Nice looking bike for the price point. Personally I don’t think any bike under 70hp needs riding modes or TC so don’t see that as an issue. I’m thinking this would be a great base motorcycle for some custom work.
I've got a classic 350 I've been learning on for the past 6 months. This looks like a great upgrade for when I'm ready to trade up. And 46 hp is plenty power!
I wish India would start making cars like 1980s Saab and Volvo. Just solid cars that aren't focused on performance. A bit like what Royal Enfield are doing. So bored with new soulless cars these days
I mean, we do make them. Cars here are more focused on feature, comfort and Mileage. Indians love their fuel economy. For performance, expect an average of 150hp and 250nm torque on most cars. They also love SUV cuz of the mindset of bigger=better. So just like anywhere in the world, sedans and hatches are on the decline while SUV’s are being sold more. But I’m pretty sure manuals will never go away from India. Mainly due to the low maintenance and higher fuel efficiency it gives.
@@nade9047 Modern CVT automatics (even though I hate them) are nearly always more fuel efficient than manuals. The simplicity of the manual is much more awesome also.
The myriad of Gov't limits in the US on car design keeps us from having simple old cars like the old honda civics. I was never enamored with the old Saabs and Volvos but love the simple cars.
47 hp if fine and it does put out a good amount of torque for its air cooled engine! It can go anywhere and ride anywhere in the world. My 2008 Harley that weighs about 300 pounds more only puts out 68HP and it is over 1000cc... I had a INT650 and MT-03 and they were about the same in the acceleration but the INT650 was much better on the highway WAY BETTER because it did not get thrown around
Good points there JJ ... added weight is a good thing, it gives you that 'planted' feeling. HP? Torque? I don't care ... it's all about propulsion and how it feels. I reckon the Shotgun is a great bike. I'd be happy to own one.
People who think 47bhp is fine, have never ridden a SV650. That's 68bhp, and is such a well balanced bike, with adequate performance that's still very managable for the inexperienced. Its not a sports bike, but that extra means you can still pass cars safely, and keep up to sped on a motorway.
@@jujuUK68 I agree with you but how much is the sv650, about 1.5k more, and does not have the classic look. Look at the Kawasaki w800, it cost about 4k more and has about the same power. It was more powerful, but honestly not a crazy difference, it has about 65hp. I bet it is because the rev curve during normal or fun driving,(not maxed out), is very similar or better on the int650. Both my MT-03 and INT650 were about the same in 0-60 and that is about 6seconds... that is better than most pony cars of about 10 years ago, before the hp wars.. RE is IMO taking the industry by storm. Not sure who took over but, they are nailing it. Just wish they would bring back the 500 RE Classic. This is the bike so many truly want. I have a few HD V-twins so going to a 350 is just to small. A 500 sounds better for me and others with middle ground of weight and power. Or RE could offer some BBK's getting the 350 near 500cc at least with some performance mods could be a fun ride. Great daily rider easy to get off stand and easy to get in out of garage.
Bought a 2020 650 Interceptor just before my 70th birthday. It felt anemic at 47hp/470 pounds so after 3 years I put WiseCo 83.5mm pistons and S&S cam in it. Totally different bike, now at almost 40,000 miles and I will keep it; meanwhile I cannot imagine the 47hp with another 60-70 pounds/bulk over the Continental GT and Interceptor.
Good on ya mate! I have an Interceptor too but here in India, the roads are so bad that even the 47 bhp seems a tad too much considering the handling prowess of this motorcycle. Would be careful if I were ya coz the stock suspension is not too good for a kitted out Interceptor and neither are the tires. Good luck...its a keeper of a motorcycle!
@@ashinterceptor I did both brake and suspension upgrades long before the engine modifications. Changed to better tires over 3 years ago, the first work I did to the bike when it was almost a year old.
Yeah, good all round decent value bike. But I have to say, if you do have a bit more cash, then the the hike in hp and torque does make it a more versatile machine. For what ever reason, for the last 6 years I,ve been just owning Triumph and Royal enfields, very pleased with these marques. Thanks for the video.
