    I think people get thrown off by the masculine and feminine terminology, and get their feelings hurt. If you look into Taoism and the concepts of yin and yang, they don’t mean what we think of, we don’t have exact translations. Even though a tall woman has som yang that doesn’t make them manly, or unsexy at all ☺️ yang is not bad!

    • @SwedishTourist
      @SwedishTourist 3 ปีที่แล้ว +59

      I understand what you mean and I am one of the people who feel a little ”hurt”. I understand the concept, but it’s so sad that society favors certain bodies more than others. As an FN I know I have company with super models, but I’m just average while models ofc look super good. So I just feel like a pile of blunt bones without the yin delicacy. That makes me sad, and I’ve never had terms for it, but now I do. And I’m not sure that’s a good thing or not. I think I’ll change perspective over time, seeing as male FN’s look hooooot, and apparently you’re most likely to pair up with the same type 🥵🥰

    This was so helpful! As a 5 ft 10 girl I was hesitant to label myself as flamboyant natural (even though I have most of the traits of a FN) as I don’t really see myself as “looking tall” but now I see it’s not really possible to look short at that height
    Makes so much sense thank you!

    • @blueice011
      @blueice011 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      It's not possible to look short (although at least 5'8'' Rihanna is persistently typed as TR), but it's possible to look shorter enough to fit into moderate height types. Neither tall people may appear petite, nor petite people can appear like giants, except in Kibbe's biased world.

    • @fatoumfatoumeh
      @fatoumfatoumeh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Yes, it’s not possible to look short or moderate above 5’8. They may not feel they look tall, because none of us can see ourselves objectively, and we also shouldn’t trust pictures (angles distort things). But for short women, there are some who can pull off long lines, wear heels, and you wouldn’t think she’s short until she takes off her heels and actually stands right next to you...so they can have a taller vertical line (like Sarah Jessica Parker).

    • @fatoumfatoumeh
      @fatoumfatoumeh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      @@blueice011 When Rihanna was typed as TR she was a teenager, and Kibbe never actually met her. He himself said that typing is mainly for women who are 25 and over (and already fully ‘developed’), and in those old teen pictures Rihanna did look small then. He made the same mistake when he typed Charlize Theron through a picture.

    • @blueice011
      @blueice011 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@fatoumfatoumeh So, if I understood you correctly, only short women may appear as tall as they like thanks to high heels and slender figure, but taller ones can't appear even moderate, not even in photos (another privilege of petite women only)? Everyone can appear all sorts of different ways in photos, in personal contact the reality hits. No hair style or heel height will make anyone appear 5 inch taller once they are standing in front of you and you can actually see how tall they are and what kind of footwear and hair style they are wearing. Goes for everybody equally, tall or short. Just like short woman can wear heels and updo, tall one can too. And they usually do. So seeing them standing next to each other is rather revealing. Both short and tall people can have short or long vertical line - meaning appear taller/shorter than they actually are, until seen in person. Yes, even if they are over 5'8'' or 6'7''. Matter of proportions (head/hair size, limb length, torso length, frame, weight distribution and body mass....etc.)

    I haven’t finished the video yet, but I had to comment that I’m so glad you’re saying that the name of your type doesn’t define your style. It took me longer than it should have to figure out that I’m a soft natural because I hated the stereotype of natural. I didn’t want to wear earth tones, rugged Western or hippi clothing. I didn’t like earthy or ethnic chunky jewelry. I’m more attracted to a romantic sense of style, and I was very sad thinking that I will never look good in the things I like. Eventually I decided to throw those stereotypes in the trash. I can wear classic looking jewelry, but instead of structured bangles, I wear layered tennis bracelets so it looks more loose and unstructured. I bought some sweaters in romantic colors I like with lace, but they’re draped and loose to suit my natural side. And I can wear sharp, winged eyeliner, I just make sure the rest of my makeup isn’t too “done” looking. So either sharp wings or bold lips, but not both. It seems I’ve found this balance that makes me happy. But it still bothers me when I see a board for the types and all the natural looking items are rigged and ugly.

When Kibbe says “lines” he means that when you dress you follow the lines of your silhouette regardless of what style you’re wearing. As a natural you can definitely wear “romantic” styled clothing as long as the clothing is accommodated after your frame as a natural.

