- You can "ooh" and "ahh" over the '59/60 bursts, but this is the true rare bird of the Les Paul family. After 8 years without a single-cut Les Paul model, in 1968 Gibson reintroduced the guitar that rocked the world. For less than a year this guitar offered us the rare combo of a '60s "C" neck carve with the sweet sound of P-90s. The first of these guitars that shipped were released with a mistake in the detailing, which the Custom Shop faithfully reproduced in this reissue. Can you find the error?

I just bought the 2022 70th anniversary version brand new, same exact specs. I played a 68 black beauty for over 20 years until I sold it in 2005 (I know stupid). This new 68 gold top is INCREDIBLE!! I love every aspect of it. Gibson nailed it.
Great choice of guitars!!! Hopefully will be my next purchase! I just absolutely LOVE this guitar (as well as the '56).
got one for $4430.
Such an informative video!
Beautiful guitar
I have a reissue on order. Can't wait for it to arrive in about 2-3 weeks. I had wanted a Les Paul Goldtop with P90's but 50's necks were somewhat putting me off. As soon as I saw a listing for one of these I suddenly had a lot less money in my bank account.
Gibson realized that loads of people were saying "we want the Les Paul that Clapton etc are playing!" so they released a version with P90s. Then they said "NO, we want the humbuckers!" so they added mini humbuckers!
You forgot about the most important thing
It had a 14 degrees headstock angle
Man i have of these! with the crown
My favorite of the late 60s models.
My friend has one too. One of the first 40-50 they made before the "Les Paul" logo was back on the headstock. Those are very, very rare guitars.
Gorgeous!
Nylon bridge saddles?
Was there an advantage for that material in lieu of metal?
Do they wear down over time?
You'll find a wide range of opinions on that subject! I think most agree that the nylon provided a small amount of help in keeping strings in tune when bending. Also, some early ABR saddles may have had inadequate machining. Sharp edges break strings.
I've got one here. Original 1968 with the crown inlay. Anyone here knows how many was made with the crown inlay? 40-50? And how many are left? Many were converted to humbuckers. This one has the original P-90's. My guess is 20-25 guitars. Bad thing is, the one I've got here is not mine.
The crown inlay.
and fat binding in the cutaway
Headstock inlay.
Seeing this video is not good for my mental health...🔥
