Married life certainly seems to agree with you Steve! It’s awesome that “You’re Beautiful Bride” supports your camping passion! All of life’s best is wished for you both! #HunkerDown
Here's why people love Steve. He brings vac-pac meat but forgets to bring a knife . . . . then . . . . Eats with a miserable little plastic spoon, only to fund the real fork he brought, AFTER he finishes the meal. He represents everyone who's ever gone camping. Thank you Steve!
This video is over 2 years old, I’ve watched it multiple times, and it’s still so enjoyable every time. It’s amazing how rewatchable Steve’s videos are. They’re so fun and relaxing and comforting. Thank you, Steve. Keep up the great work.
Norway... Loved it, did a bicycle tour back in the early 80s one summer, cycled from Oslo to Bergen and back. Camped every night in the woods, free, no hassles, drank the water direct from the lakes. Serious mosquitos, Great time. Lost my watch, never knew what time it was in the mornings, I would get up cycle get to a store and see what time. I need to revisit that trip, should do that in the next year before I'm 70 :-).. Im from the US.
In case you've wondered if he does the 'Bear Grylls' thing, and sleeps in a plush hotel between filming, just look at his face when he wakes up in the morning. It's clearly the face of someone who slept in a hammock in the woods all night.
I don't think grylls stays in hotels, it would be impractical to travel from someplace like fairly deep in the Amazon to the local Hilton every single day. Granted his team does their prep, and lays out the course grylls will be following, but for the sake of practicality and expense once he sets out he's committed. Besides he's former SAS.
It all looks so simple. It is planned out to parculiar detail. He can't have a full pack that would show the obvious intention to camp in the park. Yet he had all the elements required, including the camp fire, and enough room left over in his pack to pick up the litter. Many lessons learned from this, Steve. Thanks!
Man, I'm 31 now and ive lived like this for basically 17 years. Of all these kind of channels yours is the best as you get across that nervousness of being caught and your videos have a legitimate feeling to them. Basically you've inspired me to start my own channel for how to do this in England where it's illegal to wild camp anywhere in the country but hundreds of people have no choice but to do so. Maybe I can help some people steer themselves out of shop doorways and Into safer more secluded areas.
I once lived for many years, on traveller sites (UK mostly) until late 1997, when harassment became intense. It's so weird everywhere is blocked-off today..every field, drove, lane, common land. Even simple camping is a drama now. Many people back then, said this would happen here someday, and sadly it has. Our freedom ended in 1984 !
Some wild camping is allowed in Scotland but some folk are wrecking it for everyone by leaving a lot of rubbish and even tents, behind, so there is growing hostility to it.
I camped in Australia for 2 years. I was only 10 minutes walk from a supermarket. I didn't get any bother from anyone. It's much better than living on the street.
Awesome spot despite the traffic of people in the morning. I'm glad the little fire worked out for you, it really does tie the camp together. The rice looked good, but I was a bit iffy about the breakfast burrito. Definitely a great stealther.. and it makes my heart happy that beautiful wife commented on the video. Cheers Steve, I'm glad you're still out there being a great steward of nature and camping with care

