Serious driver error in the Mach 1. 1. Why is he paddle shifting? 2. He obviously didn't know how to roll race it. I'd like to see it redone with a driver that knows all those things, I think it would be a lot closer.
Yeah not the only channel I watched where they restricted them from testing the Mach 1 waisting at least 4 channels time and money from renting a track. Which makes no sense when talking about a base model mustang with decals, 20 extra hp, aero and a suspension sorry unless your packing 500 plus hp in 2021 Ford we can not be friends.
When you're going to review a car doing side by side racing tests, how about you get a driver that knows the car he's racing well enough to run it at full potential. Everyone knows using the paddles to shift the Mustang makes it a good bit slower. Let the trans work its magic. It knows exactly where to shift every time, unlike a human. BMW is an amazing car other than the fugly front bumper though.

Drag mode keeps the torque up while the auto shifts gears at the optimal rpm.....so no point in using that mode and then manually shifting....I completely agree, it was so dumb to see that
As somebody already told here: Why the mustang driver didn't let gearbox to shift itself? He manually shifted DESASTOUSLY, there was a dragrace, not a tractor towing some plow on the field.

100k vs 65k... Do I need to say anything else? The Mustang is pretty much the best thing you can get for the money period. You're also getting a bit of its heritage and style.
I think you are paying too much for what you get. If you want an sporty powerful car the Mustang can give you a great experience for your money, probably even more fun and we won't even get into long term reliability. If you want a car with a nicer interior and more computer gimmicks sure, the M4 must have a bunch more of those for you money. @@G82Watts

Two phenomenal sports coupes. Looks aside, the M4 is impressive... The Mach1 is pure joy on wheels though. In the age of electrics, these acceleration contests are kinda silly anyway. The car that makes you feel the best is all that matters. IMO, can’t lose with either of these two.
Ok the Mustang is behind the M4 and ok I’m a Mustang owner but personnaly I really prefer the Mach 1 (for the body, sound, engine) than the BMW ! And think about what you can do with the price difference !
If you had put the two cars on scales to get specific weights and then also put them on a dyno to get specific power readings that would’ve made this review incredible! :-)

I would have gotten more out of viewing the Mach 1 vs. a base M4, since they would be closer in HP & 0-60 numbers for pricing/straight line performance comparisons.
The Mach 1 is a joke, a half assed placed holder for the GT350 and the LC sucks. A salesman guy I know bought one and while the 10 spd auto is smooth and quick, it's a shitty car. The inside is Ford plastic, worthless backseat that they have the gall to actually charge you to remove and replace with carpeted cardboard. Buy a regular GT, bolt ons and aftermarket suspension and you will spend less and get more. This is for non-car guys who think it's special. It's more likely the gearing is making the difference more extreme at not an actual power increase. The Mach 1 is just not a fast car by today's standards.

As a former owner of a 3 and 7 series BMW, I still find it insane that that BMW m4 will be worth about $40,000 or so in 5 years while the ford mustang Mach 1 will still be worth about $30,000-$40,000+ in 5 years! No way in the hell is that BMW Worth an extra $30,000+ grand over the stang! I love both these rides, but for the money......I'll take the FORD!!!

So I was pretty close without initially looking at the actual values of a used M4. Again, I'm not knocking BMW, but instead am pointing out the fact that because they are so expensive to begin with in M form.....their values drop more than almost any other comparable performance sedans!

I have no idea what that guy is talking about. I have a Mach 1 and it has launch control. Not just that, it has launch control that you can manually adjust the RPM for.

I read somewhere the m4 s xdrive in normal condition it will use 100% of tq. on rwd in higher gears and it will help in rolling race, it should be almost as quick as the rwd m4 in rolling race

nobody wait to see lap times, except you. Those lap times are completely irelevant for engine and drivetrain performances, but first of all it counts vehicle curb weight, weight distribution (balance), tyres, driver and susoension. Just a few track got long stright lines which make counts the power and aero. Track driver aren't robots, so they are main factor in performance differences for lap times. So, it's very stupid idea for versus of dynamic performances for street cars.
I don't think "most people" prefer lap times over acceleration tests, but, yeah I think they should have done laps. That's the other part of the equation, no? Still, I can't help but think that these comparisons are very misleading when we have one guy driving one car all the time and we have the other guy driving the other car all the time. The driver's skill is as important as the car. Me in a C8 Z06 vs Lewis Hamilton in a stock Toyota Corolla? Lewis wins every time!

