I would like to reject the notion that Straw Hats placed on lower postions is because you hate them. I hate none of them, but I had to place someone last.
the thing to remember is that the bottom of this kind of list isn't the "most bad" but instead the "least good". Every character here has charmed us all in some way, some we just get more excited about then others.
I am sitting here all giddy that Jinbei is actually counted as a Straw Hat now, it still hasn't quite settled in for me, and I read the manga, so he's been a Straw hat for a year or so already. It's so awesome.
Dude when i discovered one piece i already knew there were nine members. All the official promotional art and fanart made that clear. Having Jinbei as a part of that legendary cast of main characters is awesome, but its gonna take some time to get used to it considering the straw hats have been a crew of nine since Thriller Bark.
I guess the feeling is still a shock to the system considering how long Jimbei has been blue balled from his strawhat position by oda so him finally getting it just feels surreal
Honestly I’m mostly okay with how things ended up on this ranking, I’m glad Robin was near the top, in recent years it’s felt like she’s under appreciated/utilized in the story and her bounty seems to really misrepresent her threat to the WG. Honestly my biggest gripe is with Sanji, I’m not the biggest fan of how he’s basically become a relentless pervert and that’s made his character a bit harder for me to love, if you got rid of his creepy peeping and over the top gag reactions to women I’d be satisfied with him sitting in third.
While I agree with the points about Robin, the stuff about Sanji could honestly be applied to Brook and his panties joke. One thing you have to remember is that Oda has given each straw hat member a quirk that very much reflects their thoughts and feelings. I know that Sanji's pervert moments have been used way too much in the New World and are quite overexaggerated, but I still think it's a very funny quirk for his character. Brook on the other hand rips off Sanji's quirk when he already had his skeleton joke quirk to begin with, which is honestly way better for his character's thoughts.
THIS! I've been watching OP since 2004 and I almost dropped it around 2014 or during the timeskip and fish man arc because of how insufferable the character of Sanji has become. I don't want to hate him and I almost skipped WCI arc. Anyway, it's impossible for me to drop OP since it's always been my #1 favorite series. But Sanji's simping gag still annoys me though.
Normally, a MC is supposed to be a foil for all of the characters in the story, especially in a big shonen story. So, they tend to have a very simple and easy to understand personality. It is such an achievement for Oda that Luffy is still a majority favorite despite that fact.
That's because a "simple" character can still be appealing in other ways. Luffy is a simpleton by design: he doesn't need controversial motivation or being a kira-level grandschemer, he has an idea and act based on it, even when that's not the easy route. That consistency is extremely likeable in... well, anyone really, irl included. That's also what I liked about naruto back then. Writing a simple and consistent character can be better than over-write one, if you're good ar writing, that is.
But lets be real here most of the straw hats are simply just not that interesting. Someone like brook just doesn't work as a character alone. He repeats his 2 jokes and thats about it.
@@dasschnecke3025 that's why he's a side character. And a minor one to be fair. Standalone side-characters that get more screentime and important roles like sanji, zoro, law and kid exist. But even side characters like Brook have good background stories/introduction nonetheless. Without his backstory he wouldn't be half as appealing.
I think it might have something to do with the fact that the mains characters are part of a crew, with a visible hierarchy: luffy is (the) superior to all the other characters. Even though we don't like him that much, we still consider him above others. Personally, I ranked him first because I think it would be weird to see him below his crewmate.
I feel like you can’t say it’s “haters” when people out someone last. To me if I was making a tier list I’d be putting all the straw hats and S and A rank but someone has to be the bottom of A rank, doesn’t mean I hate the last place character. Brooke is underrated as hell. People be forgetting that he stole the poneglyph wasnt scared to go face to face with big mom and Kizaru with no hesitation. His fighting style is just as cool. I said what i had to say, BootyMuncher signing off YOHOHOHOHO!
He's also a gentleman gothic skeleton who's also a pervert but in a kind way, plays music, he's a ghost of the underworld of needed, and his back story is one of the worst in the series... there's a lot to love about him!
usopp is a better character than sanji zoro and nami imo flat out...its annoying how underrated he is...robin and luffy are the only two i feel are superior to him..lets be real
it's deserved, although he is strong he isn't utilized for combat as much as he should have been or for other plot points, and his personality is understandably irritating for many people, and probably relatively few people find him really enjoyable.

if Oda didn't overdo sanjis "humongous love towards ladies" he would be my fav character easily. I just love him when he is not being "weird" : he's strong, pretty smart, dependable, kind. I feel like i would love him a lot more than zoro if it wasnt for the overuse of perverted moments and that stuff.

