The car is definitely the biggest trick for overnighting in day use, in my experience. Barely 2 minutes off the trail, but no one came there (occasional roaming dog tho!). Always felt that was a remarkable metaphor for life in general... almost nobody leaves the marked path.

Before I started watching his channel, I thought you needed some high dollar tent, sleeping bag, and all kinds of special gear. It really depends on how your health is. My dad was a big outdoor person and he and I had some great adventures. But after he had to have back surgery he just really wasn't up for it. Also, how long are you camping for? I went on a two week long trip around the US NW staying in state park campgrounds and it worked great because we had decent equipment and a routine for setting up. I wouldn't want to do it at my current age.
Never really tried stealth camping myself. I remember as a teenager my Dad putting off finding a campground until well after dark in spite of Mom's warnings, then he pulled into a small roadside picnic area with a big "Absolutely NO Overnight Camping" sign! We had a car towing a small camper. He said, "I'll pull down back and no one will see us"! So over the curb and across the grass we went. In the middle of the night the whole camper lit up and started rocking. Mom and I ran for the door, He and my brother slept through it. Seems in the dark he parked right next to some railroad tracks! We left well before dawn.
Hey Steve! I wanted to tell you thanks for making all these wonderful videos. I'm disabled and alone so you give me some damn good company, step 2 cheers!

Hello, Steve. I'm from Finland and to me it seems very strange and sad thing also, that You have to do this stealth camping there, have to be careful, that no one notices, that You are staying a night there, and to be worried about the car being towed away. Here camping in forests is absolutely free, even in privately-owned ones. We have here by law so called "every man's rights" and camping is one of them. You can also pick berries and mushrooms freely. (not cultivated ones) Of course You can't camp in someones backyard without permission, and collecting branches of firewood, cutting trees without permission, and setting a campfire without proper place for it is illegal. (There actually are lot of places made by municipality for campfire in popular areas, and there is sometimes free firewood also) Of course You are supposed to leave the place as it was, no trash left, etc.
Wow !! Finland sounds like such an amazing place. It is so sad that in Canada we cannot just camp in day areas. Even though we have millions of acres of crown and provincial land to camp on . . . maybe one day we can aspire to be more like Finland.

What I found that worked for measuring in the skillet/pot like you used, is engrave some marks on the inside. taking a measuring cup and adding 1 cup of water marking a line it comes to. all the way up to 4 cups. Just a little Tip. I has a few camping skillet/pots I take with me. where I engraved marks on it for different cups even half cup marks on a couple of them.
Steve thinks about so many variables when doing this stealth stuff to avoid suspicion. If he committed an actual grand heist he would get away with it.

I love the stealth camping, makes me want to try it out. I did a lot of it back in the 70s, when I was a teenager and basically homeless. I never really saw it that way, though, Kansas City was my home. I stayed under a lot of low bushes and even a stand of willows right on Parallel Avenue in KC Kansas. I spent a whole Winter under a pontoon boat, parked in a field behind some houses at 76th Street and State Avenue, also on the Kansas side. It was a fairly busy Winter, lots of snow and cold windy weather and I was comfortable. The deck of the boat was concrete so I could have a fire, and I had lots of new carpet scraps so I had a dry floor and I hung up carpet at both ends of the boat under the deck. They pretty much closed off the ends and I stuffed whatever I could find between the deck and the pontoons along the sides, so I had a good, warm and nearly invisible shelter with very little wind and zero moisture. Being in a field, there was a lot of cover all around, I could even play my guitar without being heard. Best of all was that it was free. My brother, his wife and family lived down the street and I got showers and a few free meals there, but for the most part I was completely self-sufficient and on my own. The way I liked it back then.

I just started watching these videos in the past week. Love them! I have so many queued up now. They're addictive. I guess because I really want to go camping but my stupid anxieties keep from going. I would love to go backpacking but it's so hard, I always find excuses. So at least I can live vicariously through Steve. Thank you for what you do!
Hey bud, just read your comment and wanted to encourage you to bite the bullet and just go do it! I suffer from pretty severe anxiety disorders that have held me back at so many different times in life, and of course just made life in general a real hell, but camping has ALWAYS been a non-issue for me. Maybe because I started going when I was pretty young. Went almost every weekend in high school....me and a couple buddies would load a wheelbarrow up and just push it about a mile or two from our houses. Didn't need to go that far, but we had our little spots that we liked. Our main one had a small creek that we'd just spend hours on end fishing in. Maybe try and find a friend/partner to join you. Start small and don't overthink it. Tents are cheap but not necessary, could just bring a cooler and blanket to sit on next to small fire. This is how I've done it last few times with my girl. I just went to google earth satellite view and looked for places that seemed to be farthest from houses and then drove over that way to find a place to park and a place that would be good for small fire. Really nothing to it, and really impressed the two other couples that came with us. You can do it bro. And i hope when you do you get back to this reply to tel me about it

