      You're probably right. Something that I read years ago was that Classics can dress head to toe in 100% classic clothing and look right, but other types need to tweak it in order to fit their personality type. I would have added, face type and body type, too. For example, I'm a Soft Dramatic. Although I buy mostly classic styles, I raise the wattage a bit with statement accessories or bold color.

    But most neutral palettes are way too warm for olive skin and then too cool tones look awful on me because I’m muted. The few things I find for olive skin talks about darker complexion for me so I’m really struggling. Love you!🤍

    I think that my wardrobe is not minimalist in common sense, but it is minimal to me.
    Like, I don’t wear black and navy, these colors wash me out and make me look sick.
    I replaced them with warmer colors: brown, rust, burnt sienna, orange. I mostly got rid of pure white and snow white pieces (I mean white with blueish undertone). Cream and off-white are better for me. Also, I choose warmer grey, greige and taupe instead of cool greys.
    Overall, my wardrobe is curated, almost every piece is intentional, it is cohesive and solid in terms of style, but colors I wear are not considered minimalistic. Have never seen orange color being included into “minimalist wardrobe” concept. And that will put me somewhere in between.

      Great suggestion. Also do look up "how to wear vintage successfully" for styling ideas, see if there is someone whose body type looks similar to yours. Be very wary of wearing "classic " "timeless" garments that happen to be vintage. classic styles will notoriously make you look older and frumpy if you are not a classic body type.

The top of the dress (collor and lapels) are not my normal look, but Donna Karan balanced the masculine or structured lines by making it a wrap front. I would say, that extra pounds tend to be more noticable on a narrow frame. So a gamine or dramatic would look 'overweight' much more easily, then a natural or especially a romantic type. If you have curves, a bit of extra weight elsewhere won't be nearly as noticeable then if you don't.
      But it also depends on where you carry your weight. A woman with a protruding belly will probably be perceived as 'heavier', then one with wide hips/ass, because it's not associated with 'feminine curves'.
      And then athletic women often weigh much more then you would think. If you have a nice layer of muscle all over your body, it'll add quite a bit of weight, but I won't make you look 'heavy'.
      That's just my observations, hope it helps a bit.

    • @soomiij
      @soomiij ปีที่แล้ว

      @@raraavis7782 it all makes sense, thank you. but i still can’t figure out what my body type is 😭 people always guess im taller and weigh way less than i am (im about 165 cm and 54.9 kg but ppl guess 170 cm and 45 kg) but i’ve also been told i have a petite body frame. i have curves but too small to call myself an hourglass (they’re not even noticeable w oversized clothes lol) if you have any idea what my body type would be, can u please lmk?

    • @raraavis7782
      @raraavis7782 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@soomiij Hm. Maybe those people are just very bad at guessing 😅.
      I'm 1,72 and currently weigh about 65kg. (Which is certainly a little too much and I'm working on it, lol) but I was very thin as a teen... around 55kg, with my lowest weight 51...but I was borderline anorexic at the time and teachers started to 'ask questions' about my well being and such. That's how scarily thin I already looked.
      So if people think, you weigh 45kg at 1,70...they probably just don't know, what they're talking about. That would mean a BMI of under 16 and make you very severely underweight.
      Whereas 55kg at 165 sounds very reasonable and healthy.
      But anyways. You're a little small for a dramatic (who tend to appear taller, as I understand it). But Gamines, who are typically petite, usually don't appear tall.
      Naturals are usually easy to identify (imo), because they have an 'athletic' look to them, even if they aren't. But classics, again, don't usually appear taller then they are.
      What kind of clothes do you feel suit you best? Sometimes it works better, to approach this from that angle. Assuming, of course, that you are old enough, to have tried different styles and types of clothing. Would you feel pretty in a flowery dress with ruffles? A lady suit? A boho dress? Does plain and minimalist work for you? Do you love big, bold accessoires? Sometimes, the things we have already chosen as favorites in our wordrobe, are very telling.