I can imagine giving more bhp to match its competitors will also up the cost of the rest of the components to keep up with the additional power but RE also has given the option to do so if you want and if we round up the costs to properly fit the upgrades, it will match the price/power of the competitors. I too have the Interceptor and it was just in budget for me as there are no 650 parallel twin in this price point.
I think a lot of people are missing the point. The bike is cool. Its a retro and looks great. Its a enthusiasts bike highly tunable with improvements in power with just a filter and you can go all the way to a bigbore kit. Its also easy to do your own servicing including valve adjustments. If you want a commuter get a commuter. If you want a tourer get a tourer. 😊.
Originally wanted the Shotgun but because they weren't available yet I went with Super Meteor 650. I'm definitely not disappointed. It rides and handles great , the HP is just right and I love the forward controls. Very happy with my purchase.
Sheet Metal Grey or Drill Green for me please. I wish this bike was fitted with Metzeler Cruisetecs as OEM tyre fitment. Overall, the Shotgun ticks the boxes for a modern-day "messenger bike". If I didn't already own a H-D Softail Slim, I'd probably consider the Shotgun as a daily workhorse doing beer deliveries (to my house of course!).
I think this is a great looking bike. I think the single bobber style seat looks great. I bought the Z650RS as soon as I passed my test last year but if the Shotgun was out then, I would have probably chose the Shotgun with the power being a little less etc.. I love my Z650RS but I'm not sure Ill ever be IN LOVE with it.

Interesting review. As a recent Himalayan rider (my wife owned it) I have to say I'm mighty impressed by RE. I err towards the simpler colour-ways but the styling is good for me.
Himalayan is not the best of RE ,but I'm glad u liked that.i would suggest trying other ones u want from RE.test drive and decide cuz u don't want to regret
Dude your editing has come so far. Loved the transitions between the workshop and on the road. Good review too. Always interesting to hear which bikes are compared to which bikes. This Enfield looks fun to ride and stylish as well as great value. That’s a pretty good combo.
The local Royal Enfield dealer offers a "software optimization" package with the purchase of 650 bikes. This supposedly creates around 60 HP and a substantial amount of torque increase.
Can you tell us more about it? First time I've heard of software updates unlocking more numbers in an RE. Have heard of hardware upgrades like performance camshafts and big bore kits
It’s looks very comfortable. My lower back does not like the cruiser position so this appeals more so than the super meteor. I don’t think 47hp was inadequate in the interceptor so it could make for a decent first big bike or a nice second bike for country lanes. Fit and finish looks to be getting closer to Triumph and potential buyers will have to weigh up the £2.5K price difference to the speed twin 900 with its greater power and torque, but also 25Kg less weight.
I still think the Royal Enfield 650 Interceptor is best to look at and most practical to ride. I got excited by Royal Enfield but now prefer again a Honda CB650R for the 4 cylinders or the Kawasaki Z650R for the retro looks and bench seat..
As a fellow Interceptor owner, I totally second your opinion. That bench seat, that 70's throwback styling, lesser weight (when compared to the Super Meteor or the Shotgun), better ground clearance, simple instrumentation...of course with the CB650R or the Z650R its a completely different (and pricier) ball game.
I went to a scheduled ride day yesterday and had two rounds on the super Meteor, which had been my intended purchase and then on the shotgun and then back to the Meteor. This bar is surprisingly more fun like quite a bit more than the super Meteor. The super Meteor is super comfortable and handles greatbut this bike handles better and although it’s the same engine, the on the shotgun has more spunk and I’m told that swapping out the mufflers can give you another 15 to 20% boost. I’m seriously considering the shotgun instead of the super Meteor. Definitely go ride both of them.
Its a sea change compared to the old Himmy. (Did an extensive test ride since I live in India). The new engine is way peppier than the old long stroke mill. Suspension, seating comfort, ergonomics are all on point. Great dash too. The only current downside is that the motor is a little vibey, hopefully the later iterations would be more refined.
