a deeper performance review from you.

I have 2 questions. 1) I want to buy the Macbook Air (2019), but I dont know if I should upgrade the RAM knowing that nowadays you can't do an upgrade by yourself as one can do with the old ones. LED indicator? Umm, I assume you meant on the MagSafe connector? Cause there is no LED on the body of the older MacBook Airs. Also the newer MacBook Air seems to be lacking the dual microphones. (Or have they just been relocated?)

They are just moved. on the late 2013 MBPR (the one I have) you cant see the mics.
I just got a 13" 2017 1.8 i5 8gb for $400 and added a 1TB Evo 970(1,400 write and 1,500 read) and it is SUPER FAST. So far better then my i7 8gb 2013 air and can still edit 5DMKIV 4k footage and run adobe smooth.

Thanks for doing this comparison! I'm on the edge whether to go with the 2018 Air or 2017 Pro and this helps. So far I feel the Pro is the better deal overall but my work requires a lot of typing! Unless the Pro's edges are that bad I might just go for it because the better screen and performance boost seems worth the extra $100
The 2017 MBP still has the rare possibility of keys failing due to dust and debris.
New 2018 Air solves that problem.
If you don't do any kind of photo or video editing or performance-intensive tasks, you'll never notice the difference.
If you're usually never in a very bright environment, you'll be fine with the dimmer display.
I suggest going to an Apple store and using both if you can. The new keyboard is less tactile.

I still use 2013 Air and it's fantastic, but the screen does look kinda bad. Also, make sure to buy at least 256 Gigs. I have 128 and am constantly suffering whenever I need to install an app.

How about the fan noise of the 2017 base model MacBook Pro compare with 2018 MacBook Air , I’ve been pretty concerned about it.

We haven't tested the fan noise but the 2018 MacBook Air uses an 8th generation chip so it's more efficient, and it's only a 7w chip, so it shouldn't heat up as much unless you're doing a hardcore benchmark or something.

The speakers improvement was quite impressive, a HUGE difference between the two Airs!
Oh yeh, there's no comparison. The highs are really crisp and bright, so it makes vocals very loud and clear. They're perfect for Netflix. The Pro's speakers are even louder.

I have the 2015 Air and its the best laptop I've ever had. Thin, light, fast, quiet, and it has ports! I have too many drives to go to a laptop with USB-C only. And secondly, both my current and new macbook base models only have 128gb SSD's. That's very little for a modern laptop, and that's why a MicroSD card port is so important. I have a 200gb MicroSD card in my macbook at all times with a special case that makes it seamless. Also, I'm no fan of the "butterfly" keyboard in the new macbooks. Yes, the only real bad thing about the old Air is the display but I'm okay with it for now. TouchID, better facetime cam, faster processor are not essential features for most people.

I've always been put off from the MacBook airs because everyone complains about the display, I bounced around from a MacBook Pro to a MacBook 12" to iPad Pro and I've now just picked up a MacBook Air 2015 for £400. And its honestly perfect for what I need, its light fast has ports terrific battery and it cost next to nothing in terms of laptop prices. And the screen is fine, 900p in my eyes isn't terrible, definitely a good buy.
Bought the 2017 Air with 256 gb SSD in July for 1199 Euro's. It's more than sufficient for me. Love it's "old school" USB ports. I can just hook up any of my hardware without having to buy a separate adapter. Biggest downside is, as you've mentioned, the screen. But it's ok for the few time I'm bringing my Air somewhere. At home it's hooked up to a full HD external screen. Performance wise, it's basically click & go. And it's 5th generation i5 dual core is fast enough for day to day usage.
I like the design of the new Air, but I just love my little lit Apple logo (and keys) on my 2017 Air. :)
I'm sticking to my Air :)

I have 2015 macbook air and decided to bought 2017 macbook pro. Regret it already. Battery only last for 4.5 hours,and what worse is.. It is keep draining battery during sleep mode. 20% drained in just 2 hours!.. Never have the same issue with my old Macbook air.
@@didingendut5431 It sounds like your machine either has a battery-drain issue, or a bad battery. You should contact Apple, or book an appointment at an Apple store to have it looked at.
do the latest Macbooks have larger keys when compared to the older mid 2012 MacBook Pro?

So for 100 dollars you can get a more powerful processor brighter and better screen in essentially the same size but lose out on touch id?
yeah, but you sadly get the more faulty 2nd-gen butterfly keyboard instead of the new 3rd- gen of the Air

I just bought the macbook air for $949 during a flash sale, but now the macbook pro is on sale for $1099. I'm wondering if I should return it and get the macbook pro....Any suggestions, anyone?