Hi, I clicked on the video because it reminded me of a time 30 odd years ago when I was hitchhiking and working in Europe. I would follow the harvests and seasonal work, grape picking in France, apple picking in Greece, hotel work in Switzerland. I would here of work and hitchhike my way towards it. Sometimes it could take all day to get a lift and I might end up being dropped off late at night with no chance of a ride. I would do a quick 360 and find somewhere to set up a tent or just get my mat and sleeping bag out. There would typically be some cover nearby but i think my favourites were a massive roundabout near the motorway in Italy, plenty of shrubs and small trees for cover and at 2am very little traffic so easy to access. A different story in the morning when I had to try and get of the round about to be on my way. Always get up early before most people are on the move is key to successful stealth camping😁. In Greece I camped in a partially built house’s garage and woke up to a large Greek family looking down at me, fortunately one of the children had been learning English at school. I explained myself to this bewildered family who one they understood insisted on taking me into their home and feeding me. I didn’t know at the time that a lot of houses in Greece were unfinished because it helped a lot with their property taxes. I did this for a little over a year and I have never felt so alive and free, anyway this is a long way of thanking you for triggering my nostalgia it sure put a smile on my face 👍👍👍👍.
Hi Steve! I love to stealth camp in a nearby state park which is closed at 7pm. I carry the smallest backpack which looks like a school backpack for a boy but it is a woodland camo. My stove is exactly what you have I picked up at a military surplus outfit for 5 bucks. Also bought a a dozen Trioxane cubes. The trick to lighting them is to scrape the top it with your EDC pocket knife: never carry a knife on your belt unless it can be hidden (hard to do in the summer wearing shorts and a tee). The particles light very quickly which lights up the remaining cube. I'm surprised you didn't use your four dinner foil container for the burrito as well. Pour a little amount of water into the bottom and place your aluminum foil wrapped burrito into the container, place a sheet of foil or the original paper cover you extracted on top; the steam will warm your burrito adequately. My tarp is the USMC MARPAT (marine pattern), the hammock a Snugpak with bug net and I use one of those green reflectix emergency blankets (11 bucks at Walmart) for an under blanket secured with 550 paracord or #36 bank line. There have been some stealth camp sites where I used a 5X7 camo net to disguise my set up. Stealth camping is a learning tool for me: packing light taking only absolute essentials, being totally in tune with your environment and deciphering sounds in the dark.
yeah these shots became really popular because of casey neistat and i was laughing even then But he shows a lot of the time, him going back and snagging the camera lmao
Watching the videos, late to the party, and it seems this channel IS his healing. It gives Steve something to aim toward doing, people to engage with, a reason to be.
@John Taylor Your parents worked the hardest and you inherited all they did for you, then fucked everything up for the following generations because you are so entitled. also, learn to take a joke. save your self the stress.
I love going stealth camping.I was inspired by Steve to go out and to create my own adventure.its funny how basic of a setup I had on my first trip compared to now.I just purchased my first hammock yesterday, and can't wait to get out and use it.anything is better than sleeping on the ground!!
This defeats the thrill of camping for me. My love of camping revolves around the idea of being far away from people. I do like the illegal aspect though.
I like the fact that you can do the camping and being in the outdoors without having to go to far from home if you have these surroundings nearby. Or pack super crazy. Kinda like a quick getaway. I can dig this.
@@fishing-4x4 the what is the fact that every backpack has pockets. one of those pocket should have a canteen empty, if you're don't want to store stale water, a knife , a very small first aid kit, something to start a fire with and piece of 550 cord.
tamie341 yes.. well, up here in Portland, they’re not all that stealth.. the shopping carts and pallets, and brightly colored tarps are no so stealthy. The transients used to be much more stealthy when I was a kid. And there was less of them. Steve, you’d have a problem stealth camping in Portland.. well, maybe not Forest Park ( our huge urban park).
50 of 74 years a hobo. Every since I was 8 years old I always carried a little " pen knife " in my pocket. Like grandpa used for sharpening pencils. Always a wooden spoon.. Carried chop sticks, very good with them, or made chop sticks from twigs a few times. Waited as close to dark as reasonable also. Can stove cooking. Only very rapid boil and eat ( like Ramon Noodles ) plus a can of sardines or even peanut butter pack. Sometimes just open a can and stick a spoon in without heating.