    Hi Aly. I have another question for you! I noticed my daughter fits the body type of ingenue, but then I realize that's not one of the Kibbe types! What is the closest Kibbe types to the ingenue type (I think it's part of a system called Kitchener?)? I'm guessing it might be flamboyant gamine, but I don't think that quite fits the bill the same as ingenue. Thanks in advance

    • @lilaeia
      @lilaeia ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ingenue being petite yin, FG would be too much yang. Gamine has undercurrent yang, and the Dramatic (flamboyant) addition is adding more yang.
      As someone who is Ethereal-Ingenue-Romantic in Kitchener, and very familiar with his system, I’d say Ingenue is closest to being a subset of Romantic, just much more youthful. Could also be Soft Gamine, if there’s some yang in the mix. Or even Theatrical Romantic, where yin is dominant and yang just adds a little sharpness. Kibbe doesn’t cater for any pure yin types other than Romantic. Kitchener has Ingenue as the step more yin than Romantic, and Ethereal as the extreme yin.
      If she is truly an Ingenue, it sounds like she would be all yin. Just small-scale yin as opposed to Romantic’s medium-sized prints.
      Is there any particular reason for needing to type her in Kibbe’s system if she’s found a good match in Kitchener’s system? I am a Romantic in Kibbe’s system because he doesn’t offer anything else for all-yin ladies. But it’s REALLY hit-and-miss. As a VERY dominant Ethereal, I have found myself in Kitchener’s system and don’t feel the need to squeeze myself into a box I don’t really fit into, with Kibbe’s system. I just watch everything, cos… Aly!! 😂😜

      @@lilaeia thank u for all the info. Very interesting! No very special reason to want to know it. I thought maybe someday I can direct her to look into it because I know how much benefit it’s brought to myself and my self confidence by determining my type (soft gamine). It makes one more comfortable in their own skin when they know what style looks best on them.

    • @lilaeia
      @lilaeia ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SolutionsWithin Agreed!! Self-understanding is invaluable!!! 🤗 I was struggling with the Romantic suggestions, since key aspects like having a long vertical line (within a petite frame) means needing long garments or otherwise long visual line (like monochromatic looks), rather than short vertical aspect such as cropped pants or shorter hemlines suggested for Romantics. Discovering that I’m an Ethereal makes SO much more sense!! And having a short waist means belts or waist demarcation (Romantics) is all kinds of wrong on me. Also mid-sized prints drown me out. Ethereals do better without waist demarcation, and with abstract prints in low colour contrast combinations.
      The point being, when you find yourself and the recommendations that work… stick with that! Whatever system it’s in. I can’t find myself in several other systems out there, and Kibbe doesn’t work for me… but it gave me a platform to springboard off from. Understanding that I’m all yin was a great start. I couldn’t see myself objectively enough, and thought everything was “middle-of-the-range”. Meaning I placed myself as C on everything in the questionnaire, which resulted in a false outcome of Classic. I lack the symmetry - I can tell now that I’m much deeper down the rabbit hole lol. But in the beginning of the journey, I couldn’t tell what was balanced, sharp and soft. And I had no notion of how petite my bones look lol. [Possible body dysmorphia!! 🙈]
      I think if your daughter is representing an Ingenue, roll with that. Try the short lines, high necklines, small-scale round patterns, pastel colours and sweet styles of Ingenue and see if it brings out her best. And if not, play with adding other essences until she finds her unique balance. It might be that she is dominantly Ingenue and her secondary essence is needed to bring harmony. For example, whilst I am dominantly Ethereal, without the hint of sweetness (Ingenue) in my mix, something of “me” is missing. If she has Natural as her secondary essence, for example, dressing all Ingenue might be missing the approachability and groundedness of the Natural’s influence. Also, as she gets older, her other essences might play more of a role. Ingenue will always be there, but part of looking like a little girl is young age. At some stage, it might make more sense dressing her as a Natural-first (in the above example), with Ingenue influence, rather than the other way around. Or whatever it is her secondary essence is! Rachel from Truth Is Beauty has a WONDERFUL Excel questionnaire that allows you to figure out your ratio of your top three essences, if you decide to dive further into the essence system rather than Kibbe! I love Kitchener’s system to bits, and eventually would love to be formally trained in it and give consultations and run workshops. For now, I‘m self-taught lol. Hope you find what works best for you and your daughter!! 💖
      Hope all of that makes sense!!
      Love,
      Lilaeia.
      💝

