I rewatched Sleeping Beauty with my daughters and was blown away by how beautifully it was animated. It's definitely worth watching! The ballet music throughout is also lovely.

I think it's also important to remember that when these princesses were designed, they were designed with the ideal body type of their time period in mind, i.e. Cinderella, which was released in 1950, was modeled after Classic beauties like Grace Kelly. Not sure if this applies to all princesses, but it's definitely the case for some, especially the ones before the 2000s

As someone who started watching this channel because I needed to paint makeup on characters I was designing for a videogame, I particularly like videos like this. I have only ever used the information on your channel for designing fictional characters. I have tried to use the knowledge I have gained about different body types to make a more diverse cast of characters for my projects.
Ginnifer Goodwin is also a Gamine for sure, she played Snow White in Ouat, I think she's Soft Gamine but you guys can tell me if not. She was very fitting for the role
I've heard she was typed FG by Kibbe, but that could be a rumor. Her wardrobe in OUAT was the epitome of SG!! She does look good with a little sharpness and edge though, when you look at her out of character. On the whole they absolutely nailed the "our world" wardrobes of the fairy tale characters while keeping their vibes congruent to their enchanted forest versions. Great style inspo from that show!

I honestly think saying someone looks like another based on skin color and hair shows how little they understand what makes people look like each other. You definitely show a Rapunzel essence and definitely don't look like Mulan.
For a movie example of sleeping beauty I believe Elle Fanning plays her in the movie Maleficent which is from the villains point of view starring Angeline Jolie. I loved this video so interesting and creative Aly!

Aurora has such pretty proportions IMO, her head and facial features are smaller than most of princesses, that makes her look more adult, elegant and even attractive. The opposite extreme are Elsa and Anna: the new princesses have enormous heads/eyes and it feels too much cartonish for me 😔
Ariel being romantic is so on point in fact even exist a concept art of her final look were you can see that she's very our glass shaped and petite and round her widest part is her hips that are very thick and curvy something we don't really notice in the animation but clearly tell her romantic body shape and also it's kinda interesting her pink outfit is inspired by 'the romantic era' wide ball dresses puffy sleeves and all

Belle seems more Romantic to me because of her heart shaped face (and window’s peak), large eyes, sloped shoulders, and smallish rounded features, kibbe curve 😊 same with Snow White!
I think she is soft classic, beccause her body is very ballanced, and she isn't short and lush, like romantics usually are. But she has defently a romatic essence!
No, even her personality is all about books and ideas, she's all covered up too, she's not sensual the way Ariel is. Same with Snow White, more innocence and playfulness than romance.

Aurora was played by Elle Fanning in the 2014 live action movie Maleficent. :) I do not think she matches the cartoon look of Aurora at all, but she is beautiful & played the role wonderfully. Pocahontas is my all-time favorite animated Disney film. Also, just wanted to point out that the actress you mentioned for Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) was her voice actress; they have not made a live-action movie for her yet. You did not mention the actress for Rapunzel, but she was voiced by Mandy Moore. I also loved the 2016 Cinderella live action movie! I was born in the 90s and grew up watching Disney films. To me, Cinderella was not dreaming about marrying a rich man, that was completely out of her mind in the realm of possibilities. She was dreaming about escaping her abusive family.
Kibbe says you need vertical for FG. I don't see vertical in Moana. She has width, rather than a combination of opposites. There has be elongation somewhere, even if it's a long torso, arms, legs etc. that you can see prominently. She is too wide. Moana is a Pacific islander and from what I've seen soft natural is a body that is more common among them. Edit: Adding to my comment, Kibbe has described FG as waifish, so there's an element of being childlike AND lanky, which is the opposite of looking strong and robust the way Moana does.
Moana as a real person would pretty much be textbook SN. She has a rather short but sturdy physique with some curviness on top and rounded corners and round-squarish facial features. If she was in modern times she would follow SN guidelines, not FG ones, for dressing. I think Aly saw FG because the whole movie has a sort of style that 'kiddifies' people (BIG head, child-like facial features), thus making her look more G. But looking at Polynesians as people and her role in her story as the one who manages to communicate with nature goddess Te Fiti (Disney does tend to give meanings to their physionomies in a way) I think she was meant to look like a young SN.