How the early impressionists who softened the rules and began abstracting them and then later abstract artists who completely broke the rules, its the ones who knew how to paint classically could then play around more succesfully and still create something beautiful. Seriously one of the best videos you have ever done 😍 I have really been thinking about what you've said in your previous videos regarding height/frame/curve dominance. And while this isn't a perfect formula or test, I did for my own fun create a "potential guideline" of what kibbe body type one might have based off of their dominant trait:
    (Tall) height = Dramatic
    (Tall) height + Curve = Soft Dramatic
    (Wide) frame = Natural
    (Wide) frame + (tall) height = Flamboyant Natural
    (Wide) frame + curve = Soft Natural
    Undecided about Classic, but in theory "Symmetry = Classic", so:
    Symmetry + (tall) height = Dramatic Classic
    Symmetry + curve = Soft Classic
    Curve = Romantic
    Curve + (Narrow) Frame = Theatrical Romantic
    (Narrow) Frame = Gamine (Undecided)
    (Narrow) Frame + Height = Flamboyant Gamine
    (Narrow) Frame + Curve = Soft Gamine
    Nothing to take too serious, but it helped me determine that I am SN, as I am wide frame dominant in my shoulders, with curve as a close secondary dominance. Height isn't even a thought 😂 Hope this helps!
    Aly, thank you for the inspiration 😊🤗

    I think genetic background can make a big difference in height, and I wish Kibbe enthusiasts acknowledged that more. For instance, I am definitely a SC (all my answers confirm this, as does feedback from other women, and I clearly look my best in SC lines) but I’m 5’8” which is tall for a woman where I live. It’s not that tall, however, when compared to my African and Nordic ancestors. Most of the people I live around are Hispanic, so my pool of comparison is skewed to the shorter side, and that confused me at first.
    My height alone led me to think I was a SD for a while. But, with the help of friends/family, I saw how my features are yin/balanced, my hands/feet are petite for my body, and my bone structure is generally moderate/delicate. I have plenty of curves like a SD, but I don’t carry the same beautiful presence as an SD. Plus I look AWFUL in SD lines. Several people have told me I looked “elegant/graceful” or “delicate” so that should have tipped me off to SC. It was only when I ignored my height and looked at every other factor that I discovered the archetype that truly suits me.
    If I’d listened to a height range, I would still be dressing like crap and not knowing why I looked so odd in everything. Still, I can see how maybe it would help someone who doesn’t know where to start.

    Something I find crucial in determining Kibbe/yin-yang body types that other people ignore or dismiss as useless (???) is head size. It affects our perception of height as much as limb length, if not more. Artists should be familiar with this concept.
    I doubt a tall type with a proportionally large or moderate head is even possible. At a height like 1.85cm, the head would have to be huge. Meanwhile, short types like gamine tend to have doll-like heads compared to their small, delicate bodies.

    • @Nanamka
      @Nanamka 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I agree. One of the hints to determine between a sn and a romantis or gamines is the head size. Sn have small heads compared to their shoulders and upper bodys. Romantics and gamines have bigger heads so their bodys automatically look more petite.

    • @fatoumfatoumeh
      @fatoumfatoumeh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I think it’s not the largeness of the head, but the small-ness of the body that makes the head appear large? Because having a large head in itself can be seen in any type (for eg. Zendaya is FN, with a large head, but she has the tall body, long neck and wider shoulders to go with it, and she still looks tall even with a larger head). Romantics and Gamines otoh, will have normal sized heads that appear large because their bone structure is smaller/shorter. Also, in a lot of cases, the thinner and narrower someone is, the larger their head is going to look...you can see that in a lot of very thin dramatics and some thin FNs (ie. runaway models).

