- This time I have filmed a brutal Ac Cobra which has been modified with a supercharged engine. The engine output is around the 900HP! It did some head to head drag racing during the 1/4 Mile! Enjoy the video.

What a magnificent machine and an incredible event. The only sad thing is that many of the people at this event have more respect for American muscle cars than some Americans. Just another example proving if you make something of quality with passion, the whole world will take notice. Well done. Events like this show how cars can bring people together from all around the world.

Forget ugly "super cars " , the cobra was pure art ,. the lines flowed effortlessly from front to back . those were the days when humans designed the shapes of cars , not sterile look alike computer models .

James said he loves that people in other countries love American muscle, you said English body, I said only one of them (the Cobra) has an English body, of the rest of the cars in the video are American. Since the Cobra in the video is a kit car, I said, good chance it was made in S. Africa, (that's where they make the kits).

Remember AC was a British car company. The AC ACECA and then AC ACE before the Cobra. But it took shelly to stick a proper engine in her.

AC Cobra was built in Britain NOT U.S.
One of my nearby neighbors had a garage sale. I peaked in the back of the garage and spotted one of these cobras… I started talking to the man in his 80s about the car. He has owned the car since new. He had many pictures on the wall in his garage of his car in competition in some type of a auto cross event, where they have cones set up in a large parking lots, and the time how long it takes you to get through the course. This was the man’s second cobra. His first one was a 427.. he replaced it with his current car that he’s owned for decades with a 289..
he keeps the car, absolutely spotless, and he does not compete anymore. He has all the history and documentation and trophies he wow with his cobra..
you never know what you will see sitting in the back of some people’s garages..
That car is still an original beast back then in 1969. It still feels like driving in the oldies' era 🤩

When you can skid your wheels in the 3rd gear doing already 100, that thing has massive power. Probably wider wheels needed. My favorite car.
My 335d when tuned and modded......slightly.... would spin the Pilot Sport Cup tires at 100 when the boost came up.....its an interesting feeling to have to HOLD ONTO the car like that....lol

@@johncunningham4820 Yeah, that's why almost all Cobras have Chevy under the hood. There are far more that way in replicas than Ford ever made. It's called upgrading.
@K It's on the skills of the builder. FF replicas are very good stuff, better I think than the factory cars were. Knowing they would only build a handful, reliability & quality were not at the top of the list over at Ford. They were only looking for performance numbers to get bragging rights.

I've driven several of them back in the mid 60's. 289 and 427, both were like riding on a dart.
That Cobra should be running much harder than it is. Mid 11's...should be mid 10's if it has 900 hp. My '66 Buick GS runs low 11's
He is easing it off the line. If he had drag slicks and launched hard with good traction he would easily be in the 10's. 900hp in a car that light would have no problem turning those times.

I've ran 12.9 with 310hp in a 4.6 mustang that weighs 3200lbs without me. This car is overkill on power and underkill on suspension/tires. With that said, it's fucking beautiful and I wouldn't make a it a drag only car either if I owned it. Right suspension/slicks probably looking at a high 8's car if the rest of the drivetrain can hold up.

We built a few of these at Roush engineering in Livonia Mi. And used the original aluminum body’s. Jacks personal car was a 488 cid dual quad auto. Fast and his car. Early 80s and available new from ford dealers but I don’t remember how that worked out, I took off to Fl. To federalize euro spec cars, great days.
Drag racing in Europe is BIZARRE. Bumpy ass “drag strip”, flag girl, no helmet 😂 old school 🤘
It's uphill too, so the times only apply to that place.

The setup of the timing system is interesting to say the least. They get a bit of a running start and sensors pick up the body instead of tires.
No Brainer . That Mustang never has a chance against the Cobra
With approx. 900 HP and weighing about 1800 -1900 lbs that Cobra should be knocking on low 9's.not 11's

A 900 hp Cobra should be even quicker than that.
Would require different tires to get much more of the 900 to the ground and probably a few plates in the trunk. That's probably not a computer controlled throttle and there is no traction control. He was fighting smoking the tires the whole first half of the run, almost bit it hard one time on the 3rd run - and you do not want to crash one, its not a "safe" modern car, it wants to kill you. Just because it has more power doesn't make it quicker on the track....

900hp in 11s, he drives like my grandma, but it is a beautiful car.

What color is the AC Cobra @ 0:39 ? I'm thinking Cherry Red or some sort of wine color but, of course, it could be maroon, burgundy, or magenta. It's also @ 4:29 - 5:01.

900 hp doesn’t do 11.8 sec on a small car it would be 8 seconds at 900hp

That car actually makes big ass horsepower, but if you notice when he finally lays on the throttle all the way the car just snaps sideways... Those little cobras are very very deceptive little vehicles no way to put all of the horsepower to the ground without the threat of flipping the damn thing over

My cobra ran 12.34 on street tyres with 430 hp. 900 would be well into the 10s?

That Cobra driver had fear and respect for that much power under the hood.
As one should, no traction control or dynamic stability control on this beast. The first time you forget how thin the line between control and chaos really is, the beast will remind you. Then you find yourself in one of those "Failure" videos.
It's a street legal car in Germany on normal asphalt no glue like at your raceways but better than all of the Mustangs 😂🤣😂

I doubt the cobra makes 900 HP, if it does it's a "Turd" @ 11.84 it weights 2250 w/o driver. My 68 GTO weights 3600 w/o driver made 726 HP @ the wheel and ran 9.88 @ 137. Cobra 2450 w/dr @ 900 @ the crank with "shit traction" ( ain't smok'n the tires) should run low 9's to high 8's. In reality the Corba is making about 325HP @ the crank. The fella in the Cobra needs to "shit in 1 hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up first"...900 HP...in his dreams

How do you turn this on
My brother was a professional mechanic in the mid 70s. He built a Cobra and engine for the owner of a local drug store. Or the first test run they lost control of the car. The ambulance crew found them about 150 feet from the car. By some miracle they both survived, but neither can remember what happened. The car? It was a mangled ball of scrap metal. I don't know if anyone could handle putting the pedal to the metal in one of these cars. Shalom/gw
Flooring a Cobra is risky business. I've got drag radials on the back of mine and it's my daily driver. I also have a brand new set of street tires mounted on matching wheels that just sit in the garage - too dangerous for the street. It's got 615 crank hp.
Yea that cobra is not making even 600hp to crank. No way. The roush cobra factory next to us in South florida, my buddy tuned them all down the street and I was with him in a few from 300 to 600hp versions and the 600hp was just to much one treet for that light of car with the wheel base.
It's one of my dream cars to build, but no way in hell that's even close to 900 crank, every gear even easing into he would be ice skating.
Put a real cobra like that next to your roush on a drag strip and see what happnens.

It's set up for the road, tyres etc, put slicks on and not be so gentle off the line it's a different story, he is not showing you the cars full potential here

a friend of mine had a beautiful cobra replica with a 350 chevy engine and it was like opening a jewellery box when the hood was opened ..he decided to put side pipes on it but lost his job and lost interest in it and it sat untouched for 4 years untill he sold it at a loss!! very sad 🙁