As a Stang owner with medium testosterone levels, I like both. I would've went with a GTR instead of a M4 for that kind of money. They're all bad ass grocery getters. To each their own thou.

A non-Competition M4 would be a more accurate matchup. If you want to see how a Mustang can truly shit all over an M4 Competition, put it against the one in its price class; the GT500. The GT500 absolutely destroys it on the drag strip, on the racetrack, on the street... The GT500 is literally 10 mph faster in the quarter mile. That's not just walking away, it's Usain Bolt sprinting away. Your ugly ass BMW (that you probably can't afford) gets it ass smoked by the price-comparable GT500, leaving you to wonder why you bought the big nose girl, if she wasn't going to be able to put out.
Everyone is commenting this but I want to add context. The Mustang driver cocked this up by manually shifting. In 0-60 tests that M4 Comp and Mach 1 are neck and neck. In the quarter I’d still expect the M4 to win but it should not have been the slaughter it was. It should’ve been a pretty close race.
I remember when the average American could afford a higher end mustang, and you could buy an M3 as a young professional in a decent career field. Don’t think that’s really the case anymore….
Back then, the higher end Mustang performed on par with the current base model. Now, a higher end Mustang would embarrass supercars from 10-15 years ago. A lot of things besides price have changed.
For people asking about racetrack time… i am pretty sure the BMW will destroy that Mustang. Actually, the M4 is one of the quickest sedan car on racetrack… it does 7’30 on the mythic nurburgring, which is the best time for a stock, non special version, sedan car… But the V8, and the classical Mustang name, what a marvellous car.

The GT with the A10 is quicker in automatic (in D-mode) at least from my experience not sure if it is the same with the M1 Also to fully turn off advance track the TC off button needs to be held for 6-8 seconds. That did a lot of difference for me in drag mode even on the street

My 2018 EU GT was 1.3s slower(according to my Dragy) than the new M3 comp 100-200kmh so I know for a fact that the M1 cannot beat the M3/4 :P

My cousin drove me around the Gold Coast in Australia in the M4 Competition. It's in methalic green and it's got the carbon fibre roof. Turns heads wherever you go.
Look Carlos. I don't dispute the superiority of the M4 when it comes to speed and handlings. But, the March1 couldn't be that bad the way the M4 trashed it in this test. Sometimes drivers' experiences matter in this undertaking. I would suggest both of you switch cars and re-test all over to rule out unfairness that may results in this undertaking due to driver's inexperience.
I keep seeing people bashing the M4 price tag at the same time the M4 is dusting off GT500s, Mach 1s and whatever other car they put next to it. Don’t hate the price tag - the performance explains why.

@@wg8290 The GT500 would be really hard to beat, unless you're passing a gas pump. 😂 However, usually you don't buy these kind of vehicles if you're trying to save fuel. I think the GT500 with CF track pack would definitely be the winner on most tracks between all of them.
M4 can come with AWD also. But 100k is crazy. Difference comes down to lease vs buy. You can lease a BMW and most do. But you can’t lease a high end mustang. Also bmw isn’t as reliable for long term ownership. Mustang also has a great aftermarket community. Good luck taking that M4 to your local mechanic.

