    The single biggest problem with Sony Android TV is the "Volume Control Display."
    The little volume window behaves like an "app" instead of "daemon" standby in the background memory. So when toggle the volume button on the remote, it can take up to 15 seconds for the volume "app" to launch just to display the volume level.
    This is INSANE!

      @Matt Wippert At the moment, the bast users can do is reducing load on the Android system, and hoping Sony come up with better future updates... sad.

    Totally agree with these settings. However best experience is to use an external device such as NVIDIA shield, Roku, Apple TV, etc. And just turn off wifi/internet on this TV. Only turn the internet 0n to receive Firmware updates such as forthcoming Dolby Vision. Don't expect it to get any faster with future software updates as the hardware memory/soc is too limited.

      I love the 930e from what i hear you cant go wrong either way.

    • @evl619
      @evl619 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      After seeing both models side-by-side, I would say 930E defiantly has better contrast thanks to its superior backlit module.
      I think it comes down to what kind of content source you gonna feed the TV with; If your only source of 4K HDR contents are through online streaming(e.g.. Netflix), it wouldn't be a bad idea to go for 900E and spare yourself some $$$. However, if you have a decent 4K Blu-ray player and 4K HDR Blu-rays are well available in your region, 930E will do those investments justice~

    • @jpluttme
      @jpluttme 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the replies! I don't plan on buying a 4k blu-ray player. Just looking for something that upscales/displays lower resolution content very well (first and foremost) and plays 4k digital content via apps and PS4 Pro. I'm also coming from an older THX certified FALD LG TV so I don't want to go with a set that is a noticeable downgrade visually. I've considered the C7/B7 OLEDS but prefer the brightness of LEDS and am weary of image retention (even though it's not much of an issue anymore from what people are saying.) My budget is $2k.

    Thanks for this video! I’m simply trying to improve the laggy scrolling speed of my tv, especially when I first turn it on. However I noticed my Tv doesn’t have sonyselect or Sony shelf so I can’t delete the cache for those. Did they rename those or remove those in an update? Is there a different cache setting or two that I should clear? Thanks again!

    You can also put Android into Developer mode (google it) and decrease the window animation settings
    by half--makes quite a difference navigating the GUI.
    I have a 900e and believe it or not, if your batteries in the remote are draining down, a new set will make a huge difference in speed going in and out of settings. I have also had this happen on different Android boxes that I have had so I recognized the symptom when I saw it on my Sony 900e.
    Hope this helps.

    Simply disabling it will not stop the pop up. You need to go into it as if you are going to set it up then when you see terms and conditions you click decline and save. This will then stop the pop up permanently.

    This is precisely my reason for still loving my old but reliable non-smart full HD 1080p tv. All I need actually is the tv screen and a few interface ports. I've updated my home theater to an Onkyo TX-NR676E 7.2 system. I have practically never used my tv speakers or tuner. All my tv channel choices come from my cable box. Having a non-smart tv made me simply buy a cheaper streaming box/device like the Fire TV stick. All my source devices, including my laptop, are connected to my home theater AVR. I understand I can/t enjoy 4K and i'm not a video gamer. I love watching movies and musical videos and listening to the stereo. I'm tremendously enjoying my videos and music, and don't need 10,000 nits either. My almost 5-year old tv is just fine! Just a plain ol' vanilla guy.

    This isn't disabling the Samba pop-up on my 930E...*help*. I've disabled the app and then even double-checked and long-pressed the power button to restart the TV. It's STILL coming up. -_-
    EDIT: I just fixed it - the only thing that shut it up was actually going into Samba setup and disabling it *there*. The Samba Services app must be enabled and started to do this. You then have to doubly-confirm you want to disable it. What a hassle. =/
    Fingers crossed that it finally gets the hint.

    Update: The changes I mentioned below to get a quick power on/boot cycle only worked when turning the TV off and back on quickly. When turning the TV on after being off for a longer period of time (like an hour) still takes 68 seconds to boot and be operational. It goes from an Android splash screen to a Sony splash screen, to another Android splash screen with spinning graphics, then a black screen for a few seconds, then finally operational. Is this normal?
    Previous post: Thank you so much! About 4 months ago my Bravia did a SW update and it took about 90 seconds to boot every time I turned it on (Sony slash screen followed by Android logo). After following your instructions regarding Samba, Sony Select, and Sony Shelf, it now boots in two seconds! Those are the only changes I made.
    The only issue I have now is the OTA channel changes are not smooth. For example, if I try to change the channel up by 5 channels, it will go up and then back down by one or two channels or jumps between channels before settling on an incorrect channel. I have to either select a channel from a list, or take my time and only change go up or down slowly, one channel at a time, to change channels reliably. Do you have any ideas on how to "fix" that behavior?

  • @notsobrightxperiathemes9970

    I'm sorry but I am afraid that all Android settings get reset after a TV restart. Just Samba will be gone for good since it has been disabled.
    BTW if you disable the notifications in Sonyshelf the "featured apps" (bloatware) in the Leanback launcher (Home) disappear for good, but moving the installed apps in the App section. That also helps.

    tip: if you hold down the arrow button you can scroll through that list of apps much faster.
    I get the "HueyModule has stopped" prompt now and again on my ZD9 which is super annoying since it doesnt time out. however disabling the huey module in apps often causes my screen to start displaying random black frames (screen goes black like it's lost input signal then it comes back a second or so later.) ultimately rebooting the TV gets things working as before but at the cost of getting that prompt appearing again.
    android 7.0 is a pretty poor experience overall TBH, worst part of owning a Sony tv.

