@noth606 Not to mention that upgrading the RAM yourself (when possible) is almost always more cost effective than doing it from the OEM. That's one reason I don't recommend the G14, because the RTX 4070 config, the only one with more than 16 GB of RAM, is almost the same price as the RTX 4060 Razer Blade 14, and that has a higher GPU power limit and upgradable RAM (you would have to do the RAM upgrade yourself, but unlike the G14, you can do so and save more cash).

I had just got this for 2 days, and this how i felt, the performance of the laptop was good, but overall, u sacrifice the rgb light at the back along with the cooler, which will make thermals not good, and replace the rgb light in the the edge of the touchpad, but m16 r2 using core ultra 7 to reduce the heat was also a great way, im a graphic designer and i felt this laptop was enough for me to use, how should i say... you gonna have a less attractive laptop this time, but the performance was there and even cooler a little bit compares to the m16 r1, i do love the design of alienware m16 r1, but this version was more of convinient and easier for traveling, not saying the design was bad this time, but the lost was not nessesary, like its okay with m18 r2, like they still keep the design and develope the performance at the same time and that was perfect, this version was more like close to what you actually need a gaming laptop to belike depends on your budget, like how its looks as a gaming laptop and how its works as a gaming laptop.
I want Windows laptops to start coming with haptic touchpads like on Macbooks. That way you can press anywhere to get a left click. And there's less thing to break.
Absolutely love being able to upgrade ram, add another ssd and even swap the Wi-Fi card with ease! However the cpu being pegged at 100c in valheim while the fans are pushing that much air is a bit concerning.. we’re you still in balanced mode here?
The fact Alex didn't even mention the insane fan sound or temps in his final thoughts is wild. I guess you can't be too honest about the jet engine, disguised as a laptop, if you want to place a link to this beast and make commissions off the sale
The issue is - with the G16 and G14 2024 by ROG, this laptop becomes irrelevant. It uses a worse display (LCD vs OLED), crap speakers compared to the MacBook grade of the G14/G16, slightly cheaper feeling keyboard, smaller and worse trackpad, much thicker and not quite stealth nor gamery compared to the ultra thin ROG laptops, worse battery life than the G14 despite similar CPU performance, cheap plasticky build while the competition has CNC unibody aluminum that even gives a MacBook run for its money... honestly the only pro is Dell's warranty compared to Asus' horrific after sales support; and upgradable RAM (but the Asus laptops are much cheaper with 32GB RAM and being LPDDR5 they are much faster). Dell + Alienware needs to up their game next year. Even the XPS series are going downhill.
What’s the first thing to go bad on a laptop? The fans? Or the speaker? Either one, Dell makes you disassemble the entire laptop to access or replace either! Designed by the same brilliant automotive engineers who place the oil filter underneath the motor, requiring you to bring your vehicle into the dealership for an oil change.
i discovered that Alienware somehow was building their laptops using liquid metal and normal heatsink compound at the same time. This causes the laptop to overheat.
I loved Alienware laptops even tho it's not the best value but the design was so damn good and i do care the most about value but it's prettier than my crush Now idk how would i like it ,it looks like old thinkpad
I think with the mouse pad, I prefer to have a mouse pad that every time I place my hand on the pc to type I don’t touch the pad. I think the r2 has the perfect size for the real state it offers
This MicroSD trend is just an insult. Not having one was bad but just about “acceptable”, because most PC towers don't have one and then you buy an external reader. But now getting them back/ having one and it being MicroSD just feels bad. It's like they're taunting you in a way of “hey, we can do it, but we won't give the real stuff to you”. It’s practically useless at this point. Except for GoPro footage, what do you even still use MicroSD for? To back up your Nintendo Switch? Your 5 year old budget line android phone? Just give me the full size SD or nothing. I can always put my micro SD in an adapter if I need to, as those come with them anyway 90% of the time. I definetly won't be starting to use MicroSD in cameras or the like if the future even looks like it might be CF-Express A or B instead.
