Got my A95L a few months ago. Learning the menus was a game changer and I've never seen movies or games look as good as they do now. ... But man do I wish there were videos that explained the Sound Equalizer 😂
Had my 95L for 6 months now . Absolutely phenomenal tv. My favourite is Dolby vision bright mode picture is incredible. Sound Equalizer nobody has put a video trust me I've looked. I just adjusted to my liking
if i leave the ambient light sensor enabled is that in theory supposed to be adjusting brightness, and contrast, for both sdr and hdr content dynamically based on day or night sunlight or artificial lighting or watching in dark room?
Can you use a pair of alex echo speakers for a bluetooth connected soundbar on tv's like sony using google TV or is this only possible on TV using fireTV OS?
yeah, thanks men. i saw the other chap sneaking from behind U, i followed YOUR advises including that display & sound "(picture &motion)" idea. executed it, now i will see the results. the hdmi signal format including hdmi 3 "(arch)" & hdmi 4 are both set on enhanced format, displaying 4k supported images. MUCH APPRECIATED, truth be told
Thanks! This was very helpful! My Sony TVs menus don’t look exactly like that, and I have some of those settings already, but I know where to look and am going to double-check some of the settings on both my TVs. 🙂
Do you have to plug apple TV into one of the HDMI 2.1 ports or will the HDMI 2.0 port work just fine? Considering that I have a soundbar and a ps5 which are likely to take up those 2.1 ports.
To me, I find that the picture quality on the Apple TV looks better in the 4K120 port, but some may not notice the difference. I had a CX (which has 4 HDMI 2.1 4K120 Ports and noticed something like “off” when I got to Sony. Switching did the trick. I ended up buying a switch that did Dolbyvision, VRR and 4K120 and things have been fine. I have an A95L.
I don't have an apple TV but from a quick google search it only supports 4k@60hz, so no, you don't have to use a HDMI 2.1 port. One of the 2.0 ports will be fine. Just make sure you turn on enhanced mode for the input so it can pick up HDR properly.
@ I get what you’re saying but Apple TV actually has an hdmi 2.1 port and that confuses me. Also, in recent years Apple TV is supporting VRR, which seems to only work with port 4 of Sony.
Right now today, the only things that can really take full advantage of the HDMI 2.1 port's higher bandwidth (up to 48 Gbps) are PS5's, XBOX Series X's and high-end gaming PC's with advanced, premium-level high-performance graphics cards from companies like NVIDIA, Intel and AMD.
7:35 Did Sony remove “Enhanced format (Dolby Vision)’ under ‘HDMI singnal format’ on the newer TVs? Still rocking my Sony A90J Master Series and it has it.
Nice, but you should mention that motion smoothing can add artifacts to the image in scenes with fast moving elements. I have seen that on old and even on brand new TVs.
Another thing you miss TVs take an extra 100 hrs of being on before it’s dialed in out of the box. I always leave the TV on for a whole week on various channels. Then reset the TV and walla the settings you redialed in the picture has a nicer dynamic image.
Have had Sony Bravia for couple years now and most settings are set to auto, i trust the process system and it’s served well. Yes even motion smoothing and ambient lighting, it makes the picture not blinding and easy for my eyes to follow along with motion.
Hmm they look like the settings UI for the newer Sony TVs. Mine still has "cinema, standard, vivid, photo, Imax Enhanced, Custom" picture modes for SDR. I normally go with Custom.
Aside from turning off Eco Mode on my A95L, I have mostly just flipped between the different picture modes and some of the settings like Dolby vision, based on the content. I prefer the Cinema preset for most content. I have varied the Dolby Vision modes based on what I was watching. If you have Disney+ the Taylor Swift Era Tour is a really cool showcase for Dolby Vision highlights. It looks stunning in all 3 of the modes.
This was helpful. Now if only you obliged “best options first calibrated settings”. Now that would be awarding! 🎉 I know ya can’t do this for all models. But a good starting point would be awesome 🎉
When comes to: (Black adjust & Adv contrast Adjuster in the brightness category, should both these settings be turned off?? I noticed in the section of the video dealing with adjusting brightness both of these settings are off; I didn’t know if they were turned off manually or by default.
Thank you! Great info! Just got my Bravia 7 and your video helped me a lot. Now if only you could explain why only empty folders of movie files are being shown in the media player (or VLC) via usb ? How can we play a movie via usb?
