However if I could live in Italy or California, this car is a must. Such a wonderful sound too!! Anyway my dream car, no doubt
I found a finished kit Cobra and it was going for $37k, so it's not that bad on price. But I have taken a ride in a real Cobra and a kit Cobra and you absolutely can tell the difference between them and the chassis used for the kit has a lot to do with it... The brand and frame design makes a huge difference. ERA for example took the original frame and improved those areas of weakness. Some replicas are just a junk slap together of various parts without a lot of thought.
I test drove one at Superperformance in Redwood City. One I learned not all Cobras are created equal. Don't think you're just going to be able to get in this car and drive it. Well you can drive it. But I kind of think it's going to take a couple of months to get used to. I drove one for 45 minutes and my body was sore. I felt a little beat up. It was a 427 with a Tremec in it. You have to stay on task the entire time you were in the vehicle. Your orientation to the vehicle should include how to get in and out of the car. When you downshift you get a little muzzle blast from that exhaust pipe the exits right at the door. What I realized was I'd probably be okay with the smaller setup. The slabside 289 and a 4-speed. I'm 60 years old. I'm in observational driver, I like to ride around and look at stuff and listen to the radio. I don't drive in the 90th percentile. Superperformance builds a nice car. A beautiful body already stuffed for $90,000. That's pretty cool.
I hear ya. That’s why I took it easy on this one. I think any car you drive needs to be gradually increased as you learn the tendencies of what it does under braking, acceleration and turning. But sooner or later I really want one of these

People wanting a car like this with over 500 hp have never owned one I was a Shelby dealer and owned Shelby 427S/C powered by a Shelby aluminum 427 based FE I always tried to talk my buyers into getting the mildest tune or they wouldn't drive it because they would scare themselves or wreck the car. And many did both. I worked on a deal with a high-performance driving school in Phoenix to train my buyers on how to handle a Cobra. Those that took the course did 2 things thereafter. 1 they liked driving it 2 they didn't destroy it. If I were to do it again I would opt for the 289 Street version Those side pipes get hot, the floorboards and firewall get hot and so do you running a big block. But opening the hood and seeing a small block engine makes people laugh. Plus there is no way you can use 500 + hp or trq on the streets or highways. The car weighs about 2000 pounds, even with the fat rear tires, even running Goodyear racing tires which have a soft compound for max grip, you can not get the tires to hook up using more than a small percentage of the engines output. I would always warn my new buyers, "You had better have the car and front wheels pointing straight ahead and be easy with the throttle or else..." Those that didn't take me seriously often called back asking about repairs because the crashed. Heavy cars need more power to accelerate at the same rate than much lighter cars require .
I've noticed people seem to never take weight into consideration when talking horsepower. Weight is just as fundamental as engine power when discussing how fast something is. SMH
Glass absolutely, weight is a huge factor in how fast something can accelerate and just as important, how fast it will decelerate. People are so focused on the acceleration and willing to pay to improve it, yet give no thought to improve the decel rate because they don't understand the effect weight has.
Sorry but I have to clear a few things up.. Backdraft is NOT a Kit car it is exactly like the Superformance. They are both made in South Africa. They both ship with out a motor and transmission. I have a Backdraft Cobra BD3 it is a box frame not a tube frame. Just because Superformance paid to be licensed by Shelby America does not make it any better than any other manufacturer. A kit car is the Factory Five Racing's version of the Cobra. With any of the Cobra replicas out there depending on suspension, brakes, motor, transmission and so on is the way the car is going to "feel". If you're getting paid to promote Superformance that's great! Just don't knock another companies quality and call it junk when it truly is not.
Cobra kit car manufacturer, Backdraft Racing is known for attention to detail that makes every custom roadster and authentic replica the very best. This is copy and paste from Backdraft website...
@@AutotopiaLA The only reason it is classified as a "kit" car is because it does not come with a motor and transmission. Just like guess who? Superformance. Do you consider a Superformance a "kit" car? Or a replica?
There are no manufacturing plants producing Cobra's. BD and SP are made in performance shops. Therefore, they're all kit cars. The only thing making them "smoother" than other kit cars and an original is their customized square frames... Definitely adds a ton of weight, definitely NOT original definitely takes a lot of the fun out of driving. Guess I'm agreeing with you.
My Dad, God rest his soul, wanted one of these so bad. He went to Louisiana to test drive one, he said it was the bomb. My mom vetoed the purchase of one.
I’ve got an electric blanket that plus into the cig lighter. Originally bought it for the wife, started using it myself; just tuck it around your legs, seals up the floor to dash, which suddenly makes the heater functional!