Glr, I'd like to emphasize that we putting characters dead last doesn't mean we "dislike" them. We just like the other 10 more than them and so on and so forth. We like all of them. Except the stupid variants of Zoro and Sanji fans.
As someone who is a fan, it's worth pointing out that some people can just as easily dislike a strawhat because they can be put off because of their flaws (I've heard many a complaint about brook in this regard, but usually around when he's introduced

I feel like one piece is very much defined by luffy. The way in which the story progresses and flows is very much dictated by what our rubbery boy desires.

Dont forget the weird, dark humor, and some of the most entertaining relationships with Chopper, Franky, Usopp, lately Jinbie and Brook, and sometimes even Nami and Luffy. But her fighting style is also loved about her, its one of the most satisfying, i personally would put it 2nd right after Sanjis fighting style

I never understood usopp fans. I don't get his appeal. He's a comic relief who isn't funny and he doesn't have utility. Like he isnt a shipwright or chef, helmsman, etcetera. He isn't even really a lookout like most snipers are.

My guess with Nami is that if this poll was taken after arlong park/ any time in the pre-timeskip Era, nami would likely be in 3rd-4th place easily, but alot of one piece fans I know are pretty turned off from her character in the post-timeskip era due to how overly sexualized she's become.
she should be top 2-3 honestly....her story is insanely well planned out and executed...i fell in love with her because oda put in the effort not cause of anything she did herself persay...you mistrust her at first as shes a villain you do not love her she feels distant from the audience and the crew for a bit and she had a less than glamourized recruitment then you realize shes the most broken character in the story she says she wants to live and you cry hard...i did not expect to love robin as much as I did....i expected her to be like the 7th best strawhat overall by the end of the story at best when she was doing stuff in skypiea...oda flipped that on its head...fast....
This is the one anime where I am not surprised that the MC is respected and revered by the majority of the fanbase. Zoro dabbles in bad-assery but for Luffy, it's a moniker.

I think it's the other way around actually. Zoro is always the bad-ass, serious first mate, whereas Luffy has his silly side on most of the time, which is why seeing him turn bad-ass for those hard hitting moments feels even cooler

Doesn’t make any sense. In order to really see the changes we would have to ask the exact same 20,000 people to rank the strawhats. So every one who participated on the first survey has to participate at the second one in one year. Otherwise the numbers would give you valid insights
@Rin Martell that's why you get a large sample size, so that the numbers can be extrapolated to most people without the bias of a single person interfering with the results. With a sample size that big, it is pretty safe to say that if the poll was conducted again immediately, that the results would be fairly similar. I suppose you aren't an astute mathematician, since you couldn't figure out that 28,000 is in fact a much higher number than the 200 votes required to get a statistically significant survey.
Luffy is not only my favorite Straw Hat but he's probably my favorite character in all of fiction! I love him so much! The moment that got me into One Piece was him climbing Drum Mountain and not only has that become one of my all time favorite moments in the entire franchise, but it cemented One Piece as one of my favorite anime(yes, anime) of all time! Props to Oda for writing such a masterful character!
Sanji and Zoro change between 1 and 2 for me all the time, usually Luffy ends up always being my 3rd, this time was no different lol I'm really feeling all the love Robin got this time around.