    I really don't understand why it's even slow. You would think a high end model like the Z1, A1E and even the 940 and 930 will have a spec bump somewhere to speed up the OS. My A1E is painfully slow and when I had my Samsung KS8500 I was happy how fast the Tizen OS was.

      It's possible that apps running in the background could be eating memory and causing judder on the tv. I had to set my x900e to near SOE to stop the judder after I disabled the recommended apps. I used Custom with Judder slider all the way up and the cinemotion to medium.
      There are apps that I don't need such as google games, music, and movies. I would like to disable them, but I need to verify that it won't cause other issues. I would hate to send this set back because it's got great picture qualify, and get the less expensive Samsung mu8000.

    • @notsobrightxperiathemes9970

      That's because the top models have the same awful Mediatek MT5891 SoC present in my cheap XD80 TV. And the same (ridiculous for Android 7.0 in a TV) 2GB of slow RAM. Sony went just cheap, even in the high end TVs.

    • @Greg29
      @Greg29 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Nvidia Shield uses Android and does not have any of the problems of the Sony TVs, it's how Sony chose to implement it that causes problems ie underpowered chipset and not enough memory, it's not the OS itself that is the problem.

    Lol, if you check the 5x box in the animation menu, it makes ever animation 5x slower when you push the button! You should make sure about it before you post a review video like this. It makes it look you not sure what you doing. If you want faster animation you should check the 0.5 option, but it makes faster only the navigation in the menu, but not effects the time the tv to load for example netflix or youtube so its just visual. Anyways clearing the old files from the memory is a good tip, its a tipical sony stuff that the memory gets full with the system files or etc. and everything slows down it was the same in the xperia phones to. The Tv button in the remote control is so annoying, i push itt instead of the down button 3times / 5.

    In all fairness, Sony’s TVs are great. The only thing making them sluggish is the Android Tv OS. I feel Sony is stuck with this sluggish OS that can’t even be compared in terms of speed to Samsung’s little known Tizen Os. It kill the user experience of these great hardwares.

    The problem with forcing Sony Shelf and Sony Select off, is that they come right back on their own. They take up RAM which causes judder. It happens when I use the smart tv feature to play something on Amazon. So I have to keep going in to shut them down again. The tv has a great picture, but android is a lousy operating system.
    After two weeks of operation, my X900E became unstable, so I had to re-boot it. I turned it off and disconnected power for 15 seconds. Then I went back in to disable those two apps. and it began to work the way it is supposed to.
    I hope Sony sends an update which will prevent apps from slowly grabbing RAM and not releasing it. At least that what it seems to be doing. They also need to let us disable those two apps and let them stay disabled.

    I took all steps in this video and my Bravia is still choppy when I stream content, specifically on the ESPN app.
    Any other ideas?

      It's actually ESPN, not the TV. If you watch certain programs (college football for instance) ESPN does not set its bandwidth high enough for the amount of viewers that will probably watch. Now MNF they usually do set a high bandwidth so it's not choppy or looks like 5fps.

    the biggest real problem is that this new sony tvs dont have the sleep button option on the remote, and its so difficult and annooying to set up on the tv... on the older tvs remote the feature is right there...yo just press to activate and set the time to shut off.thats why i find myself still using my 1w2 years old sony remote still working on my new bravia 75"...

    I have a sony tv model 7500E and it has Bluetooth also. The problem is that when i try to connect it with my xiaomi Bluetooth earphones it does not detects it when i scan in the Bluetooth option in the tv. Even it not detects my small F&D soundbar. I tried every option in the tv bluetooth menu but no result. May be it detects only sony product. Kindly help

      I write it in case it helps someone. In order to use wireless headphones with this TV, you have to buy a jack to bluetooth audio converter. It costs about € 4. You connect it to the rear headphone output and to the side usb so it has power. When you select the headphone output you can pair your wireless headphones with this device and listen to the TV.

    Be careful though. When I did Sony select and Sony shelf I lost the quick access to bbc iPlayer and other apps on that row. I had to reset my TV to get them back😭

    Sony needs to implement an App search function.

    This might be a stupid question, but wouldn't it have been much simpler to disabled it via the menu immediately after selecting "Set Up Now?" It would clearly say "Disable" on screen. It clearly shows that you didn't even give it a chance to find out what it is before wanting to disable it. That loses my respect in my book.

      This is actually one of the selling points for this TV for me, actually. More menu options are always better, as long as the advanced, less used options are hidden in deeper menus.

      My humble opinion on this one: WebOS is based on linux. It runs blazing fast and can serve you even more options. Options like "Stay awake while charging" would personaly annoy me to see on my TV screen. Android on TVs is a marketing trick because of it's success on phones. It is like "Windows Phone" on eary smartphones where people would buy it because they thought they will get a fully fledged Windows PC in their pocket (which is just not desirable if you think about it).

    My friend uses amazon fire tv stick on sony tv, tv was sluggish, I have turned off the wifi since fire tv stick is connected to the internet. The tv is much more responsive than it was.