I think Snow White in the movie is not done growing so she can't be Kibbe-typed 😅. I think she is more of a young Romantic who has yet to fill in (so, an Ingenue? If this category existed in Kibbe) opposed to a SG. SGs should have a bit of sharpness somewhere but Snow White is all rounded, though not very curvy (she's 13). Also Jasmine, being the human Taj Mahal, is by definition the Theatricalest Romanticalest who ever lived.
Exactly, Snow White´s roundness comes from her age (baby face) but also because at that time animators relied too much on rotoscope because they weren´t as experienced animating in a not-cartoony way so both Snow´s and Grimhilde´s s bodies look more realistic just because of that reason, their faces are more stylized but their bodies don´t really match their faces, they made their bodies too similar to real life so that´s why it´s hard to place them in any cathegory, it´s more of the animators not knowing how to translate a body into a style and relying too much on rotoscope.

It would be great to see a video for each type featuring examples of the type wearing their right lines, with explanations of why the outfit works for their type. This was alot of fun. I managed to guess a few right. I think Elsa and Anna are both classics. Very balanced, narrow shoulders, look elongated but are not tall. Maybe Elsa a dramatic classic. She is rather dramatic :)

I was recently thinking of this exact thing. So cool I'm 30 and honestly still love Disney. Personally I think Moana is more soft natural, but I really enjoyed how you showed the differences between them. It really reminds us of how beauty is all around us and is unique.
In part 2 you should definitely continue to list those of similar body types for princesses that don't have a live action movie, like you did with Raya.

I always thought Aurora resembled a young Julie Newmar, but blonde. Eye shape, eyebrows, cheekbones, face shape, nose, lips, everything. Even her height, because I have the impression Aurora is one of the tallest Disney Princesses.

I expected to enjoy some Kibbe entertainment and love disney princesses, but what I was not expecting is to finally figure out my kibbe type after years of trying while watching it! I have been compared to princess Jasmine often, but that is common for us brown girls so I didn’t have a second thought about it, though I do bare a pretty similar resemblance to her facial features. When you got to princess Jasmine, every single feature you listed described my body perfectly to a tee. I was actually speechless at the accuracy! So TIL I’m a Theatrical Romantic!!
Amazing video but I would also consider looking at the models for the animated version. For the older princesses there were people acting the scenes so the animators would know how to draw it.

I enjoyed it so much and it open my eyes, because I was convinced in my head(without even thinking) that all the princesses are similar, just gorgeous models, very balanced classics. But through your video I actually saw that there is a big variety and they are even more unique individuals. Also, fun fact in the old Disney movies, actors who gave their voices to the cartoons were actually the inspiration for the character design. Especially the lady who was Cinderella was identical. So probably they would share the same Kibbie Body Type as well. Just an afterthought
Me too, I always saw soft gamine in her. She has a lot of angles in her arms and shoulders, as well as in her chin, a slightly elongated and very playful face, with some softness in her hips, thighs, cheeks, and chest. But also I've been told a million times that I'm the spitting image of Ariel (my little brother even thought she was me when he was a toddler) and I'm soft gamine so maybe that created some bias lol
Ariel is soft gamine. She has a lot of sharpness combined with the roundness. And she has the playful cheekiness of a gamine. I would argue that Snow White is more romantic than Ariel.
I think Ariel physically is closer to theatrical romantic (very very sharply cinched waist and hourglass shape) but with a very young-looking face, and character wise she fits SG.
Yes I think her personality plays a big role in this soft gamine image too, she could be a TR or R as well bc she is a disney character and not a person so it can get pretty confusing
the added drawing of cinderella's feet made me laugh, her story isn't about being a gold digger though, she is like a fairy tale for abused children, it's a happy story of how she still found happiness and left her abusive family, the focus isn't so much the prince than it is her strength, perseverence and a bit of luck from kind strangers to help her get out of the abusive home environment. She still managed to be happy after all she was been through, her mother dying, her father maarrying someone else then him dying, beign forced into hard labour for no compensation, she has EVERYTHING taken from her yet she survived. A video focused on the women in encanto and other non princess characters would be interesting