Sat on one at excel and thought it was excellent vfm, and although static felt more comfortable than a triumph bobber and not everyone wants to be chin down arse up 200mph.I think it will sell to someone who wants an affordable, enjoyable toy
I just came back from a test ride and this thing stole my heart. The handling is amazing and I like the way it sounds. I'm really considering it for a city bike
Triumph perdió el encanto . No tiene motores de refrigeración por aire , que es donde está la gracia de estas motos , aspecto retro , sencillas y fácil mantenimiento. Además los motores de triumph calientan mucho ..
It is not oil-cooled! It is a simple air-cooled engine, with an additional oil cooler. Huge difference. An oil cooled engine uses oil as a coolant (as well). From the cooler the oil goes directly to the cylinder head and absorbs some of the excess heat before returning to the reservoir. This cooler is used to maintain the oil temperature, true, but the oil is not used as a coolant.
Not my cup of tea, but I am greatly impressed by this trick with the rear saddle and the subframe. Clever, practical, and doesn 't spoil any of the aesthetics of the bike - in fact it adds to them! Wish more manufacturers could come up with similar solutions, to make their bikes more practical without spoiling their looks.
That's a beautiful classic looking bike. I'm a V Strom 1050 owner an it would be a much better option for city rides. But taking in consideration its power and the fact that it has an air and oil cooled engine I would rather compare it to the Kawasaki W 800 instead of the 650 RS. Many thanks for sharing your experience!
I have a W800 and now a Shotgun 650. I'm keeping the Shotgun over the W800. The W does have more torque and pulls much harder at low revs. But the Shotgun handles MUCH better and of course does not have the serious vibration (3000 to 4500RPM) that the 350 crank in the W has. I also wanted to get away from all the chrome (beautiful on the W but work to maintain over time) and the tube tires (again, the wire spoke wheels are classic and look great, but the alloys with tubeless tires on the Shotgun win). Overall most important: the Shotgun mid controls and superior handling make for a more fun and more comfortable ride
@@cyclone411 Thank you so much for sharing your experience. You are definitely right. Besides the W 800 is way too expensive for a second bike. But I really like the Classic 350 more than the Shotgun in terms of design. So I guess I'll keep my shotgun locked and I'll pick the beauty...😀
Really a great value for the money. Beautiful machine and my favorite of all the RE 650s. However, CF Moto has a gorgeous water cooled 450 bobber making the same horsepower and has a 270 degree crankshaft for less money. RE should be updating the ponies.
Im not buying into this motorcycle bs of "X" hp isn't much..... 🙄 You have cars that have under 100 hp on the road and they do just fine everyday ..... Mitsubishi mirage, chevy spark, kia rio etc all around 100 hp and the only whiners are car "journalist's"
With the interceptor 650 having the same engine, and weighing at a kerb weight of 218kgs, why did they make the shotgun to weigh at a kerb weight of 240kgs?!! A solid 22kgs up hike!
To have a little 650 motorcycle referenced to as heavy or massive is just hilarious. Love the Europeans and sometimes Australians for their odd humor. RE finally starts to make a bike that you may be able to safely ride on the road and the big, massive, hefty, beast type words start coming forth. Too funny. Love the bike and it would be a nice little run about on the back country roads here in the states. I’d buy one but not paying the new purchase fees that bump it up into barely used Triumph territory.
I'm glad you mentioned the brakes. It sounds like a serious problem. I got my first motorcycle 46 years ago, a two stroke Suzuki GT550, and make several trips from Denmark to Southern France and Italy. I'm now looking for a new motorcycle for touring in my late sixties. Royal Enfield production quality in India seems to be great. The problem is, that the designers are English engineers. We all know, what that means. I will probably go for an old Japanese or Italian motorcycle. Thank you for the warning.
hi dont know if your engine light went out. i found when i bump start my bike the engine light comes on but when i turn it off for 10 mins it goes away . happend to me twice ?
I work at a RE dealership, I wish they made a chassis that wasn't so heavy. Employ some engineers if you have to. Renowned chassis builder my a$$, steel steel and plenty of it.
They're getting there. In India, (where I'm from) where they sell most of their bikes, having the huge heavy classic/bullet is such a status symbol that it's hard to pivot from. I genuinely hope they grow and expand into more segments emulating the Triumph brand model. Cheers!