Stop the "no personality" crap. He has a laid back personality, seems cruel but has a kind heart, can say harsh things but only to teach the crew how to survive, he's a man of honor and still is one of the funniest strawhats. Just because he's not as cheerful as other SHs doesn't mean he has no personality or worse personality than others. As for character depth, more like he's the only one whose backstory isn't tragic.
He's a one-note character with few impactful moments, but this is a fan favorite for main characters of battle shounen manga, well what do we expect? Lol
For me Nami is likable for her skills as a navigator and burglar (which she rarely shows anymore) and the comedy trio, Chopper is the friend that you want to protect, and Robin’s popularity isn’t surprising at all considering her role in the crew and her secondary role as the fun loving older sister who just like Chopper you want to protect.
Personally i think people put chopper lower is because of mosnter point. Pre timeskip monsterpoint was like a demon who couldnt be cotrolled. but post timeskip he just seems goofy in taht form.
I love every mugiwara but if I had to rank them: 10 Jinbe - he is a great character but I need more time to enjoy his dynamic with the rest of the crew.; 9 Chopper- he was my fifth at the end of Enies Lobby but in post-time skip I just see him as a kawaii mascotte; 8 Franky - Now I' ve learnt to appreciate his new design, but I want more from him. I loved him in Water 7 and Enies Lobby; 7 Brook - I think everyone love Brook ( yes he can be annoying with his jokes, but I always laugh in particular with the skull jokes) after WCI he has surpassed Chopper and Franky. I'd like to rank him higher, but I love the other mugi more; 6 Nami- She is great. At the beginning I didnt' like her, she was a bit too much and a classic tsunade character. But she has developed and now I really like her; 5 Zoro - he can't be hated. He 's cool, badass and loyal. I just like the others more; 4 Sanji- I 've always liked his attacks and tecniques. I love his first backstory . I like his development and his Mr Prince attitude; 3- Usopp The comic relief, the coward and the warrior, Sogeking, God Usopp. Do you need more? He is the most human in the crew(with Nami) and "just" want to be a brave warrior. And I love this; 2 Robin My favourite female character. She is the best written female character for me (and one of the best in pre-time skip). My favourite backstory and development, my favourite dream (I am more intrigued by the misteries of the One Piece world than the fights. So I want like her to Know thr History), one of my favourite devil fruits. I love her personality, her dark humor and the simbolism about her (darkness/light, angel/demon); 1 Luffy the one that built this great crew
If the poll was before the time skip, Sanji would have been an easy top 5 choice for me. I just hate how Oda has changed him afterward. His recent arc was good but all the perverted stuff just grinds my gears. I'm actually surprised he still got ranked 3rd.

I think you don't completely understand Zoro. Zoro is the first mate of Luffy who needs to remind Luffy that he is a pirate. He is the most loyal Straw Hat to Luffy and he needs to give advice to Luffy. Think about it, if you were a pirate and one of your crewmates left your crew to join another one, would you go back to save him? Zoro was thinking sensibly(He didn't know about his past, so that was the sensible choice)

I think people aren't a huge fan of post-TS Franky (design and also he hasn't done a whole lot compared to others). Chopper also probably suffers from mascot fatigue perhaps?
The Badass factor. Jinbe is more of a straight "awesome" character than the other two. Whereas Franky both Franky and Chopper lean more comic relief and haven't had much for giant moments of awesome since Dressrosa and Pre-timeskip respectively.
jinbei is my fav character alongside sanji jinbei is badass and the sakecup moment is aswm and also he has a unique design adorable facter like chopper
Jinbei was my favorite character after Marineford, I love him, and wanted him as a strawhat since the escape of Impel Down. I did however think he would be the lowest strawhat besides Merry because he is the newest and already had many haters who didn't want him to join, so I'm happy with that result.

For me ranking the Strawhats isn't as hard for me as it is for a lot people because I ultimately like more than others so here's my rankings 1. Sanji 2. Zoro 3. Robin 4. Luffy 5. Usopp 6. Nami 7. Franky 8. Jinbei 9. Brook 10. Chopoer 11. Going Merry
The only difference in my ranking was in the top 3, mine was Sanji 1st, Luffy 2nd, Zoro 3rd. Yes, my favorite character is Sanji and I don't need to hate Zoro to love Sanji.
I honestly feel Luffy is kinda overrated. Yes, I understand he's the main character but he gets a bit too much of the overall spotlight for my liking and when that happens, I start to just dislike such a character.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that the mains characters are part of a crew, with a visible hierarchy: luffy is (the) superior to all the other characters. Even though we don't like him that much, we still consider him above others. Personally, I ranked him first because I think it would be weird to see him below his crewmate.
I feel like you can’t say it’s “haters” when people out someone last. To me if I was making a tier list I’d be putting all the straw hats and S and A rank but someone has to be the bottom of A rank, doesn’t mean I hate the last place character.