Hold on a sec - Backdraft is not a kit car, Factory Five is. The Backdrafts also use a modern (well a late 90's) BMW M3 suspension, so I would expect it to be quite gooda s compared to anything that has an original 1965 design. And Superformances are also 2-3X what a Backdraft sells for. Don't get me wrong I'd love to have one of these. Looking forward to replies to see if I have my info straight.

People wanting a car like this with over 500 hp have never owned one
I was a Shelby dealer and owned Shelby 427S/C powered by a Shelby aluminum 427 based FE
I always tried to talk my buyers into getting the mildest tune or they wouldn't drive it because they would scare themselves or wreck the car. And many did both.
I worked on a deal with a high-performance driving school in Phoenix to train my buyers on how to handle a Cobra.
Those that took the course did 2 things thereafter.
1 they liked driving it
2 they didn't destroy it.
If I were to do it again I would opt for the 289 Street version
Those side pipes get hot, the floorboards and firewall get hot and so do you running a big block.
I would always warn my new buyers, "You had better have the car and front wheels pointing straight ahead and be easy with the throttle or else..."
Those that didn't take me seriously often called back asking about repairs because the crashed.
Heavy cars need more power to accelerate at the same rate than much lighter cars require .
I hear you and agree for the most part and still prefer the additional power but obviously have to be light on throttle input
Love dogue’s daytona and 40
Ah, the perfect car for a new driver in the winter.. 😏😏😏😏
Yes let the butthurt flow through you young jeti
There are no manufacturing plants producing Cobra's. BD and SP are made in performance shops. Therefore, they're all kit cars. The only thing making them "smoother" than other kit cars and an original is their customized square frames... Definitely adds a ton of weight, definitely NOT original definitely takes a lot of the fun out of driving. Guess I'm agreeing with you.
Love the sound and bobble head torque🤪
Christopher Marechal so fun
Epic car, epic driving roads 😎
Steve Daire epic is the perfect word here 👊
Great vid !
Thank you 👊
That sound! Electric cars? No thank you!
Best sounding car imo
Right on!
Gonna take us for a ride in the Daytona Coupe next? Hmmmmmmm? Exciting vid, thx!
Yes!! They’ve promised we can shoot one and I can’t wait for that!
My Dad, God rest his soul, wanted one of these so bad. He went to Louisiana to test drive one, he said it was the bomb. My mom vetoed the purchase of one.
Sorry to hear that. These are so much fun to drive!
BAD ASS!, Im wondering if the ERA Cobras are also a production car, not a kit?...great video, those side pipes never get old as he said lol! Thanks!
Sidepipes rule!
I love the roush engine, so sweet sounding 😍
Awesome.....
You can tell Doug is living his dream. 7:36
James Nichols he really is. Loves what he does
@@AutotopiaLA that's awesome. You can tell he enjoys it. Can tell Shawn is enjoying it too.
I drive mine about 3 times a week, even in the winter. Just bundle up
I’ve got an electric blanket that plus into the cig lighter. Originally bought it for the wife, started using it myself; just tuck it around your legs, seals up the floor to dash, which suddenly makes the heater functional!
Sticking a stonking great V8 into a sexy British 2 seater sure is a recipe for automotive perfection.
This is what’s motivating me to stay in school
And me to keep working!
That's the second 427 small block I ran across this week! the other was a Chevy. Sounds good, even if I'm not a Ford guy !
Get Some 😮
Why did VW bother showing me an ad on this video?
I came here to watch this awesome Cobra. Yeah, I’m not gonna buy a Passat. 😂
We have no control over the ads that are run. I won’t be buying a Passat either lol!
Incredible-
Finn Green truly is
I love this thing
What a noise !!!!
Possibly the best sounding car ever!
My wife love this car. I love this garaje. Espectacular
Great to see Doug Campbell here!
Before I die this is the exact Cobra I want. But Red with white stripes.
They’re so much fun to drive! Gotta have one too
AutotopiaLA
If I win the next Powerball drawing I'll buy you a Cobra!!!!!!
That is actually you dude! You need that car for real
MAGNETIC RESONANCE I know believe me. Working on it
Hold on a sec - Backdraft is not a kit car, Factory Five is.
Technically they’re all kits. Having driven the Backdraft and Superformance cars my preference is Superformance especially the Mk3 like in this video
Tooo much fun!
Incredible!
I need to have one too!!
Daniel Ortiz yes!
A Kaase Boss9 Boss 429 would look so badass in that.
I NEED TO COME UP WITH $92K JEEEEZZ !
What beautyful car....! I Love it....! ❤️💞💓🤤🤤🤤🤤
Such an old shape yet still so beautiful, simply stunning car.
I’m with you here 👊
Great sounding car!
Sure is. I want this car so badly
