You seem like a new kid on the block of reactors - but I must say I'm very positively surprised by your reaction :D It was entertaining, and what I loved is that you GUESS (and that doesn't always go well, but that's part of the fun when you watch a movie) - the worst part I see from reactors is when they just straight up don't understand what the hell is going on :P
I also completely agree with your assessment of the movie :D All in all this was a great watch - thank you :D

yeah i love TDK trilogy, Nolan, Christian Bale and all the team did an amazing job but the batman is my favorite batman movie, Matt Reeves (director) and Rob Pattinson are huge batman fans and it shows cause this is the most accurate version of batman and gotham in a movie.
one thing Pattinson said is that, everytime his batman goes out and fights a criminal he imagines its his parent's killer, by beating that guy up, it gives him a satisfaction, he's kind of addicted, because for a short time he feels like he just saved his parents. ofc he does have an arc at the end where he realises that vengeance won't help, that he and the city needs hope and that is awesome character building, can't wait to see where bruce goes in part 2.
also a lot of this movie was shot during covid and yet it doesn't feel like it, movie's beautifully shot and there's some amazing practical stunts, for exemple the batmobile jumping through fire? thats not cgi, thats real.

@@sidneyjacques. I gotta be honest, I do, too. I like that Bruce Wayne is distracted by his mission -- nothing else matters. I feel like this whole flooding scenario is going to be part of why he starts trying to give a shit about what's going on in the city, not just the crime.
Like, the entire Wayne Enterprises "side-quests" from Batman Begins would be the next move. Meeting Lucius Fox and all that.

I knew I loved this movie when that first fight scene on the platform ended and I realized that... Batman didn't even so much as fondle a law, much less break one. He's not taking everybody out one at a time from the shadows, he's not keeping anybody from escaping, he's not running up on these juggalos, he's not threatening these dudes, he slowly walked from the shadows and everybody heard him and everybody saw him, there's not even so much as a "Hey, leave that guy alone," he tases a guy's spine to make him involuntarily discharge the last five rounds from his clip, those dudes watched him turn that guy into a fucking PIZZA and they still CHOSE to attack. But on the offhand chance that they pissed off some Mob Lawyer enough to actually try to do something about it, all Batman would have to do is send them the footage from his bodycam contact lenses, which are probably pointing out IDs the whole time. Everything was going to be just fine, but the second that guy raised the machete, it was all over and everybody's ass was done.
Best joke I've ever heard about this movie, though...
Turns out Gordon was the mustache with the broken nose all along.
Could you imagine how badly THAT would've gone?
"Jesus Christ! Get him! Somebody stop him! Hey, Gordon, you okay man!? What did he say to you?"
"He said, 'Who is the mustache with the broken nose?'"
"That son of a bitch is working with the Riddler!"

    • @reflectionist
      @reflectionist 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

But at the same time, they do a pretty good job of establishing that not everything Batman is doing is really the best way to do that. This is still Vengeance -- he's the guy that knocks on the front door and calmly walks in, beating ass the entire time until he gets to his objective. From "You know who I am?" to "Take it easy, sweetheart!" This guy is doing NOTHING but whooping ass wholesale.
At some point, he's gotta learn that it's probably easier and more effective to just go through the window of Penguin's office, without announcing his arrival, because he's not trying to inspire a bunch of people to start taking the law into their own hands. Fighting corruption in the city is great, but that doesn't mean he approves of people being inspired by him. The Dark Knight was relatively clean-cut about this, showing that the people inspired by Batman generally mean well. Brian "not the real Batman" Douglas says that he's a symbol that people don't have to be afraid of scum like Joker. The dude is SUPER dead, but that's heroic to say and it's reasonably admirable, even if it wasn't the smartest thing to say in that moment.
The Batman, on the other hand, was the first live-action movie to (successfully) point out that he's not doing this to be a hero and save the day, he's doing this because he's fucking traumatized and that anger's been the primary driving force behind "The Gotham Project" because Bruce Wayne died the night his parents did. He can't go back, he can't save them, he can't fix that, and he can't fix himself... he's convinced himself that anger and rage are all he has left to offer the world.
Alfred disagrees -- but it makes sense that Bruce wouldn't just take his word for it, because he's standing too close to the elephant. What changes is when he realizes that not ONLY does Alfred disagree... Selina Kyle disagrees... and Bella Reale disagrees... and the late mayor's son disagrees.
But you know who does agree? The asshole talking about how the mayor was a rich scum sucker who got what he deserved, and then showed up at the end after Batman beats the holy dogshit out of him while hopped up on adrenaline.
      "Who are you?"
      "Me? I'm Vengeance."
      DAAAAAAAAAMN.
(Sorry for the ramble- it's 4:20 somewhere.)

My biggest problems with this movie is that for how “realistic” it’s supposed to be, the batsuit is Superman level bulletproof/ invulnerable.
I didn’t want joker to show up.
The flying suit looked bad, and the jump cut after Batman crashes to him fine and talking to Gordon always throws me off

This is the only depiction of Gotham City that made me feel unsafe. It's not so much that crime is rampant to the point of anarchy, more like crime is so easily missed and no one can help you when it happens. Anyone could come out of that dark hallway, or a shadowy street corner, and hound you. If I lived in this Gotham, I wouldn't feel comfortable walking home alone at night, at least not without a weapon, and even then I don't like my chances. This Gotham is an awful place to live in.
This is also the only Batman film that made me understand how Batman uses fear. Back then it was just "Yeah yeah, he strikes fear into the hearts of criminal, whatever." Here, at the beginning, the way they show the criminals immediately hesitating and stopping what they're doing just to stare at the darkness, it evoked how a child would react waking up in the middle of the night to find their closet door open. Irrational fear at whatever may come out of that darkness. I hope the sequel shows us more of that.
Another thing I like is how well they incorporated the typical Batman villain goons. They're fanatics, extremists, following one crazy guy and reveling in their echo chamber. They're not just hired guns, they followed The Riddler out of their own free will. Same thing in The Joker movie, as someone else commented: "Now I understand how they always get so many followers."

Yeah, Nolan's Batman trilogy is great and all, but this Gotham makes me believe that a Batman would naturally turn up to personally clean up crime. He doesn't just take care of the big boys in mafias and gangs, but the little ones, the petty thieves. In the Dark Knight trilogy, he's always seen as just going after the big catches, and understandably so, but this Batman really gives off the idea that he's targeting everyone.
      Thanks for reacting.
