The control center is provided by Clevo, the company that manufactured the chassis. Thunderobot just puts their own branding on it. You can buy the same model just with slightly different exterior treatments from a variety of sellers all over the world.

@@georgecy5937 yeah I know for a fact that PCSpecialist uses both clevo and tongfang chassis hence why they have a popular 3080 model that's literally identical to MEDION's.
I considered buying the MEDION seeing the price but after learning that the chassis can reach 55 degrees in spots and it sounds like an aircraft engine I went with a 3070 legion 7 lol. i'll happily lose 10% performance if it means avoiding 1st degree burns everytime I boot up cyberpunk.

@@IvanOoze1990 It simply means the SSD comes from a major OEM not an unnamed brand. Being from a particular brand isn't an indicator of quality or performance, in fact any major OEM can produce both S-tier and crap tier drives (as we see from WD Green SSD and Crucial BX500, etc.). I also deal with OEM desktops and laptops fairly often (mostly Dell, occasionally HP) and see they ship with Samsung/WD/Kioxia OEM SSD models as well as some lesser known SSD companies but are still subsidiary of the larger OEMs. Most of the time I would swap them out for an after-market drive with larger capacity and better performance.

One of the things i learned living in Asia is that they are generally quite proud of their laptops, and price them accordingly. in the US and Canada, laptops seem to be much more like "well, I guess you can't handle a desktop" where as in Asia, it's sort of a lifestyle choice. So they tend to be very, very overpriced.

It performs pretty well, is also very loud and has the same control center, which is just the standard software from the manufacturer „Clevo“. A lot of brands just use Clevo as a supplier and slap their branding on it.
All in all a pretty good deal for the performance you get, I mainly use it for LAN parties or for controller gaming on the TV in the living room. At the time, it was the only reasonable option under 1000€ with an RTX 3060 (105W). All the other cheap gaming laptops were either much more expensive or just had a loser 3050.

ive found that using gaming laptops on mousepads actually makes the laptop suffoacte a bit and need to spin faster. maybe next laptop review you can try using a smaller mouse pad to put the laptop on a solid surface like your table.

that... looks suspiciously similar to my acer predator helios 300. it's identical inside. even the terrible speakers check. looks cheaper outside though.
anway, if it's anything like my laptop, the way to open it is to put it in your lap or a table in front of you upside down with the vents facing back (so, the right orientation for use, just upside down), grab the vents with your fingers while putting a little pressure on the middle of the shell as if you're lightly bending it. the whole cover will come out gracefully in one piece, no prying needed.

Hi from the UK. I recently bought an Acer Predator Helios 300 with a 12700h, 3070 Ti (150W), 1TB SSD, 144Hz 1440p 17.3" display and 16GB of DDR5 for £1,489. It was open box and included an eBay coupon, but seems like a great deal compared to this! Currently selling from the same retailer's website for £1,899 brand new. Since our currency has recently become worthless, that equates to approximately $2,105 USD for it brand new, or $1,650 USD for the open box one I purchased (with a full warranty).

That was indeed a great deal. In my country, I live in the EU, for such specs you pay above 2100 euro. Probably even if on sale won’t go below 2000 euro, at those specs, at least for the time being.

I immediately swapped out the ram for 32gb and threw in an extra 1TB ssd. I've had minimal issues with it besides battery due to always playing it plugged in.

Here in france, prices seem to be all over the place for gaming oriented laptops... A quick amazon search did yield a dell G15 with a 120Hz display and an RTX 3050, for 850€, but with a ryzen 5 5600H (pretty good, I`d say)...
The issue is that for the price it only comes with 8gbram and a 256gb SSD, so ram and storage upgrades would be a must...
The reason why I say that prices are all over the place is that not too long ago I saw other laptops with an RTX 3050 for well over a grand, with some being listed for close to 2x what the dell I mentioned costs...
Similarly, last year I bought an acer nitro 5 with an i5 10400h and gtx 1650ti for 679€ (on sale, I think it was), with every other laptop I found with a similar cpu and the same gpu being atleast 900€-1000€, a 1660ti laptop being in the 1200€ range, and it being basicly impossible to get an RTX for less than about 1500€... I added a 2nd stick of 8gb ram and 1tb samsung ssd to complement the stock 8gb ram/ 512gb ssd (and 1tb hdd I had laying around and added in for mass storage), and ended up with something I`m pretty happy with, for about 820€ all in

Both my boss and my laptop have had that happen! Mine has a 11000 series i7 and a 2060 in it, as mine is a couple years old. Mine is a "Metabox" -- but they're all just Clevo machines re-branded lol. And yes it is INCREDIBLY loud.

It's def a Clevo computer. Since the software "Control Center" is an app you download from the Microsoft Store. That's why it's more expensive an OEM-ware because you can UPGRADE most Clevo and Tongfang (competitor) computers with a better CPU and even GPU in some models.

The price on aliexpress is obviously higher when buying offshore, i mean not in China. Its quite tricky that the original price is around 1600 so I am not sure if they include the the shipping in that.
Over all, cause I lived in China and I do know the price for the market. This brand thunderbolt, is not the first tier laptop company, they more like second or the third, means their after sale service is not acceptable. But to the quality, this is the one you want to play less than alienware but you want something simular.

As for the laptop, considering my one and likely only experience with Alienware laptops I think I'd rather have that one than another Alianware - but I'd much, much, rather have something better than either of those. 😉 (My laptop experience hasn't been horrible but it has been very lackluster considering the price).

My GF bought an HP laptop with a 10th gen i5 and a GTX 1660ti for $1,200, but that was right as the great GPU crunch of 2021 was coming to an end. Its not a bad laptop, has a mechanical keyboard, 144hz display and 16gb of RAM. I use it with an external keyboard and monitor when i am gaming at her place.
