I’d like to see what the programmers have to deal with in this company. A dark room with old desks stuffed side by side, lit only by multiple monitor, the stench of black coffee and gas station pizza farts hanging in the air, and the sound of one of your colleagues sobbing uncontrollably from the mental health corner perched on a rickety stool because most of the php global variables are disabled in the system.

I've worked in tech for 10 years. A typical work day is 14 hours. Usually too busy to even get a bathroom break. (not exaggerating) Before covid, we would get a partial meal about 3 times a year. Because the manager would buy it, not because the company provided for us. Most of the staff is remote now so the last of us left are on our own for food. On days I get to eat, I eat at my desk while continuing to work. I have to continue to work during work phone calls and work meetings. There is always multiple layers of work happening. I literally developed a vitamin D deficiency because I go into work before the sun is up and leave when the sun is down for the day. And I guarantee these people that have light "work" for about 2 hours a day make more than 2x what I make.
But I'm privileged as a white male. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

if that's your typical work day, you will die from overwork, very, very soon. And fking eat some chanterelles man, either as a soup, or just mixed with whatever meal you're eating, they're the best vitamin D source in a lifestyle that lacks sunshine.

The free food in tech gimmick usually has an ulterior motive. My coding instructor in college was an Intel engineer and he'd tell us some pretty crazy stories about that place. They have full dining halls with free food, lounges for napping, gyms, etc all to trick people and keep them at work longer. They wanted people working harder, longer hours and these "perks" just made it more appealing. He said the point it became ultimately obvious for his was when they started establishing security clearances for immediate family members so they could visit them at work. That was the point it felt like a prison to him, and he was willing to take a pay cut downgrading to a college instructor in order to actually be able to come home and see his family at the end of the day.
This is also why big tech supports abortion rights, because if employees don't have kids then they don't have to go home on time and they can spend more time working.

I worked on mobile frontends for enterprises. Our server guys were experienced rails devs and would usually be ahead of us by a sprint. They seemed to have the harder job in some ways, but our job usually was to fight iOS as much as possible because the dozen people couldn't be bothered to learn the system in place on iOS vs web development or java. Trying to mix MVC and MVP or MVVM, esp in those days was recipe for a disaster. Millions wasted in months in fact.

The top level developers are all White or Asian guys doing the hard work developing or updating apps or possibly engineers working on R&D.
At the bottom are support workers testing, trouble shooting and fixing. Same demographic but bad pay and no prospects.
So, you get diversity hires because you have to. What to do with them? You park them right in the middle. Enough pay that they'll shut up, and few enough responsibilities that their ineptitude can't damage the business in terms or reputation or general operations. They wave rainbow flags on twitter and are black/gay/women or all three so the progressive mob and the government leaves you alone.
Then all you gotta do is have them fill up each others time with enough fluff that they're kept busy.
Don't be fooled by corpo speak. These types and the HR that hired them could be thrown out tomorrow without negatively impacting the business in any way whatsoever.

Most of them only work for 1-2 years at a big tech company to have that in their vita. Their main job is to sell you ad products / campaign types, or get you to spend more money on their ad platforms. Usually they are monetarily incentivised to sell you these products that they dont understand very well themselves. I love visiting the HQ's for big meetings, since the food is always top notch... especially at google. Usually u deal with 3-5 "product specialists" who dont know the customer and then with more "account managers" who dont know their products. Its always fun to explain their own business to them.

Having worked in customer service for a decade, this girl in the video is the type of person who would ring up to shout about the fact her free pen from a sales booth is not the right shade of blue to go with her shoes.

Years back an old friend of mine, used to work in those kind of tech/games companies as part of marketing. Then got a job at an actual company where she had to work 40hours a week.. within no time she was overworked and had to sit at home.. meanwhile me and my mate being independent contractors could only laugh.

Nastias day: So like I was running late for a meeting so I like grabbed a drink of the day and some breakfast served fresh in our building. After the meeting I played ping pong with Skyler and he won. Then we went to our swag center and I got a shirt and glow sticks and had ice cream. Then I went to the music room and had some more snacks and then after an few hours went home to watch TV. I was like sooo busy OMG.
Most peoples day: So I woke up after roughly three hours of sleep; thanks to having to deal with another episode with my dimentia ridden mother, to get the kids ready for school. Peter had an accident again so I have to pack up his sheets and blankets and take them to the laundromat. I didn’t have much time to eat so I had to just grab a pop tart and run out the door. I got to work just barely before I the clock struck late and had to rush to my station. Typical my partner didn’t show because of some personal drama so I’m stuck doing double the work. After four agonizing hours I finally had time to catch my breath for lunch and went across the street to grab a burger but since the line was way too long I didn’t have time to eat by the time I got my order and had to get back to work. The boss got on me about my work ethic again, saying I act like I don’t want to be there and told me I’m on his last nerve. The bosses pet got to enjoy a longer break than the rest of us because all of those BJs paid off. Shift ended but I got stuck doing overtime until they could get someone to cover second shift so I had to beg my neighbor to watch over my kids when they came home from school. Finally got done three hours later than normal and had to scarf down a cold burger and stale fries while I rushed home where I got a ticket from a jaded cop on his third failing marriage for a broken taillight. Got to the laundromat and picked up the sheets only to learn that the new kid working their put Clorox in instead of the regular detergent so now Peters blanket and sheets have bleached stains on them so next paycheck I’ll have to go buy another set. Got home, made dinner for the kids. Had just enough time to myself to watch some reruns of my favorite show before I passed out with a massive headache as I realized that the ticket is gonna make it so I can’t buy those new sheets for Peter. So fairly typical if slightly shitty day. Could be worse I suppose.

I was taking a LinkedIn course curious how it would teach me to be a girl boss, then the lady proceeded to say there were over 80-something genders. I clicked out of that so fast it may as well have been porn open while a parent walked in on me. Makes perfect sense that this is how their workdays are. So disconnected, so elite, so much "holier than thou."
It makes me sad that we can't even have a professional business website to expand our business networking.

I just changed a diaper of an old man, had no time for breakfast and my lunch is a pack of noodles. I'm a home health aide and no one respects me and my job, I take care of the elderly and the sick, I thank doctors and nurses whenever I take my client to the doctor office. I wanted to be a game designer, didn't have the money or the time as I raised my brother and my niece while taking care of my sick mother. This is depressing, couldn't follow my dream and I'm looked down on daily, this is so insulting. It's mainly jealousy, and I have the right to be so, but trying to do anything about it now would not result in me getting anywhere because I'm a realist and I refuse to be treated like a frail kindergartner to do minimum work.

@@pitsahat2 Jokes aside, I believe it does. The format may be of some chick just walking around with an iPhone taking selfies going on about her day, but in order to make it short, to the point, interesting and provocative even, without too much or too little blabbing about stuff - you need someone to write the script, to do the camera work (doesn't have to be her all the time), to edit and cut all these long clips she took of every place and overlay the script she's reading onto the video, maybe even re-take a bunch of those photos where people smile at her and dance at a good angle in front of her camera.
If she's the only person who did all that and she spent no effort on the entire production, then frankly, she deserves more credit than we give her. :P
