Owner of a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 since 2021, with 43000km done. I only have good things to say about the bike. Price/quality ratio, TOP TOP TOP!!
Royal Enfield have made big strides on the finish and detailing of its models in recent years, it really shows on models like this, but even the latest gen' Himmy 450 has a much more premium vibe to it than the outgoing 411cc bike.
Anyone who buys this model, and owns in for a while will eventually experience that "now I get it" feeling. I see the Shotgun 650 as being a cool looking, practical, minimalist workhorse around town bike which pays homage to 'messenger' bikes of the past. The only colours that appeal to me are the grey & green, which are the cheaper ones, so I can't complain about that. A big thumbs up to Royal Enfield for introducing this model.
Well done Toad you got through a whole review without swearing and referring to alcohol . Your reviewing is much improved as a result. Keep up the good work !
@@bananafoneable Yes! TH-cam doesn't like external links but if you google "TEC 2-1 Stinger Exhaust System for Royal Enfield 650 Models" you will find Tec's kit.
Very appealing to me. Looks to price value is spectacular. Mainly compared to Triumph. I live in the area of Bike Shed Moto and the canyon roads 😊. I sat on the Super Meteor and the position was way too foot forward for me. I didn’t even want to ride it.
They were seen being street tested, which is one of the last testing steps, once you see it being tested on streets it's 6-8 months away from the launch, so I think they might launch it in 2024.
This is almost a 650 classic. Just change the nacelle, and paint schemes. I am seriously considering a RE 650, but I have a Classic 350 and they require a lot of maintenance.
The funny thing is the Yamaha held the 650 spot with the Star 650 for ages the drop it and decided to go with the Bolt which didn’t do much here at the time the Harley 883 had that spot now everything has changed Harley have the nightster with the revamp engine but priced out of this market the Kawasaki Eliminator and 650 is the only other brand in this space the Shotgun is I feel incredible for this price point and will dominate this market like it has done with the Contental GT and interceptor
It's kind of a similar story here in the UK. There aren't many A2 ready cruisers. And the ones that are about don't seem to have the same premium feel as the RE.
the vibration feeling you’re getting in the mid range is a quirk of the engines ive found. RE riders often report that these vibes disappear after about 1,500 kilometers. personally i’ve experienced this, although i notice the vibes happen a little lower down instead, which is weirdly pleasant. almost rocks me to sleep.
It looks good. Rather heavy for a 650. I like the fact the pegs aren't fully forward. I'd probably enjoy riding it. I'm more interested in torque than power as I ride a Yamaha SCR950.
you only feel the weight at really low speeds, and it is all held very low in the bike. It's also got a solid feel to it, and seems nicely planted when you get it into a corner.
Makes sense to look at used especially with low miles. I bought a new one ( arrives in two weeks) because of price (under$8k), the 3 year warranty and the fact everything is new. I like the fact you can go tandem or solo with the rack.
47 hp isn't bad if it has decent torque. My Honda NC700X makes 47 hp & I'm happy with it. 270 degree crank & bore & stroke is 73 X 80 so at 75 mph it's only turning 3,500 rpm. But it's 474 pounds wet. Hopefully the Shotgun is under 500 pounds.
Sure would be nice to see a 750cc version of this. I know that RE is staying under the ridiculous HP limit for Euro and British riders but not all of us need that restriction. I rode the Super Meteor and this engine and tranny are very good. They just lack enough pull for those of us who weigh over 200lbs and still ride with a sense of purpose. Also, RE should ditch the "tripper" on their base models and put the damned speedo where it belongs. In the MIDDLE! Make a 60HP version with 60 lb ft of torque, put the speedometer where it belongs and, then, I'll buy one. Meantime, the Triumph T 100 is still calling my name.
Thanks for the comment! I'm sure with emissions reg's we'll see a 750cc one day, although whether it will have any more power remains to be seen! On the Tripper thing, in the Indian market (where most REs are sold) having a standalone Nav' is a very big deal, so I think that's driving it's use across a number of models.
Your probably right about the Tripper, but I don't need or want any unnecessary tracking devices. Offering an entry level without it would be a good idea, I believe. I'll, probably, be adding the T100 to my stable in a few months. It seems to answer all of my needs for a classic "Brit" style bike. I absolutely love that upgraded 900 engine. Not too many bells and whistles on that version of the Bonnie, either, and the clocks look so much better than the "Speed" version. BTW, I've ridden the Crest highway with my son when he lived in Ventura. Loved that wide, fast, and curvy road. We did it during the week so it wasn't too crazy. @@visordown
