This video came out at the right time. Several of these I was thinking about over the weekend. Especially rearranging the apps.

0:52 For the main four apps, ex. Disney+, you don’t necessarily have to move it to the front cause they have shortcut buttons on the remote (TH-cam, Netflix, Disney+ and prime video for NA). Just move other apps like sports or broadcast networks like NBC or ABC for example.

@@hdtvtest Hey can you do a test on the differenet internal hard drives for the ps5? I just bought the wd black sn850 2tb with heatsink, it didn't 'ship yet.
@@IrrelevantFart PS5 doesn't use hard drives. It uses solid state drives. Hard drives are mechanical and slow with moving parts that make noise.
Solid state drives are super fast with zero moving parts and are dead silent.
P.s. Mark Cerny himself uses the WD SN850 M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVME SSD in his PS5. 👍
@@PSYCHOV3N0M I’m sure a lot of people say HDD as the standard default to SSDs, HDD, or any kind of storage system. Of course there will be technical people that correct other people, but I don’t fault him for saying HDD because I know what he means. it’s like saying Kleenex (brand) for tissue paper and Band Aid (brand) for bandage. Doge Doesn’t Care About Your Feelings even bought an SSD as mentioned in his comment so I’m sure he knows what he is talking about.

Great video as always. Big fan! Just a thought, from all other android devices that I use (mobile phones for example), in developer mode, if you reduce the animations scales from 1x to 0.5x it gives a smoother and snappier experience. Hope it will be another bonus tip for you all.

6:06 You can also press and hold the home button and select the screensaver option to enable it while using any of the inputs or apps.
You can also reduce the animations to make the Google TV more responsive, by going to developer option and change animation scale to 0.5x for Window animation scale, transition animation scale and animator duration scale.

@@vitahlity5705 Navigating the user menu would become snappier by reducing the animation scale.
What a great video! Thanks so much for posting this - this is so useful! We forget that this effectively has a Google OS and so maybe we should treat it like a Notebook and manage it accordingly.

Great video Vincent! I've been unhappy with the sluggishness of my A90J after only a couple of months of owning it. Every time I turn it on it is slow right after booting up. Some of these little-known hacks I discovered on my own but most of these are new to me. I will definitely change my settings based on your video! My last OLED was an LG which had WebOS instead of Android and I liked it a lot. I never experienced any slow down on it and it was super quick.

Hi there! Love your vids. I purchased the A90j and so happy with it. Wonderful quality. However I am stuck between using Google or Apple TV+. I have used your Apple TV settings - 4kSDR match all etc. i find the Apple TV picture slightly better but the Dolby vision settings on a90j no longer come up with the same movie source and Sony tv goes into custom mode using Apple TV. Can you tell me or perhaps create a video for people with Apple 4k tv and of any benefits over the inbuilt Google or not? Also Having problems matching the sound quality on Apple TV as Google sound better for some reason? Cheers

Excellent video. Does anyone know how to enable ProMode on Sony's Android 10 TVs (GoogleTV)? The previous remote button combination does not seem to work any more. Sony has some docs, but have to get the TV into Pro Settings mode first.

Vincent, I followed your instructions but the option is not there for me to select the apps only mode. Maybe it's due to a different firmware version since you done this video. Not quite sure. There are some advertisements on the home screen for videos/movies that my son is actually afraid of. I want to remove it all together. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

I’ve the A80J version, but have some problems with my Sonos Playbar (optical connection). When the Bluetooth is enabled (needed for the cable box) I cannot control the Sonos Playbar. Any idea?

Ours needed a lot of calibration out of the box . Used recs on AVS . Great picture now .

From what I've heard most Sony TV's look great right out of the box and need little to no calibration

I got Sony Bravia A80L few days ago and used the ethernet USB 3 cable to get wired connection speed went from 300 to 800 MB/Second. Great tip and i use all the other recommendations also.

Vince thank you! I did the steps here and did the whole select last input for when tv turns on and my tv now turns on my cable box everytime now. Everytime I turned on my tv my X90J kept asking me to “Turn on my cable box” and then I had to press “turn on” and even then most times it didn’t work and I’d have to power down my cable box and fire it back up before it would work. Now I’ve seen so many people have issues with EArc working on soundbars. I seen in your video that your tv was reading your EArc audio. So is this issue fixed now when you turn on your tv the soundbar turns on with it with no issues?

Hi Vincent, at the 3:57 mark your internal storage shows Misc. to be 5.4mb, and Available as 1.7GB. My x90J shows Misc. as 711MB, Available is 1.0GB. How did you clear out the Misc. data in Internal shared storage?
I have a question how do I view the display information on my Sony X 90 J as far as to see if the Display is in 120 Hz depending on the HDMI port I am using

I would only add one: if you don't use it, set the "Remote start" to OFF as it is drawing power even when the TV is switched off(~35W).
Can be found under - Network and Internet section.
Vincent, a friend has an a80j and ps5. He has voice sync issues when watching blu rays when in custom mode but not when watching blu rays in game mode. Do you have any issues with this?

I have a Sony XR65A89L. Is there a way to display information (I.e. video and audio format, resolution, etc) on what the TV is currently playing? I can go to picture settings, which gives me some info, but they are not enough. Can you tell me if my TV is TV-led or player-led Dolby Vision? Thank you very much. Great video you have.

My plan is waiting a few months (maybe easter) & buying a high end Sony or Samsung OLED.
in the meantime I'd like to de-clutter the home screen on my current Sony KD-65XH9505.
I've checked but can't see an option for "apps only" am I missing it or is it under a different option.

My opinion is if you want to wait then wait on the QD OLED which is next generation of Tv since OLED or QLED. However it will be expensive and will be the first generation of that technology. So that means you might have to wait for about 3 years or so.
if we use our playstation as our movie player (either via disk media or streaming) do we have to manually switch to movie mode for that or is there a short cut? Thanks :) also i do check all the eggs

That sounds horrible :( i have the x900h and havnt had that issue at all. maybe its a firmware issue and will get resolved.
Is there a way to display the current resolution of non HDMI sources ? My Vizio and Hisense has this option.

Hmm. I have an X950H, and in the first tip - Accounts & Services - I don't see any "Apps Only" mode option. INside this are only three options: Sync Now, Remove Account, and Choose synced apps (I've disabled Calendar, Google TV, People Details).

The only question I have is that when you went into developer options and then "Background process limit" you said to set it to 4 but than you clicked on "At most 2 processes"--did you mean to click on "At most 4 processes" ?
So how the setting is it good? Also 2 processes or 4?

Great video. It is exactly what i was looking for. I bought a 2023 SONY X74L model. When i go to apps only mode, i am unable to add Google playstore or any other app to the Input section. It does not give me an option to add apps there. So any solution for this? Thanks.

Very helpful all of these. Especially the TV shortcut as I don't watch TV broadcasts only movies on disc. So for me the TV button was a waste.. Not anymore thumbs up.
Is there a way to access "Apps-only mode" on my Sony X900H? That option is not available in the "Accounts & Sign-in" in my settings menu.

One other "trick" is simply using "BasicTV" mode at setup time and skipping most of the Google ecosystem altogether. You can't add more apps, but at least the built-in ones will work.
There is one drawback of the simplified menu voice remote is disabled on my Sony Bravia oled tv

Great video. My favourite setting is the APP ONLY since it clears up the home page from all the unnecessary app and recommendations which I don't care for, except the Google Assistant button on the remote doesn't work when you're have APP ONLY mode on and that's unfortunate. If anyone knows how to get it Google Assistant button AND have the App Only Mode on at the same time that would be awesome.
