ANC members within the SA National Defence Force are using their
positions to carry out violent acts in the name of their
organisation, Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Chief Mangosuthu
Buthelezi, said on Sunday (12/11). He was speaking at a sports
ground near Estcourt, south of Durban. About 10,000 IFP
supporters gathered to hear Chief Buthelezi's speech in which he
claimed that 4 people every week are buried as a result of the
continuing violence in the area. "Unless we win the next
elections in March," he said, "violence is not likely to stop in
this province." IFP Senator Phillip Powell alleged that he had received information that 4 members of the ANC military wing Umkhonto we sizwe, dressed as national soldiers, were being sent to make an
attempt on Chief Buthelezi's life on Monday (13/11).

IFP senator phillip powell, SOT in enlgish saying he had received
information on friday that four members of the ANC military
wing were reported to be coming here to attempt to take
Buthelezi's life
buthelesi SOT: in english saying i have reported this to cabinet
as a member of the govt of national unity.. to the minister of
defence and the minister of safety and security but i have
received no reponse to my claims... instead Mr Mufamadi
(Minister for safety and security) is busy giving interviews
,after the arrest of the generals, that he may arrest me also.
I hope they think very carefully before doing such a thing.
cutaway
buthelezi SOT: we must realize that unless we win the next
election violence is not likely to stop in this province and i
think defeat will open the door to increased violence and may
reduce the protection for the people in this province. it is
therefore not an understatment to say that for the IFP as a
party.. winning the next elections with an overwhelming
majority is really becoming a matter of life and death

Shenge was once a problem.
A PROBLEM TO WHO?
Biggest sellout ever. Working with De klerk
In the 1980s ANC started a campaign of violence and terrorism against other rival movements. Inkatha had a non violent plan for the democratic transition, but the chiefs of ANC did not agree.