This was the first episode I ever watched. I've gone back to your first ever episode and have been watching 1-2 each night in order. Back here now. Catching up fast!
LOL!! This video is ranked 10 out of top 10 for originality and coolness. Steve took this small patch of outdoors, wilderness in the middle of a city area and totally extracted the outdoors experience and wilderness feeling. It's so cool because these trees, dirt and shrubs served him 100% in this camping trip and he was able to seek it out and receive it without having to travel to such great lengths... What an original video but so awesome!!!
I've spent well over a year's worth of nights (350+) in my Hennessy hammock. It's funny b/c you're using the same pack as I have as well, for the past 4 years. I did a 6 month permaculture venture in latin america. One of the wild horse ranches I worked at ordered 3 hammocks after my visit. Those items & a compact sleeping bag is a perfect answer for mobility on trips, when you don't have the money for a hotel or even a hostile. Sometimes bussing cross-country you get dropped off at night after-hours, and your only option is to dive into the jungle or forest like Steve is. I also did a 6 month survival stint near the Redwoods California border with such basic equipment. The common hobo stove is invaluable for a quick coffee or meal. You'd never catch me out there without knives, headlamp(s), or a firestarting kit. Thanks for sharing Steve!
This was the 1st vid i ever watched from Steve. 2yrs later i think I’ve watched over 30. Lots of his videos have over a Million views. One time i asked him a question & he responded to little ol’ Me within an hour! Thnx Fren.
Loved your video. My husband and I used to go car camping in our national reserves, a long time ago - miss those days, miss him more. Off to see your older videos. Subscribed.
You are spot on with the craft beers being hop crazy. Also IPAs are fine every once in a while but some of us beer connoisseurs appreciate a good ale or pilsner. Not everyone wants to get trashed and have a hangover from drinking two beers.
Love this. I particularly like the bits where you're slightly alarmed that people are suddenly pretty close and might find you - you're real, not trying to be anything else, not hiding anything about yourself by editing those bits out, just doing what you love without trying to p!ss anybody off. I totally dig it - thanks for sharing these awesome stealth micro missions, you help inspire me to finally get out and do some myself :) ~ Amy, NZ
We called those heat tabs in the Marines. Used them forever. They make a canteen cup that fits around a canteen and then a small stove that goes with it. All in one small package with a quart of water.
I loved like this for almost a year in ky. It wasn't really by choice. I'll say that even though it was ruff at times it was also liberating and a blast at times. Now I have a kid a house and bills. Sometimes I look back and miss it.
Steve, you need to watch a vid on packing a bag. Many good ones from preppers. You don't need a knife, you need two! Haha. I've used those stoves for years. Had fun watching. Thank you.
I have a dream to one day back pack the entire Appalachian Trail. I watch these videos to get ideas on gear to bring to pack light. Sure there will be many more options in the future probably as it will likely be something I do when I retire in, hopefully, 20 years.
If they ever question you you could always just say you're training for A PCT hike or something And you've got the gear with you to practice efficient set up and tear down of your camp :) I love your videos keep them coming :)
I was listening to deep purple 30 minutes ago idk how TH-cam sent me here but I think I'll stay for awhile these videos are great man keep up the great work
"T-cup" candles melted down with a cotton ball installed can last up to 30 minutes or more. One will boil your water. I use them as fire starters. They even work immediately after being submerged in water. I dig a knife into it pulling up a makeshift wick and light it. They can be extinguished and reused like a candle should the need arise. Your tent needs camouflage the triangular straight lines are not consistent with what's found in nature.
@@keelanesquivel3854 I put T-cup candles on a hot plate to melt the wax. Then I place a single cotton ball into the melted wax after removing the wick. Once the wax Fry's it can be lit like a candle. The difference is the entire cotton ball acts as the wick in turn causing a much larger flame lasting long enough to even start wet wood. Hope this helps.
Thank you Jess for sharing your husband with us, we do appreciate it. Although I think you enjoy the peace and quite when he is out camping and not annoying you LOL
I wandered into this and I love the videos. I have now watched several. Steve makes urban camping seem pretty adventurous. lol, definitely makes me want to be outside. Keep up the good work.
Incredible, your gear is much like mine. Love the tri-stool, I use a tent hammock as well, and over the past 6 years I've created my own back-country camping pack with the philosophy of light & compact in mind. Good work dude, coming from a Manitoban (who also Stealth Camped in Europe)
Good morning Steve, for those "suspicious time" on the trail with a large pack, you could always say that you're training for a long haul hike. Therefore you want to use your big pack with all your gear so that you're training with the proper weight in it.
Hi Steve, we had those little fold down stoves in the (British) army and I think the fuel was called Hexamine blocks that came wax wrapped and I guess stored in the event of war ! But sticks/and whatever can be used , it's a good little unit , All the best mate jv
Steve, your videos are the BEST!!! Your presentation is hilarious. You're so at peace with yourself even though you do some crazy stuff. Keep it up. And stay safe!
I like to stealth camp in people's living rooms at at night when they are upstairs asleep. It's quite the challenge to not get caught. It's fun. You should try it.
@Simon Webster Well, I guess you have to watch a couple of episodes before you know the story of the Off Grid part 😉 I have never got this comment before 😂 Have an amazing week!
On days when I want to turn the entirety of existence off, and fade to an unaware blackness these videos really help keep my ember going. Nothing is more precious than that. Thanks Steve, Beautiful Wife, Crazy Neighbor, and the whole Step 2 community. Life is beautiful but fuck me if it isn't hard.
PBRstreetgang I do that too! I often think about how long a person could live bushcraft style in a State Park or National Forest. I’d be a Yogi Bear and raid picnic baskets for food and drink.
I think about people living in medians of highways that have a lot of trees on them. Like right there camping in the middle between the the highway lanes.
Hi Steve hope you're doing ok its almost summer in Australia now we are in spring I think that's your Autum in Canada still thinking of you mate I lost my dad 12 years ago all I can say to you is time does heel excuse the spelling I think that you are an great fella and I love you camping shows, you are an everyday inspiration, take care mate looking forward to seeing your future videos.
I've done this for years! One time I was even intercepted by one of the homeowners. I explained that I was working in the area and posed no threat. I was actually there for 3 months and the day I quit my job, he had cleared out a wide path to my campsite. It was perfect timing. I've never used a hammock. I used the two poncho-tarp system that I learned in the military. 1 is a ground tarp and the other is suspended directly above it with a string wound around the hood and suspended tightly from a tree branch. Each corner grommet of the "roof" is tied to its respective tree branch. Its virtually rain proof. That hammock seals up very nicely. The only thing that would hold me back would be the fact that I can't hang out in it if I don't want to sleep? Just a tip, you should cover your water container while boiling. I spent months camping in Angeles National Forest living off of mac & cheese & raisin bran cereal. For cooking I used a camper's single burner kerosene stove. Each portable bottle lasts about a week and its easy to go to a storage space and refill them when you are on a food run. Admittedly, I used a single man mountaineer's tent (very light and low profile) and a sub zero mountaineers sleeping bag. If I didn't have these, I would have frozen to death. After one has the required equipment, a person can easily live this way for about $500 yr.
watching this from the comfort of my little hammock campsite in my moms backyard while I am staying with her(she is elderly and I have been helping her to get appointments and around the house/with her medical issues) and now I am motivated to get stealthy in the park down the street from here and camp out there one night soon!