I ordered a mach 1 but own a 2016 m4 comp package and when that car was independent dino it had 445 at wheels which means over 500 at the crank when bmw claimed 444 at crank, they underrate power and the bmw is 400-500 lighter, the new m4 probably has 550-570 at crank
Hilarious to see how much better the m4 hooks up despite being on 4s vs cup 2 for the mustang. Looks like they really improved the rear axle grip from the f80.
@@bobbob-jw6zf when the cup 2 is not cold it is better than the 4s. Even in longitudinal accelration. Noticed a difference in braking and even the launch in 1st gear. Being in the desert by the 2nd race the mustang would have had more than enough tire heat. I had a Camaro 1le with both 4s and cup 2 and ran a few thousand miles on both. Below 65-75F with no tire temp the 4s is def better.
American car buff still don’t like BMW no matter how well the M4 performs. Even the driver in M4 say he rather have Mustang oh well ! He should be in bmw car in the first place. OK, call me ignorant but I really wonder. Why do all these car reviewer‘s turn off the traction control and then immediately complain about not having traction?
Because traction control pulls all kinds of power from the engine. And that makes sense because traction control isn't designed or intended to be a performance enhancement or aid, it's intended to prevent the loss of traction on slippery road surfaces. So even with a loss of traction, the car should still be faster than with traction control on. Of course this also assumes that the driver has some level of skill. Unfortunately, a lot of these reviewers aren't too skilled at driving powerful RWD cars.
480 HP in Mustang power is only 350 because ford can't stop lying about the mustang numbers for 56 years now. It is easier for them to lie than to actually try.
I hate how so many people think the front grille is hideous on the BMW. I absolutely love the front grille. It took some getting used to at first, but it grew on me rather quickly. I'd buy the BMW any day before I buy the Mustang.
The Mustang has 3 different rear gear ratios available. One for highway, one for city and one for stoplight glory. The lowest gear option may require slicks. Anyway without knowing the gearing, it's hard to draw any conclusion.

It's great that they let them track test the Mach 1. When Throttle house had one, Ford didn't let them track test it in any way.

When you're going to review a car doing side by side racing tests, how about you get a driver that knows the car he's racing well enough to run it at full potential. Everyone knows using the paddles to shift the Mustang makes it a good bit slower. Let the trans work its magic. It knows exactly where to shift every time, unlike a human. BMW is an amazing car other than the fugly front bumper though.
But for the record he did admit it was him why the Mach 1 was not drivin to it's full potential.

Two phenomenal sports coupes. Looks aside, the M4 is impressive... The Mach1 is pure joy on wheels though. In the age of electrics, these acceleration contests are kinda silly anyway. The car that makes you feel the best is all that matters. IMO, can’t lose with either of these two.

They seem to do that with most of their cars. I have an M440i G22. It's quoted at 370 BHP. The reality, when mine was dyno'd, was close to 410BHP.😯

I would have gotten more out of viewing the Mach 1 vs. a base M4, since they would be closer in HP & 0-60 numbers for pricing/straight line performance comparisons.
The Mach 1 is a joke, a half assed placed holder for the GT350 and the LC sucks. A salesman guy I know bought one and while the 10 spd auto is smooth and quick, it's a shitty car. The inside is Ford plastic, worthless backseat that they have the gall to actually charge you to remove and replace with carpeted cardboard. Buy a regular GT, bolt ons and aftermarket suspension and you will spend less and get more. This is for non-car guys who think it's special. It's more likely the gearing is making the difference more extreme at not an actual power increase. The Mach 1 is just not a fast car by today's standards.

I have the 2021 M3 Competition and it's awesome
As a former owner of a 3 and 7 series BMW, I still find it insane that that BMW m4 will be worth about $40,000 or so in 5 years while the ford mustang Mach 1 will still be worth about $30,000-$40,000+ in 5 years! No way in the hell is that BMW Worth an extra $30,000+ grand over the stang! I love both these rides, but for the money......I'll take the FORD!!!

So I was pretty close without initially looking at the actual values of a used M4. Those lap times are completely irelevant for engine and drivetrain performances, but first of all it counts vehicle curb weight, weight distribution (balance), tyres, driver and susoension. Just a few track got long stright lines which make counts the power and aero.
Track driver aren't robots, so they are main factor in performance differences for lap times. So, it's very stupid idea for versus of dynamic performances for street cars.
I don't think "most people" prefer lap times over acceleration tests, but, yeah I think they should have done laps. That's the other part of the equation, no? Still, I can't help but think that these comparisons are very misleading when we have one guy driving one car all the time and we have the other guy driving the other car all the time. The driver's skill is as important as the car. Me in a C8 Z06 vs Lewis Hamilton in a stock Toyota Corolla? Lewis wins every time!