@@leakedzebra so it's like riding a bull or a Harley Davidson, the worse it is the more manly you are? Or a painful tattoo to show you can handle pain?
I like it, except for that weight (back issues). When are RE going to make a 35-40hp single? I think Triumph are going to steal a lot of customers with the new 400, from both potential RE 350 and 650 buyers.
I would never go for RE. Saw 400ccm Triumphs last week, surprised me a lot. Such nice little bikes. RE to me looks a lot more agricultural. But those little Triumphs, man, Candy. And power/weight ratio seems a lot better too. Ut that is just my opinion.
Biggest negative is its weight how does it outweigh kawasaki z650 rs by almost 50 kilograms? pair that with 40 something horses compared to z650.Less power more weight and you can just imagine the kind of performance it can offer compared to same displacement motor.Royal Enfield 650 might not even be faster or as nimble as a Eliminator 450
I really like this bike. It has no direct competition at its price point. However one point- it should be of the long stroke type (as all other single cyl RE bikes are) which is important for air cooled bikes for better cooling with more fins- and better gas mileage too without loss of much power. Long stroke air cooled bikes can have higher compression ratios- more power better gas mileage.
And they wear better than the frantic short stroke screamers. Not saying short strokers arent fun but these 650s are a relatively simple, unhassled, keeper motorcycles.
48hp wasn’t too much on the cbr500r but it certainly was enough for commuting and romps about. I think it depends on the mentality of what your buying. I went into my klx300 KNOWING it was going to be dead ass slow. I love that bike sooooo much haha. My cbr500r i really didn’t know how fast that was going to be (2nd bike i was ever on) so it seemed lackluster for power especially given its cool looks. 46hp isnt bad, you just gotta know what to expect with that. Goes fast, will break limits, but will take its time in doing so. Fast, but not like stink 😂
totally different crowd I know, but check out the Ultraviolett F77 electric MC. It's another Indian company emerging on the scene and they are doing pretty good work.
I find it strange that this bike makes ten less horsepower than my 1978 kz750 kawasaki twin. Both are dohc balance shaft twins, what the hell happened for 45 years, are we going backwards?
I have ridden an INT650 and own a 2022 900 Street Twin, there is no comparison power wise, the Triumph accelerates much harder, as it should being lighter and 50% more HP and torque!
@motobob I am trying to decide between a 2 year old triumph speed twin 900 and a royal Enfield shotgun 650? It's for daily use and occasional longer rides... Would you have any opinion to help steer me?
Great review and I admit as a Super Meteor owner, I have been struggling to try and see the differentiation between the two. I can't tell them apart enough to the point where I'm surprised it earned the separate name. Is it better than the SM, has still not been possible to decide.
Looks apart, should be the same comparison between Classic 350 and Meteor 350. Either go for the cruiser stance, or a standard one. I don't think you can actually say if one is better than the other
Well, there's enough difference in the riding stance, foot peg position, handlebar, wheel sizes (18-17 as opposed to 19-16) and significant cosmetic changes as well.
I think it's an okay learner, decent commuter or run around motorcycle, but you highlighted how pathetic the "speed" twin 900 is... It's so bad they had to rename it.
Lovely looking bike. In one respect, it's in the same class as a Rocket III, it's a cruiser with a modern twist! Two negative points for me, it's just too heavy for it's size and class, there's no need for it to be that heavy. Secondly, for the Euro market, I'd argue that RE don't need to match the competition on power, but likewise 55%(ish) of the power output of the competition isn't good enough. I've noticed some comments berating others for holding the same opinion as me, but if I'm expected/required to conform to somebody else's opinion, there's a political definition for that. I won't go there.
I have Continental GT, 35kw motor is almost enough, i canot imagine how enough is this 35Kw motor in 240 kg motorcycle.......but design is absolutely TOP!!! I thing, if Royal Enfield wont to follow competitiers, strongly need develop stronger engine....
Adding a 2nd seat in the Shotgun kills it purpose. Its meant to be like a Bobber. If you want a 2nd seat better go for the Super Meteor with better looks and features than the shotgun.

