So happy to see this channel is active again. Yes, plant based eating don’t need to be expensive. In fact in my college days 30yrs ago, rice+veggies is my go to food when i was down to my last $100. That lasted me a whole month too. To top it all off i did my grocery shopping at chinese/asian supermarket that sells all sorts of Asian veggies for cheap+10kg or 20kg bag of rice. It costed me about $50 back then. While it might cost close to $100 these days, it’s still cheap than having to buy meat, cheese & eggs.
@@NoEggCraig Hey Craig, I Just wanted to let you know that the Beyond Burgers, and sausages are at some Dollar Trees this month and were only $1.25! Another channel, PrettyNFlawed, featured them in her new Dollar Tree shop with me video. I was shocked to see them that cheap. Just FYI :)
@@NoEggCraig not just affordable but also quick. I never realize until i switched to plant based eating how much work it takes to make animal edible, not to mention expensive. I now live in my home country of Indonesia and plant based eating is even cheaper.
It's so good to see you doing a budget meal video again and also interesting to realise it was based on one that Rose did. I actually first discovered you from way back in the day when you used to do your own budget weeks at Aldi first I think and then other stores, so I'd be more interested to see what you would come up with on your own. Look forward to hopefully seeing that come to fruition. Thanks 😊
For anyone interested, The Beyond Meat burgers and sausages are at Dollar Tree this month for only $1.25! I was completely shocked to see them there. A channel on TH-cam, PrettyNFlawed, just did a Dollar Tree shopping video and there they were. Enjoy :)
Craig: simple dressing: 3 TBL good balsamic vinegar, 2 TBL dijon mustard, 1 TB maple syrup--delish! and easy! :) Great video--enjoyed! :) Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :) LOVE THOSE COOKING VIDEOS!
NO Egg Craig...Wow!!! I haven't seen your channel in years!!! Didn't your parents have a candy company?? How are they?? Wow!! Love Rose and definitely love Sauce Stashl...good video!
I'd also like to thank you for reminding me of Rose's budget video as I had watched this one back when she first uploaded it but hadn't gone back to it in a while, so now am inspired to make some of these dishes again. I actually don't mind tinned corn and think compared to other tinned vegetables corn isn't bad that way, as opposed to things like asparagus, green beans and peas. Here in Australia frozen corn costs about double what tinned corn does, so that's another thing to think about. There's other budget videos of hers that I'd enjoy watching you try, one she did with lentil patties and many other things and made so much food from what she bought, it looked like about two weeks worth! Nice to see you cooking in your parents house too, have followed you for a while and always enjoy your easygoing way of doing things. 😊🌽🥦
I totally agree with you on the corn. Frozen corn is so much better. I also went to frozen veggies to save money. That taco seasoning tip, I will have to it a try. Mustard to me is not a dressing. 😂😂 love these kind of videos! 👍🏻😄
@@NoEggCraig May favorite dressing is 1 tbs balsamic, 1 the deli mustard, and a tbs water … I don’t add oil and use immediately. ( Note: I have some White balsamic and it’s really sweet so it makes it taste almost like a honey mustard… ) While “gourmet” type vinegars can be expensive…I find they last a very long time. A person could use cheaper vinegars. I also stock up if I ever see them on clearance ( because expired vinegar… it’s just “aged” 😂).
Canned corn is a staple for us. Sorry about the oatmeal opps. We only get plain oatmeal and add dried fruit or fruit as we desire. Loving these meal prep videos.
Rose also did a $3 a day challenge for a whole week I think (£2 for her at the time), which she was inspired to do after watching someone else do a $3 a day challenge. That one was really good as well and she was able to buy a bit more food with that challenge so came up with some other creative dishes. It would be good to see you try that one out to compare and see what you think. Thanks again for reminding me to get back to some of Cheap Lazy Vegan's videos, when I first got onto TH-cam it was when I did the Live Below The Line Challenge and her videos came up as she'd also done it too, about seven years ago. They were very inspiring and thought provoking to watch, and probably a lot more relevant these days, so anyone reading this should definitely go and check them out!
Excellent, I think you'll enjoy it. 😊 That's right actually that the budget is similar, however from memory the meals were quite different but with the same Rose logic applied to them of reusing or repurposing different things, so definitely worth a look. Let me know what you think. 👍
Impressive!! I bet if you had bought regular tofu instead of the pre-seasoned kind, you probably would have come in on budget! I love Dijon mustard so the pasta salad actually sounds intriguing to me, haha.
That price wasn't too bad, Wal-Mart has gone up in its prices but its sill on the cheaper side. that same stuff could be more expensive at another store. I think you got a good variety of stuff as well. If you already have seasoning it makes it better. I think a little oil and vinegar mixed with the mustard would have made a nice salad 🥗 dressing. The meals did look good though and a good idea to save money👍
I 100% agree that that dressing could have absolutely been made better with a few extra ingredients. But To only use what was within the budget would have been very difficult!
I just need to point out that your outfit is very nice! You look great and this video is awesome! 😅 I get surprised too with the prices now; but if you don’t buy all the faux meats/cheeses or tofu type things, and eat a lot more fresh/frozen and safe/clean canned foods you’ll save a looot of moneys.
@@NoEggCraig ahh I didn’t know you replied! 🫠🫶🏻 It can be cheap eating the healthy stuff. Sometimes. But lately things have just been creeping higher and higher. It’s awful!
Maybe you need to have a word to youtube's ad department. The first ad I got before your video started was for a supermarkets roast pork. I'm going What The. Geez TH-cam context is a bit off. I have a rice cooking "recipe" that takes 15 mins and has worked every time so far.
Just an FYI, it's a four part series, not just one video, but they're all short videos, titled 'How To Live On $3 a Day'. She applied the point you made where she got a lot of good staple items and did cook from scratch too, so cooked her dried chickpeas herself the night before, but then had some other items to make it easier too like frozen mixed vegetables and frozen brussel sprouts, no canned corn from memory! This one would be a really interesting one to see if you could come close to what she spent if you tried to recreate it, definitely worth giving it a go, that would be good to watch! Thanks 😊
Oh okay, so the weekly budget didn't matter as much as the daily budget, that makes sense since you would have to buy in larger quantities to save money
So sorry but not sure I follow what you've said completely, however she still bought most of what she used at the beginning from the total amount she had to spend, and then bought two more items at the end with what was left. So I think in total she spent maybe £10/$15?? Still going with the same types of size packages as the other challenge, let me know if you watch this series though, it's a really good one, quite creative at times. 👍
Just to clarify too, the weekly budget and the daily budget both were important, as she only allowed herself to spend £10 for the 5 days, but it's just that it worked out to be £2 a day or $3 US. Hope I've explained it better now, thanks. 🙂
I don’t shop for groceries at Walmart. My family owns a grocery store. Yes it’s a bit more expensive, but the quality is better. They have a butcher, deli where things are made by items in the store, not Sysco. The bakery is fresh every day at 4am. They have local grown fruits and vegetables.
Take in account inflation and 21 dollars is an awesome take away price! Add liquid smoke or smoked Paprika to regular Tofu and you have the flavor you need.

Jeez, broccoli here is about 4-7 bucks for that size. I do buy oatmeal in 9kg (About 20 pounds). That is unbelievably cost effective especially for oatmilk. I have perfected my recipe for that.