A non-Competition M4 would be a more accurate matchup. If you want to see how a Mustang can truly shit all over an M4 Competition, put it against the one in its price class; the GT500. The GT500 absolutely destroys it on the drag strip, on the racetrack, on the street... The GT500 is literally 10 mph faster in the quarter mile. That's not just walking away, it's Usain Bolt sprinting away. Your ugly ass BMW (that you probably can't afford) gets it ass smoked by the price-comparable GT500, leaving you to wonder why you bought the big nose girl, if she wasn't going to be able to put out.
Everyone is commenting this but I want to add context. The Mustang driver cocked this up by manually shifting. In 0-60 tests that M4 Comp and Mach 1 are neck and neck. In the quarter I’d still expect the M4 to win but it should not have been the slaughter it was. It should’ve been a pretty close race.
Slower or not I want the v8 every single time. Sound is half the fun for me.
I try to remind myself about that before I sell my gt. It’s a 2019 model and honestly it has a very crappy driving, makes me very disappointed

Back then, the higher end Mustang performed on par with the current base model. Now, a higher end Mustang would embarrass supercars from 10-15 years ago. A lot of things besides price have changed.

Also to fully turn off advance track the TC off button needs to be held for 6-8 seconds. That did a lot of difference for me in drag mode even on the street

My cousin drove me around the Gold Coast in Australia in the M4 Competition. It's in methalic green and it's got the carbon fibre roof. Turns heads wherever you go.

Look Carlos. I don't dispute the superiority of the M4 when it comes to speed and handlings. But, the March1 couldn't be that bad the way the M4 trashed it in this test. Sometimes drivers' experiences matter in this undertaking. I would suggest both of you switch cars and re-test all over to rule out unfairness that may results in this undertaking due to driver's inexperience.

M4 can come with AWD also. But 100k is crazy. Difference comes down to lease vs buy. You can lease a BMW and most do. But you can’t lease a high end mustang. Also bmw isn’t as reliable for long term ownership. Mustang also has a great aftermarket community. Good luck taking that M4 to your local mechanic.

I ordered a mach 1 but own a 2016 m4 comp package and when that car was independent dino it had 445 at wheels which means over 500 at the crank when bmw claimed 444 at crank, they underrate power and the bmw is 400-500 lighter, the new m4 probably has 550-570 at crank
Hilarious to see how much better the m4 hooks up despite being on 4s vs cup 2 for the mustang. Looks like they really improved the rear axle grip from the f80.
Longitudinal grip is basically the same for both tires.
@@bobbob-jw6zf when the cup 2 is not cold it is better than the 4s. Even in longitudinal accelration. Noticed a difference in braking and even the launch in 1st gear. Being in the desert by the 2nd race the mustang would have had more than enough tire heat. I had a Camaro 1le with both 4s and cup 2 and ran a few thousand miles on both. Below 65-75F with no tire temp the 4s is def better.

American car buff still don’t like BMW no matter how well the M4 performs. Even the driver in M4 say he rather have Mustang oh well ! He should be in bmw car in the first place. I wouldn’t buy Americans car. I’ll stick with German engineering. Love my G82 M4 , have it got 5 months now and love every minutes !!!!

OK, call me ignorant but I really wonder. Why do all these car reviewer‘s turn off the traction control and then immediately complain about not having traction?
Because traction control pulls all kinds of power from the engine. And that makes sense because traction control isn't designed or intended to be a performance enhancement or aid, it's intended to prevent the loss of traction on slippery road surfaces. So even with a loss of traction, the car should still be faster than with traction control on. Of course this also assumes that the driver has some level of skill. Unfortunately, a lot of these reviewers aren't too skilled at driving powerful RWD cars.
480 HP in Mustang power is only 350 because ford can't stop lying about the mustang numbers for 56 years now. It is easier for them to lie than to actually try.
I hate how so many people think the front grille is hideous on the BMW. I absolutely love the front grille. It took some getting used to at first, but it grew on me rather quickly. I'd buy the BMW any day before I buy the Mustang.

The Mustang has 3 different rear gear ratios available. One for highway, one for city and one for stoplight glory. The lowest gear option may require slicks. Anyway without knowing the gearing, it's hard to draw any conclusion.

I own a Mustang, but I've driven M4 and M5s and the BMWs absolutely smoke Mustangs on and off the track. Too rich for my blood tho. Love my 5.0
For sure the M4 will be way faster on track. But then I d prefer seeing a M4 vs GT500 for a 1 vs 1 with cars having the same price tag