You could always hang leaves and branches over the tarp to break up the geometric outline
That's exactly what I was thinking :)
Or maybe a light weight commo net
I use travel-lodge and hide under the duvet. with beer.
What about camo pattern tarp
“Bob Ross of Camping”. That is perfect.
1:00 I love watching those shots knowing you have to walk back and get the camera.
yeah these shots became really popular because of casey neistat and i was laughing even then
But he shows a lot of the time, him going back and snagging the camera lmao
Chris M Its the price you have to pay for basic Cinematography. It may seem not necessary but the extra effort does make for a more interesting video.
Michael Ortega just get a drone or a new released Boston dynamic spot
It reminds me of Survivor Man

Yes, but it was interesting so I watched the whole thing.
not random. people pay to get suggested

Daily dose of Steve. Hopefully he is beginning to heal.
Praying for Everyone...
Watching the videos, late to the party, and it seems this channel IS his healing. It gives Steve something to aim toward doing, people to engage with, a reason to be.
Dogs, a Stealthers worst enemy. Thanks for the Video Steve. I love all your work.
"Get comfortable and crack a beer"
Best line of the video
I concur.
You gots to have a little hootch while camping.
There is just something about how genuine and excited you are about these videos that keeps me coming back :)

You liking the illegal aspect got you another subscriber
Bugout Bubba I agree but it’s nice to consider, there’s probably something good about the idea

I like the fact that you can do the camping and being in the outdoors without having to go to far from home if you have these surroundings nearby. Or pack super crazy. Kinda like a quick getaway. I can dig this.
I like the fact I could be watching someone in the middle of the woods at midnight without them knowing
It’s official, I’m gonna try it. I live in Calgary and there’s a huge section of trees near by my house with not a lot of traffic.
Did you??

