THANK YOU! I remembered someone did this on instagram and couldn't find the original video. Now that I have a Chevy, I'll be doing this when the new tires are done 😅
Is there a part two with the process of the end results? Did you paint them or did you leave them raw aluminum? Will they get nasty and corroded leaving them raw?
Haven't made a part 2 yet. I'm still debating on polishing or painting them. The silverado rcsb project it's going on is for my son. We're thinking of a JDM vibe silver truck on white declads, white stripes outlined in orange. It's summer, and he's out of school, so part 2 will happen in a month or 2.
My 5 spoke declads were polished and silver powder coated with clear over them. I don't know why gm did all that and then covered them. I brushed paint stripper on mine and let it sit all day instead of all the scraping. The clear coat had damage so I wanted them stripped anyways.
No coating at all, they were bare aluminum, And I used hydrophloric acid Or aluminum brightner To make sure they were down to bare aluminum before I painted it
@@Modified1 I wonder why GM put so much time into the 5 spoke vs the 6 spoke? There wasn't any of the wheel exposed. The openings in the wheel were powder coated silver and the face of the wheel was polished.
The wheels are 2011, but will fit any 6x5.5 bolt pattern old or new GM, Nissan full-size and hard body, also 6 lug rams if the center hub bore is large enough to fit, or use wheel spacers.
I'm trying to finds a set I have 2020 chev silverado 4 piston calibers and bigger rotors to go on ! I do like the rims you have thks again for your reply and the video
Aluminum brightener is what mine is called. I found it at a cleaning supply store. The active agent is hydrophloric acid costs. Around $20. Thank you for commenting on my video!! It really helps my channel out!!

@The misadventures of Buck Dandy I know pretty much where that's at, I used to work for an electric company based out of pineville. And everyone from here goes to toledo bend to fish!!
what was that white stuff at the end and can i use muratic acid to get it cleaned up? i also bought a 120 grit nylon disc and it put some gashes in there….
Hydrofloric acid turns white while it's working. These wheels an be polished out to chrome or painted. Just follow the sand paper grits till 600 and then paint them or keep going to 2000 grit and start to see them polish out.
The back of the wheel says, GM NEX, 20x8.5JX31, 9597598T-DOT, HT/X6188A, C#080911. Every comma is what is says on each spoke. I found mine on marketplace 5 for $400 and searched GMC 20's. Hope you can find some!
Just about all stock wheels that are so chrome and polished looking that have no dish to them are clad, but not all of them look good with the cladding removed. But to answer your question, the only GM truck wheels that are not cladded were the suburban/avalanche 20's that are a wide 5 spoke. You can tell by the center cap. If it covers the lugs it's not clad, but if it pops in the center of the wheel inside of the lugs it's more than likely a clad wheel. Thanks for commenting!!
To polish them you need to start with 100 grit on a d/a anyway. We are going to paint these so a heavy primer, wetsand, paint, and clear is on the way when the weather gets right around here.
@@Modified1 sweet!! Same here, what one exactly ? Got mine decladed but can’t get them to clean up and ready for paint , got some like black glue shit on it

It's not a bad project, I'm doing a follow-up video on painting these soon. We had to figure out what color to go with vs polishing.
Great video sir!! Thank you.
Man, thank you!! I'm new at all this and trying not to be wierd on camera. lol
@@Modified1 you're welcome and I'm going to do the same to my wheels after watching your video. Thank you.
The hubcap really just pops off, the foam is kinda stubborn, but it comes off with a little work. A wire brush works best for the corners
Safety second! I like this channel subscribed.
Yeah I usually think about safety after I'm done lol.
Thanks for the sub!! I'm trying to reach 1000subs to make this channel legit.
Pretty cool 😎
Thanks!! A little work and some paint or polish and get a completely different look.
Cool video keep it up 👍
Thanks I'm trying, I figured since I'm out here building stuff I ought to start a TH-cam and see if it'll make something 🤷♂️

GM wasted a lot of plastic on covering up really good looking wheels. Definitely over designed!!
Yours looked like they were bare underneath, they didn't look polished or powder coated, is that right?

@D BAIRD that's a good question I've wondered about too. I guess gmc had to have 6 spokes to be "professional grade"🤷♂️
AWESOME... Thanks for the tip....
Almost free race wheels!! Just polish or paint!!

@raysumners4793 it had a paper label, and my shop is outside in southeast Louisiana so between the rain and humidity, it didn't last long.

Make sure you get the right lug nuts for these wheels.
Yeah, the black or chrome RAM lugs fit pretty well. Good point. Thanks for watching and commenting on my video!!

They are 08-13 gmc
when u declade them u cant use the original lug nuts?

Did you use a metal brush after the nylon brush??
I started with the nylon and it wasn't working so I went to a fine metal. It didn't scratch up the aluminium at all
To polish them you need to start with 100 grit on a d/a anyway. We are going to paint these so a heavy primer, wetsand, paint, and clear is on the way when the weather gets right around here.

265/50r20 it's a 30.4 like the stock tire height and 10.4 wide on a 8.5 so it fits the wheel nice and square
Those are fucking lit!
They polish out too, or paint or powder coat!!
Any info on the caps?
It's a snap in cap sold on eBay usually 4 for $20-30 83mm I believe. Many different styles as far as chrome/brushed/black, chevy/gmc/smooth
Great job brother, wtf was gm doing ?