Is there a difference in choosing any TV, whether I use Apple TV or not, because in my opinion the Apple processor is the one that does all the processing, the TV becomes just a display screen and I do not need to buy a Sony TV for the XR processing?
Good stuff. But my Sony x90l does not put sdr in parentheses when in the brightness mode. But when in hdr content that is labeled at the top as yours shows. Not a big deal as I assume it’s in sdr if the hdr label is not shown. On not recommending vivid mode I can’t understand why all YT reviewers suggest this. Yes….out of the box vivid is horrible but I have toned it down and use it during the day as my living room is very bright. The picture looks muck cleaner as opposed to using custom during the day. At night I do use Custom or IMAX. But whatever floats your boat.
@ I like it. Extreme off angle viewing is not good tho. But that’s not a big deal to me as I sit pretty much straight on. There is some haloing around white lettering but not uncommon for led TVs. But imagine quality is good along with excellent colors. And when watching sports the image quality has an almost 3d look to it. The depth is really nice. So not a perfect tv but pretty nice for the money.
Cant recommended turning Ambient sensor off on the A80L. Yes on first glance the picture is brighter. But sometimes 'not' - beacuse the white balance curve is also adapted. So the picture is sometimes brighter keeping it on. And last but not least = if your movie is dark, turning it off wont help much!
How about the setting for Local Dimming? Why do you suggest Brightness to the Max? It is too bright and not comfortable for my eyes. I prefer set the brightness max 35 on my 77A80L & 65X900H. Even with HDR contents for example Dolby Vision it is comfortable with DV Bright on 30 or DV Dark on 35. More than that is too bright and not for cinema standard that movie director intended. I agree with saving energy off and picture setting in Standard or for some movies in Cinema if the content on SDR or HDR10. For your info my room is not dark, it is common family room with side big windows. CMIIW
For gaming, for SP games, I turn on motion smoothing. Makes PS5 games look incredibly clear in motion. Sonys implantation is awesome. Also, for gaming, my set is much too dim for HDR, HDR darkens my whole image. I use Extended Dynamic Range at Low to help achieve an HDR styled image using SDR. Works much better than expected! Completely resolved my HDR depression with this set and works for every game, on any generation.
I have Sony B7 , TV goes into HDR mode automatically when watching HDR content , Brightness and Peak luminance in this mode are auto maxed out as shown on vid. Leave it well enough alone , not sure what there talking about adjusting for HDR, maybe you could turn it down but that ruins HDR
@@Capoeiraplaya22 it's not for everyone I calibrate my TV to my standard to my likeings and it's impossible for to turn off motion smoothing because can't stand judders and motion blur.

Be sure and check for the latest software updates from Sony as some of those settings that you are missing may have been added or modified in the lates firmware and OS updates. Sony does a better job than any other company out there about pushing out useful and meaningful updates for their TVs.
Most consumers are just very poorly informed when it comes to all of this. TV's aren't TV's anymore. They are now very sophisticated LINUX computers with lots of different settings and adjustments. Most won't ever mess with any of those settings at all. They will just take it home, plug it in, do the required initial setup and never even go into any of their menu settings. Many don't even know those menus settings are even there.
@@michaelbeckerman7532 yes, but it makes wonder how many people this video will reach who don't know about any of this. They're probably the sort who just assume everything works as it should and will never try to search for information/a video like this.

I set up the motion smoothness to the max and watch cable on vivid picture mode using hdmi to cable box and it works well!!
Yahhhh don’t use any streaming service to adjust your HDR settings. That stream is coming in severely compressed and not giving you the proper color or brightness accuracy of what your TV supposed to do. Use a 4K Blu-ray from a dedicated 4K Blu-ray player to adjust those settings so it is more accurate.
I can’t handle motion smoothing. People hate it when I walk into their house and tell them I’m fixing it … then they go “oh … yeah that’s much better” …. Yeah, stop that crime against my eyes!
Indeed. I had all of this figured out and more, in just the first couple of minutes of powering on my new TVs for the first time (85" Bravia 9 and 77" A95L).
I like the digital look aka soap opera. It's a digital TV, not analogue. And soap operas don't look like that. I also like vivid or dynamic mode. All the TVs at the store are in vivid or dynamic depending on the brand. But they don't all have the same brightness. I like a bright TV. The picture I see at the store is what I want at home. I don't buy it to dull it down. I set it up, take it off standard, and put it on vivid or dynamic depending on the TV.
Nice new series. Glad you are doing this for all brands across the board.