      its your proportions. while if taken correctly, some one short with a short vertical line would only look moderate in height in a well taken photo, but someone short with a long vertical line will look quite tall if the photo is taken correctly.
      i take photos of myself (i am not good at taking photos) and people still think i am quite tall even though i am only 5 foot. Most people in real life think i am taller than that when having a conversation with me. anyone i tell i am 5 foot they're always like "no way! i thought you were atleast 5'4"." if they've only seen me through photos, it's always 5'7" or taller.
      i just ignore peoples actual height when figuring out the body type. i go by their visual vertical line. i mean look at rhianna, shes a Flamboyant Romantic and she is 5'8". But she looks soooo much shorter in her photos (you can see it especially well in the paparazzi photos because they aren't being paid to make her look good). As much as I do not agree with these height regulations among the types - i believe in using vertical line - not your physical data - to figure out your type. I do not believe you can take your height measurement, bust-waist-hip measurement, and shoulder measurement and be able to figure out your type that way. Ultimately is it only 1 answer among many and can not change your type because 1 answer is different from the rest.
    But the ultimate test in figuring out your type is to try on the lines and shapes from each type. Tailor Swift is obviously a Flamboyant Gamine - because those are the lines that look best on her. It's not the style she is wearing - it is the lines. When she try's to wear Dramatic lines she looks utterly ridiculous. It looks completely separate from her. You can find photos of her everywhere in clothes that are focused on a long, vertical line in 1 color or monochrome. It NEVER looks good on her. Flamboyant Gamine lines on the other hand, look fantastic on her. Broken, straighter lines with some aery-ness (lighter fabrics). And you can't even entertain her possibly being a Natural - she has ZERO width to her what so ever. And natural lines DO NOT look good on her what so ever. We all know Soft Dramatic is right out - she obviously does not fit that type. She is no where near moderate - so Classic is out. Nor is she made up of short, rounded lines, nothing curve dominant about her - so Romantic is out. The only category she fits is Flamboyant Gamine - her flamboyance just happens to be her vertical line. Look at the lines, not the style. The lines that look best on her are FG. Dramatic lines just look weird on her - sorry - not sorry.
    I DO AGREE that people have GOT TO stop confusing your STYLE with the body types of D,N,C,R,G. Being a Dramatic does not mean you have to follow any sort of style. You can be a Dramatic who dresses in lolita, goth, victorian, or casual. You can be a Romantic who dresses very buttoned up and polished, plain, goth, or casual. You can be a very sophisticated Natural or Gamine. The types do not equate to a certain style. It is just a set of shapes and lines in which to guide you in your exploration of style. STYLE & BODY TYPE ARE NOT THE SAME!!!!!!! STOP WITH THE STEREOTYPES!!!!!!
    I honestly think Kibbe is just a bunch of jibberish now whom only cares about making money and looking special. I think there are much better, more modernized and updated revisions on the yin-yang methodology of the types. Your type is your bone structure, your lines and shapes. Not your measurements. And there are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule.

    It’s really difficult to type yourself when you’re new to kibbe and above average height and look soft without a strong vertical. I’m 5’9 but look about 5’6 or possibly even shorter due to having a big head and short limbs. I’m also extremely hourglass and look wide so I really don’t have a strong vertical line at all. I look very average. I’ve typed myself very wrongly in the past. When I was new to Kibbe and took the test I wound up thinking that I was “a tall and broad-shouldered romantic” because everything on me looked round (I know now that no such thing exists lol) or a “tall and broad” soft natural. Hearing descriptions like “curve dominant” wasn’t helpful as the first thing that you see when you look at my body is a tiny waist in comparison to my hips and busy line (32H). I’ve come to terms that I’m a large framed and slightly overweight flamboyant natural but damn does it suck when it feels like the recommendations for your type really don’t work for you.

  • @nastiaandrej

    I'm 5'5 and I'm so confused. In all those Russian "Kibbe's pages" the girls always says that I'm Romantic or Gamin, because I'm 5'5. And that's so alogical, because none of Romantic or Gamine (or even Natural) recommendations work on me. It just happens that the whole my life I was on this "elongate clothes" side and it actually fits me (although I can wear something straight and petit as well, but it makes my body really weird).
    So what I'm trying to say is that the biggest problem is that internet is fulled by people who have a pattern in their minds in which they try to collect others. And that's quite a problem because in order to finally find you style you should go the whole circle of useless recommendations and buy the stuff that never complements your body or yourself.
    So I thank you, Aly, because your unique interpretation makes me feel so confident about which type is really mine. Nowadays I don't struggle anymore and feel myself in Classic or Dramatic Classic recommendation more than confident and actually beautiful. I really thank you for all the work you've done and (I hope) will do !