Love you but I think you tried too hard to make each one fit into one of the Kibbe types. Ariel is SG. She has sharpness in her nose and chin and body. And she has the cheeky personality of a gamine. I would put Snow White in Romantic before Ariel since Snow White has so much roundness in her features and body. Moana is a SN. She doesn’t have any elongation in her body to be a FG. FGs always have elongation in their arms, legs or torso. Moana has width. And I don’t think Merida is an SN.
Pocahontas was also a real person! We only have one portrait of her, and it's not very flattering, but you can see prominent cheek bones, wide set eyes, and a blunt, square jaw. So, the real woman herself may have been a flamboyant natural!
Elsa to me would be dramatic classic. She is taller than Anna and also looks tall in general. Still she has some sharpness and more delicate features like her shoulders and rounder face and hair. So I think something in between Classic and Dramatic would fit. I could imagine someone like Diane Kruger playing her (also DC) For Anna I would say it‘s kind of simular but on a smaller scale, more girlish. And clearly a lot of gamine essence and features so I would go with flamboyant gamine 😊

You're right, Cinderella is a total sweetheart, and also very humble. She did pull the prince, but she never really meant to do so, at least clearly not in the original story.
She didn't want to marry a rich guy she just wanted to go out and have fun for once at the ball. She makes no mention of wanting to marry the prince at all in the film. When she went to the ball she was just amazed by the palace having no care to see the prince. She didn't even know that he was the prince when she met him. This makes their relationship even more believable.

Belle seems more Romantic to me because of her heart shaped face (and window’s peak), large eyes, sloped shoulders, and smallish rounded features, kibbe curve 😊

I think she is soft classic, beccause her body is very ballanced, and she isn't short and lush, like romantics usually are. But she has defently a romatic essence!

This is an excellent way of explaining how the kibble body types can be used for character design! My favorite original character happens to have the same body type as my fav princess, Tiana. I guess I just have my type XDDD
I think Ariel is very SG and Haily Baeily looks SG aswell. And bell looks very Romantic she makes Ariel look young.

Aurora was played by Elle Fanning in the 2014 live action movie Maleficent. :) I do not think she matches the cartoon look of Aurora at all, but she is beautiful & played the role wonderfully. Pocahontas is my all-time favorite animated Disney film.
Also, just wanted to point out that the actress you mentioned for Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) was her voice actress; they have not made a live-action movie for her yet. You did not mention the actress for Rapunzel, but she was voiced by Mandy Moore.
I also loved the 2016 Cinderella live action movie! I was born in the 90s and grew up watching Disney films. To me, Cinderella was not dreaming about marrying a rich man, that was completely out of her mind in the realm of possibilities. She was dreaming about escaping her abusive family.
I don't think every type is covered or that it's balanced, Moana looks more SN to me, I see broadness over angularity.

Kibbe says you need vertical for FG. I don't see vertical in Moana. She has width, rather than a combination of opposites. There has be elongation somewhere, even if it's a long torso, arms, legs etc. that you can see prominently. She is too wide. Moana is a Pacific islander and from what I've seen soft natural is a body that is more common among them.
Edit: Adding to my comment, Kibbe has described FG as waifish, so there's an element of being childlike AND lanky, which is the opposite of looking strong and robust the way Moana does.

Yeah i think Moana looks more like a SN, she is fleshy. Merida is a FG. Merida and her aura screams gamine to me.

Moana as a real person would pretty much be textbook SN. She has a rather short but sturdy physique with some curviness on top and rounded corners and round-squarish facial features. If she was in modern times she would follow SN guidelines, not FG ones, for dressing. I think Aly saw FG because the whole movie has a sort of style that 'kiddifies' people (BIG head, child-like facial features), thus making her look more G. But looking at Polynesians as people and her role in her story as the one who manages to communicate with nature goddess Te Fiti (Disney does tend to give meanings to their physionomies in a way) I think she was meant to look like a young SN.

I think Snow White in the movie is not done growing so she can't be Kibbe-typed 😅. I think she is more of a young Romantic who has yet to fill in (so, an Ingenue? If this category existed in Kibbe) opposed to a SG. SGs should have a bit of sharpness somewhere but Snow White is all rounded, though not very curvy (she's 13).
Also Jasmine, being the human Taj Mahal, is by definition the Theatricalest Romanticalest who ever lived.
Exactly, Snow White´s roundness comes from her age (baby face) but also because at that time animators relied too much on rotoscope because they weren´t as experienced animating in a not-cartoony way so both Snow´s and Grimhilde´s s bodies look more realistic just because of that reason, their faces are more stylized but their bodies don´t really match their faces, they made their bodies too similar to real life so that´s why it´s hard to place them in any cathegory, it´s more of the animators not knowing how to translate a body into a style and relying too much on rotoscope.