      @@lilaeia Hi Lilaeia. Wow! So much info you’ve shared here! Thank you very much. I am saving your comment in the email mitigation so I have it for reference! Lol. 😀 You’ve convinced me to look into Kitchener more. I was avoiding it because I’m still getting used to focussing on validating my Kibbe type with my clothing choices (over the last few years I kept forgetting about it after awhile and would often head back down the “wrong” rabbit holes at the clothing stores! Now I am committed to taking it more seriously. I was also worried the the Kitchener system may have so much leeway so as to “allow” you to have too many combined essences or types so that I was concerned it could get messy and loose in theme, kind of like mixing too many colours together on a paint pallet when painting (mixing too many just makes the colour mud colour). So if I’m going to have the focus and discipline to stick to a style and buying clothes that compliment my style, I need it to be clean (focussed). But, now I do have an interest, at least for my daughter’s sake, to look into Kitchener. It seems like you would make a wonderful stylist. If you live it, you should do it! I wish you all the luck and blessings! 💗🙏

      They are kind similar. If you had to chose by the big families you think are more R or G ? If your main characteristic is the softness with a bit of sharpnes you are probably TR. If your main characteristic is a narrow body you are probably the SG. Also consider other things like do you have long arms or long legs to your height. Another test is closer or open necklines. If you are TR open neckline will be better.

    I am so confused about my body type at this point. My face has always been very Gamine, kinda childish looking with huge eyes, people comparing me to Tim Burton characters my whole life but I always felt like I am too tall (168 cm) and not naturally petite to be that. For a few years I weighed a bit more and my body appeared to be a typical pear shape - very narrow shoulders, narrow waist and noticeably bigger hips and thighs (around 65cm-102 cm for those two last parts) and I noticed I always gain most of the weight on my hips, then a bit on my arms and face. But now I lost a lot of weight and my waist stayed the same but my hips are 90 cm now and also my shoulders appear to be a wider and more angular and overalls I feel like I look very different now, more balanced and that makes me confused 😢 I dress kinda minimalistic but I still haven't found my fav silhouette so idk :/

      i understand the weight loss and body type change. i still can’t determine my proportions in a body type. i’m shorter (5’4”) and don’t look dramatic bc of vertical line, but my face might be dramatic. i have a very short waist and long arms but not petite enough in the hips and arms for FG. i really want my body type done so i can get some clothing and feel good. i lost a lot of weight too, so it’s hard to tell what i am anymore. i could have known prior to gaining weight, but i just don’t know where i fit. thanks for sharing!

    Can you do a video on dressing androgynously for all the body types? I’m non-binary, and often how I want to present myself is attractive, radiant and put-together, but not overtly masculine or feminine… so, androgynous! I feel like the only way I see androgyny depicted is on tall, lean figures and usually with an emphasis on the masculine. I would find it FASCINATING to see your interpretation of androgyny across the kibbe spectrum because so much of it relates to yin and yang energy. I am a dramatic classic, so I already have quite a balance of yin and yang, and I find I have to be subtle in my expression of androgyny or else it quickly dips into feeling too costumey and not feeling cohesive. It’s fun and affirming to find ways to express myself in a way that feels like a natural blend of masculine and feminine elements, like wearing sturdier fabrics and high neck lines but emphasizing my waist, or pairing a fitted a-line skirts with a mandarin-cut jacket and sturdy flat-soled boots. There’s obviously no single way to be androgynous and “androgyny” can be interpreted a thousand different ways, so I would love to see *your* interpretation of androgyny through the body types and how to play with masculine and feminine elements in a way that incorporates both and finds a harmony between them. Thanks!