Just a little Tip. I has a few camping skillet/pots I take with me. where I engraved marks on it for different cups even half cup marks on a couple of them.
That's a great idea!
Steve thinks about so many variables when doing this stealth stuff to avoid suspicion. If he committed an actual grand heist he would get away with it.
Disguised as Business Man, I guess.
"Sell sell, buy buy!"
You have such a kind smile ,
Great camp .
As someone else who has a guilty pleasure of swings after a step 2 or 3, I totally feel you my dude.
That wasn't Steve's desire to not get busted in the morning. That was the pot pie seeking revenge. Time to plunker down
It wanted out. With a whole box of stuffing, I produce some monster logs next day that stretch the sphincter.
Hi steve I'm local to the same area. I've been to that park lots tried to hammock camp there one night but was told I had to leave by a parks officer haven't tried again since. But the note idea is great!
Lol Steve you didn’t even acknowledge that amazing one flip spatula catch 😂
That was awesome! Didn't miss a beat
A classic video - out in the woods, no traffic noise, but lots of birds and mosquitos. Excellent
love the bird calls in the background
Glad to see another grown up who enjoys a swing set.
My favorite thing,
a particular swing,
in the playground with the pond and the tadpoles.
It hangs in between,
two lessor swings,
that I prefer to be wrapped on the side-poles.
My memory lingers,
on the times that my fingers,
were pinched in the chains that they hung from.
My favorite swing,
has done no such thing,
just granted me hours of freedom.

My ten year old LOVES your videos (as do I). He affectionately refers to you as ‘funny camper guy’. 😂🤣
lmao I enjoy a good "swing" after a few step twos.. onward we go *looks at camera awkwardly*
Best line ever! Steve cracks me up!
Mooooommmmm! Why does the old guy on the swing smell like lighter fluid and liquor?
"That's just an Albertan."

Thanks for being such a good role model for people, proud that you're Canadian, and you're such an avid enthusiast of the environment and protecting it. You really care about your planet and your surroundings. Love the videos Steve! Told my Dad to check you out too!! Good luck buddy keep up the great work!!!! Step 2 Glenlivet ;) love it brotha ;)
Good role model? He is BREAKING THE LAW by camping where it's not allowed. He is deceiving the authorities with his "lost keys" gambit. He is evading the consequences of his illegality by sneaking out early in the morning. And you call him a role model?
@@nicolasuribestanko geez you must be fun at parties 😒 he’s not hurting anyone or anything. There’s too many rules these days anyway
“I do enjoy a good swing after a few step 2’s” what a guy.
What's step 1?
@@r34ct4 getting to the camp site
I am still laughing about that line
@@r34ct4 also getting everything set up.
“I don’t see any really dead trees above me - other than the one I tied my hammock onto”". You crack me up!
“It’s a school night!” In the future no one will get that joke.
I don't get it now.
Please explain
01AceAlpha uhhhh those EVIL words “no it’s a school night” hahaha no more since I’m about to turn 18 and go off to college. Soon enough, I’ll be saying it to my own kids!
Poisonpinball “it’s a school night” will soon be remembered as the times you could finish work before 2am
But “things should die out soon“ is a little too real
Steve's camp meals always look so delicious. I want to try every single one of them.
Nice one Steve “ You’re welcome at my table” - If You were talking to us “watchers”,you weren’t kidding! There was enough condensed tucker in yer tin for half of your followers!😉 My kind of cooking - One Pan and “never too much servings” 😆 😊 Great vid bro. Thanks for all your effort 😊 👍 - Jonathan South Wales 🏴 UK 🇬🇧
Thank you for what you do. I've been going through a hard time and watching you do what you love reminds me that I should do the same I love to go camping like how you do it. It's inspiring me to just go do it whenever. I love nature. Thank you Steve!
“That’s my guilty pleasure, I do enjoy a nice swing after a couple step 2” 😂😂😂😂😭 *YOU’RE THE MAN STEVE!*

This is exactly my speed of adventure. 💜
If Steve Wallis thinks it should be a campground, he'll make it a campground.
From Nova Scotia....i agree 100%

I don't think Steve caught that lol.
Here’s my story of how I stumbled across This absolute diamond.
I was searching videos about drains and storm drains ect as I’m very interested in the underground network of tunnels. I find a video titled “camping in a storm drain” now considering I have a lot of knowledge of storm drains ect my first reaction was, right well done TH-cam you’ve done it again....show me this fool. 4 days later 30 videos down and I still can’t stop watching you. I don’t even know what it is. Maybe it’s your humbleness or just the fact that I feel like we’re in this together. You’re an amazing guy and honestly my favourite TH-camr.
This is what we're making for dinner! Thanks for the recipe Steve!
Every Thursday is a good Thursday with Steve!
Me ever since Covid.
"Well i just woke up, time for step 2"
"Just ate some lunch and time for step 2"
"Fixing to hunker down for the evening, step 2, step 2, step 2"
Perfect timing, I’m heading to a freedom camping sight on the east coast of New Zealand after work today. Super excited now!! Awesome video Steve 🙌
Great meal.. I've made that on the trail as well as at home.... Love one pot meals...
And i hope when you do you get back to this reply to tel me about it
What a great video and scenery. Thanks Steve you are a true adventures guy. U got me through some pretty rough times just watching ur videos.
"Everybody is welcome at my table" definitely one of the reasons i follow you. Love this channel
Ok, but Good Luck, in just stumbling across him, he is VERY stealthy, ,
steve never fails to make me smile on a crappy day
I've watched this one before. I didn't leave a comment you, sir. Are top shelf. You're cooking is extraordinary.