I love how Usopp is at least Top 5! He is such an underappreciated character in how he supports the crew and his potential is amazing to develop like Yasopp.
I never understood usopp fans. I don't get his appeal. He's a comic relief who isn't funny and he doesn't have utility. Like he isnt a shipwright or chef, helmsman, etcetera. He isn't even really a lookout like most snipers are.

I think it's the other way around actually. Zoro is always the bad-ass, serious first mate, whereas Luffy has his silly side on most of the time, which is why seeing him turn bad-ass for those hard hitting moments feels even cooler

Doesn’t make any sense. In order to really see the changes we would have to ask the exact same 20,000 people to rank the strawhats. So every one who participated on the first survey has to participate at the second one in one year. Otherwise the numbers would give you valid insights
@Rin Martell that's why you get a large sample size, so that the numbers can be extrapolated to most people without the bias of a single person interfering with the results. With a sample size that big, it is pretty safe to say that if the poll was conducted again immediately, that the results would be fairly similar. I suppose you aren't an astute mathematician, since you couldn't figure out that 28,000 is in fact a much higher number than the 200 votes required to get a statistically significant survey.
Luffy is not only my favorite Straw Hat but he's probably my favorite character in all of fiction! I love him so much! The moment that got me into One Piece was him climbing Drum Mountain and not only has that become one of my all time favorite moments in the entire franchise, but it cemented One Piece as one of my favorite anime(yes, anime) of all time! Props to Oda for writing such a masterful character!

He has a laid back personality, seems cruel but has a kind heart, can say harsh things but only to teach the crew how to survive, he's a man of honor and still is one of the funniest strawhats. Just because he's not as cheerful as other SHs doesn't mean he has no personality or worse personality than others. As for character depth, more like he's the only one whose backstory isn't tragic.

For me Nami is likable for her skills as a navigator and burglar (which she rarely shows anymore) and the comedy trio, Chopper is the friend that you want to protect, and Robin’s popularity isn’t surprising at all considering her role in the crew and her secondary role as the fun loving older sister who just like Chopper you want to protect.
Chopper being as low as he is should be considered a criminal offense.
Personally i think people put chopper lower is because of mosnter point. Pre timeskip monsterpoint was like a demon who couldnt be cotrolled. but post timeskip he just seems goofy in taht form.

8 Franky - Now I' ve learnt to appreciate his new design, but I want more from him. I loved him in Water 7 and Enies Lobby;
7 Brook - I think everyone love Brook ( yes he can be annoying with his jokes, but I always laugh in particular with the skull jokes) after WCI he has surpassed Chopper and Franky. I'd like to rank him higher, but I love the other mugi more;

2 Robin My favourite female character. She is the best written female character for me (and one of the best in pre-time skip). My favourite backstory and development, my favourite dream (I am more intrigued by the misteries of the One Piece world than the fights. So I want like her to Know thr History), one of my favourite devil fruits. I love her personality, her dark humor and the simbolism about her (darkness/light, angel/demon);

I think you don't completely understand Zoro. Zoro is the first mate of Luffy who needs to remind Luffy that he is a pirate. He is the most loyal Straw Hat to Luffy and he needs to give advice to Luffy. Think about it, if you were a pirate and one of your crewmates left your crew to join another one, would you go back to save him? I can't recall but I don't think Zoro knew basically anything about Sanji's situation. I don't like what Zoro said, but I think it adds nuance to a story if the first mate disagrees with the captain (even if we know they'll never actually cross them)

i think chopper and nami ranking surprisingly low is because both of them are japanese favorites - especially chopper merch is really popular, if i remember right. plus a lot of fans seem to hate nami for some reason :/

I think people aren't a huge fan of post-TS Franky (design and also he hasn't done a whole lot compared to others). Chopper also probably suffers from mascot fatigue perhaps?
The Badass factor. Jinbe is more of a straight "awesome" character than the other two. Whereas Franky both Franky and Chopper lean more comic relief and haven't had much for giant moments of awesome since Dressrosa and Pre-timeskip respectively.
If you like Luffy you love Jinbe he’s such a. Good support character and saved Luffys life so I’ve always liked him.

Jinbei was my favorite character after Marineford, I love him, and wanted him as a strawhat since the escape of Impel Down. I did however think he would be the lowest strawhat besides Merry because he is the newest and already had many haters who didn't want him to join, so I'm happy with that result.