Ton of "urban stealth campers" up here in Portland lol this sends such a bad message
lol, why can only hear Jerry Seinfeld sayin that
I swear this makes it seem like its downplaying real homeless people. "Urban stealth camping"" so fucking stooopid
tamie341 yes.. well, up here in Portland, they’re not all that stealth.. the shopping carts and pallets, and brightly colored tarps are no so stealthy.
The transients used to be much more stealthy when I was a kid. And there was less of them.
Steve, you’d have a problem stealth camping in Portland.. well, maybe not Forest Park ( our huge urban park).
How awesome to be camped where you want to be! I'm going to start that this year. This just going to try. I'll let everyone know how it turns out!
and how did it turn out?
Great idea.
Love it! So much fun, especially cause it's cheap and simple. Thanks Steve
Gotta get an underquilt. Makes hammock camping much warmer.
@John Taylor laying on a sleeping bag flattens the loft in the insulation of the sleeping bag. Won't work in cold nights.

Always wanted to try one of those stoves and glad to see they work well.
the German army uses these stoves
I loved like this for almost a year in ky. It wasn't really by choice. I'll say that even though it was ruff at times it was also liberating and a blast at times. Now I have a kid a house and bills. Sometimes I look back and miss it.
That constant road noise is soul destroying.
It's actually cool in person though. Edmonton has more undeveloped river valley area than any other city
Your soul must be easily destroyed.
You would never survive here in New York LOL! It's actually therapeutic/calming for me, ik a lot of New Yorkers that feel the same way.
I really hate cars and sirens noises. Just reminds me of life when I'm trying to escape from it by chilling.
All part of the experience 👍
Steve, you need to watch a vid on packing a bag. Many good ones from preppers. You don't need a knife, you need two! Haha. I've used those stoves for years. Had fun watching. Thank you.
I’m not sure why but the part where he sees a sleeping bag in the woods and doesn’t want to camp anywhere near it had me laughing out loud.
Bad karma. he never goes near those spots

Kevin Tanner can you elaborate please? I don’t quite understand what you mean?
@@keelanesquivel3854 I put T-cup candles on a hot plate to melt the wax. Then I place a single cotton ball into the melted wax after removing the wick. Once the wax Fry's it can be lit like a candle. The difference is the entire cotton ball acts as the wick in turn causing a much larger flame lasting long enough to even start wet wood. Hope this helps.
Thank you Jess for sharing your husband with us, we do appreciate it. Although I think you enjoy the peace and quite when he is out camping and not annoying you LOL
You have the most pleasant and calming way about you! You seem so humble and this was easy to watch.
I wandered into this and I love the videos. I have now watched several. Steve makes urban camping seem pretty adventurous. lol, definitely makes me want to be outside. Keep up the good work.
I agree with your comments about craft brewers over-hopping their beers. They could learn a lot from Bavarian and Belgium brewers...

Good idea haha
That would also be a good excuse if he gets caught camping. "I'm training and conditioning my body for a long hike"

You need digital-camo tarps to for the cover. They come in many patterns and color schemes. You'll be almost invisible up to 20-30 feet.
People walking down the trail realizing the smell of broccoli and cheddar coming from the woods
Sometimes I'll be driving somewhere and think....I could camp right there and nobody would know 😁😁😁
PBRstreetgang I do that too! I often think about how long a person could live bushcraft style in a State Park or National Forest. I’d be a Yogi Bear and raid picnic baskets for food and drink.
Yup!
I think about people living in medians of highways that have a lot of trees on them. Like right there camping in the middle between the the highway lanes.
YES! I have thought that too, even in a forested interstate cloverleaf exit! Using a Kelly Kettle.
I've done that quite a few times, just find a secluded spot...set up camp and rest.

That second where you sat down and cracked open your beer and said "ah", I felt that! Such a good feeling 🙌
We miss you , Steve’s Beautiful wife . Please keep watching over Steve for us and help him to stay strong