I dont know why some gaming laptops have this cool factor about them. I have a desktop, this would be a downgraded experience. Do i still want it? Yes.
Who is using a trackpad on a gaming laptop? The speakers would be a bigger complaint for me but in most cases I would put on a headset anyway and I would have a controller or mouse plugged in.
The hilarious thing is Dell puts bigger trackpads on their Latitude laptops. I have a 7440 and the trackpad is almost 50% the width of the the 14" laptop.

It's sad that they can't get the audio experience right for a premium laptop.
Very awesome, I found this exact model at bestbuy for $1300.00 new on sale and $1100.00 open box. Ended up buying the new one BUT THEN I also found the M18 with the AMD 7900M (16GB vRAM) for $1450.00 open box. Not sure which one I was to get, both are very pretty
**Had to return the M18 due to issues :(** super sad I had to return the bigger laptop but still using the M16. So far everything is working well, ended up upgrading the ram to 32GB and the storage to 6TB
"waaaaa, I don't like the barrel jack." FFS all gaming laptops worth a damn need power way above what USB-C can provide. Stop whining about it just because you like to daily drive a HP Dragonfly. Not everyone can afford both a killer gaming desktop and just get a top-notch ultrabook for daily use.
I gotta say, between my ROG 17, Legion 15 and AW 17R5, I much preferred the Alienware between the 3.... I can't always say the same when it come to productivity laptops with Dell, I guess that's just preference (I prefer older Thinkpads, they do plenty well), but my AW was definitely the most well built.
they should make a airplane friendly power brick. i learned on a flight that the airline i was on shuts off the 110v outlet if it draws over 60 watts. was not a fun 11 hour flight.
The trackpad could've been bigger given the space. Still, the overall package seems solid and definitely worth considering if on sale.
Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough.
"It feels pretty light - place on scale - oof that's pretty heavy" man decide on one XD
The body piercing didn't go exactly as he expected.
0:26 If you have seen the size of the OLD 240W AC adapters you will not think that this newer 240W charger is big at all.
Well at 1900 did seem like a decent deal, but at 1300 is a hell of a deal...right now at BB
I have the m16 r2 with the ultra 9 with the 4070. If you dont want the fans going 100% some set up is needed. I did re-pasted it and that did help a bit.
I miss the old Aleinware laptops feom back in 2010-2014. 3D Vision, and just a better design.
You guys should do the unboxing first and then send product to the lab for testing and get it back and continue the video. I think the video would be quit a bit more satisfying to watch that way because it kinda feels like you guys a reviewing a second hand product here.
So the trackpad is small, the screen is not that good, the speakers are bad, the laptop sounds like a jet engine while still being hot and the design is outdated. Alienware outdid themselves
If eating three-egg omelets causes weight-gain, budgie eggs are a good substitute.
RAID 0 is NOT unreliable.
It's just 2 disks working as 1.
Same as most computers having 1 disk - if it fails, all gone.
Downside is the price because you buy 2 disks to get double the speed but half the space.
as a m17x owner I bought it to be easier to travel with than a desktop and as that it was phenomenal. as a laptop for someone who is a student I would be hating life.
A light up track pad! Love that.
It’s on sales for 1699 at Best Buy. I know some people said not worth for original price but what about 1699? Reviews are great at best buy
I just got it today and it’s running pretty great, you just got to optimize everything or it’ll sound like a jet engine.