I think I'm soft dramatic, but I'm not quite sure. I might be flamboyant natural as well. I just can't see my bone structure that well now when I'm overweight. I don't see the width flamboyant naturals have in me, but maybe I can't observe myself that well.

  • @loveliptontea

    But not all women fit into one of the 3 tall types. What if you are tall, have a moderate width for your height, bones that are neither sharp or blunt and moderate curves? You are not sharp and curvy enough to be a soft dramatic, not sharp and narrow enough to be a dramatic and not broad and blunt enough to be a flamboyant natural. Maybe a solution to that is to take the classic lines and stretch them? So moderate details, moderate width and shape+ length.

I have a feeling, but i dont know if this is true or possible, that i have just a broken line cus i have short(er) arms and legs but my torso looks elongated or maybe they think im taller cus of my essence or i look small but less small then most small women they know/see. What do you guys think/can you explain this to me cus this is what made me the most confused while looking for my type.

      If you feel truly average in everything (no soft lips, no prominent nose, no prominent cheeks or cheekbones, etc.), then you are average.
      If you feel mostly average with a softness - Soft Classic, or with a little bit dramatic touch, then dramatic classic.
      If your vertical line is very strong, but you are not fleshy, then dramatic.
      If you look like a literal Goddess then you are Soft Dramatic. :)

    I'm having the worst time trying to decide if I am a Soft Dramatic, Soft Classic, or Dramatic Classic. I chose a lot of Ds and Es in the quiz. I definitely have softness, a long torso, and curves. I am 5' 8.5" With super soft and fleshy features, big eyes, and rounded features (see profile pictures). My lips are definitely not full enough (and I'm not short enough) to be a true romantic, but I don't really appear exotic like Sophia Lauren. I have pretty small hands, nose, and facial features (unlike soft dramatic) with tapered/sloped shoulders. Based on my profile picture, do you think you could comment on what you think my features (and body description) point to? I REALLY want to put this to rest.

    I'm a 5'6 FN. Took me ages to realize this because I have a moderate hourglass and large breasts, and am not super tall like the stereotype, but I realized SN isn't quite the right match since I need to accommodate for vertical when I dress more than curves. Don't be dissuaded from FN just because it's known as the "runway model" id. Don't be dissuaded from SC/DC because think your nose is crooked or some other detail like that. It boils down to what it is that you have to accommodate for when you dress.

    I disagree about Gamines. Audrey Hepburn was FG and she was 1.70. I am 1.70 and there is no other type I could be - I have long slim vertical line in my body, but very soft facial features, full lips and fleshy cheeks. I get told I look 'teenage' a lot. I look best in FG hair and clothing, period. But it took me so long to figure out I could be FG because everyone keeps emphasizing they should be smaller and you can't be any Gamine if you are tall

      Same here! I am 5´8´´, have long, narrow arms, legs, long collar, narrow hips etc. But I have a quite big head and very fleshy cheeks, and short Gamine-Hair fits me best. Everyones first impression of me is "delicate" and "young girl". When I see pictures of me, I see a FG. I think it´s a good trick: take a look at the photos of you, it is much more easier to then recognize your Kibbe Type than by looking into the mirror.

It’s just her individual facial features (large eyes, wide forehead, full cheeks) that give her that ‘cute’ look...the facial bone structure underneath is still clearly N (wide, blunt). I've been almost sure I'm a classic until now. Can I still be a classic with 5,9 height? I've got a long vertical line and a little bit dramatic bone structure, but my face is totally soft with no sharpness (I think so) and even if I gain weight that's not very visible, everything is proportional. Does anyone have the same problem?

    • @user-vk8vk4wu6l
      @user-vk8vk4wu6l 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      face isn’t really that important, kibbe is more about the whole look, instead of details. at 5’9 you must have vertical and you said that you see drama in your bone structure, therefore you are most likely a pure dramatic. weight gain is more of an individual thing, but from personal experience I noticed that yang dominant types can get away with a few extra kgs, as it tends to be distributed more evenly throughout the whole body(elongation really helps with that), thus making it hardly noticeable