This was alot of fun. I managed to guess a few right. I think Elsa and Anna are both classics. Very balanced, narrow shoulders, look elongated but are not tall. Maybe Elsa a dramatic classic. She is rather dramatic :)

Aurora was played by Elle Fanning in the movie Maleficent (which counts as the sleeping beauty remake, the title is probably why you didn't find it) I don't think that she's a dramatic, but honestly, it would be interesting to see which actresses played each princess in many different interpretations. For example in prior movies, in the show once upon a time, in non-disney movies :)

I'm 30 and honestly still love Disney. Personally I think Moana is more soft natural, but I really enjoyed how you showed the differences between them. It really reminds us of how beauty is all around us and is unique.
In part 2 you should definitely continue to list those of similar body types for princesses that don't have a live action movie, like you did with Raya.

I always thought Aurora resembled a young Julie Newmar, but blonde. Eye shape, eyebrows, cheekbones, face shape, nose, lips, everything. Even her height, because I have the impression Aurora is one of the tallest Disney Princesses.

I have been compared to princess Jasmine often, but that is common for us brown girls so I didn’t have a second thought about it, though I do bare a pretty similar resemblance to her facial features.
When you got to princess Jasmine, every single feature you listed described my body perfectly to a tee. I was actually speechless at the accuracy! So TIL I’m a Theatrical Romantic!!

Amazing video but I would also consider looking at the models for the animated version. For the older princesses there were people acting the scenes so the animators would know how to draw it.

I enjoyed it so much and it open my eyes, because I was convinced in my head(without even thinking) that all the princesses are similar, just gorgeous models, very balanced classics. But through your video I actually saw that there is a big variety and they are even more unique individuals. Also, fun fact in the old Disney movies, actors who gave their voices to the cartoons were actually the inspiration for the character design. Especially the lady who was Cinderella was identical. So probably they would share the same Kibbie Body Type as well. Just an afterthought

She has a lot of angles in her arms and shoulders, as well as in her chin, a slightly elongated and very playful face, with some softness in her hips, thighs, cheeks, and chest. But also I've been told a million times that I'm the spitting image of Ariel (my little brother even thought she was me when he was a toddler) and I'm soft gamine so maybe that created some bias lol
Ariel is soft gamine. She has a lot of sharpness combined with the roundness. And she has the playful cheekiness of a gamine. I would argue that Snow White is more romantic than Ariel.
I think Ariel physically is closer to theatrical romantic (very very sharply cinched waist and hourglass shape) but with a very young-looking face, and character wise she fits SG.
Yes I think her personality plays a big role in this soft gamine image too, she could be a TR or R as well bc she is a disney character and not a person so it can get pretty confusing

the added drawing of cinderella's feet made me laugh, her story isn't about being a gold digger though, she is like a fairy tale for abused children, it's a happy story of how she still found happiness and left her abusive family, the focus isn't so much the prince than it is her strength, perseverence and a bit of luck from kind strangers to help her get out of the abusive home environment. She still managed to be happy after all she was been through, her mother dying, her father maarrying someone else then him dying, beign forced into hard labour for no compensation, she has EVERYTHING taken from her yet she survived.

Love you but I think you tried too hard to make each one fit into one of the Kibbe types. Ariel is SG. She has sharpness in her nose and chin and body. And she has the cheeky personality of a gamine.
I would put Snow White in Romantic before Ariel since Snow White has so much roundness in her features and body.
Moana is a SN. She doesn’t have any elongation in her body to be a FG. FGs always have elongation in their arms, legs or torso. Moana has width.
And I don’t think Merida is an SN.

Elsa to me would be dramatic classic. She is taller than Anna and also looks tall in general. Still she has some sharpness and more delicate features like her shoulders and rounder face and hair. So I think something in between Classic and Dramatic would fit. I could imagine someone like Diane Kruger playing her (also DC) For Anna I would say it‘s kind of simular but on a smaller scale, more girlish. And clearly a lot of gamine essence and features so I would go with flamboyant gamine 😊

You're right, Cinderella is a total sweetheart, and also very humble. She did pull the prince, but she never really meant to do so, at least clearly not in the original story.

I don't see enough "musculature" for Aurora's frame - she comes off as tall and sharp more so I could see her being a narrow dramatic
She didn't want to marry a rich guy she just wanted to go out and have fun for once at the ball. She makes no mention of wanting to marry the prince at all in the film. When she went to the ball she was just amazed by the palace having no care to see the prince. She didn't even know that he was the prince when she met him. This makes their relationship even more believable.