If you remember let me know in a week please how it’s going
@@IAmJeka yeah well I returned it to get a pc because it was overheating
@@jaidenschildhauer oh shoot really?!? Oh man. What pc did you get
I had just got this for 2 days, and this how i felt, the performance of the laptop was good, but overall, u sacrifice the rgb light at the back along with the cooler, which will make thermals not good, and replace the rgb light in the the edge of the touchpad, but m16 r2 using core ultra 7 to reduce the heat was also a great way, im a graphic designer and i felt this laptop was enough for me to use, how should i say... you gonna have a less attractive laptop this time, but the performance was there and even cooler a little bit compares to the m16 r1, i do love the design of alienware m16 r1, but this version was more of convinient and easier for traveling, not saying the design was bad this time, but the lost was not nessesary, like its okay with m18 r2, like they still keep the design and develope the performance at the same time and that was perfect, this version was more like close to what you actually need a gaming laptop to belike depends on your budget, like how its looks as a gaming laptop and how its works as a gaming laptop.
4:20 But isnt that a good thing? I like my dark areas dark. Why should i expect them to be bright?
It's really nice that you also measured it in kilograms (international standard), not all ppl know how much 1 pound is :D Good video
I want Windows laptops to start coming with haptic touchpads like on Macbooks. That way you can press anywhere to get a left click. And there's less thing to break.
Thanks for mentioning the weight in both Pounds and Kilograms
Absolutely love being able to upgrade ram, add another ssd and even swap the Wi-Fi card with ease! However the cpu being pegged at 100c in valheim while the fans are pushing that much air is a bit concerning.. we’re you still in balanced mode here?
Picked it up at best buy on sale for $1299.00 what a steal.
The fact Alex didn't even mention the insane fan sound or temps in his final thoughts is wild. I guess you can't be too honest about the jet engine, disguised as a laptop, if you want to place a link to this beast and make commissions off the sale
Just bought mine, ultra 9, 4060, 32gb ram. I'm happy!!
At Best Buy for 1699?
Even the XPS series are going downhill.
wow, look at those CPU temps when playing the games, is that normal on laptops?
Will never spend a dime on any laptop without S3 sleep
What’s the first thing to go bad on a laptop? The fans? Or the speaker?
Either one, Dell makes you disassemble the entire laptop to access or replace either! Designed by the same brilliant automotive engineers who place the oil filter underneath the motor, requiring you to bring your vehicle into the dealership for an oil change.
To be honest, I'd prefer having a smaller trackpad, you just have to adjust it to a higher sensitivity and that's it
Loud Hot expensive, all the reasons to not get a gaming laptop.
But why does it have to look like that?
That fan volume is ridicolous, if I would want to listen to a hoover I would go clean my room..
Is the screen too dark to use for non-gaming , daily work ?
The laptop can be customized with 64gb ram too without costing $4k+.
i discovered that Alienware somehow was building their laptops using liquid metal and normal heatsink compound at the same time. This causes the laptop to overheat.
2:09 Just Fyi it's actually 2024,
🎉🎉 Happy New Year🎉🎉🎉
I loved Alienware laptops even tho it's not the best value but the design was so damn good and i do care the most about value but it's prettier than my crush
Now idk how would i like it ,it looks like old thinkpad
I actually like the design, way better than previous ones.
The track pad is there just to give you emergency input until you can get your mouse plugged in.
Does locally mean recorded on the laptop or was it sent out over HDMI to a capture card or something?
You need to compare this against the XPS equivalent. Cause that’s as close to being able to tell the difference cooling makes.
Am i the only one who doesn't mind the track pad size. Those large track pads invite accidental touches and clicks.
I think with the mouse pad, I prefer to have a mouse pad that every time I place my hand on the pc to type I don’t touch the pad.
I think the r2 has the perfect size for the real state it offers
Do you guys want to know something interesting? At 60hz the brightness is like 25-30% more compared to 240hz
14:10 kinda surprised they didn't go with CAMM2, considering they were the ones who invented it.
this is the example why we need arm windows laptops with nvidia gpu for ours gamer foes
I dont know why some gaming laptops have this cool factor about them. I have a desktop, this would be a downgraded experience. Do i still want it? Yes.
Happy to see, that laptop manifacturer go for more reasonable specs and therefore make them usable and transportable.
Designed in 2023?
One day Alienware is going to have good screens.
Holy shit! 104 degrees on the CPU?