Nice but I’m more excited for the Himalayan 450 which all journos have ridden and loved but you can’t find one in the stealership.
Just got mine a few weeks ago, I absolutely love it
Nice! Did you try with a passenger?
Best RE yet!
Getting closer to Triumph but not close enough for me.
Triumph perdió el encanto . No tiene motores de refrigeración por aire , que es donde está la gracia de estas motos , aspecto retro , sencillas y fácil mantenimiento.
Además los motores de triumph calientan mucho ..
If I fit on it, I will buy it....
I really want to ride one of these
Me too. When they arrive at my local dealer, I'd be keen to take a test ride.
To me it looks like a new 'Classic". Just replace dark bits with chrome and put classic light and cockpit on and you have a new Classic 650.
You're spot on there Londo. Chrome needs to make a comeback. There's too much blacked out styling on bikes.
I ride mid sized bikes with just under 100hp. Do I use all the power, no. So the shotgun seems a great buy for me. Fun riding is my aim.
It's a real beaut of a bike and I enjoyed your review as always mate. I'm keen to get myself on one soon for a test ride and review.
Really a great value for the money. Beautiful machine and my favorite of all the RE 650s. However, CF Moto has a gorgeous water cooled 450 bobber making the same horsepower and has a 270 degree crankshaft for less money. RE should be updating the ponies.
Yes, but the RE has the classic 'cool factor' going for it.
@@Jonathan-Lthe cfmoto looks as retro as this does
@@chrispekel5709for my eyes the 17 litre tank is to big visually.
when i first saw these reviews i wasn't sold but now im taking a second look. i like the passenger seat possibility of deleting.
Getting there RE, if only power could be bumped up a bit . 60bhp would have this really competing for triumphs crown
I wonder how it will look with the Continental GT tank!
I wonder how it will look after one year in The UK.
Yup, 'cuz cagers are so busy with their screens & being afraid of everything....
@@jamesonpace726😂 I'm sure people in cars are terrified of that motorcycle your on.
What the are you even going on about
This comparison is stupid @nohandlefound.
Tbh you don't need more than 40-50 bhp for 99% use case scenarios.
Agreed. Some people seem to have the mindset that more is always better
Look forward to watching your review later on
I’m
Not sure about the rear mudguard at the moment 😊
For the life of me I can't figure out why RE hasn't upped the displacement to 750 or 800.
I think they will release bikes in the 80bhp+ range (> 800cc) in the not-too-distant future
With the interceptor 650 having the same engine, and weighing at a kerb weight of 218kgs, why did they make the shotgun to weigh at a kerb weight of 240kgs?!! A solid 22kgs up hike!
Smoother ride maybe, more comfortable over bumps
Is this a RE S review video or an ad film for a GoPro camera?.
hi dont know if your engine light went out. i found when i bump start my bike the engine light comes on but when i turn it off for 10 mins it goes away . happend to me twice ?
I work at a RE dealership, I wish they made a chassis that wasn't so heavy. Employ some engineers if you have to. Renowned chassis builder my a$$, steel steel and plenty of it.
They're getting there. In India, (where I'm from) where they sell most of their bikes, having the huge heavy classic/bullet is such a status symbol that it's hard to pivot from. I genuinely hope they grow and expand into more segments emulating the Triumph brand model. Cheers!

Love RE I would love to work there!
@@j.d.mcginn6946 it's great getting to ride every bike. Just checking everything works out of the box. 350 classic is favorite
I like it, except for that weight (back issues). When are RE going to make a 35-40hp single? I think Triumph are going to steal a lot of customers with the new 400, from both potential RE 350 and 650 buyers.
RE 450s are on their way, making give or take 40 hp
I would never go for RE. Saw 400ccm Triumphs last week, surprised me a lot. Such nice little bikes. RE to me looks a lot more agricultural. But those little Triumphs, man, Candy. And power/weight ratio seems a lot better too. Ut that is just my opinion.
They already have launched Himalayan 452 with 40 Bhp single
@@AJASP.K Yes. I just found out they be be making a 450 Hunter!
Love me an RE. This is brilliant.
You are so lucky in the UK. The Shotgun is about €2,000 cheaper than in Austria!! I envy you.
Royal Enfield has positioned their engine below 47hp to attract A2 driving license holders. Many would not graduate or keen to get A license.
Klx300 isn't slow at all, unless you put 2 fat people on it
@@chrispekel5709 well it can’t accelerate going up a hill with only a 140lb person in it. 😆 it can go 70mph, but it takes awhile to get there haha
The Cruiser looks awesome.
Sounds like the engine has been around a while. Is it reliable and could it take a few thousand mile road trip?
No, it's relatively new, been around for 5 years. But AFAIK there are no major issues with it.
RE or a Triumph, that is where I am at for my next bike.
I like to ride slow.
Really nice looking bike!! Is it a beginner friendly? And still no review in Europe of the new Himalyan 450?? Thanx
totally different crowd I know, but check out the Ultraviolett F77 electric MC. It's another Indian company emerging on the scene and they are doing pretty good work.
Sportster customers will love it , slow and heavy but got style.
When's the review of triumph's speed400 and scrambler 400x coming?
He already did it

Yeah it’s hard to choose, RE 650 shotgun, RE GT650 secondhand, Triumph Speed 400 new / 800 secondhand
Similar price here in Thailand
I think overall it is quite nice. Drawbacks: too heavy, needs dual disks at the front, the gap under the seat looks odd.
I find it strange that this bike makes ten less horsepower than my 1978 kz750 kawasaki twin.
Both are dohc balance shaft twins, what the hell happened for 45 years, are we going backwards?
Emission + Tax
Every couple of month I make my mind to buy a RE, & RE come up with a better bike than before .....
Should I wait more for a better one I wonder 🤔
I have ridden an INT650 and own a 2022 900 Street Twin, there is no comparison power wise, the Triumph accelerates much harder, as it should being lighter and 50% more HP and torque!
@motobob I am trying to decide between a 2 year old triumph speed twin 900 and a royal Enfield shotgun 650? It's for daily use and occasional longer rides... Would you have any opinion to help steer me?
nice looking and value for money and above all very very enjoyable ride❤❤❤, waiting for test ride as it is not yet launched in showrooms in india
Suitable for someone who just passed their DAS?
I don't know what RE execs are smoking but 13l fuel tank is just not enough. These category bikes should at least have a 20l tank
Just needs another 20 or 30 hp to make it competitive. Even at this low price, 46hp is off putting for many.
Hi there very nice review. How is the road clearance in cornering?
650 looks both a cruiser and racing beauty
Getting one of these in September.
Good as a starting point for a custom. All the right paces in the right places. Like a girl
The speed twin is awesome. Nuff said!
Demo tomorrow 😄
No more Royal Enfields for me. I own a Interceptor 650 and can’t wait to trade it in for a Speed Twin.
Hi Dennis, could you please tell us why …. Regards Rick ✌️🏍️
Cool. Quite a bit different in comparison with the Super Meteor. :)
It costs nearly as much as MT07 or SV650
I think I would go for SV650
you do not get the looks
For the looks I would get Triumph speed 400 for nearly 2k less , same power and it's lighter @@alphonsepipo1948
Those totally different motorcycles. You cant compare them just because they cost the same.
Apples and oranges anyone?
One is cafe racer, one is hyper naked, one is cruiser
What type of choice making is this 😅
They need a 750. That would be nice.
Or make the 650 like any other, not underpowered .And while add it shave 60 pounds off of it.
What kind of shoes are you wearing?
What are the shorty boots you are wearing?
*Silencers look very odd & funny, I mean too much gap from the tyre😊*
Nice Bike, good for commuting to work
Lovely looking bike.
Isn't there heel shifter?
Can you lower the seat height? I have 27in inseam :(
It’s lovely looking. But that’s a lot of weight for 40hp to carry around.
Adding a 2nd seat in the Shotgun kills it purpose. Its meant to be like a Bobber. If you want a 2nd seat better go for the Super Meteor with better looks and features than the shotgun.
